Next week's top 10 contender
Maroon 5 Maps V | 2014 Release date: 24-08-2014 Format: digital single Label: Interscope Records Video here: Biography Maroon 5 (formerly known as Kara's Flowers) is an American pop rock band that originated in Los Angeles, California. The group was formed in 1994 as Kara's Flowers while its members were still in high school. The original members of the band were: Adam Levine, Jesse Carmichael, Mickey Madden and Ryan Dusick; they signed to Reprise Records and released an album, The Fourth World, in 1997. After a tepid response to the album, the band parted ways with the record label and the members attended college. In 2001, the band regrouped, with James Valentine added to the lineup, and pursued a new direction under the name: Maroon 5. The band signed with Octone Records and released their debut album, Songs About Jane, in June 2002. The album's lead single "Harder to Breathe", received heavy airplay, which helped the album to debut at number six on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's second and third singles, "This Love" and "She Will Be Loved", became worldwide hits reaching the top five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The band won the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2005. For the next few years, the band toured extensively worldwide in support of Songs About Jane and produced two live recordings: 2004's 1.22.03.Acoustic and 2005's Live – Friday the 13th. In 2006, drummer, percussionist and backing vocalist Ryan Dusick left the band and was replaced by Matt Flynn. The band recorded their second album, It Won't Be Soon Before Long, and released in May 2007. The album reached number one on the US Billboard 200 chart and the lead single, "Makes Me Wonder", became the band's first number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100. Hands All Over, the band's third studio album was released in September 2010 and peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2011, the album was re-released and supported by their single "Moves like Jagger" featuring American singer Christina Aguilera. The song became the band's second single to reach number one on the Hot 100 chart; it has sold over 14.4 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles worldwide. The band released their fourth studio album, Overexposed, in June 2012. The album peaked at number two on the Billboard 200 chart. The first two singles from the album "Payphone" and "One More Night", were both international hits and peaked at two and one on the Hot 100 chart respectively. In 2014, the band signed Interscope Records and recorded their fifth studio album, V, which is set to be released on September 2, 2014. Since its debut in 2002, the band has sold more than 10 million albums in the United States and over 30.8 million digital singles and 27 million albums worldwide. In 2013, Maroon 5 became the third most-played artist on Top 40 Mainstream radio, based on Clear Channel owned Mediabase, becoming one of the most successful acts of Interscope Records. - Wikipedia Chart history (Year peak title): 2004 13 Harder To Breathe -1- 2004 03 This Love -2- 2004 04 She Will Be Loved -3- 2004 27 Sunday Morning -4- 2005 39 Must Get Out -5- 2007 02 Makes Me Wonder -1- 2007 33 Wake Up Call -2- 2007 44 Won't Go Home Without You -3- 2008 28 If I Never See Your Face Again (Maroon 5 Feat. OMG I didn't think people were being that serious when they said this was exactly like Wake Me Up, that breakdown is IDENTICAL The verses sound a bit ripped off from Moves Like Jagger and the chorus from Don't You Worry Child/his OWN song Titanium. Oh David

Can't wait to see where Break Free ends up next week.
#4 for Taylor is amazing with an OA/OS release, hopefully she'll stop being stubborn and put it on Spotify soon, to help it sustain a healthy chart run |

Lovers on the Sun is a decent #1, good on David for staying relevant! I just wish he wouldn't rip off other songs so shamelessly.

Album chart new entries (6-40)
6 (new entry) Twin Atlantic - "Great Divide" Chart run: 6- (1 week) Top 100 hit singles from this album: 17 Heart And Soul 47 Brothers And Sisters Chart history: 2011 37 Free 2014 06 Great Divide ~ 27 (new entry) Wiz Khalifa - "Blacc Hollywood" Chart run: 27- (1 week) Top 100 hit singles from this album: none Chart history: 2011 47 Rolling Papers 2014 27 Blacc Hollywood ~ 35 (new entry) Blackberry Smoke - "Leave A Scar - Live North Carolina" Chart run: 35- (1 week) Top 100 hit singles from this album: none Chart history: 2014 30 The Whippoorwill 2014 35 Leave A Scar - Live North Carolina ~ 40 (new entry) Imogen Heap - "Sparks" Chart run: 40- (1 week) Top 100 hit singles from this album: none Chart history: 2009 39 Ellipse 2014 40 Sparks ~ Well this week has demonstrated why I wait until 7pm to post this second post when R1 doesn't update the album chart - the OCC report didn't mention Blackberry Smoke's new entry. I did think it was odd that would drop out while Imogen Heap remained. Anyhow, Wiz Khalifa picking up a top 40 album only now is very odd, considering his one album with a hit single missed out and the follow-up to that didn't even go top 100 - what's the bigger attraction now?! (Aside from lower sales making it easier to chart higher etc. but I'm sure he could have at LEAST managed top 100 with that last album ) And Blackberry Smoke making the top 40 with a live album is very impressive given live albums typically don't do that well for big artists, let alone ones which only have one top 30 studio album to their name! |

Well this week has demonstrated why I wait until 7pm to post this second post when R1 doesn't update the album chart - the OCC report didn't mention Blackberry Smoke's new entry. I did think it was odd that would drop out while Imogen Heap remained. Yes, I deleted the paragraph about Blackberry Smoke when I saw the OCC report. Thankfully I added it to the "out-takes" document so I didn't have to rewrite it. |
