... that the official chart impacts on your own chart? ohmy.gif

Are you one of them people who's chart stuff is mainly in the Top 40 or are you not so mainstream?

For me, lately some very mainstream songs (Girls Aloud, Razorlight, The Killers, Bloc Party etc.) have charted very high up for me which is quite unusual because I usually chart more unknown songs.

I chart things from the chart, or things due to be out up to 4 weeks in advance (or download release) - so almost all the way laugh.gif

My chart does seem to have like the whole top 40 inside it but thats only because thats the music I'm into, I don't just chart it based on whether its doing well in the UK charts. happy.gif

I'm a mix between what Jester and Simon do really. I usually look at the release schedule and chart what I recognise - which I guess usually ends up being the mainstream future top 40 hits, but not always. But sometimes I will listen to songs on the release schedule that I wouldn't have heard otherwise and chart them because I like them. e.g. Idina Menzel, Ladyhawke, Count & Sinden, Roll Deep and Chaka Khan have all had songs I've discovered this way.

I think the charts sometimes affect how long a song will spend in my charts though. If a song falls out of the top 40, or never reaches it, I think that subconciously makes a song fall faster in my chart. thinking.gif

It's not that I chart stuff because it's mainstream, it's all I know really. I don't tap into the unknown, underground, indie songs.

I never usually seem to chart songs that miss the Top75 laugh.gif Quite a few songs that have been big in my chart have been minor hits:

The Kooks - Sway (#41)
Melee - Built To Last (#50something)
Sandi Thom - The Devil's Beat (As above i think)

They all made #1...but in general most of the songs in my chart rech the Top40. I also don't have any special rules for my chart so album tracks (Tracing Lines made #10 before i knew it was gonna be a single), old songs (Family Portrait is frequent tongue.gif) and BJSC influenced tracks (some will chart this week) often be seen in my chart!!!

Well 9/10 of my top 10 is in the official top 40 laugh.gif . Though that is higher than normal because the itunes top 10 looks like this:

01| Girls Aloud - The Promise (Also at #57)
02| Razorlight - Wire To Wire
03| Pink - So What
04| Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire (Also at #88)
05| The Saturdays - Up
06| Kanye West - Love Lockdown
07| SASH! Feat. Stunt - Raindrops (Encore Une Fois)
08| Katy Perry - Hot N Cold
09| Ne Yo- Miss Independant
10| Guru Josh Project- Infinity 2008
That is the best itunes chart i've ever seen ^ wub.gif

My taste i'd say is diverse but generic.

I think that happened to me too, it's probably gonna be my shortest chart run for a #1 if it falls out next week, though 10 weeks isn't too short. It could be that it's the third single off one of my albums of the year so I'd already overplayed it before I charted it.

It used to be. Nowadays I couldn't give a shit about the official charts

My chart's very heavily influenced by the release schedule though. When songs chart, peak positions and how long they're in my chart are all things that are decided by the releases list

I am afraid i'm rapidly going off mainstream, just look at my chart laugh.gif Sisters of Transistors, The Count & Sinden, Fleet Foxes, Of Montreal...
Blame Ben

But i don't really care, unknown stuff seems to be more stable and not forgettable as some of mainstream ones laugh.gif

I used to chart stuff when it charted and then removed it when it dropped out of the Top 40, but I've not done that for years now. My chart is still mostly mainstream/chart stuff but I have had number ones from Janet Jackson - Feedback, Danity Kane - Damaged and Lady GaGa - Just Dance as some examples of non-chart hits.

The official chart doesn't affect my chart, but what is getting released does, as I only chart stuff on the week of it's Physical/Dl only release happy.gif

As for the Multichart, it does seem that flopping in the official chart increases the chances of flopping in the Multichart, just to use a recent example of Sara Bareilles, Love Song went to #3, and then the follow up only made around #70.

Sneaky Sound System entered at #3 and was out my top 75 af

Well maybe not their current single but i thought Beeper would be huge.

The multichart seems like a shuffle of the top 75 anyway plus a few tracks not released in the uk...

My chart is filled with a lot of commercial stuff and a lot does tend to make the top 40 but recently i dont tend to take much notice of a songs realese date which means some songs tend to drop out sometimes weeks vefore they are actually realesead.

It's only influenced by when it's released. Mainly because I find the best and easiest way to find music is to just go through the new release list every week and download and chart the songs I like.

It's certainly not affected by what's in the chart though. If 'Green Light' charts this week it'll mean 10 of my current chart have made the top 40 (just 25%!)
