Don't think lightning will strike twice here, milking the same joke twice isn't particularly funny and rarely works commercially, and download sales have declined a lot since last year too.

Posted by: Michael Bubré 8th December 2019, 10:00 PM

Kill it

Posted by: Michael Bubré 8th December 2019, 10:01 PM

Is it still better than Tones And I? I'm conflicted.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 8th December 2019, 10:02 PM

Why is he doing this??

Posted by: Jack 8th December 2019, 10:15 PM

The music equivalent of voting for The Brexit Party and defending Piers Morgan.

it's another charity single (for Trussell Trust), he may as well attempt to raise more money for them after last year's success.

hoping this doesn't make #1 though, last year's song was bad enough.

I'd rather Ellie tbh!

Releases with the video at 9am on Friday.

Posted by: Klumpkin 8th December 2019, 10:54 PM

I'm not a fan of charity singles just for the sake of charity singles. Is there any particular reason why and what's he's supporting with this song? As Rich said I can't imagine lightning will strike twice - especially with another sausage roll song lol. Hopefully a peak of #32 and out the next week.

Posted by: WhoChristmasssy 8th December 2019, 11:02 PM

He said he wasn't planning to release another one in the video, but wanted to raise more money.

Why can I see this working for him?

Also, can I move this to somewhere that isn't pop please. It's a stain on the forum x

I hope he does - and next year too!

2020 - Mr Sausage Roll (feat. Amy McDonald, million seller),
2021 - Sausage Rolling In The Deep (feat. Adele, sells more than Candle In The Wind ‘97)
2022 - Life Is A Sausage Rollercoaster of Love (feat. Ronan Keating and B*Witched, breaks Youtube from too many views)
2023 - Another Sausage Roll Christmas (feat. Gary Glitter, LadBaby is banned from the charts forever)

Posted by: dancember 11th December 2019, 01:48 PM

then he'll write something about England scoring a sausage goal and tie it in for the next World Cup and it'll subsequently beat Three Lions to #1.

Posted by: Cody Snomberry 11th December 2019, 04:29 PM

oh dear

I wonder who will be this year’s Ava Max/Joel McElderry this time

Posted by: Mr. C. Joel 11th December 2019, 04:57 PM

I really hope it doesn't make it with his following he could do anything to raise money. I'll admit he did amazing to get Christmas number 1 but leave it there, If this happens every year it's just killing the Christmas chart.

Of course he'll do it! He has such a HUGE following that buy into everything he does, I mean at least have some originality more Sausage Rolls?

So disappointed that I actually unfollowed all his social media because there was no need.

Joel McElderry?
• misses Xmas #1
• gets #1 on a week where virtually no one cares about the chart let alone the top 10
• falls off the face of the earth a year later

that last one is a bit hyperbolic but you get the point

Posted by: T Boy 11th December 2019, 07:07 PM

Does this bother people that much? Christmas no.1 means nothing these days and the no.1s this year have been of low quality anyway. This is a laugh and I quite like him. I don’t see lightning striking twice but it would be much better than most other contenders.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 11th December 2019, 07:17 PM

I kinda hope he gets it tbh.

It’s just for one week and other competitors for the top spot what aren’t Xmas tracks will sell way more in the long run and some may even go to #1 afterwards anyways. Plus it is for charity. I wouldn’t be disappointed at all if he done it again. It’s a bit meh how were still on the Sausage Rolls theme though.

I would argue one week of the year which people outside of chart fans care about the no1 is Christmas week.

Because midnight pre-order splashes are still a thing, this is #1 on AU iTunes with a 2:1 lead. His last song only ever got to #5 but that was a gradual climb.

Posted by: Michael Bubré 12th December 2019, 08:22 PM

This is bound to be significantly more frontloaded than last year's I guess.

I fully expect it to knock everyone down to under 10 or even 5% when it appears on the Uk iTunes...

Posted by: Michael Bubré 12th December 2019, 08:27 PM

Assuming Tones will be selling about 5-6k a week at this stage, that implies LadBaby will probably need to outsell her at least 10 to 1 for the whole week to get #1, so if he doesn't push Tones below 0.1 on the first day it'll probably be safe to say he's not going to get #1. I expect he probably will though, I'm just skeptical it'll hold up well enough during the week.

Posted by: Bjork 12th December 2019, 08:40 PM

I checked last years race for #1 and LadBaby claimed #1 at the very last day
Started at #2 in the first mids, dropped to #3 , reclaimed to #2 and only got to #1 on Thursday with a sudden huge lead

How can this country be any more embarrassed than it should be already after the election results?

Given that the numbers of children in poverty will likely soar over the next five years, this doing well could at least go some way to helping out.

And actually why not have a fun Christmas no.1? It’s hardly any worse than the garbage that’s been no.1 for the last 3 months.

People, especially many of my fellow Brits just love a bit of trash (clearly). I'm already imagining the drunk high school kids shouting along to this. I might have done the same 10 years ago, but now I'm a Bitter Betty.

I don't mind him doing it last year but after that it just gets boring. Hopefully people will think the same and it'll peak at 2 and then he will give up next year.

This is embarrasing, but voting for Boris Johnson and tories is a few levels above this.

Anyway, I am not against raising money for charity, but I wish the musical part of the Christmas #1 quest was better. I am getting nostalgic for X Factor winner's singles from 10 years back or so.

It suddenly all makes sense! (At least Mrs. Brown's Boys' inexplicable popularity seems to have slightly faded now though).

I'm usually all for Christmas novelty songs but LadBaby's particular brand of humour is just viscerally cringeworthy, he seems to be a good guy and all but... bring back the Wealdstone Raider and £1 Fish Man PLEASE. Why does this have to be the one that so many people latched onto.

This! I'm sick to the back teeth of people protesting "but it's for charity!!!!" as if that excuses something for being not funny, uninspired or boring. It is possible to, you know, release something of good quality for charity? Or, like you say, just donate straight to a charity.

Posted by: T Boy 16th December 2019, 06:39 PM

It should probably be up to artists to try and make Christmas no.1 mean something though? Ladbaby is just taking advantage of a gap in the market. If he wasn’t releasing, then it’s be Stormzy which would be just as lame as a Christmas no.1.

I do find it quite funny though, mainly because it’s riling so many people up. At this point, who cares what is Christmas no.1? It’s as meaningless as most no.1s during the year now.

Posted by: December Dong 16th December 2019, 06:42 PM

The tradition is dead now thanks to X Factor.

Posted by: ___∆___ 16th December 2019, 06:57 PM

I would like to think now that XF is a thing of the past that more ‘proper’ acts might try for the Christmas #1 but in the grand scheme of things is it even important anymore?! Not sure it holds any relevance anymore to get the Christmas #1?!

Posted by: Michael Bubré 16th December 2019, 07:06 PM

It's declined in relevance only as much as the charts in general have declined in relevance. It's definitely still more of a big deal than the #1 every other week, still gets some mainstream media coverage etc. (see the article on BBC News last year about how LadBaby was doomed to miss out on #1 due to not being streamed enough which resulted in the song getting the sales boost it needed to get there). There are still a ton of attempts to get various charity/novelty things to Christmas #1 every year, they're not very effective for the most part any more but if it was really entirely irrelevant then no one would be trying.

Posted by: T Boy 16th December 2019, 07:15 PM

Christmas no.1 was a huge deal because it was always a massive sales week with people buying CD singles as stocking fillers. I don’t think it’s been relevant in that way since about 2003. X Factor winners kept the sales high for another decade but really since music consumption became downloads, it just hasn’t been the same.

Posted by: Lukuzz 16th December 2019, 07:49 PM

Fully understand its for charity and that's great but does it really need be released at Christmas every year and get to number 1. Would be fine being at number 2. Meh.

Posted by: Frenchie 16th December 2019, 08:00 PM

I'm not too fussed about this being number 1. But it's a bit annoying that I reckon the majority of people buying the song aren't even listening to it. At least 'Dance Monkey' was actually getting played and listened to.

Posted by: ChristmaSteve201 16th December 2019, 09:07 PM

I think streaming had more of a detrimental effect to the Xmas no 1 than downloads because it takes songs so long to peak now the 3-4 week build up for the Xmas mo1 isn't long enough. That's why Ladbaby is going for no1 and 99% of its sales will be downloads and not streams.

Posted by: lewis🎄green 16th December 2019, 09:44 PM

#3 in Australia and #25 in the US according to Kworb? (It did reach #1 in Australia and top 5 in the US on release though, he must just have some level of following outside the UK as well)

I heard this for the first time tonight at an exercise class and at least it’s a fun song, I wouldn’t mind it as Christmas number one this year. It’s for a good cause and upbeat and fun, it’s better than those boring Military Wives charity singles.

I’ve just bought a copy of the song.

Also, can we all take a moment to talk about how sexy Ladbaby is?

And it's officially the Christmas #1 single! dance.gif

I can see him doing it again next year but with a feature. Either a big artist like Stormzy or the person who originally sang the song he's covering

I reckon Lewis Capaldi would be up for it if asked - he posted a story of him dancing to ILSR the other day tongue.gif

Well done Ladbaby.

Ladbaby forum please.

Who's heard the original version then? It's not by Joan Jett. It's by the Arrows from 1975 and was written by two of their members.

This has somehow managed to pass me by entirely for a second year running. It's an admirable cause and all, but the whole thing makes me cringe beyond belief. The British public are so... lame.

Yes I knew that. They had a big hit with A Touch Too Much.

w00t.gif His wife is hilariously annoying - I could sit and watch her all night lol

I can't begrudge the cause, but this seriously is aural diarrhoea and I don't get how sausage rolls is even funny. I hope he doesn't do it every year and become the replacement for an X-Factor coronation single.

He seems to be desperate to get and beat the Spice Girls and Beatles records.

I think desperate is a bit strong, he’s just having fun in the name of a good cause. I doubt he expected either single to take off the way they have and will probably only go for the record because lightning struck twice already.

Despite how terrible the song is, their reactions are so lovely.

LEGEND!

They seem like nice people and haven't made a penny out of this for themselves.

Posted by: WhoChristmassy 21st December 2019, 04:53 PM

Not from the song but they have made money from the publicity and merchandise.
