BuzzJack Music Forum _ Lady Gaga _ Which Gaga song do you relate to the most?

Posted by: JosephStyles 29th May 2020, 09:24 PM

Time to get soppy. Which Gaga song (just one if you can ohmy.gif) is the track you relate to the most? If you're willing to, tell us why as well heart.gif

My pick is perhaps an OBVIOUS one if you know me well, of course it has to be Hair. On a surface level it sums me up so perfectly - my hair is a big part of my identity and I'm proud of that, I embrace it. It's how I express myself and has been a part of me for roughly half my life, and that's not going to change! Additionally though, if you look at it as being a song generally about acceptance and being yourself, I relate to that too. I express myself and my interests in the way I want, and sure, I'd love to be accepted by everyone, but I'm not changing to be able to do that. It's so powerful and empowering heart.gif

Over to y'all x

Marry the Night. It's about 'marrying' what is difficult about your life and I remember feeling SO inspired when she explained it. Whenever I go through difficult times in my life I *always* find myself returning to it which in turn really helps me. I so often used to find shame in struggling and I viewed it as a weakness - but this song changed that smile.gif

The Edge of Glory, just has helped give me that motivation when I'm felt down. It's helped when I've gone tough parts in my life. It really does pick me up when needed.

On a spiritual level, the title track of ARTPOP. I don't know if other people feel this, but it sums up my feelings of being weird compared with everyone else and all the elements of myself socially I hate and gives the message to be what you want to be, you know best. My ARTPOP could mean everything x

This is the reason why the album as a whole means so much to me I think.

Million Reasons

This really speaks to me on a much deeper level than the obvious 'walking away from a relationship'. I think whenever I listen to this song it really gives me hope and confidence - with just one good reason - to keep pushing on and not let life and the obstacles it throws in your way get the better of you. The 'you' the lyrics refer to is the world around me, my own demons and such, and then the chorus kicks in and feels empowering and optimistic. It's a rollercoaster of emotions, but in the best way.

I love what this song means for you. I genuinely think of you whenever I hear it! I think it has wide-appeal for a lot of her fans with its message of acceptance, but it goes that extra mile for you.

Great choice here wuth a beautiful explanation. The song is extremely special and embracing what you perceive as dark parts of your being and accepting them is a great way of moving forward and being stronger. heart.gif

Lovely pick! The song is so anthemic and really gives you power when you need it.

Didn't expect to see this here ohmy.gif That's a really insightful interpretation of the song and one that i've never really considered. I need to listen to it again with this in mind!

cry.gif heart.gif This is beautiful Calum. If you take out the relationship aspect of the song, it is definitely a song about fighting in the face of adversity and not giving up no matter how many knock backs you have. Ugh i'm emotional now <3

Mine is 'Dance in the Dark' a song which defined so many years of my life - being positive and cheery and optimistic, but deep down being in the dark and feeling at a loss with myself. Over time, I have learnt to be optimistic and cheery without those demons and this song majorly helped me through that. I no longer "won't dance to the beat of the track" or "walk away" or "fall apart".

The lyrics here in particular relate to me: "find your freedom in the music, find your Jesus, find your Kubrick". I am obviously a huge music fan, and Gaga's in particular set me free, also my family are fairly religious and growing up, my sexuality (I felt) was at conflict with my parents' thoughts so the reference to religion here struck a chord with me as I grew up and discovered my sexuality. And finally, as a big movie fan, Kubrick's films are what got me into cinema. I eventually found myself in his art, and Gaga including him in a song too means it all came full-circle and almost like it was meant to be! HausofKubrick was born as a result *_* As a "little monster" now too, this song is so in line with the monstrous and the macabre; vampire grins, howling at the moon etc.

More than anything, the song relates to me so much because it is about shadows and finding the confidence to come out of them and just dance and be free. I do that so freely now and I am not ashamed of who I am. I'm a free bitch x

I love all of these explanations, it's amazing just how much Gaga's touched us with her music. Keep them coming heart.gif

Born This Way I think would be it for me. Not in terms of how I express myself (as I am a dialled down diva xXx), but in terms of the message it conveys and the sense of unity it brings. It really is a song that creates a space for people. It's kitsch as f***, camp as f***, and is one of the most fun things Gaga's ever done. I think at heart I'm a really goofy person who loves a sense of fun and that's what I'm attracted to so that helps. I also love that really anyone can relate to it if they want to.

Right now I’d probably say Shallow because my life was heading in a direction where I was about to dive in from the deep end and start a whole new career / life journey until corona happened.

In the past I’d definitely say Born This Way though! That was released when I was first starting to realise what I was and the song definitely helped me out a LOT! I think that’s perhaps her most important song / statement she’s ever done to be honest. It saved lives, helped people be who they are and for an artist at that stage in her career to release a song with the words gay, bi, lesbian and transgender in it too I really don’t think people who are straight will ever fully get how big a thing that was!

(911 from the new album) “My biggest enemy is me” literally the most me lyric there is.

'Born This Way' is another HUGE one. The way she prepared her fans for the song months before its release, and sharing the lyrics before the actual song so it gave us that bit of strength before hearing it. It changed my life! (as did the rest of the album that followed).

Honestly while it may be premature to say, I think Rain On Me! It's one of those songs that comes exactly at the right time, and I've been through a lot of shit in my life but the way I try to look at things is exactly that song, you could be totally dry and free of all the stuff that happened, but even if it does rain on you, you come out the other side and you're alive, things won't get the best of me because I've weathered so many storms, so what's another one? It makes me think about my own struggles from the past a lot, but also with what we're all going through right now, it hits home for everyone's situation in the hardest most poignant way yet the most joyful. In a time like this, we've all got to find whatever good we can, that's what I'm clinging to and Chromatica is one of those shining lights!

Definitely relate to Bal a lot on DITD too, sums up a lot of the things I hid for a long time and the fact that music and pop culture (Gaga being one of the absolute biggest examples) was always a medium where I can let it out, express it or let myself feel those things, oftentimes "in the dark" but also on here and eventually I found solid social circles, and I didn't have to explore that side of myself in the dark anymore and hide it away. I guess that relates to BTW too, I used to be so unsure of myself and embarrassed to admit I liked pop music because I wasn't surrounded by people who did, and I thought I'd be bullied for being "gay" for liking it (even though I wasn't sure of my sexuality at that point), but a lot of Gaga's music hits home that message that it's okay to be who you are, love who you are, enjoy what you enjoy, I didn't care anymore and I wore that with pride, it was the Born This Way era that made me change the way I looked at myself and began to be a bit more proud of who I was.
