Hopefully Demi can get towards the top 20 if it does get released on iTunes, rumours are it is only going to be a streaming exclusive for the time being due to a promotional banner that Island have been using that said "streaming everywhere at midnight". We shall wait and see if it appears on iTunes sometime tomorrow but it is already on Spotify and Apple Music!

Some great 59p additions, Record companies are seeing what benefit a price reduction can have to combat streams.
59p songs -
Calum Scott - Dancing On My Own (Wise to keep this at 59p - Could finally send him Top 10) Dua Lipa - Hotter Than Hell (Was 59p 2 weeks ago - Glad they have done it again, could also send her Top 10 officially) Jonas Blue - Perfect Strangers (Already climbed - Really hope this gets a surge) Sigma/Take That - Cry (Pleased this has remained at 59p and is clocking up some steady sales) Shawn Mendes - Treat You Better (Could kick start this into becoming a hit) Lukas Graham - Mama Said (Would love them to get a 2nd hit) Viola Beach - Boys That Sing (Hopefully will stabilise now and is a good move ahead of the album release)
Posted by: Jonjo Jul 1 2016, 01:22 AM
94. Fifth Harmony - All In My Head (Flex) [feat. Fetty Wap]
Can this hurry and get a move along please? I know it's doing well atm, but it deserves to be so much higher at this point of it's charting life. Summer anthem.

Fergie releasing a song called M.I.L.F seems quite apt really though how she looked in 2006/07 was even more deserving of that title imo. Of course none of those new releases will stop Drake and his millions from being number one in the Official Chart again.

Surprised Robyn's version has had zero impact - Thought it might encourage people to seek out the original. Not too concerned though we have 2 new Robyn mixes that have been released this week.

Looks promising considering its airplay has only just started to pick up in the last few days or so (Heart appear to be on board). Hopefully it doing so well will drive BBC Radio 1/2 + Capital FM to playlist it and give it some spins.

Dancing On My Own isn't top 20 on Spotify so if it is to outpeak Robyn it'll need to sustain its #3 position on iTunes all week. It seems likely that it'll eventually do it though, it's already outlasted her version in top 40 weeks.

I can see dancing on my own being the new iris or make you feel my love on X factor being played in the background, getting performed constantly and getting boosts every year on the chart

It's going to take a lot more sales for it to make no. 1 as its sales are a lot stronger than its streaming points. It sold 28k in the last frame (total) which might have accounted to around 22k sales and the rest from streaming. Maybe it'll get a boost from somewhere - if he does make #1 he'll be the first Britain's Got Talent act to do so (as far as singles are concerned) which would be nice to see. It'd be nice to see something garnering huge sales too.

It might be tricker for Olly to get a #1 in this day and age - certainly the last one that went to #1 for him was in an era where downloads/sales were much stronger. So he'd need a lot of momentum, with a decent amount of airplay he could get it.
Posted by: ___∆___ Jul 2 2016, 01:22 PM
So pleased to see Adele holding at #2 - Huge fan but was 'meh' about the song becoming a single release however it's steadily grown on me and was definately the right single choice, Streaming seems to be healthy too.

I think Olly will be ok for a while yet as he would have an audience who would stream his singles as well as purchase it. I wouldnt rule him out having another number 1 but i think he has a few hits left in him yet.
I hope the nee album does well for him and i had hoped never been better would have made triple platinum.

2000 chart sales ahead from streams but 3000 sales ahead according to the digital sales data over 24 hrs not including streams or sales from elsewhere
Posted by: Jonjo Jul 3 2016, 01:47 AM
I'm assuming things between 3 & 6 are really close.
Clean Bandit is down to #6 (from #3 - yday) and JT is back up to #3, with Callum and Calvhanna right behind him. Really hope JT can somehow get back up to fighting for a top 3 placing officially!
EDIT: Also great to see Fergie up to #23! Really hope she can hold up and get herself a big hit with this. The video is one of the very best of the year <3

Because this is clearly a more popular song than them? I don't really get the point, clearly the song's been spread via social media and that's how people are aware of it. It had a video before the other week too (just not one from a major label) so no doubt some TV airplay before then also.
Posted by: The Hit Parade Jul 3 2016, 11:05 AM
Actually that wasn't clear, which was why I asked. I use social media but evidently not with the sort of people who are interested in this track.

You'd think but it didn't stop George Sampson!
Even the singers haven't made much impact apart from Susan Boyle. I know Paul Potts had a Number One album but not a single.

I think Calum just appeals to more of the record buying public than the others. Bars and Melody and Gabz debuted high enough (#5 and #6 respectively) but they didn't capture enough of the public's imagination to sustain that.

On the album front, the chart positions (Boyle aside) have been pretty decent with a lot of artists managing top 10 albums. Obviously because of the hype back then, Susan's sales (for her debut album) were huge.
Not many singers have even released singles. I've got more detail here: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=180690&st=0&p=5140956&#entry5140956

As I predicted Calum coming for Drakes weave This is the kind of song that Capital and Heart will start bumming and the fact it's still 59p it could do a Shawn Mendes on us and get to the top, obviously streaming will hammer it but the surge since the video was released and radio play picked up has been huge for a track that didn't look like it would trouble the Top 30 at one point!

Oo that's great news. Heart/Capital are playing it - now just need BBC Radio 1/2. It's certainly been responding very well to its airplay starting to pick up - could very well be the song to topple Drake in a couple weeks time (unless something else of note is being released before then?).

It had a video released a few weeks ago and is now 59p. Airplay has started picking up massively the last week as well with Capital FM/Heart starting to playing among many other stations. It looks like it could challenge for the top spot in a few weeks as its airplay/TV play/streaming continue to rise.

One Dance red and already 2.15% behind number 10, shows how a top 10 exit resulting in no mention on the itunes top songs on the front page can be damaging.

This could be One Dance's last week then incredible achievement nonetheless, a quarter of a year at #1!

Why have the the last few singles from Ariana Grande under performed so much? I thought after Problem she would be one of the next big female singers. Focus and Dangerous woman didnt do very much and Dangerous Woman is the lead single and that didnt even go top 10. Into You sounds like a smash but its only creeping up the chart and probably wont do much either. There seems to be little buzz about her now, compared to when Problem was out, did the donut incident ruin her? Also Break Free, Love Me Harder and One Last Time are very good songs on her last album but they didnt do great either. If someone like Rihanna released these or Into You they would be huge

'Break Free', 'Love Me Harder' and 'One Last Time' all did exceptionally well considering the peaks and are constantly reappearing in the top 1500. Wasn't 'Love Me Harder' a huge streaming hit, too (in fact, I think Ariana in general has good to great streams)? 'Dangerous Woman' I agree under performed at first/as far as peaks are concerned, but the run it's had is fantastic and cannot be looked down or frowned upon. 'Into You' seems like it's going to be a big hit, C-List on Radio 1 has only just started, so airplay will begin to pick up on that and I can see her doing well on streaming with it (as she usually does).
I'm confident 'Into You' can go top 10 (on iTunes at the very least). I think it'll be a grower hit. Maybe something similar to Dua Lipa's 'Hotter Than Hell'?
Posted by: Joe. Jul 4 2016, 09:44 PM

Its sales do include the once ineligible ones now - when the BPI certified it Gold, it had appeared to trickle sell and stream too much than could be possiblesince its last known total/estimate which hadn't included the ineligible sales (same applies to 'Do What U Want'). Basically, at some unknown point, the OCC have changed their rules.

So pleased to see this after it crawled up the charts 48-46-44-38 and stalled at around #25 on iTunes. The record company got the strategy right on this one - Letting streaming build for a few weeks before slapping a 59p price reduction on the song.
Posted by: danG Jul 5 2016, 06:49 AM
yes g'won Jonas Blue!
good to see he won't remain a one-hit wonder, Perfect Strangers is starting to hit me and it definitely deserves to be a top ten.

One Dance has dropped out of the top 10 but it's still selling the same, roughly half of Kungs... it was actually selling lower a few weeks ago and his streaming advantage compensated for it

We will see more and more of the 59p effect as record companies look for different strategies- Dua, Calum and Jonas Blue all achieved a build up in streaming, low/stable chart positions and fan sales then all got a huge 59p boost due to people being familiar with the songs

Very true, I wonder how low it could eventually go...I guess could keep getting lower until we get to a point in time where music is never paid for It's crazy what a 40p difference can do, but mentally you do think its a lot more worth it to buy!

But why? I don't understand. Positions have actually nothing to do with the price tag. Lots of iTunes number 1s that were 59p climbed to number 1 when they were reduced. Actually all I think
On the other hand if a song is already number 1 it has no sense to reduce to 59p. Already the biggest seller and although they might win some more sales but the loss on marge would be bigger.

I also think it makes people impulse buy the songs that they might otherwise have not - And because the 59p price not last for long people tend to get it straight away. I was already streaming Jonas, Dua and Shawn with no intention to purchase but bought them when they went down in price.

Drake's video release will have a negative effect if any at all (if there's any truth to the theory of its Spotify domination being at least partially because it's not on YouTube). Music channels are already playing the song even without an official video. Remember there was no noticeable effect on 'This Is What You Came For' when its video came out.
I quite like the new songs by The Chainsmokers and Jonas Blue ('Perfect Strangers' is certainly far better than the pointless 'Fast Car' cover anyway), nice to see them freshening up the top end of the chart a bit. And good to see Kent Jones cracking the top 10 as well, another 'new Trap Queen' I guess *.*
