It's a cruel summer. Joined: 26 May 2014 Posts: 35,256 User: 20,947	Over the many years of Oscars (nearly 90!), many terrific films have been snubbed and some have gone under the radar while some snubs generate massive publicity (see this years #OscarsSoWhite). So which Oscar snubs have got you annoyed and which movies do you wish got nominated or received more nominations?

Joined: 26 May 2014 Posts: 35,256 User: 20,947	Off the top of my head, I'd say the above 5 are the ones I'm still gutted got snubbed Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind: The first of two 2004 movies is Michel Gondry's original and imaginative Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind which is such a beautiful drama that really deserved more attention at the Oscars, especially considering it did pretty well at the precursors to the Oscars! The film should have easily have had a spot in Best Picture, and Jim Carrey was robbed of a Best Actor nom for possibly the best piece of work he ever done. Thank gosh Kate Winslet and the Script (the latter of which won) got Oscar nominations! Garden State: One of my favourite movies of all time so shame this didn't really get anywhere bar the smaller critics awards. Zach Braff and in particular Natalie Portman were excellent and I really think they deserved more Awards attention for their performances and the script was beautiful and really nice and would have also made a nice Oscar nomination! Inside Llewyn Davis: Was this snubbed completely? I think it was or was just like up for 1 really small category Which is a massive shame considering what a great movie it was with a fantastic script and direction from The Coen Brothers and good performances all round. The main snub here though was for Oscar Isaac who should have been a shoo in nomination for his performance as the title character but somehow missed. Joy: It's a shame this is the film that becomes the first David O'Russell movie in ages to not do well in Awards Season. And I don't really get why it is so hated when it is better than American Hustle and on par/possibly even better than Silver Linings Playbook. Jennifer Lawrence was terrific and despite her getting in, I really think she would have missed out if it hadn't been for all the category fraud this year. The script once again is great, the ensemble is fantastic and I think this would have made a worthy Best Picture nominee. Lee Daniel's The Butler: This one hurts the most. How this masterpiece of a movie was snubbed completely. This was an eye-opening, inspirational and beautiful movie with absolute killer performances and one of the most interesting movies of the last few years. I wish David Oyelewo and Forest Whittaker got more attention for their performances, both were terrific! However the main snub here was for Oprah's return to movies with a passionate and beautiful performance getting nowhere at the Oscars in the supporting actress category, after doing very well in all the other awards leading up to the Oscars This snub still hurts and I really think she should have been at least nominated! What is even worse is that this film got 0 nominations while piles of crap like Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa became an Oscar nominated film the same year (I might do a Worst Movies countdown if anyone is interested and that will be very high!).

BuzzJack Legend Joined: 11 October 2013 Posts: 31,025 User: 19,931	Melencholia. Even if you didn't like the film as a whole, the cinematography category is made for films like this and Kirsten Dunst's performance/depiction of depression was nothing short of perfection.

Both really under appreciated, although GS is definitely much more of an indie film and for some reason they seem to nearly always be snubbed. It's a shame because the smaller indie films are seriously beautiful at times! However, 'Joy' I definitely see why it was snubbed in the Best Picture category because barring the performances (which are fantastic) there wasn't really much else to it, for me (and I adore 'Silver Linings...'!) I still haven't seen 'Eternal Sunshine' or 'The Butler' so I can't comment on those. I haven't seen it, but I'm surprised 'Suffragettes' didn't get any sort of recognition/notice (but if I'd seen it, maybe I wouldn't be surprised?). The story and premise of the film screams "awards hype" to me. Surely Best Director if nothing else? But I am still really bitter about Jacob Tremblay not even getting ANY sort of Oscar nomination this year tbh.

Similarly, The Danish Girl really deserved noms for the film itself aside from the acting/costumes etc, it was one of my favourite dramas, really important story and really entertaining too.

Raining Shitter Joined: 9 March 2008 Posts: 63,090 User: 5,572	I might be biased, but I wish Lila & Eve got some buzz and noms about it. Viola and Jennife rboth gave such strong performances and the film was amazingly well scripted and shot.
