So, a very Happy Christmas to the chart team from me and also Happy Christmas to all the members who contribute to this thread . If you normally read the thread without contributing, why not make a contribution this week?

Unbroken - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack | 2014

Label: Parlophone Records

Biography
Coldplay are a British rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London. After they formed under the name Pectoralz, Guy Berryman joined the group as a bassist and they changed their name to Starfish. Will Champion joined as a drummer, backing vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, completing the line-up. Manager Phil Harvey is often considered an unofficial fifth member. The band renamed themselves "Coldplay" in 1998, before recording and releasing three EPs; Safety in 1998, Brothers & Sisters as a single in 1999 and The Blue Room in the same year. The latter was their first release on a major label, after signing to Parlophone.
They achieved worldwide fame with the release of the single "Yellow" in 2000, followed by their debut album released in the same year, Parachutes, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), was released to critical acclaim and won multiple awards, including NME's Album of the Year. They have also come top of the BBC Radio 2 poll of the favourite album of all time. Their next release, X&Y, the best-selling album worldwide in 2005, was met with mostly positive reviews upon its release, though some critics felt that it was inferior to its predecessor. The band's fourth studio album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), was produced by Brian Eno and released again to largely positive reviews, earning several Grammy nominations and wins at the 51st Grammy Awards. On 24 October 2011, they released their fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, which received mixed to positive reviews, topped the charts in over 34 countries, and was the UK's best-selling rock album of 2011.
The band has won a number of music awards throughout their career, including eight Brit Awards—winning Best British Group three times, five MTV Video Music Awards, and seven Grammy Awards from twenty five nominations. Coldplay have sold more than 60 million records worldwide. In December 2009, Rolling Stone readers voted the group the fourth-best artist of the 2000s.
Coldplay have been an active supporter of various social and political causes, such as Oxfam's Make Trade Fair campaign and Amnesty International. The group have also performed at various charity projects such as Band Aid 20, Live 8, Sound Relief, Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief, The Secret Policeman's Ball, and the Teenage Cancer Trust. - Wikipedia

Nice to see 6 Words hanging on but it should be spending way more time top 40.
Nice to see this still hanging in, absolute gem of the track
Yay for Wretch. Absolute beauty
Hoping he can deliver more of the same in 2015, i'm excited and have high hopes for the album.
This song has proven to be quite a grower for me, I don't usually like his output at all.
Everybody to this the more I realize I really need to listen to this more, it's not in my Top 200 tracks of the year but it is surely a higher quality then a good bit of songs featuring on it
6 Words
I actually quite like the studio version of Ben's single compared to when he did it on the show, but I think that is in part because there is a choir included on the chorus so you can't really hear him then.
Still don't think the song is that great (not a fan of the OneRepublic original either), but it is more tolerable now.

Can Sing just go away now. I like the song but I am getting fed up of it now.
I really don't see the continued appeal for this... I must admit that it sounded good to me for the first month or so but now it just grates on me.
Ugh the gift card effect is probably going to shove this back into the top 20
Looks like Iron Maiden is a goner from the mids.
Sing not my favorite singles from Ed Sheeran this year but still good
This is going to do well with the gift card effect isn't it?
I actually like the rapping parts, but the (lack of) chorus & horrific falsetto makes it near unbearable.

Biography
Favoring a naughty schoolboy look that makes him seem even younger than his already tender years (22 when his first major-label album was released), Scottish artist, producer, and remixer Calvin Harris has a similarly youthful and forward-looking approach to his music. Skipping the usual apprenticeship in the clubs or on indie labels, Harris went from posting his own D.I.Y. electroclash music online through MySpace and similar sites, to signing with the multinational giant EMI almost in a single step. A short time later, he was producing material for Kylie Minogue, Dizzee Rascal, and Rihanna.
Born on January 17, 1984, in the southern Scotland city of Dumfries, Harris was first attracted to electronic music in his teens and was recording bedroom demos by 1999. Two of these songs, "Da Bongos" and "Brighter Days," were released as a 12" club single and CD-EP by the Prima Facie label in early 2002 under the artist name Stouffer. With that single to his credit, the still teenaged Harris moved from Scotland to London, but as a very small fish in one of the world's largest and most competitive ponds, Harris floundered; only one of his songs was released during his time in London, "Let Me Know" with vocalist Ayah on the Unabombers' 2004 live-mix CD Electric Soul, Vol. 2.
Returning home to Dumfries, Harris began posting homemade solo recordings to his MySpace page. An A&R representative from EMI liked what he heard and signed Harris to the label in 2006. Following a pair of successful singles, Harris released his debut album, I Created Disco, in the summer of 2007. It featured two Top Ten hits ("Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls"), and climbed high in the album charts. Along with his work as a solo artist, including touring in front of a full live band, Harris quickly became an in-demand remixer — working on singles by Jamiroquai, Groove Armada, All Saints, and CSS. He also wrote and produced songs for Kylie Minogue's 2007 comeback album, and collaborated with Dizzee Rascal on "Dance wiv Me," which reached number one in the U.K.
"I'm Not Alone," the first single from his second album, also hit number one upon release in April 2009, as did the album when it appeared that August. That album, Ready for the Weekend, topped the U.K. album chart and peaked at number 12 on Billboard's U.S. dance/electronic chart. Through 2011, Harris took on production work for Example, Tinchy Stryder, and Rihanna ("We Found Love," a quadruple-platinum hit in the U.S.), while he also issued two more of his own singles (the Kelis collaboration "Bounce" and "Feel So Close"). Harris' third solo album, 18 Months, was a collaboration-filled affair that featured "We Found Love" and "Bounce" plus vocal spots from Ellie Goulding, Florence Welch, and Ne-Yo, among others. It was released in October of 2012. - iTunes

Number 3? How come we've missed 30 places? Plus 'Ghost' has climbed abit this week
My mum's not a fan of "Ghost". She considers it a complaint, rather than a song.
Million-seller soon! Big climb next week too
I really don't want to be negative but this chart has been excruciating ever since Sing. Last Christmas is probably my least favourite Christmas song, so awfully saccharine it makes my skin crawl a little, and the two Blames are as boring as ever.
Probably upwards from now though, even if Ghost is past it these days. I thought I should listen as it's the Christmas #1 week.
Probably one of my favourite tracks of the year, still love it
This week's drop outs:
17. Bring Me The Horizon - Drown
21. Fifth Harmony - Bo$$
34. Union J - You Got It All
40. John Legend - All Of Me
Ghost Such a good pop song
A bit disappointed that George's "Listen to the Man' hasn't made it?

Biography
Taylor Alison Swift (born December 13, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter. Raised in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, Swift moved to Nashville, Tennessee at the age of fourteen to pursue a career in country music. She signed with the independent label Big Machine Records and became the youngest songwriter ever hired by the Sony/ATV Music publishing house. The release of Swift's eponymous debut album in 2006 established her as a country music star. "Our Song", her third single, made her the youngest person to single-handedly write and perform a number one song on the country chart. She received a Best New Artist nomination at the 2008 Grammy Awards.
Swift's second album, Fearless, was released in 2008. Buoyed by the pop crossover success of the singles "Love Story" and "You Belong with Me", Fearless became the best-selling album of 2009 and was supported by an extensive concert tour. The record won four Grammy Awards, with Swift becoming the youngest ever Album of the Year winner. Swift's third album, 2010's Speak Now, sold over one million copies in its first week of US release and was supported by the Speak Now World Tour. The album's third single, "Mean", won two Grammy Awards. Swift's fourth album, Red, was released in 2012. Its opening US sales of 1.2 million were the highest recorded in a decade, with Swift becoming the only female artist to have two million-plus opening weeks. The singles "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" and "I Knew You Were Trouble" were worldwide hits. The Red Tour is visiting worldwide venues in 2013 and 2014.
Swift is known for her narrative songs about her experiences as a teenager and young adult. As a songwriter, she has been honored by the Nashville Songwriters Association and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Swift's other achievements include seven Grammy Awards, twelve Billboard Music Awards, eleven American Music Awards, eleven Country Music Association Awards and six Academy of Country Music Awards. She has sold over 26 million albums and 75 million digital single downloads worldwide. Forbes estimates that she is worth over $220 million. In addition to her music career, Swift has appeared as an actress in the ensemble comedy Valentine's Day (2010) and the animated film The Lorax (2012). As a philanthropist, Swift supports arts education, children's literacy, natural disaster relief, LGBT anti-discrimination efforts, and charities for sick children. - Wikipedia

Hoping Christmas sales can benefit Ella Henderson like they did Rebecca Ferguson a few years back, deserves to do well with her debut album. It is a real shame that "Ghost" is hanging around like it is and overshadowing the other releases, though I'm hopeful "Yours" can hang around for a bit in the new year.
"Shake It Off" on its way out, but I'm sure it'll be back in February with the BRITs (unless she performs "Blank Space").
The Vine video of Tom Robinson dancing to "Shake It Off" is the funniest thing I've seen all year.
I imagine this will be a HUGE beneficiary of the Gift Card effect, I'd possibly say even top 10 or close if streaming wasn't hindering it.
I'm much preferring Blank Space, Style and Out Of The Woods at the moment. This has been overdone now.
Apparently:

Shame Shake it off is dropping, No streaming is letting sales down a lot
Also Sia Challender
Song of the year.
Why's this been boosted again now? Surely it's still not from Andrea's X Factor performance a few weeks back?
Cringing at Jameela's pronunciation of "Wealdstone"
Oh, and the vocals on Chandelier.
I was slightly gutted that it "only" got to #6 all those months ago, but it's more than made up for that with its run. Truly one of, if not THE song of the year
Fifth time "Chandelier" has bounced back up after falling the previous week.
Yes sia. Back into the top 20 next week please
Chandelier....

Oh god, has streaming hampered this that much?
I hope it can get higher after Christmas. Still, this will easily outsell 'Glow' which is good for her.
What is this doing as low as 30?
I've really come to love it recently, I lost interest a bit with Glow.
Oh I forgot to say hello!
so good afternoon everyone, bit late but better late then never
Ella's only 18? I thought she was a bit older. My fave was 'Glow'. Wish it had a better chart run.

Yours is pretty bland...
Quite unlike I Loved You! Falling WAY too much though
This should have had a better chart run, one of the best tracks of the year!
Yours is a nice winter Ballad although not as good as some of her other stuff
Blonde dropping so much
All of the recent songs that were BJSC hits before charting have had short chart runs This song, Sunlight, Bullit, Pushing On...
I thought I Loved You might not still be in, having not looked at iTunes or anything, so very pleased to be hearing it now, it just gets better and better.

Been loving the Blonde track this week.
Generic, but hella good!
I remember back before this was "properly" released everyone saying it'll be around forever. How right you all were!
The problem with all these dance tracks is that they are held back for far too long. Yes they get pleasing chart peaks for record labels, but they don't sell that much in the long run. Going way back to "Changes", we've had so many that deserved to sell more - "Jubel", "Walking with Elephants" and "Bullit" to name a few.
Alesso's "Heroes" is soon to join them in this category, and there's Mike Mago & Dragonette's "Outlines" to come out ridiculously late from its debut in 2015.
Either "Budapest" needs to get a good few boosts and become a million seller or it needs to bugger off - "Listen to the Man" needs its time to shine!
Budapest But for you I'd lose it all

Swiftly updating albums for once. Woop.
Pleased to see Take That back in the top five for Xmas, it's a great album that really doesn't deserve the 'underperformance' label.
Still not sick of "Don't", one of the best this year IMO
I haven't listened to Lucy Pearl's "Don't Mess With My Man" though, I imagine it's also good Must do that.

Biography
Although the first solo single from soul-inspired, London-born artist Sam Smith was issued in early 2013, it was his soaring vocal contribution to Disclosure's October 2012 U.K. garage track "Latch" which brought him to most people's attention. For most of his teens, Smith balanced study with music, soaking in the raw and passionate approach to performance exemplified by his favorite artists at that time such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and Chaka Khan. "Latch" hit the upper reaches of the U.K. singles chart when Smith was 21, and many were surprised when his debut solo track took a more tempered path. The production on February 2013's "Lay Me Down" — also courtesy of the ordinarily dancefloor-focused duo Disclosure — recalled the stripped-back material that had proved successful for Adele in the preceding years. Next, Shahid Khan — aka Naughty Boy — decided to follow his Emeli Sandé-fronted U.K. Top Ten hit "Wonder" with the infectious, Bollywood sample-driven "La La La." Featuring Smith's powerful lead vocal, it became an instant May 2013 U.K. number one single following his spring tour in support of Sandé. - iTunes

Biography
Best known for her Tony-nominated performance in the Broadway smash Rent, singer/actress Idina Menzel made her solo debut in 1998 with the pop-soul effort Still I Can't Be Still. She joined the cast for Wicked in 2003 and appeared on the recording that same year, while 2004 saw her releasing the album Here. The following year, Menzel appeared on the soundtrack to the television show Desperate Housewives, and a duet with Ray Charles (which the pair had recorded back in 1998) found its way onto the tribute album Genius & Friends. In 2007, a dance version of Wicked's "Defying Gravity" became Menzel's first club hit. A year later she landed on the major label Warner Bros. and released a new album, I Stand. - iTunes

I saw Frozen this week, it was fab and this made SO much more sense in context. I admit before seeing it in the film, I did think of this as some nonsensical ramblings.
I'm still not overly keen on the song in isolation though.
One of the best tracks of the year, it's AMAZING to see it still hanging on!
Still love this ha ha!
Let It Go is the best song in the charts tbh.

Biography
Timothy McKenzie (born 4 January 1989), better known by his stage name Labrinth, is an English singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. Initially, he was tipped to work as a producer, but Simon Cowell signed him to his record label Syco Music as a solo act. In the process, Labrinth became Cowell's first non-talent show signing in six years.
Labrinth made his debut appearance on the UK Singles Chart in March 2010, when his collaboration with rapper Tinie Tempah, "Pass Out", reached number one. McKenzie has collaborated with Tinie Tempah on numerous occasions since. Labrinth's first solo single, "Let the Sun Shine" was released in September 2010, reaching number three in the same chart. His debut album Electronic Earth, was released on 31 March 2012, having been preceded by the singles "Earthquake" featuring Tinie Tempah and "Last Time", which peaked at number two and number four respectively. He achieved his first number-one single in November 2012 with "Beneath Your Beautiful", featuring Emeli Sandé. - Wikipedia

Chart fact: Ed Sheeran's 'x' is the Christmas album with the most total number of weeks at number-one since Shania Twain in 1999 (also 11 weeks in total), though he's sure to go beyond that (next biggest in Spice Girls in 1995 with 15).

Other releases from the album included "Nobody's Perfect", "Who's Laughing Now" and "Who You Are", which all charted within the top 20 in the UK. Release of the fifth single, "Domino", resulted in further international chart success, peaking at number six on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and becoming her second UK number one. The seventh single released from Who You Are, "LaserLight", became the album's sixth top ten single, making her the first British female artist to have six top ten singles from a studio album. Her second album, Alive, was released on 23 September 2013 and reached the top 5 in the UK Albums Chart. Aside from her musical career, Jessie J served as coach and mentor on television show, The Voice UK.
Citing various influences, Jessie J is recognised for an unconventional musical and performance style that mixes soul vocals with contemporary R&B, pop, electropop, and hip-hop beats. Jessie J has garnered various awards and nominations for contributions to the music industry, including the 2011 Critics' Choice BRIT Award and the BBC's Sound of 2011. As of April 2012, Jessie J had sold over 11 million singles and 2.5 million albums, worldwide. - Wikipedia

I don't like seeing this rising one bit.
Gonna be hating it even more next week then.
Good for Ella and Paloma holding strong in the top 15 with their albums, hopefully they got decent sales to add to their totals this week.
#22 for Nicki isn't as bad as I thought, I was expecting it to miss the top 30.
Jessie J climbing *.*
Oh and I'm still firmly in the Let It Go HATE camp.

I love this so much, I really respect him for doing something so different like this. His album is so much more interesting than Calvin's recycled one.
Tiring a little bit of Dangerous in truth now, have been listening solidly since premiere date mind!
Still the best we've had in many a song.
David Guetta's best in a longggg time!
'Dangerous'
Taken a few weeks but thoroughly obsessed with 'Dangerous' now One of my faves from Guetta now.
Fantastic sales for 'x'! [/late] I had a feeling for a while that it'd pass 200k for Xmas week, pleased to be proven right. Hope there are a few other albums over 100k.
I'm still excited to see what's chosen as the follow-up to this. He has so many great tracks on 'Listen' to choose from, I personally think he should leave the Emeli Sande one a bit longer.
Dangerous deserves so much more! Much much better than Lovers On The Sun, no question

Whoops at the drop for this.
Ouch at that drop. Vocal version is really weak so no major disappointment though.
Such an undeserving tumble for this track, but I'm sure it'll stabilise a bit further down, "Gecko (Overdrive)" sure did.
I don't like that fall of "Last All Night (Koala)"
Oliver Heldens Doesn't deserve to drop THAT much, it'll be out of the top 40 next week at this rate
I hate the official charts company for including streaming its making good songs falling so hard Love Last All Nights
However making Hozier in the top 20 is a great thing so I dont hate it that much
Last All Night (Koala) deserves WAY more than that drop, incredible dance track
Like the way Jameela says "Don't", sounds like she is telling you off.

Quite a wicked chart run for Hozier
Oh please no, I can't bear having to listen to this every week...
So glad this is top 20!!
'Take Me To Church' entering the Top 20 Excellent chart run so far, hopefully it keeps getting bigger and bigger!
Hozier and Oh Jameela Take Me To Church peaked at 22...last week...when you were on the chart presenting
Keep going Hozier! I thought it'd never reach the top 20 a while ago, what an incredible feat for it.
Such a lovely song, really glad it is finally top 20.
Hozier finally top 20 - and he may climb further yet, coming to break Imagine Dragons' record for latest point in an unbroken chart run to reach a peak? Still sounds great so hooray for its continued success
Aside: some fun coincidences in the album chart this week. 38/40 of the top 40 are the same as last week, with a new entry from a rapper (Nicki Minaj) and a boyband (5 Seconds Of Summer) kicking out last week's only two new entries, which were by a rapper (J. Cole) and a boyband (Union J).
Glad to see this top 20. I feel like it'll still peak higher, though.
Biggest sleeper hit of 2014? Only other hits like this I can remember in recent years are The 1975's "Chocolate", Awolnation's "Sail" and Foster the People"s "Pumped Up Kicks". I remember hating this the first time I heard it (months and months ago, when it was #1 in Ireland), but I've really grown to enjoy it.
See, not all BJSC hits have short chart runs!
hooRAH for this going top 20 finally!
Yay grab that top twenty peak Hozier!
Just catching up~
* 'all of me' has finally left the building
* still loving blonde
* 'let it go' needs to DIE
Budapest must be coming up soon
5-21 for Oliver Heldens is such an undeserved plummet, pfft.
So happy for Hozier! Absolutely brilliant song and one of the stand outs of 2014. Really deserving of a high chart position.
Has Take Me To Church now achieved the longest time in the top 40 before being top 20?

- iTunes

I can't stand 'Stay With Me' any more, dreary as hell.
This song's refusal to piss off is starting to depress me a bit.
Can this song just go away already. I think I'm more sick of this than All Of Me and Let It Go.
i still LOVE stay with me haha
Oh Stay with me Not his best though
At 30 weeks in the top 30, maybe this could break Happy's record as well?
Am I the only one who didn't see this spending 30+ weeks in the T40. While "Money on My Mind" hasn't done half as poorly as I thought it would, I was sure this wouldn't fare that much better. The poorest album track imo, but great to see Sam Smith getting success regardless - "Like I Can" deserves to be HUGE though!
This is such a poor Christmas chart in truth (and it can't even wholly be blamed on streaming).
At least this didn't return to the top 10 which was entirely plausable.
Having said that everything performed on X Factor final has done minimal. Where's Photograph/Where Do Broken Hearts Go?
'Stay With Me' is just so monotonous~

Biography
Mariah Carey (born March 27, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, actress, and philanthropist. Under the guidance of Columbia Records executive Tommy Mottola, Carey released her self-titled debut studio album Mariah Carey in 1990; it went multi-platinum and spawned four consecutive number one singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart. Following her marriage to Mottola in 1993 and success with hit records Emotions (1991), Music Box (1993), and Merry Christmas (1994), Carey was established as Columbia's highest-selling act. Daydream (1995) made music history when its second single "One Sweet Day", a duet with Boyz II Men, spent a record sixteen weeks on top of the Billboard Hot 100, and remains the longest-running number-one song in U.S. chart history. During the recording of the album, Carey began to deviate from her R&B and pop beginnings and slowly traversed into hip hop. This musical change became evident with the release of Butterfly (1997), at which time Carey had separated from Mottola.
Carey left Columbia in 2000, and signed a $100 million recording contract with Virgin Records. Before the release of her first feature film Glitter (2001), she suffered a physical and emotional breakdown and was hospitalized for severe exhaustion. Following the film's poor reception, she was bought out of her recording contract for $50 million, which led to a decline in her career. She signed a multi-million dollar contract deal with Island Records in 2002, and after an unsuccessful period, returned to the top of music charts with The Emancipation of Mimi (2005). Its second single "We Belong Together" became her most successful single of the 2000s, and was later named "Song of the Decade" by Billboard. Carey once again ventured into film with a well-received supporting role in Precious (2009); she was awarded the "Breakthrough Performance Award" at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, and Black Reel and NAACP Image Award nominations.
In a career spanning over two decades, Carey has sold more than 200 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. In 1998, she was honored as the world's best-selling recording artist of the 1990s at the World Music Awards. Carey was also named the best-selling female artist of the millennium in 2000. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, she is the third best-selling female artist in the United States, with 63.5 million certified albums. With the release of "Touch My Body" (2008), Carey gained her eighteenth number one single in the United States, more than any other solo artist. In 2012, Carey was ranked second on VH1's list of the "100 Greatest Women in Music". Aside from her commercial accomplishments, Carey has won five Grammy Awards, 17 World Music Awards, 11 American Music Awards, and 31 Billboard Music Awards. Referred to as the "songbird supreme" by the Guinness World Records, she is famed for her five-octave vocal range, power, melismatic style and signature use of the whistle register. - Wikipedia

"Everyone's favourite Christmas song" - explains why it usually charts lower than The Pogues ~ The Pogues victorious on Christmas Day once more despite streaming *.*
Yay for Mariah!! I actually thought this would have just been outside the top20. They'll be telling us Band Aid 30 is top 10 next!! Nah, don't think so!
Sorry Jameela Your an amazing chart presenter but All I Want for Chirstmas is not my favorite christmas song IMO...Cant wait for The Pouges
Loving a bit of AIWFCIY at the mo ~ so gloriously Christmasy
I can see this spending another week T20 next week. It'll have 5 days of sales/streaming - and surely streaming on Christmas day will benefit it hugely? With only "Heroes" as a new entry above it, could it well improve on it's #16 peak in 2014?

Song info
"Do They Know It's Christmas?" is a song written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in 1984 to raise money for relief of the 1983–85 famine in Ethiopia. The original version was produced by Midge Ure and released by Band Aid on 28 November 1984.
At a press conference on 10 November 2014, Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure announced that in 2014 a group of artists would again come together to re-record the song, this time under the banner of 'Band Aid 30' and in aid of the Ebola crisis. It was released on the following Monday, 17 November, just 11 days short of the 30th anniversary of the release of the original version of the track. - iTunes

Band Aid 30 not even the biggest selling christmas song. Ooops.
Woah Band Aid 30 really has failed to live up to expectations
ASDA are not even knocking them out
Ouch, Band Aid needs a Band Aid on that chart run!
Quite the Pogo chart run for this. Probably only get one more week top 40 (a.k.a. flop)
Oh deary, this dropped loads since Friday Will probably be lucky to hang onto the top 100 next week now! Well at least we got a quirky chart run out of it.
I actually still think this is a very good version, shame people haven't taken to it more.
I'd like to think this didn't perform as well as expected on account of it not being remotely listenable.
Hopefully this will be the last time I ever hear it in my life.
Explain something to me - will future purchases of this song (i.e. in 2015) still have it's tax wavered and will all money from sales still go towards to Ebola cause?
Everyone had such high expectations of Band Aid 30. I actually really like the track, though as everyone is in agreement with the original cannot be beaten.
Poor Band Aid Really need to change the song and formula its getting a bit boring every 10-20 of the same kind of song and same lyrics
Ha ha Jameela!
I do wonder if we'll EVER hear of Band Aid 30 again after this week (not even on those 'all the Christmas number 1s' shows seeing as it wasn't!)

Biography
Rather than the usual bombast or snooze-inducing "relaxation music," the U.K. six-piece known as Clean Bandit mash classical music and pop forms for an airy and dreamy yet driven sound that's like the chamber music version of house music. The core four-piece of the group were known as the Chatto Quartet, a classically trained string quartet that performed J.S. Bach and cited Jacqueline du Pré as an influence, but their post-show, wind-down music often consisted of garage, two-step, Craig David, and Arcade Fire tracks. The quartet members were aware of both producer Jon Wandeck and MC Ssegamic through the duo's work in photography, and when Wandeck suggested they play on one of his house music cuts, Clean Bandit were born. With MC Ssegamic on the mike, they released the classical-meets-house-meets-hip-hop-meets-heartbreak song "Telephone Banking" in the summer of 2011. Their Dance Armstrong mixtape followed in 2012, while 2013 saw the release of their Mozart's House EP. - iTunes

Biography
Following the success of JLS and the Wanted, X Factor contestants One Direction were the next group of heartthrobs to help revive the boy-band concept. The quintet outdid all of their predecessors, becoming the biggest boy band since Take That, selling millions of albums and singles, filling arenas and making movies, while hitting number one many times over across the world with undeniably hooky songs and plenty of boy next door charm.
The group was formed by Niall Horan from Mullingar, Ireland; Zayn Malik from Bradford; Harry Styles from Cheshire; Louis Tomlinson from Doncaster, and Liam Payne from Wolverhampton (the latter had previously reached the judge's house stages of The X Factor as a 14-year-old back in 2008). Each originally entered 2010's seventh series of X Factor as individuals, but following a suggestion from guest judge Nicole Scherzinger, they were grouped together to become One Direction. Mentored by Simon Cowell, they soon became one of the favorites to win the show, thanks to renditions of Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You," Elton John's "Something About the Way You Look Tonight," and Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart." However, despite receiving a standing ovation for their duet with Robbie Williams ("She's the One") in the live final, they eventually finished third behind Rebecca Ferguson and winner Matt Cardle.
Spotting the potential of five Justin Bieber-esque teen pinups, Cowell signed them to his Syco label in a two-million dollar deal, and after performing on the X Factor tour, the quintet began work on their debut album with Savan Kotecha (Britney Spears, Enrique Iglesias). Following a sponsorship deal with Nintendo DS and a book, Forever Young, named after their cover of the Alphaville classic that was intended to be their winner's song, they released their first single, "What Makes You Beautiful," in late 2011. The full-length album Up All Night followed soon after. In 2012, One Direction became the first British band to debut on top of the Billboard 200 list when Up All Night sold over 176,000 copies during its first week of release in America.
In late 2012, One Direction released their sophomore album, Take Me Home. Highlighting more of the band's melodic pop, Take Me Home featured songs and production via Sweden's Carl Falk, Rami Yacoub, and Savan Kotecha, who worked on Up All Night, as well as contributions from singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran. The album proved to be another smash and topped charts around the world, earning multi-platinum certification in half a dozen countries. The singles "Live While We're Young" and "Little Things" also hit number one across the globe, and "Kiss You" reached the Top Ten in the U.S.
One Direction then embarked on a globe-spanning tour in which the band played over 100 shows, including six sold-out nights at London's massive O2 Arena. At the same time, they were being filmed by director Morgan Spurlock for This Is Us, a mix of documentary and concert footage that proved to be successful at the box office when it was released in August of 2013. While they were touring, One Direction also began work on their third album, Midnight Memories. Released just in time for the 2013 holidays, the record featured songwriting input from all the members, a new production team, and some new folk and '80s hair metal influences. It nearly outdid Take Me Home and Up All Night, peaking at number one in seven countries and spawning the singles "Best Song Ever" and "Story of My Life." - iTunes

A bit of a drop from the midweeks for 'Go All Night'! Still, this is a pretty decent result after the last single's mega flop and this being a post-album release.
#14 is very impressive for this especially in Christmas week. This is a big return to form for them after 'Unmissable' which I never liked much.
a nice result for Gorgon City, would be interesting to see if it sticks around much after the gift card effect wears off
The weakest of their 5 singles but still great to hear Gorgon City in the charts again. Such a wonderfully produced album.
Would have been nice for J Hud to have had her first top 10.
This is co-written by Kiesza? Great! Love it, deserved top 10 though
I was expecting a Top 10 debut, but if it's considered how "Unmissable" did and streaming, I guess it's good though.
Oh NO! Gorgon City missed the top ten?!
'Go All Night'
Not bad, its better than their last hit that tanked.
I think this is my second favourite after 'Ready For Your Love' now.
(Actually, 3rd with 'Real' factored in as well)
Go All Night
I like Gorgon City's style a lot more than the likes of David Guetta & Calvin Harris, feels a lot more fresh.
Ah man, this was still #9/10 on Friday - now down to #14. Glad they've managed another hit from 'Sirens', albeit with cheating method (removing track and making it a pre-order) much like Wiley did with "Lights On" to achieve another T10.
Fingers crossed this can stick around for a while, though I won't hold my breath with the gift card effect looming.

- iTunes

Really happy this has done well. Would have loved it to be top 10, but I can settle for a second top 20 for Jennifer Hudson.
'Sirens' is great. Unmissable and this should've been top 10 hits too.
Btw, Hi y'all!
I think it's pretty justified to call the John Lewis Xmas ad a new tradition - if it isn't then how many more years does it need to go on before it can be considered one? They clearly aren't stopping them any time soon and like it or not it is now a part of Christmas in the UK, remember the media coverage / anticipation for this year's ad.
Sam's tone in the chorus of "Like I Can" is just unbearable for me :\

Biography
With a "cheeky chappy" persona to match Robbie Williams and vocals reminiscent of original Pop Idol Will Young, former call-center worker Olly Murs was one of the success stories of the 2009 season of The X Factor, finishing runner-up to Joe McElderry in the hotly contested final. Born in Essex in 1984, Murs showed little interest in singing while at school, focusing his attention on football, where he played for the school team and later semi-professionally for local non-league team Witham Town. In 2007, he appeared on Deal or No Deal, where he won a lowly £10, but it was his performance of Stevie Wonder's "Superstition" on the sixth series of The X Factor that enabled him to show off his talents. Mentored by Simon Cowell in the live stages, he wowed judges with renditions of songs by the Beatles, Queen, and George Michael and soon became the favorite to win the show. However, despite a duet with musical hero Robbie Williams in the final, Murs finished a respectable second. In 2010, he signed a six-figure record deal with Epic/Syco Music and embarked on the sold-out X Factor arena tour. After being personally invited by Williams to play at the televised charity football event Soccer Aid, Murs released his first single, the Jason Mraz-inspired "Please Don't Let Me Go," in August. His debut album, featuring songs written by Eg White, Scouting for Girls' Roy Stride, and Wayne Hector, was released in 2010. The record produced three U.K. Top 20 singles, with "Thinking of Me" and "Heart on My Sleeve" racking up chart positions alongside the debut number one "Please Don't Let Me Go."
Murs took a short break from his musical career in late 2011 to present the eighth season of The Xtra Factor — a spinoff behind-the-scenes look at The X Factor — returning to the program that shot him to fame. His experience with the dynamics involved in the show and his upbeat character made him a firm favorite with the audience — as well as flirty co-presenter Caroline Flack. During the recording of each show, Murs was working on songs for his second album with writers Steve Robson (Lily Allen, James Morrison) and Claude Kelly (Kelly Clarkson, Backstreet Boys). The first single from his second record, "Heart Skips a Beat," featuring U.K. hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks, was released in summer 2011 and swiftly became a hit. The full release, In Case You Didn't Know, followed in November and secured his first U.K. number one album. The following year, Murs opened for sprightly boy band One Direction on their North American tour and re-released the "Heart Skips a Beat" single, replacing Rizzle Kicks with Philadelphia rap duo Chiddy Bang, to coincide with the shows. Also in 2012, Murs released his third studio album, Right Place Right Time, which included the single "Troublemaker," featuring rapper Flo Rida. ~ Jon O'Brien & Scott Kerr, Rovi / iTunes

The Pogues at least a non-mover! I won't hold my breath for them to have entered the top 10 but at least that's another victory over Mariah who dropped
Caught the error that time! Olly Murs number 1? I wish.

Biography
The Pogues are an Irish band from London, formed in 1982 and fronted by Shane MacGowan. The band reached international prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. MacGowan left the band in 1991 due to drinking problems but the band continued first with Joe Strummer and then with Spider Stacy on vocals before breaking up in 1996. The band reformed in late 2001, and has been playing regularly ever since, most notably on the US East Coast around St Patrick's Day and across the UK and Ireland every December. The group has yet to record any new music and, according to Spider Stacy on Pogues.com, has no inclination to do so.
Their politically tinged music was informed by MacGowan and Stacy's punk backgrounds, yet used traditional Irish instruments such as the tin whistle, cittern, mandolin and accordion.
The Pogues were founded in Kings Cross, a district of Central London, in 1982 as Pogue Mahone—pogue mahone being the anglicisation of the Irish póg mo thóin, meaning "kiss my arse". - Wikipedia

Painfully close to top 10 again... no doubt made it on sales (streaming where are you when we need you?)
X Factor final actually helping one song then at least!
The Pogues claiming full victory over Mariah this year *.*
Reaching the top 20 for 10 consecutive years is an incredible achievement! Even in 2010 when everyone briefly went off Xmas music for some reason (judging by the low peaks for all of the standards that year).

So close again! Ah well, at least it got there on sales alone. Next year!!!
Awww The Pogues just missing the top ten again!
Oh there's few positions more frustrating than 11 two weeks in a row! But still, much love for the Pogues continuing to dominate at Christmas and I hope it can continue, well, forever
I guess with Christmas being fairly late in the week this could hopefully go top 10 next week
So pleasing to hear this so high up the chart again, it's still sounding just as perfect as it does every year and I'm actually feeling more Christmassy than usual this year, so even more so. <3
Best run for FONY since 2007!
Damn, would love the Pogues to go top 10 again!

Worst 'hit' of 2014 for me, and is actually the only song I'll mute/turn off the radio for. How she's looking to get a second hit is beyond me, it sounds exactly like this!

The sooner Jameela goes the better.
Calvin continuing to slay in the top ten!
'Outside' ~ awesome tune
Sad to see Gorgon City/Jennifer Hudson miss the top 10 but #14 is great and happy to see Jennifer in the UK charts again! Its streaming is increasing so I hope that it will stick around for a while and perhaps even climb into the top 10 sometime?

Olly slaying 1D as usual, being higher with his post-album single *.* (I actually prefer 'Night Changes' to 'Up' but both are good).
I don't know how people are hearing 'treble' as 'trouble' in AATB, it's plain and clear what it actually is?
Same for that "starbucks lovers" thing in 'Blank Space', I'm convinced people are just saying that to try and be funny.
By no means the worst 1D song, but that's not saying much, it's still rather awful~
Four songs that had a Top 40 midweek position but failed to keep it by Sunday.

- Wikipedia

One of her very best for me.
And it's only when you know the actual lyrics do you realise how silly hearing Starbucks lovers was but at face value it sounded entirely plausible!
I adore this so so much, definitely one of my favourite songs this year
I can kind of see where 'Starbucks Lovers' comes from but I can't say I hear it myself (maybe because I knew what the actual lyric was before I heard the song).
This is still so so good, wonder if it could contend for #2 next week with the gift card effect (Mark Ronson will prevent her from challenging for #1 of course).

Biography
Take That are a British pop group that formed in 1990 currently consisting of Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, and Mark Owen. The original line-up also featured Jason Orange and Robbie Williams. Barlow acts as the group's lead singer and primary songwriter. Owen and Williams would provide backing vocals, with Donald and Orange serving primarily as dancers. In total, the group have had 27 top 40 singles and 16 top 5 singles in the United Kingdom alone, 11 of which have reached number 1, as well as having seven number 1 albums. Internationally the band have had 54 number one hits and 35 number-one albums. Robbie Williams left the band in 1995 while the four remaining members completed their world tour and released a final single before splitting up in 1996.
After filming a 2005 documentary about the group and releasing a new greatest hits album, a four-piece Take That without Williams officially announced a 2006 reunion tour around the UK, entitled The Ultimate Tour. On 9 May 2006, it was announced that the group were set to record new material together once again; their fourth studio album, Beautiful World, was released in 2006 and was followed up with The Circus, in 2008. The group achieved new success as a four-piece, scoring a string of chart hits across the UK and Europe while taking the number of records sold to 45 million worldwide. Williams rejoined Take That in 2010 for the band's sixth studio album, Progress. It was released on 15 November of that year and became the fastest selling album of the 21st century and the second fastest selling album in British history, whilst also making it the first album of new material to feature Take That's original line-up since their 1995 album, Nobody Else. Since 2011, Take That have set the new record for the fastest selling tour of all time in the UK with Progress Live, beating the previous record set by their Circus Live Tour in 2009, won the BRIT Award for Best British Group, and were named as Amazon's top-selling music artist of all time. In 2012, the band were announced by Forbes as the fifth highest-earning music stars in the world. In the same year, the Official Charts Company revealed the biggest selling singles artists in British music chart history with Take That currently placed at 15th overall, making them the most successful boy band in UK chart history. - Wikipedia

That Wealdstone Raider thing actually made the top 5 then, christ almighty.
Woo for this being a genuine enduring hit! A few weeks before its release I'd expected a chart run along the lines of 7-22-38-OUT for some reason
A very jolly song indeed!
I really like 'These Days' now. It weirdly makes for a fantastic club banger and i always seem to hear it when out *.*
I first heard it as "star-crossed lovers". I can hear why people think she's singing starbucks lovers even though that makes no sense.
Howard Donald has aged well.
Take That...cant believe I am going to say this, this is such a guilty pleasure for me Glad it got number 1
Olly Murs getting a second top 5 post-album single When will 1D even get one?
Still loving These Days.
(i genuinely until now thought Taylor said "Starbucks lovers" too i thought it was quite a nice sentiment about meeting for innocent coffee or something mind blown again~)

Biography
The Wealdstone Raider (real name Gordon Hill) is an English Internet celebrity and meme, born and local in Wealdstone, London Borough of Harrow. A supporter of Wealdstone F.C., he came to attention due to a viral video of him heckling opposing supporters at Whitehawk F.C. in March 2013 with phrases such as "You want some?" and "You've got no fans". Hill claims to have been under the influence of alcohol during this heckling. - Wikipedia

LOVE THESE DAYS! Great to see it becoming a big hit for them
Good god, never saw this coming, it will bomb next week.
Sounds like Joe Pasquele
Give it them Wealdstone Raider *.* A pretty tacky and awful song but I can't help but love things like this.
('Up' beating 'Dear Darlin'' to now become Olly's highest peaking post-album single as well hooray. Well 'Dear Darlin'' is his best song so not hooray for that but hooray for him still setting new career bests in his fourth era ~)
Did Jameela just mispronounce "Wealdstone"?
Yes for at least one campaign single doing well!
Actually like this after a few listens, love a good novelty single (and for a good cause too!)
I know the proceeds of this went to charity and etc, but this is such a monstrosity. As I described in a thread this week, this is essentially an attempt to emulate a current dance track (like the Waze + Odyssey thing) by someone who can't produce music properly, and an old man with a lisp chanting all over it.
I wish lame campaigns like this wouldn't actually get off the ground.
Ok, it's for charity, which is great....but this is utter tripe!!!
This song is pretty terrible, but I'm quite glad it's charting as it's at least SOMETHING else happening in the Christmas chart. He seems a really nice, humble guy too. I quite like the verse where he shames celebrities as well
Why do people go insane at christmas and buy things that are 'funny'??
I guess the Xmas chart just wouldn't be right without at least one massive WTF moment in the top five. This guy looks exactly like the guy I was living with earlier this year
Hate the way voice over guy says five.
Wealdstone Raider!!!! This is by far my favourite chart moment ever. Legend.
I think part of why we mis-hear Taylor's lyric is that (in the real words) the emphasis is on the "of", which is a pretty un-natural place for it to bw.
G'won Wealdstone Raider ~ give it to them~
Can't begrudge this getting a Top 5 placement given that it's for charity. *Saying nice things because it's Christmas*
OMG I just realised I recognise this and it is awful and horrible
I like that is for charity but the song sounds like Joe Pasquele attempting to have a dance music career
PEOPLE ARE PAYING FOR THIS RUBBISH? :-o
You silly British people.
'kim k, i'll give it ya'
haha i'd seen the viral video but not heard the song in full yet, this is amazing!
I SAY GOT NO. YOU SAY FANS. GOT NO FANS GOT NO FANS.

Yay, a real song.
This is a great Olly track and good to see it top 5!
'Up' is so pleasant <3 glad it's done well (though peaking higher than 'Dear Darlin'' booo)
that Got No Fans thing well at least we get an 'interesting' entry in this not-so-interesting Christmas chart week, might as well embrace it~
This is only okay for me, but I have a bit of a soft spot for Demi so I'm pleased at its position.
My Personal Christmas Chart #1
I love Up so much, Olly and especially Demi sound so stunning on this
To all the haters, u got no fans! (Unlike Gordon Hill )
Meh at this new Olly song. Not a patch on Wrapped (Up). Rather ploddy and uninteresting.
Not normally a fan of either Murs or Lovato, but quite liking "Up".
OLLY MURS *in Peter Dickson Voice*
Up reminds me of something that I can't quite figure out
Actually does anyone know when the last time a completely novelty song got into the top 10/top 5? It's not frequent an occurence any more surely, most definitely not at Christmas.
This Olly Murs song is miles better than Wrapped Up, Demi actually sounds bearable/not screechy on it.

'Something I Need' sounded suitably dull from the clip at the start of the show. Hooray for another crap and soon to be forgotten Xmas #1, if only 'Uptown Funk' could have done it.

Would have been so hilarious if he was actually announced at number 2 (with him there and everything).
Don't like either song left but slightly prefer Ben's. If only OneRepublic had chart success with it...
In 6 months, it will be Ben Who Now?
I wish I'd have actually placed a bet on this, I was on the verge of doing it!
As I hadn't, I wish even more that 'Uptown Funk' had been #1 just for the ultimate trolling of Ben Haenow there.
Boooooooooooooooo!!!
So laboriously predictable
