Doing perfectly well considering it has no airplay yet tbh, it'll pick up considerably in the coming weeks.

Almost out of the top 100 is "doing perfectly well"?
As always, we'll agree to disagree!

I don't know what you expect from a song with no airplay, no video and no promo It could be on for a top 40 debut officially tomorrow, that's above and beyond what I expected in week one. It'll be just fine in the coming weeks, way too early to say "ouch".

Well a song featuring three pretty relevant artists right now is currently sitting at #97 on iTunes so I think an "ouch" is more than warranted!
OUCH!!

Artists that are not guaranteed smash hits yet because they're all pretty new and without a fanbase!
I think in this day and age, we should know better than to judge a song's performance after one week when the vast majority of songs climb to their peak nowadays. What's more is that it's almost top 50 on Spotify in that time, which is a much more important metric nowadays. You do you but let's not get carried away.

"Let's not get carried away"
What? I simply pointed out its position and said "ouch" - which I believe is warranted because I thought it'd be low top 50 at least at the minute. I'm well aware it has every chance to rebound in the coming weeks.

Like you said, I think we'll have to agree to disagree...
67. Meghan Trainor - No Excuses
Intrigued to see where this climbs to tomorrow, New Music Friday has a positive effect even for Thursday releases. A higher debut than NO is unlikely thanks to its shite NMF playlist position on Spotify but hopefully it can climb well here.

The more I hear it, the more I'm really liking the new MNEK single. Genuinely sounds fresh and different and given it's prominence on the new music playlists on Spotify maybe it could actually become a hit.
Posted by: _jase 2nd March 2018, 01:07 AM
I think it should be higher, you don't. Yeah, moving on.

55. Make Me Feel - Janelle Monáe
I've currently had this on repeat the last few days. I really hope R1 get behind this because it sounds huge and deserves to be huge!

Please tell me Paloma Faith's "Make Your Own Kind Of Music" is a cover of Mama Cass's 60's classic. It was THE gay anthem until "I Am What I Am" came along 15 years later!

that said, does cigarette even have an impact date?
Posted by: Dexton 2nd March 2018, 06:18 AM
I love Raye & Mabel but Cigarette is a bit of a dud for me so far, definitely prefer Check right now
Posted by: Bjork 2nd March 2018, 07:34 AM
I was also a bit disappointed with cigarette's performance on itunes, even if you're not big names and haven't had promo, selling barely 50 copies a day it's a tad disappointment but yes, we have to put it into perspective, it's 2018 and singles don't peak in week 1 anymore plus raye /mabel/ stefflon are artists that appeal to the new generations so their natural market is spotify not itunes, and there the label is doing a good job having the song added to all playlists and being 50-ish already, that's what matters with artist like raye, her itunes position is irrelevant, it's like post malone, no one cares how he does on itunes, it's not gonna make a difference

What do you mean by consistently? They fully supported their last era and I see no reason why they won't continue their support into this era. The new single was last night's hottest record I believe so I'd expect to see it playlisted in the next couple of weeks.

She should get another week top 100 in Official chart then I think it' time to call it a day and focus on the brilliant Stop Me From Falling with Gente De Zona! She gonna be streamed to hell in Latin America! They are 310th in all time Spotify artists being streamed worldwide.
That said..... Friday sees the Anton Powers remix of Dancing hit the iTunes chart which could actually go top 50 on iTunes and I've another little bit of longevity for Kylie

Disappointing comeback for Years & Years.
I didn't like 'Meteorite' either. I was really rooting for them.

Meteorite was their worst single. I hope this grows a bit because it’s so...dull at the moment.

Oddly Sanctify isn't on I-tunes yet... unless I missed it

That's ridiculous... it's too good not to be an official single!

Hmmm, well I certainly seem to be in the minority of people really enjoying it (but then again I loved 'Meteorite' too )

Probably just to save face if it flops, if it does well it will be the official single.

Is that a rule now? Weren't all of Taylor's song's playlisted even the buzz ones.

It's always been a rule as far as I know. The Taylor singles were buzz singles when they were first released but they were all official singles by the time R1 playlisted them.
Posted by: Bjork 8th March 2018, 03:37 PM
Well the label is putting a lot of $$$ on it If its just a buzz single Expensive video + Insta-add midweek to hothits and pretty high

None of Taylor's singles were "buzz" singles. All four were official singles. 'Gorgeous' was a Europe only single but still a single.

They were in the end... but I'm sure Ready for It was playlisted when it was just thought to be a buzz single. Then taken off the playlist and later re-added
I may be wrong though.
I just remember the strategy being a mess of not knowing what was what
