Hope David Guetta can go top 20 and ZAYN and Kurupt FM can go top 10 for the sake of freshness, fingers crossed I grow to like all three of the aforementioned. (only heard the David Guetta track as of now and it's average.)
Stay, Solo Dance and Cloudbusting are no longer 59p.

I have a feeling Stay will stabilize anyway, it's streaming has gone up significantly throughout the month

The ZAYN/PARTYNEXTDOOR song is very dancehall influenced, sounds a little like a more poppy Work/One Dance!

Looking forward to it, a garage tune in the charts will make a pleasant change from the usual tropical house and future bass mostly representing dance in the charts these days.

Not really feeling the Zayn song, it just sounds like a One Dance wannabe. Guetta is disappointing too.

PARTYNEXTDOOR turning into one the must-have artists of 2017. Bit like Ty Dolla Sign was last year. His melodies are amazing and the ZAYN song is very catchy. Chorus is an earworm and I can't see it not being a hit.
Great to see MIST in the Top 100 too, need to check the new Kendrick song!

Same here, most of the xmas charity tracks just bombed in the end. I can't see this been any different, mind you with Ed Sheeran on it, it could go neither way. Plus there are so many Ed Sheeran tracks in the 40 already, it might just get lost among them.... hopefully.

The repetitive synths are quite complex in it and I like that.
It would be good if it became a hit, doesn't really matter about the means. It is certainly livelier than most chart dance these days.
The Drake/Black Coffee collab Get It Together is also a step forward for chart dance (I would consider this a dance record), the Jorja Smith only vocal bits are great (although I don't like how it slows down for the Drake bits). I am hoping this becomes a single eventually.

I don't mind humorous lyrics, but I was hoping the instrumental was going to be a good garage track, but the instrumental really turned out a bit like the instrumental of a Stormzy track but more repetitive and less interesting.

I think charity singles can pretty much be consigned to history now, while this made for a funny sketch, it wouldn't have really worked as a lasting chart hit, it's very much a joke that wears thin by the second listen.
I reckon it would have charted at about #15 officially at best (it made almost no impact on iTunes on the fortunes of What Do I Know), so there hardly seems any point releasing it. They'd make precious little for the charity from the download and nobody would buy that on CD. It's amusing as a skit, and did it's job to raise money during the show, but better to remember it as a funny sketch than a flop single.

It seems such a missed opportunity though, Kurupt FM could have made a better, more melodic garage tune to go along with the humorous lyrics rather than just a repetitive bassline and beat and bring garage back into the charts.

I don't think Kendrick's song is a single, just a random song he's released (and it's not even on the new album). Kendrick is not really a singles artist anyway, he's had a few big hits as features of course but 'i' is his only top 40 as the lead artist and that was a very commercial sounding song by his standards. Hope streaming can get him at least one more top 40 from the new album lol ~

It's only meant to be a buzz single to tell the world he's coming back with a new album next month.

Why do people think Harry's song will be a comfortable Number One? Am I missing something? Yeah OK he's a member of one of the most famous pop bands of the last 5 years but Zayn, Louis and Niall aren't guaranteed easy Number Ones? So it's all based on hype at the moment right, no one's actually heard the song yet, have they?

The song's not been heard of course but he's the most popular member of the band and already has some pretty amazing hype, heightened by the fact a TV advert aired for his solo music during The Voice at the weekend!

That level of popularity and hype don't always translate to huge success though. I might be wrong but I just don't get why people are acting like it's a foregone conclusion that he'll be Number One.

It isn't a foregone conclusion but I think it's shaping up very well at this stage. People who've heard the song have said it's a huge hit in waiting, and the only songs to have been teased by a TV advert pre-release (to my knowledge) are Hello and the two Ed songs!

Zayn's hype, coupled with a strong song, got him a #1 debut last year, so I don't see why the more popular Harry won't follow, especially as sales for #1 will probably be down to 70k by that point so 40k sales and 35k streams would be more than enough, though I see both metrics being higher than that, streaming comfortably so.

To be fair, Zayn did get a fairly easy #1 with his debut (struggled more since, as Harry probably will past his first single depending on whether it's chart friendly enough) and Louis came pretty close. And I don't think anyone ever cared much for Niall. Harry is the biggest member of the group, if Zayn could get the #1 it'd be surprising if Harry doesn't, at least for a week.

In fairness to Niall, he released his song literally out of the blue midday Thursday. With only some hours of sales he debuted at 100 and the next week he was 9. Had he announced it a couple days before hand and then released on a Friday, he probably easily could've been top 5. I do agree though, I think Harry will probably get the #1 on his debut week based on hype alone, if its a good song it'll stay if not he'll probably struggle the rest of the way just like Zayn has.

I think if it gets an actual proper push it could be as big as Rag'n'Bone Man's 'Human' (which had a similarly slow start). She should go on Graham Norton or something.

Here's a bit of advice for the boss of Capital, how about playing a new release song instead of those you are still playing that were released last year (and in some cases the year before) !

Up to 1:45 it sounds a bit like a Gary Barlow track imo. The singer even sounds like Gary Barlow a bit.
As a dance song, that bit of the song is rather dull therefore imo. There is a bit of trance reminiscence with the synths from 1:45 to 2:44, and is a good effect, so that is my favourite bit.

You ought to check out some afro house artists if you like that, which to me is what the genre of Get It Together is.
Black Coffee is great - he has a good remix of In Common by Alicia Keys too - but of a similar vibe are Black Motion (check out Imali, Rainbow and It's You especially).
Some other deep house acts you'd like from South Africa are DJ Kent (Spin My World, Love You Still and Your Love are highlights) and Goldfish (Moonwalk Away and Deep Of The Night are brill).
This sounds like a plug for loads of my old BJSC flops (Goldfish excepted) but I absolutely LOVE afro house and South African deep house and love that Drake has brought it to the mainstream.

Heart FM is playing the Train song pretty much every 10 minutes.
I should've known they'd be behind it.

You ought to check out some afro house artists if you like that, which to me is what the genre of Get It Together is.

I thought Get Together was similar subgenre wise to the likes of Just Say by KDA and Tinashe, they both are very jazzy and have that sort of loungey feel to them.
Will have to listen to some of those songs you mentioned.
Well at least a song from a different subgenre Get Together charting is one good thing about the album tracks charting, I wonder eventually will there be some random trance track on some popular artist's album (Calvin maybe when he eventually releases) that would allow a top 40 hit in this genre again.....

Little Mix are #15 now.

Hoping Syco can get the promo front out on both accounts ASAP. Hoping 'Best Behaviour' at least hits iTunes top 15 after Saturday Night Takeaway. Also hope the video isn't too long away as they need to time everything to make sure it can get top 40 officially.

They really need to do something major to turn 'Best Behaviour' into a hit. It's struggling on Spotify even with Hot Hits UK. 'So Good' went top 50 on Spotify within 7 days IIRC.

They are doing something. Big promo slot on Saturday. So Good had an X Factor performance straight away.

True, but I hope they have something else lined up for after the SNT performance.

Exactly. Plus of course it's only on the C list on Radio 1 still, all things considered it's doing fine for now.

I'm sure Radio 2 were playing the Train song but they'll have dropped it by now.

In terms of new releases, I predict Calvin Harris will land around #6 and Cheat Codes around #25 officially, opinions? I don't think there're any other big tunes out.
Posted by: cqmerqn 30th March 2017, 06:15 PM
Calvin #3 Cheat Codes #17 (as long as it's featured on Hot Songs)

Are we 100% sure Calvin is releasing tomorrow?

Yup!
I think Calvin will debut higher than he managed with Slide, mainly because he has bigger names on this one. Cheat Codes could get a top 30 debut, fuelled mainly by Demi's fanbase I expect.

This could be interesting!
I'm pretty disappointed at the lack of UK talent on his records this time around though.

Keep an eye out for this track from Harry Shotta & ArsenalFanTV which is surprisingly good and is being released tomorrow on iTunes for charity in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. It's likely to be in the iTunes chart tomorrow but it will be probably be frontloaded and drop down fast after tomorrow.
Posted by: mdh 30th March 2017, 07:16 PM
We could be pleasantly surprised by the Cheat Codes song and it could debut straight into the top 10, it all depends on Spotify promotion. I suspect it'll go top 10 on iTunes and hold up well though.

I'm disappointed Becky Hill hasn't really clicked with the UK public, but none of her solo singles (potentially with the exception of 'Warm') are particularly mainstream, but even so only being #800ish on iTunes is disappointing

Warm & Rude Love have actually made me sit up and take notice of Becky, two great releases!
