Yesterday marked 10 years since 'I Am... Sasha Fierce' was first released, the album that changed Beyoncé from a former girl group popstar to an international artist and arguably the world's biggest superstar. The era spawned her most famous music video for "Single Ladies" and of course the iconic alter ego Sasha Fierce. Nine singles/music videos were released from the album and later packaged together for her 'Above and Beyoncé' anthology album. The album won six Grammys at the 2010 ceremony, setting a record for the most awards won in one night by a female artist, which has still only once been matched by Adele in 2012 with the '21' album. The album has been certified 3x Platinum in the UK, selling over 1 million copies and 5x Platinum in the US, her third consecutive #1 album there. "If I Were a Boy" became Beyoncé's fourth UK #1 single and "Single Ladies" was her fifth US #1 single. Tracklist: I Am... 1. If I Were a Boy 2. Halo 3. Disappear 4. Broken-Hearted Girl 5. Ave Maria 6. Smash Into You 7. Satellites 8. That's Why You're Beautiful 9. Save the Hero Sasha Fierce 1. Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) 2. Radio 3. Diva 4. Sweet Dreams 5. Video Phone 6. Hello 7. Ego 8. Scared of Lonely 9. Why Don't You Love Me? What are your thoughts on the album now? Which side ('I Am' / 'Sasha Fierce') do you prefer? |

There's really no denying that this album is a classic and Beyoncé wouldn't be the artist that she is today without it. "If I Were a Boy", "Single Ladies", "Halo", "Sweet Dreams", "Diva", "Ego", "Video Phone" and "Why Don't You Love Me?" are all classics, whether you like them or not. I also loved the concept for the music videos this era, "Single Ladies" of course being iconic but Bey's looks in "If I Were a Boy" and "Halo" were gorg too.
Overall, I probably prefer the 'Sasha Fierce' disc, but only just. "Smash Into You" and "Save the Hero" are both gorgeous from 'I Am...' but I can live without "Disappear" and "Satellites". "Radio", "Hello" and "Scared of Lonely" on the other hand are all essential Beyoncé tracks, as much as the singles in my opinion. |

I prefer the Sasha Fierce side of the record because it has "Radio" "Diva" "Sweet Dreams" "Ego" and "Why Don't You Love Me" all on this side. You can tell how much impactful this was for her and tbh It felt like Beyonce start to really try new things in terms of album campaign, for example, the double album with each part representing something different.
Can't believe it is 10 years old |

I remember getting this album on Christmas 2008 and being obsessed. I'd choose Sasha Fierce over I Am... solely because of the Sweet Dreams, Scared Of Lonely, Why Don't You Love Me? holy trinity. That said, If I Were A Boy and Broken Hearted Girl are two of the whole project's standouts. The era without question elevated Beyonce into new-found territory - with the SL video and XF in the UK - with both IIWAB and the album repeaking weeks after their debuts. If I remember right, the single debuted at #2 weeks before it reached the top and IASF debuted and peaked at #10 originally!!
