What does the 89.26 mean for ROM? I used to think it meant the audience in millions but I guess not if it's that high.

No, that's right, it is the audience in millions.

Impressive stuff - perfect time of her career bein supported by both BBC channels giving her the biggest possible audience. Surprised 'Blinding Lights' isn't higher!

I've a feeling 'Be Kind' will fall quickly considering how poorly it's doing!

This is the least they can do to redeem themselves for having ignored her between 2014-2019. Radio 2 has always given more support to her than Radio 1, which didn't even include Shallow (a smash hit that's still in the UK Charts, even though it was released almost 2 years ago) but had and has included songs that weren't successful in the UK.

Stupid Love is Gaga's official return on Pop, the radios had been waiting for it for 7 years, and met expectations, it was a Top 5 hit in the UK and US and Top 10 in the rest of the planet. And about "payola", it doesn't make sense to accuse her of that since the UK doesn't count airplay on its chart, US being the only country in the world that included airplay on its chart (and there, Stupid Love reached a weak peak of only #18 on the radio).

so 'The Cure' is not pop. ok... Radio is one of the ways to discover a new music. I'm so happy it is not ruining official chart in the UK but it still helps to sales and streams. Pretty obvious connection. That's why I don't understand those high radio numbers for Gaga's songs.

It's also worth noting that radio doesn't have quite the same impact on streaming as it does sales where Gaga is still comfortably #1. I'd argue playlist payola is much more concerning.

It doesn't but I think it helps songs up the iTunes chart and if you make the top 10 on iTunes there's a chance that'll spread to streaming playlist.

I have already explained that if Gaga used payola she would invest the money on US radio, which has a direct and real effect on the charts and not in the UK radio where it doesn't even count for the charts. Effect on iTunes is worthless since nowadays streaming dominates 80% of the chart weight... Whether you understand this or not it's your problem. angel.gif

The effect of radios on iTunes has nothing to do with streaming, which has a weight bigger than 80% on the singles chart today. Even if you stay at #1 on iTunes all week, it doesn't guarantee you a Top 10 on the singles chart (with the exception of charity singles) if you don't perform well on streaming.

But if you climb into the top 10 on iTunes due to radio plays it can give an indication to the popularity of a song and maybe lead to more support at streaming.

So if we were to follow that reasoning, Stupid Love would be the biggest hit of the year in the UK, and it's not. Also, Stupid Love, even though it dominates the biggest weeks of the year on the UK radio, is only the 8th biggest song of the year on the radios so far.

It's not really the arguement I'm making tbf and I didn't say it counted with every song. It was a generalised statement and not a statement of fact.

As for 'Stupid Love' it was a decent sized hit imo.

You said that if a song catches the top 10 on iTunes, it has a chance of getting streaming support, which is not necessarily true, as Shallow lived at the top of iTunes UK for a very long time and it didn't have the proper support from the UK playlists.

About UK Radio, Gaga was blacklisted by Radio 1 since 2013. Stupid Love was the first Gaga song to enter their A-List playlist since DWUW in 2013. During Joanne's era, only Perfect Illusion entered their playlist, and entered the worst, "C-List", for only 4 weeks, and then it was removed. Million Reasons is walking to Platinum without their support, since it hasn't entered any of their playlists. The Cure is also on its way to platinum even though it only went up to their B-List playlist. Even Shallow, one of the biggest songs of the second half of the 2010s never had the support of any of their playlists. The support for her singles this year is just one way they can redeem themselves for had done her dirty in the past.

'Shallow' still made it to no1 for 3 weeks so not being on the playlists didn't effect it anyway.

I understand you are annoyed by previous non support for Gaga on radio 1 but sure they are supporting her again now as she's had a bit of a comeback following the movie Shallow came from. But it didn't stop her doing well so it doesn't matter.
