Chart Highlights
  • Maroon 5's "V" sold 164,182 to debut at #1 this week. Previous album "Overexposed" debuted at #2 with 222,000 (2012), "Hands All Over" also started at #2 with 142,000 (2010), and "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" sold 429,000 to debut at #1 (2007). Their debut album "Songs About Jane" peaked at #6 in 2004 and is their biggest seller so far with 5,025,000.
  • "Guardians of the Galaxy - Awesome Mix Vol. 1" climbs back up the chart to #3 this week with sales of 53,000, helped by an iTunes sale where the album was $6.99.
  • Bob Marley & The Wailers' "Legend" climbs 95 places to #5 this week with sales of 41,000. In the 30 years since it was released, this is its first visit to the Top 10 (previously climbed as high at #18 in 2012). Google Play is solely responsible for the climb as they had the album on sale for 99c last week. It has sold 11,643,000 since 1991 and is certified for 15 million units by the RIAA.
  • This week's album sales were 4.13 million - down -1% on last week and down -18% compared with same week last year. YTD stands at 162.79 million - down -15% on same point last year.

The tenth album barely scraping 20k. Pathetic.

About 2 week from half a million.

Not bad considering only one track reached the Hot 100 ("Do I Wanna Know?" got to #70).

Nice to see Sam Smith scanning over the Gold threshold!!! Lana and Iggy might reach 500k by November or Early December, if they sell consistently at that rate or better. Ariana's Yours Truly will see Gold this year also and My Everything did plummet much harder than I thought on its second week.

Iggy's got a re-release coming, so most likely.

The Maroon 5 album has got off to a quite good start for them, but it is very notable that it's significantly less than the start for Overexposed (and would seem to indicate a much lower end total) given Overexposed was coming off the back of an album that sold ~1 million while V is coming off the back of an album that sold ~1.5 million. With 'Maps' being nowhere near as big as 'Payphone', I can see this... just about passing gold?

I think gold status is very good these days no matter where you come from (obviously coming from 2 million selling album it is an underperformance)

With album sales down about 50 percent in ten years you can calculate the popularity equalling a million seller in 2004 so anything close to million now is huge.

Maroon 5 really need to release 'It Was Always You', it's clearly a very popular track and would give them a good shot at actually selling the album.
