THEME: Disco
GUESTS: Olly Murs // Nathan Sykes
Olly Murs at his career low and Nathan f***ing Sykes. Can they not afford stars anymore?!
NATHAN BLOODY SYKES AGAIN!??
HOW HAS HE MANAGED TO GET 2 SOLO SLOTS
Disco is a better theme this year than it was a couple of years or so ago.
Olly Murs because he is one of the most successful people from the show. Nathan Sykes because Global Radio (Heart and Capital) won't play anything associated with X Factor if they don't.
f***ING DISCO. That will do no favours for Saara, she'll end up coming across like a 40 year old over from 2005 called Louise who is doing it for her kids and her dead dad who filled out the application for her on his deathbed.
I will eat my hate if 5am don't end up """""""""""""""singing""""""""""""" Get Lucky. And it hardly matters for Emily as she'll just do a maudlin John Lewis version of a Donna Summer banger. I'd rather club classics, and the rule should be that you have to sing it in a clubby arrangement.
Actually doesn't Rapper's Delight sample Chic? I bet Honey G will do that
Lol at Capital FM bribing X Factor to have Nathan Sykes do a guest performance yet again :')
Can't say I'm pleased with the disco theme as it means they'll only be able to do dated songs (well I guess Get Lucky qualifies too so at least there's that option for a recent song)
I mean I guess you could count songs from this decade like Sugar, Blurred Lines and She Came To Give To You as having disco influences and thus counting under this theme? It's much less tenuous than Michael Jackson as a diva or Kriss Kross as a boyband That would be a better way to go but I know that as a theme they take disco to mean Donna Summer, Earth Wind & Fire and Jackson 5 so we probably won't get any of those sort of songs except Get Lucky
I think Emily will actually get 'Get Lucky'! Although I think Ryan could do well with it.
I'd pick;
Saara - Get Lucky (Naughty Boy's arrangement)
5 After Midnight - Treasure
Matt - Take Back The Night
Sam - Billie Jean
Emily - Heart Of Glass
Honey G - Ain't Nobody (LL Cool J)
Ryan - Sugar
I quite hate disco week but it did provide the exact moment when I turned from a casual Diana fan into the ultimate Diana fan:
Maybe Emily will finally have her uptempo moment like Diana had hers after three slow songs in her first three weeks!
Maybe we can stretch the disco theme very far and let Saara perform her very own bollywood disco dancey bop:
Last post in quick succession I promise, will Nicole be giving us THIS at the beginning of next week's show:
(If not I think that could be a good song for Saara)
Does Flashdance What A Feeling class as disco? If so book Emily in for the Drew Ryniewicz/Lauren Platt version right now!
(I'm reading Popjustice and keep finding things post-worthy but THIS IS THE LAST ONE)
Or maybe the Jasmine Thompson (non-Felix Jaehn remix) version of Ain't Nobody *.*
Giorgio Moroder produced it so I'd say yes, it's not classically disco but especially under X Factor categorisation rules I'd say it was fine But Emily would butcher that, her having her uptempo moment would be better but she'll do an Abi Alton this week rather than a Diana I'm sure.
Someone on DS suggested I Feel Love for Saara and I now NEED that to happen. It'd probably end her XF journey but I feel like she'll most probably go next week whatever happens
Saara cant go yet, she is by far the best on the show. She will never win but deserves a final 5 finish at the extreme least.
I have no recollection of making this thread whatsoever?
^ it's been split from the week 5 topic!
Phew. I've not gone totally mad.
So expect a few shots of me in Ryan's VT this week, I just went to his small gig in London and met him, Emily and got served at the bar by Nicole.... he was very good anyway, he sang Stitches, Sorry (Bieber) and Oh Cecilia. Got a photo with him and a few with Emily although none with her actually turned out very well he also followed me on Twitter and gave me a hug
I think 'Stitches', 'Oh Cecilia' and some form of 'Sorry' would really suit Ryan! He's one of the artists being used for his fanbase to sell tour tickets though, so they're not gonna push him any further and will give him songs which he clearly wouldn't record if he was to release an album!
Honey G's odds to win have been slashed after Trumpxit!
Yeah I saw that, 10/1 I think when I looked prior to the election results (well this was after the elimination when the odds usually shift), now she's 6/1 and 3rd behind Emily and Matt. She is a fair way behind Emily though, Emily is a little over 2x more likely to win on the odds. But I'd like Honey G in the final just so that if I do carry on watching the series (which I probably will out of habit) there's a bit of entertainment to enjoy. It's not like she'll win and I'd rather watch her than anyone bar Saara who's left.
Honey G should do Dirtee Disco (the Dizzee Rascal track) although that would be disco house and not disco so probably ineligible.
Hoping someone goes for Disco Love.
Lifeline voted supposedly axed
Bye Ryan.
PLEASE
I guess they're no longer bothered about saving Ryan now that he's made it onto the tour
About time! It was a nice novelty to have once or twice to spice things up a bit but it was a bit of a joke, as we keep saying he could have feasibly received the least amount of "normal" votes and get saved by that vote.
It's still a public vote though with people choosing to save Ryan over the other two in the bottom 3
Yeah but it's targeted towards the app demographic, so is always gonna be biased to that sort of act. Also it can pretty much undermine the main vote in the case I described - if both acts in the sing off have more "proper" votes than the one who's saved. Having yet another component to the public vote just makes it seem like a bit of a farce to protect certain people who might fall into the bottom 3.
I called them axing it this week now we're past the halfway point, I expect Ryan will be gone this week although now it's only gonna be a bottom 2 in the vote, it's not impossible for him to avoid it again considering he was in the top 5 of the vote last week and would need to do that again to survive this week!
It will depend if they want to work with Saara's bounce or try and suppress it and get rid of her. I'm thinking they will work with it enough to try and bounce her above Sam and Ryan, although she really is due an early running order and Sam and Ryan are due late slots. But we've said that for a few weeks now and it hasn't really happened, I suppose they could even justify Saara a pimp slot as she hasn't had one since week 3 if they really wanted to help her.
My gut feeling says this week Sam and Ryan will be bottom 2 with the latter going, but of course Saara getting the Strictly overlap slot would mean curtains for her.
I'm not sure if there will be an overlap this week. Strictly finishes at 810 and there's a guest act opening the show on X Factor this week so if that should shunt the first performance till after Strictly.
They could get away with it then I didn't realise! My instinct says Ryan will be on first anyway, it feels like last week was his moment of redemption so they could get rid of the lifeline vote without being *too* obvious about it and now this week he will be disposed of.
Another very dated theme then, although the Motown week was surprisingly not as misguided as I feared.
Ryan and Matt look LUDICROUS in the intro's (which I guess is the point, but STILL)
Sister Sledge *.*
Ouch! They're still alive
If they've got a new song coming out, why didn't they perform that as well?
I'd estimate about 80% of that audience have no idea who they are
No Lifeline vote then?
Oh noes, Saara on first
Saara, gets the Strictly slot
Saara's on first? Bye Bye then
Honey G in the end!
Why does Saara sound more Finnish when she's putting on the Geordie accent?
Haven't seen all this series but doesn't she always get bottom 2 then get saved by being actually a good singer in comparison?
Strictly is done before Saara. Hopefully people will have swapped over in time to see her.
Wasn't sure about the song but that was actually really good!
Ugh! Really don't like this song. I think it's enough, it's enough for her! Bottom 2 and bye bye tomorrow.
That was pretty good, really suited her actually.
That wasn't QUITE the arrangement I was hoping they'd go for. But it was totally Saara and she was on fire vocally, so if this is to be the end then it's going out on top.
That was her best performance to date, that was good.
Saara was great!
I hate disco but she really shone with that, hope she somehow manages to get the votes despite the awful slot.
a) What have they done to this song?
b) Why does she look like Jess Glynne?
Didn't like that, why'd they slow it down.
Ugh! I hated this atrocity! Sam is not a good singer really.
So they took one of the most iconic disco songs and stripped it of all the disco?
Even though the song was so X Factor-fied she did a great job of it. Would've been nice to have at least half of it in a disco style though, seeing as that is the theme.
Saara totally smashed her performance, hope that's enough for her to be saved this week.
The problem is that she didn't even SING IT WELL. They tried to bring it down to her range and she still couldn't hit thr marks. Surely bottom 2 this week.
I can't see anything being worse than that really
Bet you they already know what they're adding to the Jukebox and are just waiting for someone to suggest it
is that actual Joseph with the long hair in the front of the crowd? *.*
I was waiting for the heavy part of the track but it never came that has to be the worst performance from Sam, I didn't even liked it stripped back.
lol at Ryan singing Oh Cecilia
well this started off okay but now it's awful. hope he leaves tomorrow (he has to now there's no lifeline surely?).
That was a bit boring.
That was a basic performance, rather dull.
That was really good. So, I'm thinking the bottom 2 could be between Sara and Sam.
Simon is trying to save Sam
EXCELLENT performance from Ryan! His confidence has come on in leaps and bounds the past couple of weeks, so pleasing to see.
We spotted the #xfactorlonghairdontcare moments in that.
If anyone wants an autograph, hit me up, they'll be £10 xx
That was better than I had expected, buy only becsuse he's been so crap that the bar is very low. Sounds like bottom 2 to me.though.
Did anyone else get that M&S advert in the break? That was a bit pointless
I think Saara has done enough to beat Sam and Ryan, as Martyn says she started performing after ten past so she should have picked up the Strictly watchers in time.... I hope! She was absolutely incredible, exactly the performance she needed - still very Saara but not over the top.
Ugh, are this lot really still here.
Well these are horrendous but they'll probably still make it through
Lol this is SO cheap and karaoke
The first part was terrible, at least it did pick up when Earth, Wind & Fire kicked in.
The fact they were 2nd best so far is terrifying tho, can we just skip to Honey G?
Me: That high pitched bit is actually alright!
Me: *looks up*
Me: Oh wait that's a backing choir
I disagree with everyone in here because I think they did their job really well.
They proved that last week was just a BLIP and not the new normal for 5AM
I found it very karaoke in places, I can't see the fussed over their performance, pretty much basic.
5AM were fun, well suited to the theme but the vocals were very ropey
Matt is very good but the insistent long high note in every performance is getting a bit annoying...
I did zone out a little for that one
That song was ao flat, bland and boring. It felt like any random karaoke/session singer doing it. Matt doesnt have the most personality to begin with but that really didn't do anything to help him.
I have to agree with Simon, the first part didn't sound too great, but got better inside the studio.
Oh wow this is BAAAAAD
This is about as far away from Disco as you can get.
And how paper-thin is her voice? Can barely hear her...
Her vocals were PISS WEAK. I could barely hear her for most of it.
was there a sound issue there or was her voice really that weak?
Was really disappointed by that unfortunately...
Boring. Vocals and performance both poor
That was a dull squib, and another performance on a box this time
Now I'm leaning towards Ryan and Emily bottom 2
Emily agreeing
Shame for Emily, she got really drowned out by the backing vocals there
Honey G singing a ballad *.*
Queen G now!
I knew Honey would do some N trance!
Wow, talk about stealing the show. DISCO G!!!
You know the competition's messed up when Honey G is actually better than half the serious acts...
I try to like Honey G. I just can't
Thar was so repetitive in places, I really didn't like it.
That didn't really work for me, it was a bit messy and didn't have much energy.
Lets be honest, there was no highlight tonight. Dull theme.
She would have been better if she did YMCA
I was so certain she was going to D.I.S.C.O by replacing it with H.O.N.E.Y
Saara, 5AM + Honey stole the show
I actually really liked Ryan tonight.
The two weakest were VERY clearly Sam + Emily. I'm sure Emily won't be anywhere near the bottom two, though
I think the bottom two is between Sam, Saara and Ryan, the latter two really shouldn't be there but are bound to struggle Emily was very weak sadly but I expect she won't fall any further than 4th in the vote.
I think Saara was the strongest by miles tonight, probably followed by Matt but his performances are becoming very predictable.
Emily's performance was really bad this week. She just seems to have no power to her voice. I'm still waiting for Sam to have her moment too. She's got a powerful voice but they keep getting her to sing stuff that doesn't quite click. I think she'd be lucky to survive the next couple of weeks. I can't see Ryan lasting much longer in the competition either.
I really hope Saara isn't in the bottom two this week, because she really doesn't deserve to be there based on talent/stage presence/having the "x factor".
Quite a poor show this week! I think it was a theme - it just felt really boring.
I'm hopeful of a Ryan v Emily bottom two this week. Emily was horrendous, by far the worst of the night.
Saara stole the show for me tonight! And not just because of that very Gaga-esque mirrored dress *.* She was truly the most exciting for me, even Honey G who I'm usually behind wasn't up to her usual entertaining standard. Sam and Emily (WTF was THAT?!) should really be bottom two based on tonight, but it will most likely be a combo of two of Saara/Sam/Ryan. It would be a shame if Sam stayed over those two as Saara is the most vocally talented and Ryan has improved a lot these past couple of weeks, while Sam is constantly underwhelming.
I have no words for Emily... that was just absolutely horrific If there's any justice she'd be bottom 2 but of course she won't.
Having quickly YouTube the performances this was a very weak show, only Saara really impressed me. Matt was competent but meh as always and Honey G was fun enough. Sam wasn't that bad, vocally less room to mess up than usual but she was just dull.
Sam is currently the favourite for the next elimination on William Hill so bare that in mind tonight.
I still think it will be Ryan, I can't see the judges choosing him over Sam to stay in a sing off. Unless he's not even bottom 2 of course
There was only one highlight last night. Saara absolutely scalped everyone. In terms of vocal talent and performance ability, she's head and shoulders above everyone. That song is a beast, but she barely even had to try. She even threw in a key change. It was immense.
Sam, Ryan and Emily are three of the worst contestants that have ever got this far in my opinion. They're barely capable of carrying a tune between them. Emily's vocal is so thin it's practically non-existent and Sam's tone is so unpleasant to my ears. Ryan's a weak singer too, but there's just something about his demeanor and personality that I find really off-putting.
5 After Midnight weren't dreadful, but seriously how loud were the backing vocals? They barely had to sing anything when it came to the choruses and they certainly weren't singing the high chorus in September. Groups shouldn't be allowed backing vocals. That's a total cop-out.
Matt was fine, but unremarkable. His voice can be fantastic, but he has wavering control and can be really sharp at times. He's just....there, but isn't exciting at all.
As for Honey G, I've no words. Everything she does just screams PARODY!! But the scary thing is, I can't see past her winning at this stage.
Matt is obviously gay though.
If I use my odds strategy that has worked for the last couple of weeks, the bottom 2 could be Sam and Emily. Emily is only 4th favourite to be bottom two, but she is the only one whose odds are shortening along with Sam. For the last few weeks it hasn't been the 2/3 favourites in the bottom 2/3 but rather the 2/3 whose odds were shortening most into the results show, so we'll see if that happens yet again.
^ that's a very interesting strategy and I'm really leaning towards that happening now actually! I haven't seen any praise for Emily's performance at all, while Ryan and Saara are generally getting better reactions. Still expecting Sam vs Ryan though, the pessimist inside of me
I hope it is Emily V Ryan just see how the fake couple cope in the sing off against each other.
I'm sure the producers would LOVE that, but Sam is surely going to get in the way. If Sam and Saara ended up bottom 2, I wouldn't be surprised to see a Ryan v Emily bottom 2 engineered to happen next week but I *think* Saara should bounce out (if she doesn't it is a travesty!).
I think Saara is probably safe enough because Ryan and Sam were worse. Emily was too, but I think shes safe enough sadly.
British sensation Nathan Sykes
I hope the bottom 2 is between Emily x Ryan or Emily x Sam.
Hope it's Ryan or Emily leaving myself.
Saara singing nearly half of the group song *.*
I imagine that little voting news means Emily isn't in trouble as I doubt Saara or Ryan for that matter will be *significantly* above 3 others.
I'm really feeling Sam could go tonight, I just hope she is safe, as I found Ryan was awful out of the lot. Emily's performance was also very poor.
Using Rise Up again?
Can never underestimate the Scottish voting public tho, that's the reason Nicholas McDonald mystifyingly got voted all the way to the final.
Nathan looks like an extra from Grease: The Musical. Has the stage presence to match too
God this is awful, Famous is such a bland track
I'm hearing Unchained Melody in this Nathan Sykes song, sounding quite good actually, certainly a lot better than the track he performed last series.
This is so shit. We get it you can sing, no need for. 4 minute vocal exercise on stage.
That was horrendous.
It wasn't that bad imo.
I'm nervous for poor Saara, best of the night yet the death slot could seal it for her.
Interesting that the top 2 this week haven't been top before... maybe Honey G was smashing it before this week?
All these voting stats! A top 2 that have never been there before? Well Matt and Emily surely have been - Sam and Ryan were nowhere near good enough to be top 2 so surely the top 2 is either 5AM, Honey or Saara - I'd guess the former two which would be very odd and worrying.
That Waitrose TV advert best thing ever
YES!!!
Yes Saara, maybe she could potentially Samantha Jade this contest?
Yaas yaas yaas yaas yaas f***ing yaas
YASSSSS SAARA!!!!!
Her reaction though!!
I really hope Ryan goes through here!
Lol you TEASES
TALENT ALWAYS WINS!!! (well every couple of weeks or so)
Shoot the messenger
Maybe when they said there were 2 new leaders one could be her? Seems to be gaining in popularity very quickly, mind you that fact could be completely made up to stir up the interest.
I think Emily will go through of the 3 remaining.
What the hell is this shit?
Omg the child judges!!
Saara and 5AM for top 2 I think!
I'm still unsure if I like this Olly Murs song. I'm definitely not liking this performance much tho.
What a bore @ Olly
That was a yawnfest.
The Sharon child was the best
Wow this Olly Murs song is bland as they come one of his worst singles to date I think.
Another ad break?!
That song was Olly by numbers. Just a shame he's yet to cracking higher than a 5/10
Would prefer Sam staying but I think her days are numbered now anyway.
How predictable!
No surprise there then, could go either way, both should go this week/next week anyway so don't really care
Only just noticed Sam's last name sounds a bit like a posh toilet.
This is painful.
Oh poor Sam
This is awful!
Oh no please not to an Oasis song
Sam was AWFUL how the hell has she lasted this long ?
Can we send both home right now.
Possibly the worst sing off I've ever seen on this show.
Ryan is better than Sam tonight.
Sam edged that I think, but literally could go either way
oh god this is awful, Sam's performance was a hell lot better
I could not care less.
Guess this is going to tiebreak then.
I'm not even a fan of Ryan in the slightest but he was much better than Sam in the sing off !
Just send them BOTH hone and give Saara another week
Ryan's singoff was marginally better than Sam's so her to go please
Deadlock Sharon please
LMAO SHARON
Lol deadlock that's what I meant.
No surprises there.
Lol
LOL I think Sharon meant to save Sam
Sharon said the wrong person and now Sam has left because of it
Err did she just say "Sending him home as he's been in the bottom 3 so many times... Sam!" :S
Oh well, good riddance Sam anyway
Still that should have bought Saara another week because a bottom two of her and Ryan really should only go one way
Sharon is such a troll! Oh well Ryan is never a contender, he's deadwood so hopefully it'll make Queen Saara safe for another week
They're both deadwood, it really didn't matter either way.
She had potential though, when Ryan has been poor past weeks. In my opinion wrong person went.
The producers whispered to Sharon to send Sam home as they knew the result & they want this Emily vs Ryan sing-off to happen
Tbh they were both crap so it didn't really matter although Ryan was better in the sing off imo .
YAAAAAY RYAN!!! Snatch that top half placing *.*
Thanks goodness Sam has gone. I didn't watch until the live shows but Jesus how did she make it this far? Just a terrible tone to her voice. Painful. Ryan was ok in the sing off, although the song was too big for him.
Saara by a country mile best act left.
Really low standard overall this year.
I think its heading towards a Matt, 5AM and Honey G final, with a Matt win, I think Emily will just miss the final 3.
I guess we can safely say that Ryan WILL be going home next week.
I don't think Sam was THAT bad in the sing off, she is like a foghorn sometimes though and as I've said many times the way she isn't really improving shows that she needs a LOT more work. She should have entered in a couple of years but oh well. I feel like they are really pushing for a Ryan and Emily bottom 2, which could easily happen next week if she doesn't step up! Ryan's sing off was awful, but I knew he'd stay as soon as the bottom 2 was those two.
Also at the "top 2 have never been the top 2 before" - I missed the first bit of results and only just saw on DS. I think it could well have been Saara, on a very lacklustre night she absolutely smashed it and was undeniably the best by far. I think maybe 5am too, but I wouldn't be surprised if they won the vote last week tbh.
I think it was probably Saara and Honey G tbh.
Did Honey G let slip that she's already got her song lined up for next week, even though the theme has allegedly only just been picked "at random" on the wheel of fortune? Oops
I would think Honey G has a song picked for every theme as her choices are extremely limited.
So happy Saara is still in, she was yet again brilliant this week. I will be shocked if Ryan doesnt go home next week.
I wonder if Saara is doing a Ruth Lorenzo/ Alexandra Burke?
Ohhhh the Fix Factor strikes 2ce in one neet
Well they know the themes already as it's jukebox so they could think about songs in their rooms? no?
THAT RYAN DRAG ON X FACTOR IM FUVKING SCREAMING
I feel if Rise Up was going to be the winners single, that they will push Matt and Saara.
It certainly showed that when the group performance was actually one X Factor wanted to do really well, Saara was given by far the most in the song - the producers know that she is certainly the most reliable and talented singer.
Next week will be very interesting. There is so many massive movie ballads that Saara could really have a moment with. I'm even thinking she could have the very overused "I Will Always Love You" as she could have a Leona moment there and with a pimp slot she'd be sailing through. Saara is a big Celine Dion fan so "My Heart Will Go On" isn't out of the question either. But if the producers decide to go back to more gimmicks and uptempos that don't show her vocals then that suggests they don't want her challenging the Plan A quartet of Matt/Emily/5AM/Honey.
I think Saara's peak will be 5th (very nicely bringing an end to all of the Ruth Lorenzo parallels), she'll easily knock out Ryan in a sing-off if it comes to it but I'm struggling to see them getting rid of any of that quartet in favour of her.
I JUST NEED SAARA TO DO WUTHERING HEIGHTS AT SOME POINT!!
(Although doing I Will Always Love You and then this for 80s week the week after might see her become way too much of a force in the vote for the producers' liking!)
EDIT: Oh apparently Wuthering Heights was 1978 so that's out the window, my dad told me it was 80s!!
with ryan STANDING RIGHT THERE
Yeah I'd love Saara in the final but I can't see her denting what's been the obvious final 4 for a few weeks now. I mean Emily might come 4th or 5th and push Saara up a place I guess if she carries on being this shit!! I definitely think Matt, Honey G and 5am will be the final 3 with Saara and Emily fighting for 4th. If they do their usual sing-offs until the final maybe Saara can do it as she can outsing any of the others objectively really, but of course with the likes of 4OD and Ryan progressing from sing-offs that doesn't always matter I think once Ryan is gone Emily will fall out of favour from the golden 4 as she won't have her little romance arc, and that's when she might slip below Saara.
Saara was for sure the new top 2. Second one might be 5AM and we had Matt vs Emily the whole show.
I would be very pleased with Saara in top 4 if it comes to that, here for Misha B finish (With her kicking Janet Emily out)
Let it be said that the gig was at very short notice :')
Catching up with this now, I liked Nathan's performance! Olly has a really average song but performed it pretty well, the child judges were a great touch
EDIT: Oh and the sing-off shouldn't have had any doubt lol, Ryan walked it.
more like broken leg limped it because Sam was f***ing abhorrent.
Well she was but Ryan was still great x
Emily might have been in the bottom two with Sam if the lifeline vote wasn't scrapped
