Time to move on?

"Only human" got her two new number 1 singles but failed to sell lots, despite being a very strong effort.
What's to expect next?

Some newspapers are already talking about her 5th album :

So what do you think will happen next?
What do you want in the next album?

Posted by: JosephStyles 16th March 2015, 02:44 PM

Really excited for a new album as for me, the music keeps getting better and better. Commercially, I don't know if it will do anything, although if a new album's due at the end of the year, does that basically guarantee a return to X Factor? kink.gif

Posted by: AdamAloud 16th March 2015, 03:05 PM

If there's only going to be 3 performances and an interview, I'm not wetting myself with excitement for a new era. Like Joseph said, her music is getting better but I can't at how lazy she is for a popstar.

Posted by: Umi 16th March 2015, 03:27 PM

I don't feel like a fifth album is overly likely to happen honestly.

Posted by: sajjadali 16th March 2015, 04:26 PM

I think it is looking likely she'll be dropped by Universal. The album only sold 60,000 apparently. The label will base it on the fact if they made a profit on the campaign or not. I think that'll be touch and go.

1.2 No.1 singles, but that didn't translate into album sales
2. She spent nearly two and a bit years working on this new record so the writing costs will be higher
3. I can't see Only Human the single charting very highly at all.

The first sign of Cheryl dropped was her husband criticising the management/record company publicly.
Then articles about her fighting for 'artistic freedom'.
Normally no one or a relative slags off the management or record company unless you're no longer with them sorta how i predicted it with James Arthur slagging off his team's artwork choices.

It's not even a 100% she will do X Factor this year.

She's loaded though and can easily afford some self funded albums for us! w00t.gif

Please, she's still big popstar. Thay can't just dropped her, that would be awful. She better wants a better contract with more control rolleyes.gif

And please again, I don't want some "self-funded like nicole scherzinger shit" albums without promotion.

And if it's true, then I'm excited! Let's better move on to Cheryl N°5 ( I like this name actually tongue.gif) after 22 March.

JB did slag radios and the label off for not promoting "Only human" hard enough though. I am following him and I did read it, legit.

I don't think she'll be dropped and/or would change label though.

I like this album name. If it materialises, it definitely needs to be the name. heehee.gif

Posted by: ThePensmith 27th March 2015, 10:56 AM

Am I the only one who thinks, going forward, a greatest hits would be a better move for her commercially? Brilliant though an album 'Only Human' is (her best since '3 Words'), the sales for this have suggested public indifference to a new solo album from Cheryl. Singles, yes, but not albums.

I mean she has 11 hits (OK, perhaps that term can be used loosely for this current single and say, 'The Flood') to her name as a solo artist now - near enough the same amount GA had before they did their first greatest hits.

She's now also in a position that not many solo artists launched from girl groups/boybands get to - enough hits of her own to fill up a hits collection of their own. The only others I can think of who've managed that in recent years are Robbie Williams and Ronan Keating. I'd imagine she has two or at least one albums left on her current solo contract - just put out the hits to fulfill it, tour it and move onto a new label.

I mean I say all this even in the fullest knowledge her idea of promotion these days is just turning up on Graham Norton to look poised and aloof next to Jack Dee and not sing but still.

Posted by: Jay ジ 27th March 2015, 12:29 PM

^ I really miss how she used to be in Girls Aloud, or even the early days of X Factor & her solo career. I think over the past few years her personality has changed - "poised" is definitely a good word. All her interviews, TV or print, are along the same lines and that's getting quite dull. It's all very "I can't talk about that but I will talk vaguely about that, but still not give much of myself away". Although the only time recently that she's shown a glimmer of a spark of her old self is to slag off an ex-bandmate, unfortunately, so perhaps that's not preferable either. sad.gif

I wish she'd promote more. Maybe it's out of her hands, who knows. This whole "perform the single just once on TV" thing isn't going to work for her all the time. She was relatively lucky to nab the two #1 singles last year. I think if she adopts that tactic into a 5th album era, those #1s will turn into "Top 5/10 with short chart run" instead, with pre-album singles.

If she's really going to record a 5th studio album, changes surely have to be made, or else it's just going to be more of the same or even less success.

When it comes to radio, perhaps that is out of her hands now and that's quite a blow. But to compensate for that, there should have been more promo for this single. Apparently she's not even tweeted links to the single? I'm not really sure what the point was when it comes to releasing this single, they may as well have not bothered as it's done nothing for the album (it wasn't Top 200 in the first set of midweeks, which barely required 100 copies sold). It seems her priority this week was L'Oreal, not the single/album.

Posted by: Matt Aloud 28th March 2015, 02:50 PM

I hate to say it but I don't think there'll be a new album for a while, but instead I can smell a GH album and tour coming up next.

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini: I want to record with Rita Ora
20th Aug 15 | Entertainment News

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini has revealed she would ''love'' to record music with her fellow 'X Factor' judge Rita Ora.

The 32-year-old singer has confessed she misses the energy of working within a band, as she did with Girls Aloud, and would relish the opportunity to collaborate with Rita in the recording studio.

She said: ''I miss working with the girls in the band, so would love to work with Rita now on something. I know it'd be great. She's so funny.''

Cheryl is currently busy balancing her role as a judge on the reality TV show 'The X Factor' with recording her new album, which she revealed is likely to be released in 2016.

She told The Sun newspaper: ''I am recording and let's just say I'm loving R&B again.

''But there'll be no album this year. It's looking more likely to be next year.''

Earlier this month, meanwhile, fellow 'X Factor' judge Simon Cowell branded Rita a ''diva'', but also insisted the fact she has an ''ego'' makes her a much more fascinating person.

He said: ''Rita is a diva, but adorable. I really do like her. I like people who have an ego and want to do well, it makes them more interesting.

''There is a side to Rita that I don't think people have seen yet, which is funny.''

I would actually like a "3 words" part 2, and more "Ghetto baby"/"All in one night" r&b songs !$
And a collab with Rita would be fab of course !

I agree in full with this. Also, if she leaves releasing a Greatest Hits much further it will be a complete flop. Releasing this year would likely result in it at minimum outselling Only Human which wouldn't be hard to do.

I'm still astounded shes done one solo tour given shes had quite a few big sellers and decent enough chances to go out on the road more.

Posted by: diamondtooth 31st December 2015, 11:28 PM

Yes I really want a full 3-4 singles era next time. But I do worry that a lot of Cheryl's solo career was helped by her huge public profile generated through the X Factor. But now the X Factor seems to have lost its power and guest performers are not getting the sales boost they used to get. I think Cheryl will have to spend much more time promoting, performing and touring with the next album. And the songs will need to be genuinely catchy.

Also there was a huge connection between the public and Cheryl's personal life during the Three Words era. This connection seems to be missing lately.

I bought Cheryl's last two album. I loved A Million Lights, while I found Only Human was more hit and miss.

Posted by: Aphrodite 2nd January 2016, 12:23 AM

I cant see any album from Cheryl doing that great as her last album performed badly (sales wise)she will likely manage 2 decent selling singles but i agree i think alot of her success came from X Factor not including her first album.

She has been working with Craig David!

QUOTE

The 2016 charts could RE-REWIND to the early days of garage as
noughties golden boy Craig David is rumoured to be collaborating with X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini on her upcoming album.

The unlikely musical union comes after Chez , 32, got chatting with uber producer and singer Craig, 34, at the X Factor final last month when he performed with her act Reggie ‘n’ Bollie.

Their surprise medley, including his hit Re-Rewind, sent the audience wild. Craig’s comeback stole the show, with host Caroline Flack describing it as “one of my favourite TV moments”.

We can reveal that Cheryl and Craig got chatting backstage - planting the seed to work together. Now it seems very likely that they could be headed into the studio for a writing session in the near future as she starts work on her latest record.

An insider tells 3am: “Cheryl and Craig are fans of each other’s work. Cheryl listened to Craig’s earlier work as a teenager and also likes his new material. He’s keen to help write a track for her as the timing is perfect for both of them musically – and they both have plenty of ideas.”

Posted by: liamk97 7th April 2016, 02:04 PM

She'll probably have little problem returning with a big hit (probably not #1 this time now pre-orders are a thing of the past, but I could see her having a successful OA/OS release) but it is what happens after that she needs to focus on, namely the second single. It needs to be something that will help carry the album beyond the initial weeks, not necessarily a ballad, but something that shows she's more than just a singles artist.

I think she'll still hold back the single which is her best chance at getting a big hit sadly sad.gif If she did do OA/OS I think it would do similarly to Kiss Me which would be fine, but it would be a bit embarrassing to have all four lead singles go straight to #1 then missing the top 10.

How laughable.

This laugh.gif

Her music was allllways tied to and promoted by X Factor.

She is over as a solo artist now and has been since pop brat Beiber beat her album to no.1 on flimy pop brat sales.

It's just occurred to me that Cheryl has been a solo artist for as long as Girls Aloud were originally together for (2002-2009, 2009-2016)

It doesn't really feel like she's been a solo artist for that long tbh. I guess it's because she hasn't actually released that many singles when compared to Girls Aloud, and she's only toured once! sad.gif Pretty poor when you think about it.

I've never understood how shes only managed one tour, she could have easily have done one with "Only Human" if announced and planned correctly.

Yeah, I don't really understand why she never toured with 'Only Human' either. Her first tour sold well, and I think the demand was still there to a certain degree. Maybe the album underperforming was a deciding factor, or maybe she's just a lazy pop star... laugh.gif

Posted by: Hayzayy 13th April 2016, 09:12 AM

I guess they had fears she wouldn't sell out a whole tour his time around. The first tour sold great but it was on the back of 3 albums, maybe they thought it would have been hard to equal this success so soon again.
I really want a tour with the fifth album though, she has so much energy on stage, that's where she's the most at ease wub.gif

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 13th April 2016, 09:59 AM

She didn't tour OH because she wasn't invested in her music career at the time. Simple. And even her tour only had 11 shows.

Posted by: Hayzayy 20th April 2016, 10:17 AM

I pray we get a first single before the summer ! She's been posting a lot about being in the studio lately so hopefully something is happening soon, I want a new single asap !

Quote from the Daily Mail (so take it with a pinch of salt for now) about Cheryl:

QUOTE
"She will reportedly not allow her imminent arrival stand in the way of her next career move as she persists with plans to release new music next year"

Delighted to know we might still be getting new music next year! biggrin.gif

Posted by: wake child 13th December 2016, 09:57 PM

they'll dine on that 1 for years

Posted by: JosephCarey 13th December 2016, 10:00 PM

I expect a few Liam co-writes as a minimum, and very likely a duet!

Posted by: JosephCarey 31st December 2017, 03:11 PM

Cheryl's apparently worked with Naughty Boy for her comeback! Intrigued to see what she'll come out with, I hope the lead single at least is Spotify friendly laugh.gif

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 4th January 2018, 12:28 PM

She’s gonna have a big first single I reckon. Similar to Rita success but on a UK spectrum.

Posted by: Hayzayy 28th March 2018, 12:57 PM

I wonder what's going to happen, with the rumours of her leaving Polydor, things are going to change, for the better or the worst... I hope she will still get to release music though. sad.gif

She's fallen into the Furtado baking pies in the kіtchen for too many years trap

Nick Grimshaw apparently said on Radio 1 he has heard a new Cheryl song and its a banger, I am intrigued.

Posted by: Hayzayy 3rd May 2018, 09:00 AM

Nicola has been teasing working on Cheryl's music again in her instagram sotries, apprently the studio process is nearly over.
I guess we'll have the single by september.

Interesting!!

Posted by: liamk97 12th November 2018, 08:12 PM

Sounds like a good idea to me. Cheryl's been struggling to attract album sales anyway and now she has a new type of singles market to adapt to, so I think it's best that they work on getting the singles right first.

Posted by: Dmdr 12th November 2018, 08:25 PM

Apparently she is on Graham Norton November 30th alongside Steve Carell, Michael B Jordan and Dawn French. Chatting and performing.

Posted by: Dmdr 13th November 2018, 12:52 PM

It's back in the Top 200 on Spotify at number 123 with 58,000 streams.

Good cuz it's time to move on from Love made me do it happy.gif

Posted by: liamk97 17th January 2019, 10:46 PM

Cheryl was on The One Show tonight where she revealed her next single will be released "March-ish" and will be a "little more uptempo" than 'Love Made Me Do It'.

She'll also be performing on The Greatest Dancers live shows.

Posted by: Blond 2.0 29th January 2019, 08:57 PM

Can't wait to hear it , I know she had high hopes with love made me do it but i'm glad she's moving on with another single

Posted by: Theonix 16th February 2019, 05:02 PM

So the final of The Greatest Dancer is next Saturday and Cheryl still hasn't announced her next single, if she is going to perform, do we expect it will just be another performance of Love Made Me Do It?

I think its clear she isn't performing.

I reckon that her solo career is over. Love Made Me Do It was too big of a flop to recover from. sleep.gif

It's been kind of obvious for a while that she's never gonna get a hit again.

In all honesty, I'm pretty sure everybody said the same about Westlife and that's turned out to be rather successful. I think with the correct campaign / Spotify playlisting and a strong single Cheryl could have another moderate sized hit. 'Love Made Me Do It' wasn't a strong single at all but it's performance on iTunes showed that she still has a very decent sized fanbase.

That's only half the job. We can ignore it all we want and see it for what it is, but certain red top media helmed by nasally voiced Antipodeans have seen to it to shift public perception of her with their merciless bashing of her every move (only because she rightly called them out for bull****ting). The media are like sheep and will take their cue from which way the wind is blowing, and until that changes - which going on recent months isn't likely to shift just yet - she needs to go refocus her energies and let the storm die down.

Thing iis what didnt help LMMDI was its over zen on gossip publication; its like the spin her then PR was focused on was Cheryl the celeb. Thankfully shes signed to Simon Jones now.

Cheryl confirmed on Instagram the new single is coming in May.

That’s a good possibility.

It’s wise she’s waiting if there’s some promo planned for the track and BGT will be better exposure than anything else at this time of year.

I wonder if she’ll do the performance on debut week this time or wait until a few weeks later like she did with Love Made Me Do It.

I imagine she’ll still manage another top 40 hit at least. Top 5 on sales only with iTunes #1 for the first few days of release.

I’d love another album from her but right now I’m happy with just singles smile.gif
