Demi Lovato's Stone Cold failed to reach the top 100 in the UK, but is certified silver for 200,000 units.

Are there any other songs which failed to reach top 100 and did even better?

Dwayne Johnson's 'You're Welcome', from the 'Moana' soundtrack, never charted and is platinum. (It peaked at #154 weekly on Spotify.)

That's just one I found from looking at the list of platinum singles - I'd assume there are more, even if a lot of the classics that didn't chart/weren't singles at the time (eg 'Tiny Dancer' and 'Here Comes The Sun') have picked up chart positions in the digital age. A close one is Travis Scott's 2016 song 'goosebumps', which peaked at #90 and is platinum. Another is Eminem's immensely popular 2002 album track 'Till I Collapse' which is platinum, but charted once at #73 in 2009.

Post Malone's 'White Iverson' (his 2015 breakthrough hit in the US) is platinum and never charted, but it spent a while in the Spotify top 100 in late 2017 when he blew up worldwide, so it probably would've charted if not for the 3-track rule.

Ah, I found another genuine one: J. Cole's 'No Role Modelz', a late 2014 album track that became a slow burning smash in the US over 2015-2016. It only spent a couple dotted weeks in the UK Spotify top 200, but it's platinum - leading to an amusing situation where he has 18 UK top 100 hits, and his biggest hit is not among them.

Edit: Arctic Monkeys' 2006 album track 'Mardy Bum' is platinum and has never charted.

Edit #2: Hall & Oates' 'You Make My Dreams' and Oasis' 'Champagne Supernova' are 2 more (both platinum), and Marvin Gaye's 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' is a close call (it got a week at #80 in 2013).

Oh wow at those last 3, I would have imagined all of those were easily Top 10 hits if not higher!

'Champagne Supernova' wasn't released as a single in the UK, presumably because they'd already released 4 top 2 hits from that album. It was their 2nd biggest radio hit in the US, but didn't chart there either because airplay-only songs weren't allowed to chart yet. It did at least chart in Australia but only at #26 tongue.gif

Hall & Oates were never as successful in the UK as in the US, but 'You Make My Dreams' is strange anyway because it was only a #5 hit in the US, sandwiched between several #1s - I don't know what happened over the decades to shift that. I'd never heard of it until I started following Spotify numbers.

The Marvin Gaye version of 'Ain't No Mountain High Enough' was only a #19 hit in the US; the Diana Ross version a few years later was much bigger. But now, the Marvin Gaye version is the biggest song of the 1960s on Spotify and the Diana Ross version may as well be a footnote (it has 6% as many plays).

Mardy Bum was the Arctic Monkeys single we all wanted them to release but they didn’t. Also in 2006, you could only chart if you had a physical copy available.

Wow I am surprised that 'No Role Modelz' is J. Cole's best performing song in the UK as well - I know it's one of the few songs that literally never seems to leave the top 200 on US Spotify but yeah it's never had that presence in the UK, suppose it's still just been consistently racking up medium-low level streams over many years though. I've never heard it

Was a real shame that 'White Iverson' never got its chance to peek through the 3 track limit to get an official chart position in the UK, still among Posty's best songs for me.

Rihanna’s Love On The Brain should be one of the biggest non top 100 tracks of recent times.

Seven songs have been certified Platinum without reaching the Top 100:

Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum
Daryl Hall & John Oates - You Make My Dreams
Dwayne Johnson - You're Welcome
J. Cole - No Role Modelz
Oasis - Champagne Supernova
Post Malone - White Iverson
Queen - We Will Rock You

All but 'We Will Rock You' have been mentioned already. 'You Make My Dreams' went from Gold to Platinum in just 9 months (February 2018 - November 2018) so will easily pass 1m this year, becoming the first non-charting song to do so!

Queen - "We Will Rock You" clearly wins this one - it was never released as a Single back in the day (1977), it was the B Side of "We Are The Champions" but has sold enough in it's own right as it has been used in so many places over the years!

Excuse my ignorance but why has 'You Make My Dreams' sold so well? Of all the ones that have been mentioned it's the least well known to me. Where does it get used?

If we're talking about best known rather than best selling non Top 100 hits I'd say either 'We Will Rock You' or 'Champagne Supernova' would win.

You Make My Dreams comes up in a lot of Spotify playlists. Same with their cover of Jingle Bell Rock. Hall & Oates have much better songs imho

What about December Will be Magic Again by Kate Bush?
How on earth did that not make the top 100 40 years ago??!

We Will Rock You is a bit questionable because it did become #1 single with Five in 2000.

Only went silver but Love Myself by Hailee Steinfeld peaked at #180 - not sure I can think of any more off the top of my head

I think 'Suge' by DaBaby may eventually be another non top 100 hit to go platinum (don't know if it has yet even gone silver but still).

'You Make My Dreams' was one of their worst songs in the period 1980 to 1985 when they finally found some success in the UK. It never charted in 1981, not only on the main UK Top 75 chart but also didn't chart (or at least I can't find it) on the rival Record Business chart which was a top 120 at the time (a top 100 plus 20 Breakers). I can vaguely remember hearing it on Radio 1 back then but it was a long forgotten song even by me by the time it found success in the digital age.

It will be ridiculous that a track that has never made the top 100 is a chart million seller. I thought it was ridiculous when 'The Chain' by Fleetwood Mac passed a million a few weeks ago but at least that song, or at least a part of it, is well known. That track has peaked at number 81 with 5 weeks inside the top 100 over an 8 year period from 2009 to 2017.

Thanks for the list, impressed I found 6/7 of them! I had 'We Will Rock You' in mind as a double A-side.

'You Make My Dreams' has featured in various films and ads according to Wikipedia, for whatever that's worth:
QUOTE
The song was featured in the films The Wedding Singer (1998), Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd (2003), Step Brothers (2008) (500) Days of Summer (2009), Eddie the Eagle (2016), and Ready Player One (2018). In 2012, it appeared in an eHarmony commercial. It appears in a 2017 commercial for Applebee's. The song also appears in Young Sheldon. The song appears in a 2018 commercial for Dick's Sporting Goods, promoting a Father's Day sale[2][3], as well as a 2019 commercial for Google Maps. In addition, the song was used by the Toronto Maple Leafs during their home games in the 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons as the team goal song.[4]

That's a completely separate version with none of its sales included in the Platinum certification for the original.
