Which songs have had more than one chart run in the Top 10? If you know any, feel free to post.

There’ll be a few Christmas songs what have managed this I’d think. Mariah must’ve done it a lot.
As for non Xmas tracks. 3 Lions come to mind and Bohemian Rhapsody. |

There will be loads of singles that returned to the top 10 after someone died but these are two that spring to mind that were just normal re-releases:
Fleetwood Mac - Albatross (1968 and 1973) Bobby Goldsboro - Honey (1968 and 1975) |

I believe the record for most separate top 10 runs within a single chart run (so excluding Christmas songs re-entering over several years and 'Three Lions' etc.) is 4, which has been done at least three times - Adele's 'Make You Feel My Love' was I believe the first (having four separate one-week runs), and it's since also been done by Post Malone and Swae Lee's 'Sunflower' and most surprisingly Freya Ridings' 'Lost Without You' despite that never peaking higher than #9. May have been done again since then but those are the ones I remember.

Acker Bilk did it way back in 1961-2!
Mr Acker Bilk with the Leon Young String Chorale - Stranger On The Shore - (55 Weeks) 02/12/1961 -32-16-14-6-6-8-{2}-2-2-5-8-7-12-11-13-8-8-7-6-7-13-12-10-15-13-12-11-12-11-11-9-9-17-19-18-20-19-18-22-23-27-30-32-31-38-47-39-35-40-33-31-45-39-43-37 |

Running a quick program against my data:
8 - Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl - "Fairytale of New York" 6 - Mariah Carey - "All I Want For Christmas Is You" 5 - Band Aid - "Do They Know It's Christmas?" 5 - Wham! - "Last Christmas" 4 - Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds - "Three Lions" 4 - Shakin' Stevens - "Merry Christmas Everyone" plus the 5 songs mentioned above as doing it without a break. Notes: "Last Christmas" had one more top 10 run as a double A-side with "Everything She Wants" "Three Lions" excludes the one run as "Three Lions 98" Band Aid excludes versions by Band Aid II, 20 or 30 (all one run except for Band Aid 30 which had two runs. "Bohemian Rhapsody" had just the one top 10 run in it's original form and one more as a Double A-Side with "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" As usual, corrections and amendments welcome. |

Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Relax' and 'The Power Of Love' have both had three top 10 runs, plus at least two covers of 'The Power Of Love' have reached the top 10.

Ariana Grande - 34+35 is the latest to have had 4 separate Top 10 runs within a single chart run.
Slightly off-topic, but Blinding Lights has had 3 separate runs in the Top 15 and left the Top 40 between each one, but stayed in the Top 75 throughout. Only realised that because Levitating could end up doing something similar if it gets a reset to SCR. |

You could also add +1 to each of the Christmas songs in fchd's post above, with another one now on 4 runs: Elton John - Step Into Christmas. This has done so with only 5 weeks in the Top 10 in total - fewer than anything else on 4+ runs (other than the Adele song which has 4 in 4 as mentioned above), although the Michael Bublé song is on 3 runs from 3 weeks and could possibly also make it 4 in 4 this year.
Tina Moore - Never Gonna Let You Go came very close to getting 4 in 4 in 1997: 7-11-9-12-9-11-11 This post has been edited by jimwatts: Apr 22 2021, 12:54 PM |
