Above is a snippet of Jessie J's latest song for the Pitch Perfect 2 Soundtrack called "Flashlight", soon to be released onto digital retailers. I'm expecting everyone to hate it. drama.gif

Actually sounds quite restrained for her. Maybe even I'll be able to get behind it ohmy.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 10th April 2015, 11:05 AM

Smash it Jessie <3 Sounds a bit cliched and predictable, but it's very nice.

Mis read as the sex toy.

Okay, I am loving this so much rn. It is just a massive pop song with gorgeous vocals.

Slay Jessie.

it's another bloody terrible single. soupy as f*** ripping on 'halo' and just so unimportant and insecure. she looks like an off-colour jenny frost in the video.

the perfect film title for her to be providing a soundtrack single :')

Posted by: Lee_J11 25th April 2015, 11:16 AM

Ashamed to say I rather love this ohmy.gif

Posted by: April 25th April 2015, 11:33 AM

Sounds decent on first listen actually!

Posted by: Noahspike 25th April 2015, 11:40 AM

It's pleasant enough and could be much worse as there's a distinct lack of oversinging in parts for a Jessie J song but it's still incredibly generic and nondescript. Watching the video made me wonder if she enjoys and believes in what she does now and actually had me feeling a bit sorry for her unsure.gif! It seems that she/her team are just taking absolutely any opportunity that comes her way to maintain her profile (the Tuc crackers promotional stuff being a prime example) without any concern for quality control or an ounce of artistry to be seen. Her career trajectory kind of fascinates me. laugh.gif

I really like this Jessie's voice sound gorgeous.

Posted by: Jack 25th April 2015, 11:58 AM

What a boring basic song. It won't do anything to help her unless Pitch Perfect 2 is huge.

Posted by: Rabbit Froot 25th April 2015, 12:26 PM

Not really connected to the song but carrying in from what Noah was saying, her career has gone in a strange direction with this third era.

EVERYTHING was put into making 'Bang Bang' a huge success but then there seemed to be no clear idea of what would happen next. It's not even as though you can blame 'Bang Bang' from overshadowing everything else as 'Burnin Up' was announced as the second single and premiered IIRC before 'Bang Bang' was released in the UK. It appears they tried to focus on the US market, and the UK was an afterthought, which is strange seeing as though 'Alive' wasn't even released over there. I mean I'm guessing 'Sweet Talker' was meant to be the next proper single going by Radio 1 but then there was no video and she sang 'Masterpiece' on Graham Norton instead?

It will be interesting to see what happens with her fourth era but I can just see the same happening, a big push for the lead single and not really attempting to push anything else.

Posted by: Davidson 25th April 2015, 02:07 PM

Completely agree. The way the Sweet Talker era was handled post-Bang Bang was awful. Such a shame when it was her best album, material wise.

Posted by: Jonjo 25th April 2015, 09:24 PM

What a gorgeous soundtrack song. wub.gif Her voice sounds amazing! I love it when she reigns it in and doesn't "belt" for no particular reason. 'Pitch Perfect 2' will be huge I reckon, but whether it'll help this song be more than a middling top 30 hit at best, I don't know (I get the feeling something else from the film will completely take off and over shadow it!) but as a song, although I agree that it's quite non-descript and doesn't really bring anything new to the table, I'm still really liking it!

I hope they get things sorted for her 4th era! 'Sweet Talker' definitely was a huge mess despite having enough potential singles from the album.

It's the most listenable thing she's done in ages-so much so I don't even hate it. Although it highlights just how average her voice actually is.

C'mon, sometimes I can't even take the Jessie comments seriously on here. You can criticise Jessie for a lot of things (lack of artistry, annoying personality blah blah blah) but having an average voice just isn't one. No matter what you think of her, the girl can sing and the vocals here are restrained for her as has been previously discussed. If she gave more to the vocals than this then she would be criticised for over-singing and yet when she reigns it back in she gets these kind of comments. She can't win laugh.gif

She can sing but there isn't anything about her that stands out when she isn't shrieking like a banshee. Yes, she's capable but so are loads of other musicians out there. Despite what she tells everyone, her voice just isn't that amazing.

Still a less SCREEEEEECH!!! (OMG SCREEEEEECH!!!!:PUKE1: sick2.gif) voice than Screech even on a bad day.

I really like t song actually ohmy.gif

She's not screeching and it's nice - exactly that - neec.

Posted by: mr_aly 26th April 2015, 01:30 PM

It's just a generic song with a really boring overdone 'empowerment' message.

Posted by: Josh. 29th April 2015, 06:32 AM

Most boring Jessie J song ever? Probably. I'd class myself as a fan of Jessie but this is so bloody broing, she's at her best WHEN she's wailing and this just lacks punch that all her others have. Just because it's an empowerment song doesn't mean it had to be boring, it could have been her next Who You Are sad.gif

Posted by: J▲hq 18th May 2015, 10:26 PM

As unoriginal as it may be, Pitch Perfect has made me completely obsessed with this heart.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 18th May 2015, 10:44 PM

I really am loving it. I'd go as far as to say it's one of her best ballads to date. wub.gif Simple and basic, but SO POWERFUL. <3

Complete turnaround time, it's still not very interesting, especially for a Jessie J ballad but I like it and would love it to be a hit for her!

Hailee Steinfeld sings this a lot better than Jessie in Pitch Perfect 2 but I'll take this as it least we have a full version of the song. Beca's dance remix of Emily's version is f***ing terrible and I'm glad there's no trace of it anywhere.

Posted by: Rabbit Froot 23rd May 2015, 10:07 AM

Apparently this was wrote by Sia and Sam Smith as well as two others. ohmy.gif

Not surprised it initially rose so much on iTunes considering its use in the film.

Posted by: Lee_J11 26th May 2015, 10:37 PM

There seems to be a video of this doing the rounds on Facebook of Jessie singing/wailing this on FaceTime (or something to that effect) with some random fanboy laugh.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 26th May 2015, 10:37 PM

Now top 10 on iTunes (currently at #9!) SMASH IT JESSIE <3

I really need to see her live again wub.gif

Posted by: Josh. 26th May 2015, 10:41 PM

Is it just me or is she definitely saying 'sharted in my eye'?!?

Loving this so much right now, such a beautiful track *.*

He was actually very good. He was a bit monotonous, but he was very good.
