Chart Comments

Little Mix become the first act to score two #1 singles this year, with their latest single 'Hair' climbing 3-1. More significantly, it is their 10th #1 single to date! Only Rihanna, Girls Aloud & The Saturdays have more #1 hits. Little Mix have released 13 singles to date; the three singles that failed to make it to the top are 'Little Me', 'Change Your Life' and 'Word Up!', which peaked at #6, #8 and #9 respectively. All four singles from the 'Get Weird' album have made it to #1 here, although said album has yet to enter my recently started-up Top 5 albums chart.

Rihanna has provided Drake with two #1 hits in my chart ('What's My Name?' and 'Work', on which he featured), but he has yet to hit the top spot as a lead artist. 'One Dance' comes close, climbing to #2 this week and thus bettering his previous biggest hits 'Find Your Love', 'Take Care' and 'Hold On, We're Going Home' (which all peaked at #3). Drake has had his fair share of flops too, with recent singles 'Right Hand', 'Jumpman', 'Summer Sixteen' and 'Pop Style' all failing to make my Top 40. 'Hotline Bling' peaked at #22.

Troye Sivan claimed his second #1 single with 'Youth' last week, but falls to #3 this week. With 515 chart points to date, 'Youth' is hot on the heels of his first #1 'Wild', which has scored 537 chart points. Both songs are taken from his sublime debut album 'Blue Neighbourhood'. <3

'Work From Home' stayed at #1 for an impressive 6 weeks for Fifth Harmony, the longest stay at #1 since Girls Aloud's 9 week run at the top with 'Something New' back in 2012. It's Fifth Harmony's biggest hit to date by far, with 790 chart points (platinum). Debut hit 'Bo$$' peaked at #4 and has a total of 201 points, follow-up 'Sledgehammer' reached #3 and achieved 307 points, while 'Worth It' managed #5 and 379 points. All three of these songs are silver certified.

Elle King's debut single 'Ex's & Oh's' only peaked at #20, but her new song 'America's Sweetheart' instantly improves on that by entering at #6.

'Just Like Fire' climbs into the Top 10 at #7 for P!nk, making it her highest peaking single since 2013's 'Just Give Me A Reason' (which reached #2). It's also her 12th Top 10 hit to date. 'Stupid Girls' was her first chart hit (#4 in 2006. My chart started in 2005, so sadly I have no chart history for her first three albums). 'Who Knew' is her only #1 to date (657 points, platinum, 24 weeks in the Top 40), but 'So What' had greater longevity despite a peak of #3 (712 points, platinum, 30 weeks).

Alan Walker - 'Faded' finally becomes a Top 20 hit this week, rising to #20 in its 12th week in the chart. There's no quick way of me being able to determine this from my chart archive, but I would assume that this is one of the longest stretches of time taken to climb into my Top 20.

Beyoncé is straight in at #1 with her sixth studio album 'Lemonade'. *.* It is her second "visual" album; the tracks are interwoven into a stunning one-hour film. My favourite tracks include 'Hold Up', 'Sorry', 'All Night', 'Freedom' and of course the single 'Formation', which re-enters my songs chart at #5! It peaked at #1 back in February, and is currently 15th in my 2016 YTD. It's a stunning record, with very personal themes, and is fully deserving of the critical acclaim it has received.
