It was confirmed today that Latvia will be using Supernova once again and all of the details can be found over on escXtra.
This is of course great news as we love Riga Beaver, we love the international voting and I've loved both Aminata and Justs. Hopefully, somehow, they can make it 3 amazing entries in a row! |

Latvia will be using Spotify to determine the winner of Supernova 2017, but it isn't confirmed if this will be alongside a televote/jury or whether it will be international streams or just Latvian streams.
Great to see Latvia pioneering yet another voting method after their international voting has been so successful for the last couple of years. |

Anna Zankovska – “Rage Love” Crime Sea – “Escape” Edgars Kreilis – “We Are Angels” First Question – “Naked” Franco Franco – “Up” Katrina Cirule – “Blood Runs Quicker” Katrine Lukins – “Silhouette” Laura Lo and Chris Oak – “Little Weird” Lauris Valters – “Magic Years” Linda Leen – “Who Is In Charge” Markus Riva – “Dynamite” Miks Dukurs – “Spiritual Priest” Miks Galvanovskis – “Runaway” My Radiant You – “All I Know” Pikaso – “U (can Keep Your Cools)” Rock’n’Berries – “Feel the Love” Santa Da?elevica – “Your Breath” THE HiQ – “Taju Ot Lyubvi” The Ludvig – “I’m In Love With You” Toms Kalderauskis – “We Won’t Back Down” Triana Park – “Line” UP – “One by One” Some of the entries are already out there, including Markus Riva's, who I'm surprised is back after last year's controversial early exit. |

So Latvia are doing this new thing where Spotify streams are being incorporated into the voting (the exact percentage or specifics are...not clear exactly) so it should probably be worth noting which songs are currently doing the best on the Latvian Spotify Viral 50 (A lot of these aren't on YouTube yet, probably trying to maximise streams btw)
22. Miks Galvanovskis - Runaway 33. Toms Kalderauskis - We Won't Back Down 35. Pikaso - U (Can Keep Your Cools) 42. Anna Zankovska - Rage Love 43. My Radiant You - All I Know Listening to those top few is a stark bringing back down to the pre-Aminata Latvia days it must be said. My Radiant You is pretty much the only one that is at least kinda good and even then it's already outclassed in that field by NAVI from Belarus. Latvia are probably a decent bet for a non-qualification at this point. |

I read somewhere that each Spotify listen will be worth one vote and then each phone vote during the show will be worth four votes. I was assuming they'd include international listens too seeing as they encourage international televotes, which will be of great benefit to Markus Riva.
His song already has 11k listens, so I'm assume that's already 11k votes unless they are using a cut off point. Maybe the voting will begin when the semi draw is revealed next week (I think). The Ludvig had a bit of hype, he's on 4.7k listens. Triana Park are on 2.5k. My Radiant You are on 2k. Miks is on 8.4k and so on. |

The first heat of Supernova is on tonight for anyone that doesn't fancy the Swiss final. Although there is doubt over the Spotify data that was intended to be included in the voting as, surprise surprise, there looks to be foul play going on.
from wiwibloggs: QUOTE For example, one act — who we will not name — has amassed over 3,200 listens in the city of Boardman, Oregon, USA. As of the last US census in 2010, the city only had a population of 3,220 people. The same act achieved a staggeringly similar amount of listens in Los Angeles as well. Riga appears fourth on their list with around 1,400 listens. The logical thing to do of course would be to only count data from inside Latvia. |

I *think* I'm settled on Triana Park as my favourite out of the bunch (but really the term 'damning with faint praise' springs to mind) probably going nowhere but would be a nice shot of androgynous nu-wave energy in what might otherwise be a bit of a dull semi

2nd heat was so much stronger than a very weak first heat, I'm liking all of My Radiant You, The Ludvig and Triana Park - in that order from most to least. My Radiant You may perhaps be the worst one to send to Eurovision as the other two are more quirky and risky - which will pay off at Eurovision - but if one of these 3 then Latvia will have done well for themselves.

Funnily enough all 4 qualifiers from the semifinal came from heat 2: My Radiant You – All I Know Santa Danelevica – Your Breath The Ludvig – I’m In Love With You Triana Park – Line Not a bad selection actually. I think Santa and Triana Park are my favourites but all 4 are decent. |

Deservedly so, they've ended up with a strong final there - probably stronger than last years final despite it initially looking bleak after the first 2017 semi. I think I'm actually team Triana Park now, the song didn't do too much for me studio-wise but the live performance really elevates it! Can't remember anything else that looks or sounds like them on the Eurovision stage so would be a great choice.
Santa wouldn't qualify for the Eurovision final in my opinion, My Radiant You may struggle for being a bit too middle of the road despite me liking it a lot. Triana Park and The Ludvig are definitely the out-there quirky acts, and for that reason I think are the safest bets for a third consecutive qualification. |

Latvia have got themselves a 3rd great entry in a row with Triana Park taking victory with their synth-dance-rock entry 'Line'! *.*
