It's Christmas #1 Week! Current #1 'Perfect' by Ed Sheeran has been selling strong - with another remix released this week, titled 'Perfect Symphony' with none other than Andrea Bocelli, can it extend its run and claim the Christmas #1? New releases that aim to reach the top spot include songs from Lucy Spraggan, Michael Ball & Alfie Boe, Fall Out Boy and Captain Ska. There's campaigns to see AC/DC's 'For Those About To Rock (We Salute You)' and Wham's 'Last Christmas' to the top, in honor respectively of founding member Malcolm Young and of George Michael. Other contenders include Mariah Carey's 'All I Want for Christmas is You' and Eminem's new album track 'River' that features Ed Sheeran. On the subject of Eminem, his album Revival is a big contender for #1 this week, but the likes of Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and Michael Ball & Alfie Boe will also be achieving big sales in the run up to Christmas. Other albums released include those from Asking Alexandria, G-Eazy, Linkin Park, N.E.R.D and Charli XCX. Breakdown of the week - Saturday and Sunday: Information on Twitter from MintRoyale only. Please do not make requests, we do not have any information other than what's posted. - Monday: OCC Top 100 + Radio 1 Chart Update 5:30pm to 5:45pm. - Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one. - Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed. - Thursday: See Tuesday. Other notes (please read) - You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod). - Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue. - Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored. - To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads. |

PLEASE NOTE: It's highly possible that we won't receive full midweeks until the New Year, other than snippets supplied from the OCC. Please don't ask for updates as they'll just be deleted. Midweeks will be supplied when/if we receive them.

TEAM WHAM!
Leona to make progress inside the top 40. I think Ed has #1 album sewn up sadly. |

I suspect the Xmas songs will actually do better the week after, since they'll have 4 days of streaming the following week.

Given Ed is chucking every remix out under the sun like he did with SOY he stands a very good chance of staying on but think Wham and Mariah will give him a run for his money.
Eminem has the album wrapped up nicely can see him shifting 100k easily this week. |

I suspect the Xmas songs will actually do better the week after, since they'll have 4 days of streaming the following week. technically they'll have close to 5 days streaming since Thursday streams are still (as far as I am aware) estimated, being based on streams from the previous 6 days and are heavily weighted in favour of streaming patterns from the previous weekend.

Do we think River has any chance of getting no 1 this week?
I reckon it's definitely a contender, Eminem's album streams could be huge. |

Hoping Eminem will have the Xmas No.1 album.
Also hope we get an updated album sales list next week too. This post has been edited by Crazy Christmas: Dec 15 2017, 04:52 PM |

Maybe on a normal week but surely not on Christmas week? Not convinced he'll get the #1 at all (he certainly has a chance but the album is getting pretty bad reviews which won't help).

Think Ed is being overcriticised but I personally don't like the song so hoping for Wham to take it.

Old Christmas songs seem to be particularly high in terms of chart positions this year. Mariah is at 2 which matches her previous peak and wham at 3. Is this due to a lack of competition this year, poor sales or maybe the popularity of these songs standing the test of time? What do other people think? The current singles market appears weak with no1 single averaging just over 50k each week since the summer and limited turnover in the top10.

It's just because Spotify is becoming more and more dominant each year. IIRC the streaming chart last year was similarly dominated by Christmas songs.
(that said the Xmas songs seemed to take off faster and more than last year even on Spotify). |

It would be so funny if his Eminem collaboration got the Xmas number 1 after all the fuss but I'm not sure it will but should debut top 10 with ease

I think Eminem will get it easily. I can see him surprising people. Bad reviews don’t tend to effect music the way they do films I don’t find. |
