A year ago Mollie had just announced the release of her next single Hair Down and was preparing for it's release, having already shot the music video.
Looking back one year on, how has the song held up for you? Do you still like or dislike it? Do you still listen to it regularly? Discuss and post below. |

Just reading back through some of the initial reactions and comments:
Sounds very Eurovision 2007. Those horns are giving me That's My Girl teas and this is indeed reminiscent of the Spice Girls or even Girls Aloud. Sounds like a bop (and dare I say a smash) and the video looks promising as well! Less than 24 hours now. The clip looked fun, she is giving the MOVES! The song, I think I like it, but I don't know if it's going to do anything. so bland Her voice doesn't sound strong on the chorus, I was hoping she would have pulled something out of the bag

It sounds pretty much what I expected from a Mollie banger, a diet bop but nothing it seems like I'll go mad over, but I'll wait for the full song. The "na na na na na na na" sounded better on its own than this clip with the chorus too The full song is out there (search her name on Twitter) and it's really really good on first listen. This sounds like a cross between Something New and Sexy! No No No with some 2014 horns thrown into the mix, but all for the good of it! Not a hit though, Back to You had more chart potential. It's a shame they farted out all of Back to You's promo within a matter of hours! Absolutely love it! Just a pure pop song You can just feel the GA influence - bravo Mollie!!!! Iconic. Sure to be number 1 in my head.

I *really* want to like it, but I don't think I can :/ The "na na na na na na" parts are diabolical. It's cool, Xenomania must be saving the actual quality for Queen Nuhdeen. This is a raunchy bop *.* it's nothing groundbreaking and I doubt it'll do much better than 'Back To You' apart from maybe a higher peak due to the higher streaming ratio/ACR since that was released but it's all I wanted from her tbh! NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA NA This is EXACTLY what I wanted from her *.* I really don't think anything she releases will be a hit at this point so she might as well go ALL OUT and give us a banger like this *.* It's such a BOP but the video looks awkward.
I hope it out peaks Back to You on iTunes at least because it's so much better. |

I still love it a year on. Can't even believe it's been a year!
I always thought Mollie would make an amazing solo star but for whatever reason (possibly it not being the early 00s anymore, where she would have made it to an album at least) it wasn't meant to be. Truth is nowadays being out and out pop doesn't get you the places it used to. Everything's too serious. |

Na na na na na na na na na 💃
Na na na na na na na na na 💃 Na na na na na na na na na 💃 Na na na na na na na na na 💃 I find Hair Down quite endearing for how straight out of 2004 the song and video are, but the above hook got a little too annoying with repeated listens... so it burned out for me pretty quickly at the time. I feel like she ideally needed to find a middle ground between the relative seriousness of Back to You and the sheer wackiness of Hair Down, to arrive at a sound that was more authentically her. |

I still give it occasional spins as a go-to pure pop song, although the "na na na" does get a bit much sometimes.

Forever bitter that ‘Back To You’ got no promotion, no airplay and no Spotify promotion. I honestly still think it could have been a long running top twenty hit, it’s still a beautiful song!
‘Hair Down’ is a an album track bop, I do hope we get some Mollie music in the future, she’s got a lot more exposure now so I wonder if she released a single if radio one would playlist it? |

Me singing along to Hair Down like:
I tired of it quickly at the time but I enjoy it whenever I go back to it now. I was right a year ago - anything she did was never gonna be a hit so I'm glad she gave us an anthem! |

I still go back to Back To You very often, but I wouldn't say Hair Down is the same case, as much as it would have been a great track on her album and deserved atleast a top 30 debut. Should have stuck with Good Girl.

I'm not surprised it didn't chart but I'm glad she released it as it stood out when pop was so damn blandd. Don't listen to it much though |

The one thing I love is that they released an acoustic version as if the selling point of the song is the lyrics which you need to pay closer attention to.

One thing I will add with a year's distance was that I don't know how she got through the single campaign (which as it turned out lasted a week, if that) without performing it live somewhere once. I mean for comparison Nadine Coyle didn't exactly do much better with 'Go To Work' which came out a week later, and yet she performed it several times on TV. I know Mollie had just started Strictly rehearsals this time last year but she could have still fitted it in.

The one thing I love is that they released an acoustic version as if the selling point of the song is the lyrics which you need to pay closer attention to. Gotta let my hair down Gotta let my hair down Gotta let my hair down [Chorus] Gotta let my hair down, I just wanna dance now Gotta let my hair down, I just wanna dance Don't call, I'm not home Somebody's got to run the show Caller busy tone, I'll be the one to let you know [Verse 1] I'm pleased to meet your barbershop quartet But that means you obviously ain't getting any sex You need to brush up on your harmony The way you're crooning doesn't work for me [Pre-Chorus 1] If you like me now, I know that you wanna get again 'Cause you get around, oh no Like me now, how you wanna get on down 'Cause you get me, oh no no no Like me now, how'd you like me now? Now I'm back, now I'm back na-na-na-na How'd you like me now? I bet you love me now [Chorus] Gotta let my hair down, I just wanna dance now Gotta let my hair down, I just wanna dance Don't call, I'm not home Somebody's got to run the show Caller busy tone, I'll be the one to let you know [Verse 2] I'm living life as if it's heaven sent You never thought I'd have a striker sitting on the bench A substitution in the second half With extra time, I'm taking the last laugh [Pre-Chorus 2] How'd you like me now? You know that I'm gonna win again Can't be broken down, oh no Like me now, ready for another round Think you got me, oh no no no Like me now, how'd you like me now? Now I'm back, now I'm back na-na-na-na How'd you like me now? I bet you love me now [Chorus] Gotta let my hair down, I just wanna dance now Gotta let my hair down, I just wanna dance Don't call, I'm not home Somebody's got to run the show Caller busy tone, I'll be the one to let you know Gotta let my hair down, I just wanna dance now Gotta let my hair down, I just wanna dance Don't call, I'm not home Somebody's got to run the show Caller busy tone, I'll be the one to let you know |
