It's gonna be sad to see Robin Schulz/Jasmine Thompson flop sad.gif

Hoping 'Shut Up And Dance' can make the top 10 at least biggrin.gif

Posted by: 'Dan Jun 6 2015, 11:09 PM

was Zedd supposed to release this week then? either I didn't notice it when doing the predicta or he's suddenly pulled the release forward.

Same with Leona Lewis (poor floppy horse)

hopefully Robin Schulz can do kinda well but it'll probably go top 75 officially at best. sad.gif

It was brought forward

I want you to know and fire both to somehow get top 40 please wub.gif

131. WALK THE MOON - Shut Up and Dance
144. Rixton - We All Want the Same Thing
504. DJ Fresh & Adam F - Believer (Radio Edit)
911. Robin Schulz - Sun Goes Down (feat. Jasmine Thompson) [Radio Mix]
1114. Leona Lewis - Fire Under My Feet
1346. Zedd - I Want You To Know (feat. Selena Gomez)

Plenty of potential entries at least, WTM is about the only one i'm really interested in though heart.gif

Rixton for Top 10, Walk The Moon top 15, DJ Fresh/Leona/Zedd top 40 sound like accurate expectations? Hope that godawful Zeddlena thing completely flops into oblivion though

Posted by: Chez Wombat Jun 6 2015, 11:20 PM

C'mon Walk The Moon! cheer.gif Still not as good as Anna Sun (which should have smashed </3) but a great song and would be good to see them get some success. Can see it being quite an enduring hit too, it's quite radio friendly.

Hope it can at least outchart Rixton though, absolutely AWFUL song puke.gif I don't even mind them and their other two songs were listenable at least, this one really isn't.

Posted by: Joe. Jun 6 2015, 11:22 PM

So glad I can finally legally listen to Zedd.

Posted by: Envoirment Jun 6 2015, 11:26 PM

So happy Leona's released! Really hope it can manage top 40.

Posted by: Dmdr Jun 6 2015, 11:28 PM

I hope Leona can pull it out the bag and go top 40 at least, do you think that is possible guys?

Posted by: Juan Carlos Jun 6 2015, 11:28 PM

Rooting for Walk the Moon! cheer.gif I hope "Fire Under My Feet" and "I Want You to Know", despite it's not one of my favourite songs from Zedd, can get into the Top 40.

OMS managed top 40 with no TV performance/very limited airplay with ~8.9k sold. So I hope with more airplay and a TV performance (or possibly more) we can see Leona go top 40. You need around 12-13k to go top 40 with streaming so I think she could manage that at least!

Posted by: Jade Jun 6 2015, 11:32 PM

'Sun Goes Down' released at LAST. wub.gif Hopefully it can do something. Must check out the new Eric Prydz song, too!

Posted by: ManicKangaroo Jun 6 2015, 11:35 PM

249. Zedd - I Want You to Know (feat. Selena Gomez) [Marc Benjamin Remix]
362. Zedd - I Want You to Know (feat. Selena Gomez) [Fox Stevenson Remix]
1119. Zedd - I Want You To Know (feat. Selena Gomez)

I'm hoping Leona can at least chart in the top 40. It was a silly decision to only add FUMF to Spotify tonight but hopefully she exceeds expectations. Her Palladium performance will air tomorrow (or tonight should I say?) so hopefully that'll boost her a fair bit. She's good with making an impact with her live performances.

That's very true and it seems "Fire Under My Feet" is the type of song that translates really well live! I'm hoping she'll have a few more promo slots, like morning shows etc, over the next week. Maybe it could surprise and take off though? *dreams* laugh.gif

DJ Fresh by far the best new entry this week, really is a fantastic song wub.gif

Surprised it hasn't taken off tbh, I guess its less 'safe' than Gravity was.

Posted by: jase. Jun 6 2015, 11:54 PM

I find 'Believer' to be a bit of a non-event really, especially after the incredible 'Gravity'

Posted by: Joe. Jun 6 2015, 11:57 PM

I can't see Leona coming near the top 40 officially with streaming.

I love both songs, but I think Gravity was more radio-friendly and the collab with Ella Eyre more suited for chart success.

I can see how Believer sounds generic to those not fully into D&B, but trust me it's a great song, especially in the Summer weather!

Praying for Zedd & Selena to go Top 40... It's been a hit nearly everywhere... Just don't get the lack of support at all

628. Kelly Clarkson - Invincible

cheer.gif FINALLY. She was on 'This Morning' on Thursday I believe. And she had Radio 1 Live Lounge (but the perf of this particular song is an "iPlayer Exclusive")

Surprised to see Zedd doing this well, I'm guessing the amount of time it was up for pre-order should allow it to at least get top 40 this week, ouch at Leona though. I can't see her peaking higher than 14 on iTunes. If only Robin Schulz never deleted the version of 'Sun Goes Down' i'm guessing it would have been top 10 by now.

Posted by: Tombo Jun 7 2015, 05:56 AM

Zedd and Selena to smash this week!

Walk The Moon are awesome.

I love the new Leona track.

Believer is sounding pretty good on a first listen.

Zedd #44
Leona #76

I didn't know Leona was releasing this week, she is performing on Sunday Night at the Palladium show tonight, not sure how much of effect she will have. I think streaming will be an issue by the end of the week.

Record company company decided to bring it forward 3 weeks, 3 days ago...before it had built any proper momentum or airplay. I think they wanted it available during the performance tonight and are banking on a bigger boost than the show usually gives. We'll see if it pays off tonight.

She's #62 now.

Posted by: James1987 Jun 7 2015, 09:00 AM

I really don't get what's going on with some of these record companies this year...

Robin Schulz was charting on iTunes because the track wasn't made album only and now its released properly its looking like its going to flop...

Leonas record company are throwing FUMF out now despite the release date originally being for end of June...

I know singles sales aren't great but I don't get what labels are doing at the moment, it just feels a bit strange the way releases are being handled or is it just me?

Posted by: 'Dan Jun 7 2015, 09:05 AM

it would teach the record company a lesson if Robin Schulz didn't even go top 40 on iTunes, when it did a month ago before getting deleted. I agree that was a bad move. Would also like Zedd to miss the top 40 for a similar reason, the release had been delayed for far too long, although I think it will scrape the top 40

Posted by: Mart!n Jun 7 2015, 09:06 AM

Looking at 3 to 5 new entries I guess, Zedd, Walk The Moon and Rixton look dead certs most likely, Leona and DJ Fresh could just miss out on a top 40 new entry, again not really sure where Leona is going to end up, so don't throw your toys at me. tongue.gif Personally I do find it a bit repetitive in places, I just find it a poor release, at least its got a beat to it, but I can't get my head round it.

Posted by: James1987 Jun 7 2015, 09:09 AM

I do agree these rediculously delayed releases do deserve to flop in some respects but its just annoying that these tracks could have been hits and added more new entries to an already stale and slow moving chart...

But on the other side I think they need to have a set way of releasing like going into Spotify maybe on the day of the premier and then a full release date 3/4 weeks later and not the usual 8/12 weeks we have to wait now (Duke Dumont I'm looking at you...)

All these labels need to look at tracks like Lean On & Where Are U Now, no stupid release date, none of this heldback nonsense, just released & left to naturally build up steam.

Posted by: Herbs Jun 7 2015, 09:19 AM

Come on walk the moon. Leona lewis has a faded star reputation and needs her songs to succeed in week 1. Otherwise i would fear critics would label her a failure

I totally agree. It shows that on air/on sale can work when handled correctly. Labels put too much importance on holding back until they feel they can get the best possible peak position. If they want to reduce piracy then making these songs available as soon as people can hear them is the best way forward (some people would still illegally download anyway but those aren't the people OA/OS are targeting).

Leona #45 now!! cheer.gif Keep climbing, hopefully it can be top 30 on iTunes by the time of her performance later tonight.

Posted by: Joe. Jun 7 2015, 10:00 AM

Zeddelena could hopefully pick up some airplay this week. One of my favourite tracks of the year by a mile. It is clearly showing itself to be popular being the highest new release, Zedd doesn't exactly have a die hard fanbase and it's had 0 support.

Leona I hope clinches the top 40 somehow, but I can see it free falling from tomorrow when the performance and fan buys wear off.

That's UK radio for you. Luckily she is signed to Def Jam in the US and it's just been released there so maybe they'll focus on the States since the world follows what's big in America.

Still, #41 at this time of day is still pretty good - and that's before the Palladium where she should enjoy at least a slight boost.

Based off how the pre-order has performed so far I wasn't expecting it to be this 'high' at this point in the day. It is a promising start at least.

Posted by: PaulM1983 Jun 7 2015, 10:26 AM

Desperately want Leona to hit big with this comeback. She needs to rebuild her reputation a little. I absolutely love Fire and thought from the first time I heard it that it sounded like a smash.

I'm pleasantly surprised it's made it to top 40 actually as the preorder performance didn't suggest there was much interest at all. Hopefully it can climb a bit further so any boost it does get tonight will be meaningful. Top 10 is certainly out of the question though, sadly.

Really hope 'Walk The Moon' becomes a decent sized hit that stays around - Leona and Rixton will flop or certainly not perform as expected and streaming will hinder both of them - Not seen any promo for Leona? Does she have anything planned?

To the person who keeps stating that Zedd's new single is getting zero support, I can tell you having had the 'pleasure' of listening to The Hits at work most of the day that the new single is getting plenty of plays.

They also keeping mentioning the fact that Selena Gomez and Zedd have recently broke-up but remain friends. NO1CURR.

And it's not being played on R1, Kiss or Capital which are the 3 which would usually impact the charts the most (or much at all). I had no idea they were a thing though.

Indeed - it's had over a thousand plays according to Comparemyradio! According to some people on here, there are only three radio networks in the country. Of course if you get R1, Capital and Heart it makes it easier to get a hit, but don't be surprised when a record which isn't supported by them does manage to make the top 40, thanks to support from some of the smaller networks and independent stations. Just because you don't listen to them, doesn't mean nobody else does.

I'd hesitate to go anywhere near as far as "utterly dire" but it's certainly not a highlight of her discography for me, far from it. I don't hate it but it's just "there", to be honest... I can count the times I've listened of my own accord on one hand (not that I've heard it outside of my own free will either!) - it's just not grabbing me for repeated listens. It's certainly not the powerful comeback she needs, which is a shame given the hype around this release before it premièred and kinda went nowhere.

I'd say her weakest single, but I like them all. It's just I clearly don't like this one enough if I'm not playing it laugh.gif It's just one of those songs where, if it came on, I wouldn't leap to change the channel/radio station or anything.

It will be interesting how singles and albums chart will shape out now that it will be Friday-Thursday from July. I am also pleasantly surprised that Zedd is high on iTunes. I almost gave up on it doing well, to be honest.

“I Want You To Know” has got a great 'washing machine' breakdown in it. Thought I was back in 2011 for a minute when inexplicably Example used the same trick to have continuous back-to-back hits which all sounded the same.

Walk The Moon – Shut Up And Dance
Zedd feat Selena Gomez – I Want You To Know

Semi-hoping Believer flops because it's pretty weak imo. Rixton's title is a bit unaccurate here as I would like it to do well although the vocals are a little screechy (even for a fair Rixton fan ohmy.gif)
Sun Goes Down and IWYTK are both great but it's their own fault if they flop if they are messing around with release strategies rolleyes.gif
Hope Walk The Moon does well as it's pretty catchy biggrin.gif

Believer deserves to be HUGE. Of course it won't do as well as Gravity as it's not at all commercial sounding, one week top 40 would be a huge achievement for a track of its type.

Aside from that another lousy week for new releases so hope they all flop, especially that awful Walk The Moon rubbish.

Posted by: 'Dan Jun 7 2015, 01:14 PM

Eric Prydz deserves another big smash but sadly it looks like it'll never happen.

Generate isn't even out until tomorrow anyway, but I can't see it making the iTunes top 100

Gives me hope for Britney.

Walk The Moon doing very well despite slightly lacklustre airplay (B-list on Radio 1, Capital FM and the likes will never touch it), and not particularly great pre-orders ohmy.gif Good to see them defying the odds though biggrin.gif!

The public haven't lost interest - they just have no idea she has a new song out. It's only been played around 220 times on radio since its premiere. The only major radio stations spinning the track are Radio 2 and Magic which aren't stations that affect the singles chart much. I think Leona being #30 actually shows there is interest there despite poor airplay.

It's true. I don't think the general public ever really completely lose interest in an artist. In 2012 we probably could've said the public lost interest in Mark Ronson, Robin Thicke, Daft Punk and Pharrell. If you get a commercial song and the general public actually get to hear it, it's possible for almost anybody (except extreme cases like Gary Glitter or someone) to get another hit imo.

But I think some artists get stuck in a downward spiral. They have some under-performing singles then record labels promote them less and radio stations play them less which leads to them performing even worse which leads to less promotion, and so on.

Apparently not as it's only had 1 single play on UK radio stations in the last month! However it has received a significant boost in the US too and it's likely to be due to a Taylor Swift Instagram post made today where she and Rachel are singing 'Fight Song' together. cheer.gif

Rixton won't miss the top 40, it's still climbing and it's way too early to write a song off - give it til tomorrow evening. I think it should make top 15 on iTunes at least. Still underperforming compared to what I expected though ohmy.gif Shame, as it's finally grown on me.

I do think some British artists and labels need to rethink their strategy though, especially dance artists. Still holding their songs back for teo-three months and watch them under-perform (e.g. Shift K3Y, Wilkinson, Duke Dumont, DJ Fresh).

I think Want To Want Me & Cheerleader would have been just as successful OA/OS. Cheerleader in particular would have climbed to #1 long before it actually did had it not been held back & Derulo has a huge UK fanbase that wouldn't snub a new track from him. I guess you're right about Somebody though, but as soon as it entered on streams alone the writing was on the wall for it being popular.

Completely agree with you (as always). My point with Leona is that one performance on The X Factor final a few years ago with 'Hurt' managed to get her to #2 on the iTunes chart and #8 officially with zero radio airplay and no music video promotion. An additional performance at the Royal Variety also helped her official chart position but the point still stands. There is interest in her when people get to hear the song. 'One More Sleep' is another good example. Radio hadn't given her much attention in the four years prior to OMS smashing, but once XF catapulted the song into the top 10 on iTunes, radio got on board and it was very successful.

Posted by: Joe. Jun 7 2015, 06:00 PM

Yeah, though there generally isn't much interest for Leona, admittedly, with some support, I can see the public getting on board quite easily, with exposure as her music is accessible. Will she get that? I doubt it.

I think it was always going to be an uphill struggle in the UK since radio is very political here. But I have faith in Def Jam to rebuild her international career and then hopefully UK radio will jump back on board.

Tbh I am a little skeptical on how well Def Jam will support her considering they were Kylie's US label for the last album, but I imagine they would have a much easier time promoting Leona to a U.S. Audience that will have some memory of her, than Kylie whose last hit over there was Can't Get You Out Of My Head (and also her most recent album under performed practically everywhere).

Fingers crossed they get her good promo and she gets good AirPlay. It is definitely sounds like a potential U.S. Hit.

Wow Zedd, I thought 'Shut Up And Dance' would be this week's radio-friendly song outdoing pre-orders (and most of those haven't been by such a big factor!). I'm less into it than I was months ago but I'd be happy if it somehow made the top 10 (lower peaks [for held back things] feel so insignificant nowadays since top 10 seems to be the cutoff between taking off on streaming and sticking around for some time / falling into oblivion within weeks).

Posted by: Ryan. Jun 7 2015, 09:27 PM

I do think we are beginning to see the ultimate downfall of digital download sales. Sales are very low I'm guessing from that fact that Jason only sold 55k at #1 - possibly less than 20k needed for top 10? - and this is backed up by the fact Zedd has managed an unbelievable top 10 despite horrendous pre-orders. Top 25 for Leona is probably very unusual too considering a complete absence from the top 1500 bar the first few days and the last couple of days. We have to remember both of these have managed this despite no artificial entry position from pre-orders.

As I said in the Apple Music streaming thread, the potential is there for a dramatic shift to streaming as soon as that service launches. I just wonder how this will effect the chart as it's rare for these iTunes top 10 one week wonders ('Roads', 'Together'), to even make top 40 on streaming I think. It's a very nerve-wracking yet exciting time for music fans!

Posted by: James1987 Jun 7 2015, 09:43 PM

Considering it only entered the top 1500 on pre-orders three days before release, I don't think it's doing too badly. It's a shame they didn't leave it at the original release date to continue to build up radio airplay.

Posted by: PaulM1983 Jun 8 2015, 10:16 AM

Leona will go top 20 today if she gets another of increases like she's had this morning. There are 3 songs a few places above her that are falling so she could potentially go to 18. Can't see her getting any higher before it starts to fall though.

Posted by: GTH Jun 8 2015, 10:23 AM

I am actually pleased with FUMF's position so far and it has been gradually improving. My main concern is that it needs stability now and to hold onto that position if it wants to go top 40 on the actual chart (as streaming will severely knock down its position this week for sure). Fingers crossed with it being on the Radio 2 playlist this week and general awareness for the track increasing with casual music fans, it manages to hold on to its position (ideally keep climbing) and not drop down rapidly this week.

Glad to see Zedd/Selena doing well with this. Still think it should have been released sooner but if it manages to get top 10 this week then clearly holding it back was the right strategy in this case. Always happy to see Selena Gomez get more UK hits.

Considering it only entered the top 1500 on pre-orders three days before release, I don't think it's doing too badly. It's a shame they didn't leave it at the original release date to continue to build up radio airplay.

Yeah it's certainly doing 'better than expected' but will still only chart somewhere between 36 - 48, because there just isn't enough airplay yet to stablise it, if they'd kept to the correct release date it would have been in the top 10 at this point, I'm sure.

That's definetely too optimisitc

it's pretty obvious at this stage that she won't make the top 40 on the official chart

I'm totally shocked by how Zedd/Selena is doing, I thought this would be well clear of the top 40!

Also if Rixton can't even get top 10 with this, I don't see where they can go from here.

Posted by: LeeWallace Jun 8 2015, 01:26 PM

I don't get the comments that #21 is better than what you expected for Leona? 21 is rather horrific even with limited airplay. Sales are at an all time low and she's got a dedicated fan base, look at 'What Are You Waiting For' no airplay and peaked at 14, this is Leona's comeback single after almost two years? It should be doing much better than peaking at 21 on iTunes and missing the top 40.

I can safely say that I see no coming back for both her and Rixton.

Posted by: Robot Jun 8 2015, 01:29 PM

What Are You Waiting For had a much longer build up and had pre-order sales lumped onto its original iTunes position though which helped. I mean, it's still pretty awful for Leona but those factors will have helped, she didn't get thrown in at #78 off the back of pre-existing pre-orders, she had to climb her way up from about #1200.

It is undoubtedly extremely disappointing for Leona and I hoped for much better. There's little to no awareness of her new material, and the ever changing release date made it appear that Island were pretty much winging this. I think they anticipated getting radio on board for Leona's massive comeback but it's turned out to be a complete non event. Such a pity.

She could well shift around 15k this week but her lack of streaming support will really hurt. Shame.

Posted by: JosephStyles Jun 8 2015, 01:54 PM

Leona's pretty much replicating Luke Friend's iTunes performance so far, he peaked at #21 iirc, so if she holds up well enough she could make the top 40 but just about. It is quite disappointing because Luke didn't have any radio support at all whereas Leona at least has Radio 2, but in all honesty this is basically how I expected it to do following the release date shifting back to yesterday.

Radio 2 B list isn't anything to brag about, their playlists kick in on Saturdays and they've sitll not played her. Will probably chart at 41, ha. Even if it does scrape the top 40, it won't be good enough for any other radio stations to take notice, so it doesn't really matter either way.

Rixton may not have much radio airplay but they have been all over music tv channels. 4 music had them featuring in practically every break with this song when running a competition not long ago and as has been said, they have had much longer to build up pre-orders and support for the song.

Don't get me wrong, I know 21 is not brilliant and is certainly not going to do her career any favours having her 'big comeback' scrape top 40 if it manages to, but based off how pre-orders have been for the last few weeks and with it getting brought forward 3 weeks earlier than planned it is indeed better than what I expected at this point for this song (still not what I hoped for but oh well).

Posted by: Envoirment Jun 8 2015, 02:58 PM

Pretty pleased with how Leona's doing considering pre-orders don't count towards the iTunes chart anymore and they brought the release date forward not allowing the song to build in airplay. Hopefully Leona won't fall off too much when she does start to fall. Hoping the extra sales of the remixes will help and that she'll be able to do decently on streaming ("Fire Under My Feet" is currently in two popular spotify playlists so I hope that'll help!).

Hoping airplay will build more over the next few weeks and the song will take off. She has another performance on the John Bishop show which will be aired either next week or the week after and more radio promotion coming up.

Without turning this into a typical Saturdays vs Leona stan war (laugh.gif) I don't really think the two situations can be compared. WAYWF was released only a year after they achieved their first number one single. Up until the WAYWF release, they were playlisted by both R1 and Capital with each of their releases. I can't even remember if Capital playlisted the song - I know Radio 1 didn't though. They were releasing WAYWF off the back of many successful radio hits. Bar 'One More Sleep', Leona hasn't had a radio hit since 2009. A lot of the public didn't even know about her third album. There's always a lot of tweets along the lines of "whatever happened to Leona Lewis". Her songs aren't getting the recognition so it is to be expected that the song wasn't going to do as well as her past singles. I think reaching #21 on iTunes with very little radio play, minimal tv play and one promo appearance is a lot better than most artists could manage who haven't had a high-selling hit for 6/7 years.

2013 One more sleep was 26 before X factor (second week released)
2015 FUMF was 26 before Palladium

Will's single was available to download the same day it premiered on radio 2 though on the 27th march, so it was selling in trickles all the time it was gaining more airplay, it only sold 4,139 the impact week he went to #1 with his album, but overall Love Revolution had sold 16,800.
I'm sure Leona can make the chart this sunday if her sales keep buoyant, but I must admit, I'm not a fan of this higgledy piggledy song release stratedgy that Island have done with Florence,Brandon and Will.

True that, last I checked it was just outside Spotify's top 40 so if it makes some nice progress that'll certainly help it in the long run (even if streaming will 'harm' it this week, by moving other tracks ahead). Still 'Shut Up and Dance' is doing very well, it hasn't exactly had a ton of airplay yet so hopefully that'll increase in the very near future <3

It peaked in the top 60 I think, and since video release hasn't been lower than the top 500. It's had far stronger pre-orders than Leona. So I'd say top 20 is safe for it. But I'm not a chart expert/only loosely follow them so I don't know for definite.

Hard to call. It's been in the Top 600 for the past 6 weeks and got as high as #40 when it first went up for pre order. I think top 10 is possible, as long as streaming takes off pretty much instantly.

Walk The Moon up to #8 dance.gif

Pretty Girls *should* at least make the iTunes top 5, when the likes of Cheerleader will probably be selling 30k or less it won't really take much for it to get there

Not letting go already 62... Even with all the new releases and they have almost another 2 weeks... They can release this on this Sunday instead of the next one and still be number 1.

I think it will be a success if Leona manages to stay in the top 40 by Sunday!

Pretty Girls will be lucky to secure a top 20 spot, but I could be wrong

Amazed at the longevity Post To Be is having! ohmy.gif I guess the line "Gotta eat the booty like groceries" has been quoted everywhere, maybe that explains it. Great song though, wonder if it will get a proper push at some point?

The new Weeknd song is very Michael Jackson. His music has been noticeably more upbeat lately, interested to know what's inspired that.

Need to listen to that 3500 song.

It's 'sold' around 90,000 now I think, so it'll pass 100,000 soon. Would be nice if it went top 40 in the charts but I don't really care tbh, at least it just managed to scrape top 75. laugh.gif Its beat is quite similar to Natalie La Rose - Somebody which has charted high so I'll take that instead.

Capitalise on the success of Earned It I guess. The new song is very commercial and sounds nice so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a chart success.

Yeah, when I first heard Post To Be (last Christmas) I didn't think about if it would chart here. laugh.gif If streaming was included in 2013-14, maybe all those Mustard songs would have charted higher. Although they were big culturally anyway so it hardly matters I guess.

Black Magic doing incredibly well for the song it is ohmy.gif to me it sounds very good but not really a smashing chart hit. I don't know how long LF has been top 100 on pre-orders but it's rightly doing fab at #66 yahoo.gif

Good to see 5H in with a good chance of a top 20+ hit too cheer.gif

Posted by: simonf Jun 9 2015, 05:58 PM

Black Magic will go to #1 now I'd imagine, unless something comes out of the blue.

The battle between Lost Frequencies & Tinie Tempah is getting harder to call. LF is catching up on pre-orders but also has a fake version at #58 which must be affecting the pre-orders too! it will be interesting to see what happens there.

Posted by: Jonjo Jun 9 2015, 06:04 PM

Don't forget the sales are the lowest they've been in a little while so pre-orders will be making progress up the charts, but not much more sales. I'm thinking Little Mix will open with about 85k (give or take) and that's nothing to be snuffed at, but I can't quite see it getting 100k+ (as much as I'd absolutely love it to!).

Posted by: mr_aly Jun 9 2015, 06:14 PM

Lost Frequencies pretty much guaranteed top 5 then I'd say. ohmy.gif YAY.

I'm so glad the projected fortunes of this have turned around.

I'm hearing that Duke Dumont track pretty much everywhere at the moment. It's growing on me slightly but it's still by far his worst yet.

Posted by: SevenSeed Jun 9 2015, 06:24 PM

I'd be stunned if Black Magic didn't open with well over 100k, pretty much all the signs are there; pre-order at #55, Capital hammering it already, Radio 1 will follow suit~

That 21st June release week looking quite competitive- Could potentially see Tinie/Jess grabbing the #1 with Lost Frequencies overtaking later on, Flo Rida/Avicii/Fifth Harmony are all surefire Top 5/10 contenders as well!

Posted by: Dobbo Jun 9 2015, 07:06 PM

I think Lost Frequencies going #1 would be too good to be true but anywhere in the top 10 would be incredible! ohmy.gif

Posted by: ¡bré! Jun 9 2015, 07:16 PM

Don't get people saying 'Black Magic' doesn't sound like a big hit. It sounds pretty much like a textbook example of a massive #1 that Capital won't let go of for at least a year. Exactly the sort of inoffensive pop that always does well. Unfortunately a rather big step down in quality from their first two eras for me but go them anyway ~

Good to see 'Worth It' still performing well on pre-orders, hope it can outpeak 'BO$$', by far the better of these two current girlgroup singles ~

Posted by: steve201 Jun 9 2015, 07:24 PM

Sort of annoying there's a fair few songs dying to get released and no1 sales hovering around 60-70k with no big releases until 21/6!!

Posted by: mr_aly Jun 10 2015, 11:39 AM

I think Zedd can stay top 10, but won't be lower than say #12 at worst. That's still an excellent result though, I really thought before this week it wouldn't come anywhere near the top 40.

Avicii should just release 'The Days' with Brandon Flowers instead tbh. *.*

Posted by: 'Dan Jun 10 2015, 03:49 PM

10th July?!? shit, that's a massive mistake - there's no way Avicii's gonna beat Little Mix to #1.

Hopefully one of the two change their release date. Preferably Avicii, I think the best time for him to release is 5th July, in that case it would have to beat the following notable new releases...

Conor Maynard – Royalty
David Zowie - House Every Weekend
iLL BLU feat James Morrison - Lonely People
Sam Feldt feat Kimberly Anne – Show Me Love
Years & Years - Shine

...which should be easy, plus by then Tinie/Jess' sales would have died down so the #1 really is Avicii's.

I think it's more to benefit albums than singles really! Now, albums will be out on the same day worldwide, rather than several days before in Ireland (I know I've illegally downloaded albums upon Irish release on the Friday). I agree though, singles really could be using a similar template drama.gif First issue is radio playlisting OA/OS songs on time though and not upon impact date 2 months later lol.

I find it odd how artists Radio 1 hammer like Foo Fighters, Catfish and the Bottlemen, and Circa Waves don't do better with singles. I suppose it shows that stations like Capital and Heart are more influential and it's not the be-all-and-end-all if a song isn't playlisted by Radio 1.

1043. Felix Jaehn - Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better) [feat. Jasmine Thompson]

I will be surprised if this doesn't go to #1 when it's released at the end of August.

Where do people think Flo Rida and Robin Thicke will chart next week with I Don't Like It, I Love It?

Doing decent on pre-orders, everywhere on radio and probably the catchiest chorus I've heard this year! Hope it goes top 10, but you never know these days.

09. Zedd Feat Selena Gomez - I Want You To Know [It should manage until Friday to be top 10 on iTunes, but I'm guessing it's going to peak at around #14]
14. Rixton - We All Want The Same Thing [It's actually not dropped as fast as I expected, I'm guessing it will finish at around #24 in the chart]
29. Leona Lewis - Fire Under My Feet
41. Ella Eyre - Together [I'm hoping this manages another week top 40, I really don't want her to continue flopping]

Pre-Orders
50. Lost Frequencies - Are You With Me [Could this go to #01? I think it's a possibility especially with sales being so low]
58. Tinie Tempah Feat Jess Glynne - Not Letting Go
61. Little Mix - Black Magic
128. Fifth Harmony Feat Kid Ink - Worth It [i've just noticed that the release date has been pushed back again! It was due out on the 21st, It's now being released 5th July]

Really frustrating to not see Charlie Puth Feat Meghan Trainor having no pre-order yet as 'Marvin Gaye' is #01 on Amazon and has been for over a week

I think it'll do reasonably well and reach the top ten easily, especially since I discovered last night that it's already available for streaming so hopefully it won't suffer from low streaming sales like some new releases have recently in their first week. I honestly never thought that we'd see Robin Thicke anywhere near the top 40 again, just shows the effect Flo Rida can have

I think it'll manage the Top 10. Even if it did miss due to the three other contenders for the Top 10, I can see it sticking around anyway.

It is undeniably catchy but it's kind of hatched on to the whistling trend that existed 3 years ago and the chorus lyrics remind me of Naughty Boy's 'La La La'.

I know no-one likes pushbacks but it's a very very clever move from Syco to push Fifth Harmony back to July 5th for a number of reasons. Firstly, it's only going to be a 5-day week which will mean acts with big fanbases won't lose out towards the end of the week so badly, and Fifth Harmony have a massive fanbase (which still baffles me considering their minimal UK success). Secondly, that week doesn't have much competition, the biggest competition coming from Years and Years and all signs point to Fifth Harmony outpeaking them at the moment. Finally, it's now not releasing on the jam-packing 21st June week alongside Lost Frequencies and Tinie Tempah amongst others, which would have pushed them down a couple of extra places.

All that considered, Fifth Harmony are now in with a chance of #1 in my opinion with top 3 almost certain. I'm thinking Lost Frequencies will now be #1 on the June 21st week, and I can't see Rita putting up a threat. So it'll be possibly Fifth Harmony vs. Lost Frequencies for #1! cheer.gif It's worth checking the pre-order situation, they are just about to go top 100 with a month until release. Only Little Mix are doing better and their release is afterwards.

All that said, the only thing that can throw a spanner in the works is the release of Apple Music on June 30th (we believe). If the "3 month free trial" streams count towards the chart (I personally don't think they will as no money is being made from them via subscriptions or adverts), the charts will be absolutely all over the place with sales sky high - Fifth Harmony are doing well on Spotify though in other countries so maybe they won't be affected like many other new acts are.

I'm not a huge fan of Fifth Harmony, but 'Worth It' has grown on me loads. I wouldn't be adverse to it taking the top spot, since it could mean back-to-back girlband number 1's, with Little Mix releasing the following week. Has that ever happened before?

Its a good move if your record company believes getting to no1 is the be all and end all of things but in the 3 weeks its held back it would most likely be missing out on 150k worth of sales and still peak quite high!

Posted by: Ryan. Jun 11 2015, 03:16 PM

I think for Fifth Harmony a lower-selling #1 will be much more useful than a higher-selling #7 considering they are a brand new act. #1 will give them extra headlines, extra airplay, extra media coverage - you wouldn't get that with a #7 hit even if it sells more.

If we were talking Little Mix then a higher-selling #7 would be more beneficial in terms of getting more income as they don't have a brand to create, but a #1 for Fifth Harmony would be so so helpful in terms of promotion and them being able to have a long-term UK career.

Like it worked for Rixton? kink.gif

There will always be acts that don't fit that pattern! laugh.gif To be fair, the handling of their releases has been very poor, they waited like 4 or 5 months to release a follow-up single didn't they, and then another 6 or 7 months to their single now?

In general, having a #1 automatically moves you into a different league for several reasons - at least in the UK.

Posted by: Joe. Jun 11 2015, 03:27 PM

It kinda did work for Rixton. I think a lot of their support right now, (top 13 in UK airplay) must be riding on the fact they had a recent number 1. The song just is not connecting.

I know, I was just being funny. tongue.gif But you're right, I do think a #1 for Fifth Harmony would help them in their future career, especially since they're a bit different for a girlband with their main sound seeming to be urban/R&B and they seem to be picking up interest around the world.

It's not just the UK - in Australia where almost everything is OA/OS, you still see Australian pop acts heavily pushed to #1 when it's within reach. For example this year, Grace (sister of Conrad Sewell of 'Firestone' fame) with her 'You Don't Own Me' cover was thrown on an advert, flew into the iTunes top 10, and after 3-4 weeks for airplay to catch up reached the official #1, then was brought to full price and the ad seemingly stopped airing. The same is being done with Conrad himself at the moment (with his single 'Start Again', aka I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-'Stay With Me'), and it's how The Veronicas and Justice Crew were helped to #1 last year, and many others to top 5/10/20 peaks and/or certified gold (a lot easier than in the UK). The US used to be similar until it became basically impossible in the last few years, with remixes in 2011 ('S&M', 'Last Friday Night' with a discount on top, unsuccessfully 'Till The World Ends'), holdbacks until 2008-2009 or so ('Touch My Body', 'Love In This Club', 'Makes Me Wonder', 'Right Round'), or discounts/conveniently timed promo wherever possible. OA/OS will eventually be the norm but if a label feels they can achieve a #1, they're always going to try.

One of these needs to release this Sunday imo, with Jason's sales being very low for a #1 it would be such a missed opportunity when both could be #1s.

aside, if Are You With Me does get to #1, would it be the shortest song ever to do so? (I imagine there's some 2 minute record from the 60s that did it though as songs were much shorter back then, but at 2:18 it must be up there)

Almost all songs from the 50's and early-mid 60's were around 2 minutes in length. The shortest #1 I can remember is "Surrender" by Elvis Presley; which is 1:52.

Rock and indie singles don't tend to do well as stand-alone singles, but they do help the sales of the album, which is where most of the focus is. From 2007 onwards, rock artists tended to get a decent sized hit for their first single, with the post-album singles going nowhere, but with streaming it looks like they're not even going to have that any more.

Yeh you make a good argument for holding back for a no1 single and I agree somewhat but if the song is good enough it should chart high at any rate and then they should actually promote the song to get it to the top spot if it has that potential.

It would ensure a culture doesn't creep in (like the 90s) whereby record companies and acts have to create good songs and not release any old stuff.

I assume Stereophonics were on Jools this week? Hence the rise to 41, would love them to get a top 40 hit again!

If next weeks NE are predictably low peaking it will be interesting to see the battle between Major Lazer, Omi & Jason even if the sales will be only around 50k!

Major Lazer should get #3 on Sunday now and it will probably retain the #3 next week as well.

Posted by: LeeWallace Jun 12 2015, 12:51 AM

I don't think Fifth Harmony 'Worth It' has a chance of going to #01, I'm predicting a peak of around #03-06 which is still rather incredible.

06. Galantis - Runaway (U & I) [Looks like this could go back into the top 5 *.*, It wouldn't surprise me if it re-peaked also which is incredible]
45 .Lost Frequencies - Are You With Me ['Are You With Me' going to beat Tinie to #01]
58. Tinie Tempah Feat Jess Glynne - Not Letting Go
70. Little Magic - Black Magic
111. Deorrro & Chris Brown - Five More Hours
112. Fifth Harmony Feat Kid Ink - Worth It
154. Avicii - Waiting For Love [I wouldn't be too surprised to see Avicii beat Little Mix as it's much closer than what I thought]

I'm getting Crazy Stupid Love/Rude teas here - Not Letting Go will most likely make #1 in the first week but Lost Frequencies could take it after that and eventually become the bigger hit? Remember that Rude ended up ahead of Crazy Stupid Love for a couple of weeks before the release but the latter still fairly comfortably made #1.

surprised this is doing better than On My Way did on iTunes when that was held back for ages and this is OA/OS, if only it was held back and released at the start of the chart week then maybe it would've stood a chance of making the top 40 officially sad.gif Quite a weird strategy the label has going on to release 2 of their singles within a week of each other anyway.

Indeed and in that time it never reached the top 30 on radio airplay as radio 1 were their only big supporters but they did do very well on the video chart (top 3i think). Imadine it was held back for 6 weeks would those 45k sales on average a week translate into 250-300k held back sales?

Yeah Graham Norton said 31st July earlier, I guess that must be the "impact date". So I suppose there's a small chance R1 might still support it, but they didn't the last album.

Yeah Graham Norton said 31st July earlier, I guess that must be the "impact date". So I suppose there's a small chance R1 might still support it, but they didn't the last album.

On Graham ' s radio show I'm assuming? Would have loved them to appear on his TV show.

You never know maybe radio 2 Steve. They play listed Blind so I guess it's possible, but I'm not holding my breath lol

Yeah seems they've played it a few times already so I expect R2 will playlist it but will that be of any use..
