31st July 2016
It’s ABC burning Flames of Desire over 34 years since The Look Of Love gave them their only other chart topper. Pure class. Up 25 places to 7 it’s Kwamie Liv, Danish Singer-songwriter with her sultry gorgeous Higher. A real grower. Meanwhile the under-rated American solo singer Max Jury gets his 2nd top 10 with the lovely Love That Grows Old, rocketing to 10 from 44. Another under-rated act for some years is American singer-songwriter Lissie, she’s had quite a few charts entries with me, and a couple of top 10’s, but is yet to taste real chart success. Lissie, Max and Kwamie all have vocal passion, something that seems out of fashion give or take Adele, at least in the singles charts. Christine And The Queens shoot into the top 40, side by side with another French act, while highest new entry is from Fitz And The Tantrums, HandClap, is a fab slice of indiepop EDM from the L.A. band. 1 3 1 3 THE FLAMES OF DESIRE ABC 315000 2 2 1 10 SAVE IT Salt Ashes 980300 3 1 1 11 OTRA ERA Javiera Mena 532700 4 7 2 13 HOTTER THAN HELL Dua Lipa 513550 5 4 2 6 HELL OF A GIRL Grace 378200 6 6 6 3 LET ME KNOW No Wyld 129250 7 32 7 3 HIGHER Kwamie Liv 71800 8 5 3 11 HOLD ON Richard Ashcroft 455200 9 11 1 12 SWIPE TO THE RIGHT Jean-Michel Jarre featuring Cyndi Lauper 820200 10 44 10 2 LOVE THAT GROWS OLD Max Jury 55250 11 9 3 6 WHEN THE NIGHT COMES Jeff Lynne’s ELO 274300 12 10 1 12 BURN Pet Shop Boys 1030000 13 15 13 4 YOU DON’T KNOW LOVE Olly Murs 79600 14 19 14 21 YOU DON’T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME Dusty Springfield 249050 15 74 15 3 WILD WEST Lissie 35000 16 29 16 3 HEY Willa 60800 17 24 17 3 PORCELAIN Skott 59500 18 12 3 11 CRY Sigma featuring Take That 445200 19 14 4 11 ALL IN THE NAME Bright Light Bright Light featuring Elton John 310350 20 23 20 4 INVINCIBLE Firebeatz and DubVision featuring Ruby Prophet 61350 21 13 6 16 THIS GIRL (KUNGS VS COOKIN' ON 3 BURNERS RADIO EDIT) Kungs & Cookin' On 3 Burners 493550 22 28 22 3 BALLROOM BLITZ The Sweet 55100 23 21 1 7 MAKE IT WITH YOU Bread 556000 24 60 24 2 TILTED Christine And The Queens 29000 25 26 25 2 LA FEMME A LA BLEUE (CHEZ TOI) Vendredi sur Mer 37250 26 35 26 5 GONE (ROBERT DELONG REMIX) Jr Jr 66900 27 27 27 5 FEELING ELECTRIC Parade Of Dreams 82800 28 8 8 12 TWENTY-SOMETHING Pet Shop Boys 317300 29 NEW 29 1 HANDCLAP Fitz And The Tantrums 18200 30 54 30 2 KILL ‘EM WITH KINDNESS Selena Gomez 29000 31 20 14 9 YOU BRING THE SUMMER The Monkees 181700 32 36 32 2 LATE AT NIGHT Generik 35200 33 16 16 10 MY MOON Sweet Coffee 175200 34 17 17 10 ALL NIGHT LONG Rochelle 151500 35 37 35 3 RISE Katy Perry 51800 36 38 36 2 MAKE YOU STAY The Girl And The Dreamcatcher 34600 37 18 4 12 IF LOVE WAS A CRIME Poli Genova 450300 38 22 7 9 BIRTH OF AN ACCIDENTAL HIPSTER The Monkees 301800 39 39 39 3 REALITY IN MOTION Tame Impala 36800 40 40 40 2 CLOSER Josef Salvat 34000 ***************************** 41 33 33 3 BLUSH TP4Y 45450 42 25 25 5 TIR NA NOG Celtic Woman featuring Oonagh 87150 43 30 30 5 HOW DO I LOVE YOU Infinity Ink featuring Yasmin 66600 44 45 44 3 WHAT’S IT GONNA BE Shura 31250 45 31 21 5 HIGH Jesper Jenset 86900 46 70 46 3 MAKE ME... Hey John! Just gave 'Wild West' a listen - Lissie never disappoints. I'm also a fan of Fitz & The Tantrums, although 'HandClap' hasn't made much of an impression on me. Willa 'Hey' was my favorite song from the last BJSC, would've come even closer to winning if only I'd entered that contest - "doh!" as you might say!
Dierks dropping out, hope it's not his last ever appearance on your chart. I'd also love to see Fifth Harmony re-enter to get a better peak. Nice chart! |

Hooray for Christine and the Queens' huge jump on your chart!
Also this is the first I hear of The Monkees having released an album in 2016. I had assumed like most of the not-Beatles/Rolling Stones 60's acts they weren't really around anymore. xP Kind of sad about This Girl falling though. But it sounds like it had a decent enough run on the charts. |

I'm into ABC's album at the mo, it's a complete great whole Really happy you like the Fitz song, I came across it randomly and gave it a load of handclaps right off I'm fond of the whistling in selena's track. Not enough whistling in pop music cheers! John |

Thanks for popping by, and yes I luv Lissie too, always classy. I'd not come across Fitz before, I must dig around in their back catalogue. I liked this one cos it was a bit different in a sort of Safe And Sound-ish way. Hey is also growing on me still, so yes "Doh!" at it not quite winning Shame about Dierks, still liking that one, I played it to mum n dad in the car the other day, they both like country music, so thanks for the tip! He's just been edged out by the competition. Ditto Fifth harmony, though it's charted top 40 in the UK now - my main reason for dropping it is Fetty Wap, I really can't listen to his vocals without imagining him sat on the toilet singing with constipation cheers! john |

I think it was Davy's death that spurred them on, along with various star name fans writing them new songs. Mickey's often worked in the UK in between various comeback tours, I even saw him in Hairspray, singing and dancing a few years back in London. Kungs is fab, but it's lost it's freshness for me now, it's rare tracks hang around at the top for 3 months in my charts, though! cheers! john |
