Hello! Welcome back to Unkown Pleasures. Thank you to everyone for sending your entries — all twenty-five of you. I wasn't quite sure what to expect or how many people would take part, so really, thank you. It's an eclectic mix of songs that I have been selfishly enjoying for the past few days. It's just a shame I have to share them with you all. Rules Once you have listened to all 25 songs at least 25 times (~I'll know~), then it's time to start voting. To vote, please send me a PM (blacksquare) with your favourite 12 tracks in the following order: 20 (Favourite) 15 points 12 points 10 points 08 points 07 points 06 points 05 points 04 points 03 points 02 points 01 (12th Favourite) Unfortunately, not every song gets a vote. Luckily, those who don't will receive a hugging GIF from me. 01 Please don't reveal which song you submitted. 02 You can discuss the songs you have been enjoying, or not, but please don't reveal your votes. 03 The penalty for not voting will be a 20 point deduction from your track, so please don't forget. 04 If you haven't entered but still want to participate in listening and voting — you're more than welcome! Entries I have created a Spotify playlist for those who are more like me and don't tend to use MP3s anymore. However, I have also made a compilation album for those who do. Something for everyone. So accommodating~ 01 Sarathy Korwar ‘Bol (feat. Zia Ahmed & Aditya Prakash)’ 02 Thylacine ‘Versailles' 03 乌龟tortoise 'Sun Quan the Emperor (Guzheng & Drum Version)’ 04 Robots in Disguise ‘DIY’ 05 Black Country, New Road ‘Sunglasses (Edit)’ 06 9mm Parabellum Bullet ‘ハートに火をつけて (Heart ni Hi wo Tsukete)' 07 Liar ‘Benzolovers' 08 Fiona Walden ‘Shoot Me Down' 09 Luttrell ‘Windowscene' 10 Sophia Bel 'Time' 11 Jake Shimabukuro ‘The Greatest Day' 12 Snapped Ankles ‘Tailpipe’ 13 Prosumer & Murat Tepeli ‘Go Silla' 14 Uppermost 'Given by Nature' 15 Elísabet ‘Heart Beats' 16 Hana Vu ‘At the Party’ 17 American Football ‘Silhouettes' 18 Faye Webster ‘She Won't Go Away' 19 Flunk ‘Queen of the Underground’ 20 Mall Grab ‘Liverpool Street In the Rain' 21 JeanGa & George 'Compromise' 22 HVOB ‘Panama' 23 SASSY 009 ‘Are You Leaving' 24 Toundra ‘Magreb' 25 Deja Blu 'Lake Song' Spotify playlist excludes 乌龟tortoise 'Sun Quan the Emperor (Guzheng & Drum Version), which is currently unavailable. Your deadline is 23:59 Sunday 25th August, with the ~results ceremony~ happening within the year. See you then! This post has been edited by blacksquare: 14th August 2019, 05:46 PM |

Ooh yay. I'm really endeared by the band Flunk, been listening to them for a long time, although I don't know this song v well. Thylacine is another familiar name, I've liked what I've heard from them. Again, I don't think I know this song tho.

Interesting that we're back at 25 entries (the same number as the contest before last had) after the last contest randomly spiked to 39 entries which was way more than any previous edition had - 25 is still a fine number ofc but a bit of a shame that we've lost so many who participated last time!
There are two or three artist names that I recognise (excluding my own ofc) but I don't think I've ever heard any songs by any of those artists so this should all be new to me anyhoo! |

I've listened through each song now and a few things stood out:
a. there is only one song which I genuinely enjoy (other than my own) b. there appear to be a plethora of instrumental tracks; whilst I do not dislike instrumental music, unfortunately, when you listen to ~10 songs in a row, nearly, which are like this, I tend to switch off. There are a few which I enjoyed but only a small number c. there's also a lot of female artists; in the previous contest which I entered (a number of years ago), I loved the sounds of Beatrice Eli's 'Girls' and Rainsford's 'Too Close', for example, but I have not been enamoured with what I have heard thus far I've been able to eliminate around half of the songs based on the initial listen but the rest I will give another go. |

I agree with most of this. I seem to have rated songs I listened to earlier higher. Not sure if that was just the look of the shuffle or that I was just bored by what seems to be a fairly samey playlist and not much to differentiate them. |

I suspect as to the instrumentals and female vocals, a lot of us have tried to go for something unexpected to what would normally be the case in a contest like this, and as it happens we've all gone off the beaten track in the same direction, each thinking this would help our entry stand out :')

voted. There was one standout actual song/track in a plethora of interesting tracks. The variety was good, but in terms of standard song formats, not a lot going on. I liked the tracklisting though, it was a journey of ups and downs

Not sure if that was just the look of the shuffle or that I was just bored by what seems to be a fairly samey playlist and not much to differentiate them. I shuffled the entire playlist and then placed each song based on the order they played. It does seem a little all over the place at the beginning, but then the latter half seems to be more of a similar vibe at times. |
