Dexton's Top 40 (19/12/2017) (Week 32)
Craig David & Bastille get the Christmas #1! Craig David's I Know You featuring Bastille takes the cake for Christmas #1 this week, removing Camila Cabello from the top - thus Never Be The Same matches Havana's length at the top of just one week. Despite having the most individual #1's from the chart, it is Rita Ora who has spent the longest amount of time on top with Anywhere. Jax Jones sits at #3 whilst his You Don't Know Me collaborator, RAYE, climbs into the Top 5 for the first time (6-4) with Decline featuring Mr Eazi. Rita falls to #5 and completes the Top 5. So far the chart is significantly non-Christmas, but all that changes at #6 as Sia grabs her first Top 10 hit with Candy Cane Lane (22-6). Candy Cane Lane (and Sia's entire Christmas album, but more on that later) is a playful song that shows how wacky Sia can become - singing about candy canes and reciting the rainbow. The Pogues are also here at #9 with the ultimate Christmas song, Fairytale of New York featuring the late Kirsty MacColl. Gaining her second Top 10 hit in three weeks is Ina Wroldsen with Strongest - completing her Sia-like single with heartbreaking lyrics over upbeat production Notable climbers this week are Not3s's My Lover (Original / Mabel Remix) (17-10), Camila Cabello's Real Friends (13-12), Sia's Santa's Coming For Us (36-13), Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You (24-15), Wham!'s Last Christmas (40-16), Ariana Grande's Santa Tell Me (32-18), Slade's Merry Xmas Everybody (37-27), and The Killers' A Great Big Sled (33-28). Most of which are obviously Christmas songs, aside from Not3s and Camila Cabello who have done well to fight the holiday invasion. Certain songs which have suffered the most include Little Mix's Is Your Love Enough? (11-27), Six60's Rolling Stone (12-23), Stormzy's Blinded By Your Grace, Pt.2 featuring MNEK (15-28), and Eminem's Walk On Water featuring Beyoncé (26-36). The latter of which fell on the week of the release of his latest album, Revival, which enters at #1 in the albums chart. I wasn't expecting to love Revival as much as I do. I enjoyed Walk On Water but the novelty of Eminem x Beyoncé wore off quickly and I was soon reminiscing of the times of Eminem's more crazy songs (to this day I never fail to rap the majority of Without Me) But then the album came along and gave us some much, much more exciting songs than Walk On Water prepared us for. I don't really have a clear favourite at the moment: Remind Me was instant and I fell in love both with the sample and Eminem's lyrical genius within it, but I've also been giving extra listens to River featuring Ed Sheeran, Offended, Heat, In My Head, and Believe. River featuring Ed Sheeran and Remind Me enter the chart this week at #35 and #26 respectively. Another big release, which again I was not expecting to enjoy so much, is Pharrel Williams-led N.E.R.D.'s NO_ONE EVER REALLY DIES. Lemon has only just started to hit me (which I am loving right now ) but the album actually has so much more to offer than just a brilliant collaboration with Rihanna. Similar to Revival, this album is equally fun and political but somehow finds the perfect balance. Deep Down Body Thurst enters my chart at #32, and Future collaboration 1000 enters at #39 whilst Lemon climbs to #27. Thanks for reading! Top 40 Songs (#31) 01 02 Craig David — I Know You (feat. Hello Dexton.
Good #1, however for me it's not as good as "Havana". I like that the Christmas songs gain big! As for your new entries that I know: "Remind Me": Not a good song, very disappointing from Eminem. "River": I like this song, one of my favourites from Eminem's disappointing new album. "1000": Decent song and Future has made a lot worst in his career. "IDGAF": I love this song, the production, the lyrics and of course Dua Lipa's vocals are all great! Hope this becomes a hit! As for your album chart: I knew that "Revival" would be #1, even though it's disappointing for me, at least it's better then "Encore" and "Relapse". Great chart overall! |

Hi Dexton!
Craig's doing well in quite a few charts on here! Is this a sign it's going to be massive in the new year? Same with Breathe! I really hope it can be at least as much a hit as You Don't Know Me! Great to see Santa's Coming For Us on the way up as well! Such a great song, I should listen to the rest of the album Great chart |

As for your album chart: I knew that "Revival" would be #1, even though it's disappointing for me, at least it's better then "Encore" and "Relapse". Great chart overall! Hey Sergej! Christmas songs are all rising nicely For now anyway Shame you don't like Remind Me or Eminem's album as a whole I admit though it's not as good as his older albums (bar Relapse. TMMLP2 wasn't great for the most part either) Is your liking to River anything to do with Ed's feature? I don't like any of Future's solo stuff I did love Calvin Harris's Rollin' though, and he wasn't terrible on Maroon 5's Cold IDGAF to be Dua's next UK Top 10 Relapse is definitely his worst effort to date - Encore is a close second but Just Lose It helps the album a little. Compared to his discography I'd say Revival is around the middle. It's no where near his worst, but it's also quite far from his best Thanks for commenting! Hi Dexton! Craig's doing well in quite a few charts on here! Is this a sign it's going to be massive in the new year? Same with Breathe! I really hope it can be at least as much a hit as You Don't Know Me! Great to see Santa's Coming For Us on the way up as well! Such a great song, I should listen to the rest of the album Great chart Hey Pete! I sure hope so I Know You is much, much better than Heartline and deserves Top 10 at least I feel like Breathe is destined for a #11 peak or something I hope I'm wrong though Sia's one of the few artists who has suceeded in making a brilliant Christmas album, and the fact that it's entirely new material is amazing too. She could've easily just covered the standard Christmas songs in the same way as Michael Buble has been doing but I'm happy she didn't Candy Cane Lane, Ho Ho Ho, and Santa's Coming For Us are amazing Thanks for commenting! Great to see Candy Cane Lane your highest entry from Everyday is Christmas, so many great tracks on the album! It's a great Christmas album! Shame she didn't promote it more of she could've got a hit from it Thanks for commenting! |
