Characters






Items

Boomerang Flower - Can be thrown up to three times, hitting racers forward and when it returns.

Piranha Plant Pot - Automatically chomps on obstacles and other racers, giving a short speed boost for each nibble.

Super Horn - Emits a radial shockwave, destroying all obstacles and items, and hitting racers.

Crazy 8 - Generates 8 items


Plus all the old ones and the return of COINS!!

It's single-handedly made the console a must have for me.

I'd have been buying it for 'Smash Bros' anyway whenever that comes, but this is also essential. The clips of each stage just look breathtaking and it looks set to be a huge step-up from 7!!

I shall have to motivate myself to buy a Wii U then clearly because this looks perfect (considering aside from TBS games Mario Kart is the only game I'll be caught playing now)

Ooh, I didn't even notice the levels! Sunshine Airport is totally going to be my new fave, I can tell. Daisy Cruiser and Coconut Mall have been my favourite from the last 2 main console variants and that seems to be the successor to those, at least from the name/idea.

Also yay at Wario Stadium being back, always loved that one too and also I hope they have the STAGE idea for Rainbow Road like they do on the 3DS. It's much more fun than going over the same hideous course thrice.

Snowboard Cross is one of my favourites on the Wii. It's just so much fun to thunder down the snow covered slopes with little chance of falling off or getting pushed off. Even more fun that Lee hates it for some reason.

And whoever invented Sherbet Land needs to be IMPALED. Almost single-handedly ruins Mario Kart Wii and probably Mario Kart 64 as well though I've never played it. (DK's Snowboard Cross isn't that bad though, don't get the hate) ~

I haven't played on this for AGES (in fact now I look at the TV the Wii isn't even there any longer, when did that go then?!!!) but from what I remember my favourites were:

Mushroom Gauge

Bowser's Castle (both versions)

In fact there was absolutely loads I loved now I think about it... the only ones I didn't really enjoy were:

The cars that appear out of nowhere aside, it's just a bit short and lacking any exciting jumps. It is far too easy to make an awful cock-up though, true.

I don't mind the majority of the courses either, most of those that I've put on there are either because they're too easy/dull as courses or they have an element that'll get me knocked out of contention pretty easily.

Just thought I'd let you guys know who want the game but may not have pre-ordered it yet (and already have the console), GAME has it for pre-order for £39.99 (same as Amazon) but you get an exclusive new edition Wii Wheel (worth £10) for free as well as a free GAMEWare accessory (worth up to £5). One of their Mario Kart 8 pre-order bundles have already sold out so I'm not sure how long it will remain available but it's a great deal if you want the game!

When you order Mario Kart 8 too by the way, you apparently get a code allowing you to download a Wii U game for free from the online shop which is fantastic!

It sounds like it's too punishing for the winner again and that the tracks are 'samey'. I was hoping they'd improve on those aspects from the alst game (which was still brilliant, made my 2010 summer along with FFXIII and friends haha)

Too punishing? I do think the DEMON BLUE SHELL is awful, if that's what you mean, but then half the fun is being f***ed over inches from the finish line.

And I think they do a great job of coming up with new and inventive track ideas with each new iteration of the game.

I'm kinda turning off Mario Kart.

The new racers don't excite me at all, it just seems like more of the same.

I had been thinking about getting the Wii U bundle with it (you get another free game if you register Mario Kart 8 online) but I'm not so sure anymore. I'll probably just wait for Smash Bros.

Just a few days left until release day now, very excited for this! I'm finally going to have a new Mario Kart game, 6 years after the last one was released that I had the console for (the Wii version). I can't believe the Wii version was released 6 years ago, it still feels quite new considering I still play it regularly!

I searched EVERYWHERE for this after work and eventually found it in Toys R Us! Seems to be a free game download deal going on when you register it on Club Nintendo too, which is rather nice!

I've only had time to play about 10 tracks but they're all very *.* The revamps of some of the older tracks are spectacular and the new tracks that I've played defy belief. The best graphics and most smooth gameplay I've seen on the Wii U yet.

well, except Electrodome which I can tell is going to be the BIG FAVE that I LOATHE this time round. Already loving Mount Wario, Sunshine Airport, Cloudtop Cruise, Rainbow Road (!!!!) and Toad Harbour though.

The revamps are largely amazing too, though I do feel a tad cheated by having THREE 3DS courses which aren't all that different and are far from the best MK7 has to offer.

My experience of this game so far is a single set of 4 races with Bal and Jay (going straight into online before doing any practice on single player yus, I still managed to win one race though Lol). It feels very DIFFERENT, in particular the drifting sensitivity seems to have been altered so I kept crashing on corners (or I might have just picked a very different kart or something, I have no idea what the different wheels do for example ~), but I'm sure I'll get used to it soon. The graphics are glorious. *.*

(should we all add each other as friends? my Nintendo Network ID is Brayden_Smith (v inventive) if anyone wants to add me *gets no requests*)

This very much needs to be arranged!

I have to say, as gorgeous as the game is visually, it does feel considerably easier than the Wii version and this makes some of the courses seem quite dull. Mario Kart Wii was never short of dramatic/annoying/amusing moments even during the basic courses, whereas Mario Kart 8 feels rather pleasant by comparison.

It’s been a LONG grind but I’ve finally achieved a 3 Star Trophy on all maps in 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, and Mirror! 200cc is next up but it’ll be a slog. You do not want to know how many times I was soo close to winning the Lightning Cup but got red/blue shelled in the last lap of Rainbow Road.

It may be worth noting that:
- Sky-High Sundae will appear in Mario Kart Tour at some point as stated in the trailer.
- Kalimari Desert looks to be lifted from Mario Kart Tour as it appears part of the race will take place in the train tunnel.

Love the Yoshi’s Island track so much, it’s my favourite of the whole game possibly, seeing some of those characters again, and the music <3 makes me yearn for a full 3D Yoshi’s Island game.

The Bangkok track is pretty cool too, on the different levels.

Been playing this wave a bit since Thursday.

Yoshi’s Island, Riverside Park and Waluigi Stadium are the clear standouts for me.

Never got the DK Snowboard Cross love. Always been an average track for me.

I suspect the Switch successor is imminent and will launch with a new Mario Kart game...or one will follow soon after.

Mario Kart 8 is brilliant, and the additions have been great, but the base Wii U game is now nearly a decade old!

The new tracks in this wave are a mixed bag, but I love DK Mountain (always have done <3), the revamp of Bowser's Castle 3 from the SNES, and Madrid Drive.

Happy for them to move onto a new game full of new tracks soon though.

Wave 6 is very strong for me.

DK Mountain, Bowsers Castle 3 Madrid Drive and even Piranha Plant Cove my early favourites.

Also love the addition of Diddy Kong he’s my go to. Funky Kong and Pauline also welcome inclusions. Only nitpick with the characters is Peachette. Could’ve easily replaced her with Dixie Kong, Hammer Bro or Poochy.

Only other small complaint I have is that there is too many Mario Kart Wii tracks in the Booster Course Pass. I’d easily swap 2-3 of them out for tracks from other games.
