What an iconic start *.*
Will this include songs as the featured artist? |

great to have another one of these countdowns so soon after the last one!
will Girls Aloud be the sole girl group to feature then or have Little Mix overtook already? (and I guess Sugababes might also be ahead as they had slightly more hits) |

This list must have taken ages to compile... on the plus side of that, I guess it will be harder for people to find errors on it
Anyway, good to see Girls Aloud and Pet Shop Boys here, bands who may not have had million sellers but a lot of hit singles (pre-streaming era too). |

To do all 5 countdowns took a while, once they are all completed I will update them properly weekly as currently all the figures are up to the end of 2017. |

Due to 24/7 Downloads, it is a huge advantage for the 'Singles' Acts of the past 14 Years or so. Now we also have
'Streaming' and that gives 'Big Modern Acts' an even bigger advantage. To stay in the Charts for endless Months and to outscore the 'Old' Acts, who could only stay in the Charts while their Singles were still in the Shops... That is why Ed Sheeran and Rihanna will be very high in this Singles Artist Top 100. The way the Charts work now makes it look like the 'Big Acts' of today are much bigger than the Acts of past Decades. Several Years ago the UK's Best Selling Singles Acts were revealed. The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Cliff Richard were all in the Top 3, with around 20 Million UK Singles Sales. Queen were on about 11 Million and ABBA on about 10 Million. You can see how Downloads and Streaming give 'Modern' Acts an advantage. Last Week Alan Jones announced that Eminem has now sold 30 Million 'Tracks' in the UK. Rihanna is on 38 Million. Ed Sheeran is on 41 Milllion. Those Sales are far, far bigger than The Beatles etc. It is all to do with how the 'Singles' Chart works now. It is the same with the UK's Biggest Singles. If you use Points to work them out, you find that more and more Singles from the past 10 to 15 Years dominate the 'All Time' Top 100. Regarding the Singles Chart. It would be fairer to just use the Top 10, as then all 'Big Acts' get a fair chance to score well. Otherwise, you just find that 'Modern' Acts consistently score more Points than most 'Old' Acts... Sadly true but I’m not going to sit down and work out a formula for the cd era, the download era and the streaming era 😂 and to be honest it’s only the steaming that manipulates sales and that’s only been the last few years. Good to see Pet Shop Boys and ELO just scraping into the top 100. If your basing the three greatest hits on chart positions, for ELO,Don't Bring Me Down (no.3) should be there instead of Wild West Hero (no.6).

Basing it on positions/weeks on chart/personal favourite, nothing that specific really 😂 This post has been edited by Dannyboy: 24th September 2018, 11:59 AM |

It's also interesting that ELO's figures for weeks on chart,no.1s,top 10,top 40,top 75 are all lower than the Pet Shop Boys but they have a higher points total. I suppose this might be down to chart hits from the 70s sticking around the higher part of the chart for longer than they did in the 80s/90s.
