Any reason why The Eighties Album has been removed from iTunes?

Posted by: Steve201 6th January 2017, 11:07 PM

Gwan Sundara Karma!!

Think You me at 6 are already off the top spot which is surprising!!

Posted by: ___∆___ 7th January 2017, 05:35 PM

Universal seem really torn between making money or trying to get the #1 album officially laugh.gif The Pete Tong album keeps switching price between £4.99, £9.99 and £11.99 - It was #1 at £4.99 they increased to £9.99 and it dropped to #4 then increased again to £11.99 before it switched back to £4.99 and has climbed to #2

Probably a licensing issue

But yet they've kept the fifties, sixties and seventies albums on there

But they have different songs on them? I'm guessing they didn't have the liscensing rights to 1 or more of the tracks on the 80s album so removed it until it's resolved or while they work on a re-issue with the offending track/s removed.

I think it could be to do with the Prince song which is on there

Yes at The XX cheer.gif

Their last album debuted at #1 with 58,266 copies - they probably only need 20,000 this time to make it so should be an easy #1 for them hopefully.

Didn't realise The XX sold so much in the first week last time though it may have been more hyped? Should be on for 25k at least this week!

It's back on iTunes but two tracks have been replaced:

Prince - "When Doves Cry" with Kajagoogoo - "Too Shy"
Bee Gees - "You Win Again" with Roberta Flack - "Back Together Again"

Yes - the Reviews have been good as well. I agree it should get an easy number 1 this week, the question is whether it will be able to get a second week at the top as well (as I don't see much competition next week).

Unless Zara Larsson releases that week, still no exact Release date for her Album although it was slated for January.

I do think it is between Pete Tong & La La Land OST for the overall #1 this week - Pete Tong Album is down to £4.99 on Amazon as well, I think his record company sense this week could be his best chance.

Haven't heard any of the re-interpretations, but since I love dance music with violin/strings, I definitely should see what they are like.

In the various artists ones 'I Love Trance' is still number 1, which is weird because there haven't been any trance top 40 hits around for the last 10 years or so. I am guessing it is older people who remember the trance era buying this one rather than the teenagers who usually buy music on iTunes. I suppose some of the tracks like 'You're Not Alone', 'Insomnia' and 'Sandstorm' are iconic and appeal to non trance fans. It's a great compilation album anyway.

I'm really not sure about his album, that music genre is not everyone's cup of tea, I maybe wrong.

I also think TT might get a week at #1, and get replaced by Ed Sheeran the week after, it really depends how well Ed Sheeran is selling into its third week.

I agree re TT, they should still be strong enough for a week - Q1 has been fairly strong for new Releases, James Blunt, Depeche Mode, Zara Larsson, Tinie Tempah & Paul Weller would probably challenge for the top spot if they had held back to Q2 or Q3 but they will probably all miss out.

There is a "British Breakthrough Act" Award tomorrow night at the Brits for which Stormzy is nominated, given the Release date of the Album wouldn't be surprised if he wins (he has competition from Anne-Marie, Blossoms, Rag 'N' Bone Man & Skepta).

Seven tracks on the Album but the first song is a sprawling 21 minutes long, does sound more like a Soundtrack than a regular Album.
The Ballad of Jimmy McCabe’ is the song with Paul "in more familiar territory".
I would have thought there is still enough for Paul Weller fans to secure a Top 10 placing.

Ed Sheeran will get the Mother's Day boost this week, I can see Drake entering at #3 behind Vera Lynn

Posted by: The Hit Parade 19th March 2017, 01:29 PM

And the Drake album is download-only isn't it? So that will concentrate its sales on downloads whereas Ed's are split over two download versions and the three physical formats.

Take That - Wonderland #4 & #30

Would be really surprised if they manage to overtake Ed - TT appeal to the Mothers Day buyers but I'm sure Ed will too and TT don't have a big single to help sell this album.

Yes, Take That still only at 3, doesn't look good for them overall although they will be strong with physical sales.

Sgt Pepper is coming up to it's 50th birthday and has been in News due to a potential Re-release ( again? )
As reported over the weekend the Beatles appear to be planning to put out an expanded edition of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band on June 1, the 50th anniversary of its original release. While the news has yet to be made official, we’ve learned that Ringo Starr has heard it and is thrilled with the sound smile.gif

Tracks from Pepper are being featured on BBC Breakfast all this week to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its recording. A day in the life was featured twice this morning. You can find it http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b08l264q/breakfast-03042017 on the BBC iPlayer at 1:52 and at 2:55.

#2 on Amazon too, behind Now 96. They've had some solid promo this week and they are Album of the Week on Radio 2, so I suspect they'll have #2 on lock officially. I'd be absolutely thrilled if they managed #1 but, realistically, I don't think they stand a chance at achieving 60k+ on Week 1.

Oasis on top with 'Time Flies... 1994-2009', it has been on the rise for a few weeks now but last night's Performance by Liam has obviously introduced Oasis to a new generation. Sets them up nicely for a reunion next year (after Noel and Liam's respective Albums are released this year).

It was on the red button last night, is available on iPlayer and highlights shown also - but I think you are right, looking more like Top 15.

I'd say low top 20 but I hope you're right

Do Imagine Dragons have any chance of getting number 1 or even 2?

Posted by: cqmerqn 24th June 2017, 02:39 PM

They won't be #1 but it's hard to tell without any mids as of yet. I think they'll do ~25K

Imagine Dragons still top since yesterday morning but unsurprisingly Radiohead top on Amazon Best Sellers after last night's set, suspect we may see a fair big of changeover this week in both charts.

Changeover all ready, 'Now That's What I Call Summer Party 2017' top on iTunes and Royal Blood top on Amazon Best Sellers.
Foo Fighters next to top both charts?

Another Glastonbury boost (and rare UK dates this week).

Foo Fighters have made it to top with their 'Greatest Hits'. Wonder whether it can stay there until Ed's set

Similar story to Lorde, it was on the red button last night and 45 minute show is available on iPlayer.

Posted by: timjimlee 26th June 2017, 08:28 AM

Ed possibly didn't get the boost we were all expecting, he has climbed to #2 but the Foo Fighters are remaining firm at the top (at the moment).

Six songs from Foo Fighters' Greatest Hits Album in the iTunes top 100 also suggests they had the biggest Glastonbury impact this weekend.

Hope Tyler, The Creator's new album can be a first top 15 if not top 10 for him after the last two just missed out. 'Who Dat Boy' is an absolute tune (and he's got some media attention for coming out of the closet on this album ;o)

Hybrid Theory could well be coming for a new peak, only got to #4 before! Hoping it can somehow get to #1. Although would also love Lana to get another #1.

I forgot just how low Ke$ha's second album charted here... drama.gif I guess because it was a December release more than anything else.

8-60-1 would be quite a strange trajectory for her albums (well, anywhere in the top 5 for this one would be really). I could see it happening though. 'Praying' seems to have been well-received and all, plus sales will obviously be very low. Think she'll be at least top 3 pretty easily, maybe behind Glen and/or Ed.

Shelby Lynne and Allison Moorer - Not Dark Yet
The Sherlocks - Live For The Moment
Steven Wilson - To The Bone
Thy Art Is Murder - Dear Desolation
Unkle - The Road: Part 1
Wildwood Kin – Turning Tides

A few new Top 10 entries to come from there, Steven Wilson and Everything Everything are highest on the Amazon charts with Neck Deep and Chase & Status doing best on iTunes (based on their 'bestselling pre-orders' page anyway). Can't see any of them managing particularly big sales so Ed will likely take the #1 again

Will be nice to see some really good sales at #1 again - Foo Fighters seem pretty certain to pass Silver certification in their first week. Same goes for The Killers the following week. After that, I imagine the main contenders for #1 will go Shania Twain -> Liam Gallagher -> P!nk -> Niall Horan -> Michael Ball & Alfie Boe -> Sam Smith -> Taylor Swift, so lots of high sales on the horizon.

Agree with most of those weeks except maybe Stereophonics beating Michael Ball & Alfie Boe on release week (over Christmas period M.B. & A.B. should get a week at #1 though).
Also not completely sure about Niall Horan making it to #1 Album, George Michael re-release should do well but indeed looks a week where lower Sales may be enough.

Yeah, I was a bit unsure who'd come out on top between Michael/Alfie and Stereophonics, but Stereophonics opened with 45k with their last album and I think, following the success of their collaboration last year, Michael/Alfie will receive good first week sales, as well as selling well over Christmas.

George Michael will do well but I can see Niall's album appealing to people of all ages which I think will give him the advantage.

Posted by: Mart!n 15th September 2017, 10:55 AM

I wouldn't be surprised Alexander Armstrong with the RPO album might do the business as well, he practically falls with Michael Buble / Michael Ball & Alfie Boe bracket, with the older generation picking Alexander's album up.

Joanne received a boost when the Netflix documentary premiered but has been climbing ever since. It's been gaining a lot of media attention this past week which is why it's still climbing. It didn't just suddenly jump to #15 out of nowhere today.

I'd be ecstatic if Betsy could go top 40, but we're probably looking at top 75 given how busy the week is. Honestly couldn't say if Shania or Wolf Alice will be number one, but Miley and Demi should be in the mix somewhere between #3 and #7, with Ed, Foo and Killers making up the numbers by the end of the week.

Yes, definitely shaping up to be one of the more unpredictable weeks, one of those weeks where the Albums doing well on iTunes are not at the very top of the Amazon Best Sellers.
I agree it is looking like a Shania/Wolf Alice 1-2 though. Benny Andersson's Album seems to have got a fair bit of momentum from his TV appearance this week and should make Top 10.

Hopefully Betsy can make it into the top 30, such an amazing album...

Posted by: liamk97 29th September 2017, 11:25 AM

Surprised Shania isn't doing better on Amazon but reaching the Top 3 on iTunes is great for her. Still think she's likely to be #1 officially as she had been performing the best on pre-orders and has had good Radio 2 support.

Potentially a few solid new entries to the Top 10 this week!

Wouldn't Demi/Miley have a edge on Shania/Wolf with streaming ?

Posted by: liamk97 29th September 2017, 12:51 PM

Probably, but I feel like the pure sales of Wolf Alice and Shania will be a lot better. I can't see Miley nor Demi receiving more than 2k from streams.

Posted by: danG 29th September 2017, 01:16 PM

Wolf Alice are the type of band to get quite a few week one album streams I think, Miley/Demi won't have that much of an advantage.

Posted by: 777666jason 29th September 2017, 04:32 PM

Miley and demi to both do well hopefully both go top 10

Posted by: Mart!n 30th September 2017, 09:04 AM

I think Shania has more chance of getting the #1 album, Wolf Alice don't have the fanbase like the Killers and The Foo Fighters I would imagine, I can't see them selling more than 38k, maybe I'm wrong. Foo Fighters will probably stick around inside the top 5 maybe, there was a special 2 hours of Jools Holland last night from midnight till 2 in the morning, saying that I don't think that would generate that much of viewers at that time of the night, Foo Fighters and Van Morrison were featured apparently.

Miley & Demi I would say towards the bottom end of the top 10, 6/7 and 7/8 ish. Michael Jackson's album could be anywhere I suppose, probably just miss out on a top 10 position.

Posted by: timjimlee 30th September 2017, 09:30 AM

Wolf Alice's Debut Album ('My Love Is Cool') opened at #2 in 2015 with Sales of 13,891, I think they should exceed that number this time and that will be enough to (at least) beat Ed's Sales. Shania's Sales are hard to predict given she hasn't released a Studio Album for 15 years but in the past she has been able to count on huge Album Sales, this time though the Reviews have not been too kind however she should still get enough Sales for #1 surely.

Posted by: The Hit Parade 30th September 2017, 12:21 PM

I think Wolf Alice can do it because they're likely to have more "urgent" buyers who'll want to grab the album in release week. Whilst Shania obviously has plenty of fans I reckon they were a relatively small set of her total audience and of course her huge sales were in the days when more people bought albums generally so it's very hard to guess what she'll do this time.

By the way, is there a deluxe of the Wolf Alice album? I saw two versions with different covers but no tracklisting in HMV.

Posted by: timjimlee 2nd October 2017, 09:53 PM

"Greatest Hits" by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers starting to climb at a fast rate after the awful news of Tom Petty's passing.
May be yet another new/re-entry in Top 20 overall this week (previously peaked at #18).
"Full Moon Fever" likely to show greatest increase in Sales as well.

Physically I am sure he is in Vancouver where he lives.

In terms of Album progress,

573. To be Loved - Michael Bublé
1049. Christmas (Deluxe Special Edition) - Michael Bublé

I am hoping that his Christmas Album gets overshadowed by Sia's Christmas Release this year.

Btw it is pleasing to see Dire Straits' 'Brothers In Arms' doing so well at the moment (currently #47), I suppose this is on the back of Mark Knopfler's appearance on The Killers Album?

Good luck with that lol, Michael Bublé is synonymous with Christmas now, I really don't see the popularity of his Christmas album fading anytime soon.

I'm surprised he hasn't put out a sequel yet, perhaps this or next year?

Posted by: Steve201 4th October 2017, 10:36 AM

He already re-released it with more songs the following year so can't see him releasing another one until later in his career. Will be interesting to see how it fades over the next 5-10 years!

Unfortunately last year showed an improvement in it's fortunes from previous year, the increasing influence of streaming on the Album market will probably guarantee a Top 10 peak each year for a few years yet!

2011 peaked at #1 (11 weeks)
2012 peaked at #2 (6 weeks)
2013 peaked at #7 (8 weeks)
2014 peaked at #7 (8 weeks)
2015 peaked at #12 (9 weeks)
2016 peaked at #6 (10 weeks)

Posted by: DANKENSTEIN 4th October 2017, 01:58 PM

His album streams in Christmas week will be insane. I would have predicted him to get about 5-7 songs in the chart if it weren't for the artist cap coming in. Last year he had three, 'It's Beginning To Look..' (#27), 'Santa Claus Is Coming..' (#98) and 'Holly Jolly Christmas' (#100)

Do we have a total? Mint Royale has tweeted that Liam's Sales are about a Quarter of Ed's first day Sales which were 232k so that would probably put Liam in the range 50k-58k ? Doubt Liam will make 100k but decent Sales nonetheless.

Posted by: timjimlee 27th October 2017, 08:58 AM

Hoping Stereophonics can get their seventh #1 Album overall this week. Ball & Boe Album may steal the top spot though especially as they have a TV special lined up on ITV on Sunday night.
I am surprised to see the Gregory Porter Album above B&B on iTunes and Amazon so far and had really overlooked that one, it looks like it might debut at #3.
If the top 3 are all new entries then it could spell the end of Ed Sheeran's run in Top 5 with George Michael and Pink likely to stay high.

I’ll put this here as there’s no Friday prediction thread as yet, but Minty has been tweeting:-

“There’s a lot of people buying the Sterophonics album this week. Who knew!”.

Someone asked is it more than Ball & Boe? Minty replied with “Lots More”.

When asked about Steps, his reply was “Possibly Top 5”.

In another tweet he said “It’s a very Christmas present sort of album chart this week“.

Posted by: Steve201 29th October 2017, 10:59 PM

Stereophonics will be on 18k or something tomorrow and Ball/Boe should overtake by Friday!

Sales for Stereophonics Album are consistent with previous Album so far. After TV Special Ball & Boe Album still behind Stereophonics on iTunes but on Amazon sales have been given a massive boost (currently #1 for regular edition and #5 for deluxe edition). Pricing for the 2 editions seems a bit high though (£11 for regular and £15.16 for deluxe CDs) and some fans may wait a few weeks to purchase, hope so.

#16 Niall Horan - Flicker.

so, basically, Harry will outsell Niall's third week for sure. Great. Finally, he did some great promo. Never understood why people thought Niall will have bigger album than Harry. hahahah. like... c'mon. It's obvious who is album's seller in 1D.

Omg wasn't expecting Kelsea to get that high on iTunes! <3

Posted by: smidsy101 3rd November 2017, 04:26 PM

I too am (pleasantly) surprised that Kelsea is doing as well as she is, I thought she'd be around the 40's by the point.

I'm intrigued to see how Maroon 5 will do over the course of the week. The singles have done fairly well but the album overall is very bland and they don't really seem to have a huge fanbase. 'V' debuted at #4 with 16,917 in September 2014, but went on to sell over 200,000. I'd be surprised if this held up anywhere near as well.

Emeli Sande's new EP at #31. It has 6 tracks and a run time of 26:30 so should be chart eligible, though the fact it's download only should stop it from debuting anywhere near the top 40

Posted by: Steve201 3rd November 2017, 08:15 PM

Thought Sam would have been no1&2!

Sam Smith still number 1 is a bit of a Surprise given the prominent banner for 'reputation', likely to be overtaken any time soon I guess.

Also surprising to see Shed Seven at #4, their first Studio Album in 16 years. Other new entries in Top 10 are by Artists that are not exactly prolific, Evanescence (#3), Tears For Fears (#7) and The Corrs (#8).

Posted by: UltraReputation 10th November 2017, 08:06 AM

Yep reputation is number one now *.*

3. Evanescence - Synthesis
4. Shed Seven - Instant Pleasures
7. Tears For Fears - Rule the World: The Greatest Hits

Seems a bit odd that the latest Elvis (Christmas) compilation is not even in the Top 1500, may be it was made unavailable for a while in readiness for the Deluxe Edition Release on the 24th.
Somehow it is still on course for a Top 100 placing this week though (presumably on CD sales and strong streaming) - held on last week (just) at #100.

Posted by: 777666jason 10th November 2017, 02:40 PM

In guessing some of those 800k are the preorders because you can't download it till its released (auto download) preordered or not and earlier reports were at 400k preorders earlier in the week

Posted by: danVember 10th November 2017, 02:43 PM

that 800k figure probably includes all the pre-order sales.

So in the absence of an Eminem release (so far) this week is shaping up as wide open in the Album chart, couldn't call it at the moment.

Will be good to see 'In Winter' by Katie Melua continue to rise again this year, #161 on iTunes seems a bit low at this point but selling more as a physical.

Yes, I agree - it does seem a bit odd though there is no Major International Release this week given it is surely one of the biggest Release weeks of the year (for Albums).

Incidentally I am assuming Morrissey's Album is eligible for the Charts this week? There was a massive spike in Sales for the Album during the period when Amazon customers could pre-order to receive exclusive access to tickets for the UK tour before they went on general sale to the public. I guess this wouldn't affect eligibility but still Morrissey will struggle to push 25k Sales.
Paloma's Album a little harder to call, seems to be slightly underperforming but 30k may be enough this week. If it can't make that total then likely to be a return to top for someone.

Nice boost after Strictly appearance - I assume they performed 'Everybody Wants To Rule the World' given it is up to #54 on iTunes chart.

Taylor's Album seems to be holding up well at #2, enough to stay top overall this week I wonder.

Not sure if Noel's album is going to break 100k like I was initially expecting, not if Sam and Taylor's albums couldn't make it and Liam's wasn't that far over the mark (his album felt much more anticipated). Looking forward to what the album has to offer.

Posted by: Brébino 24th November 2017, 01:28 AM

Noel/Little Mix for the top 2 this week maybe? Although idk if this LM rerelease is really publicised enough to get that high (what with it not really having a proper lead single yet). Matt Terry possibly scraping the top 10 if he's lucky I guess. André Rieu back again *. the first time since 2011 that he didn't have any other chart entries during the year aside from the 'big' Q4 release though, poor guy.

I'd be surprised if Noel breaks 100k this time but hopefully he'll not be too far off.

Posted by: timjimlee 24th November 2017, 10:27 AM

Likely to be a few boosts this week for Albums reduced for Black Friday. Just got the CD of "Twelve Tales Of Christmas" from Tom Chaplin on Amazon for £4.99, it was only released last week so an absolute bargain. Sia's Christmas Album £7.99 so will hopefully stabilize in the Official Chart before rising in the run-in to Christmas.

Posted by: Bjork 24th November 2017, 11:20 AM

I really don't get why LM didn't have a proper single to push the re-issue, they could have grabbed another hit (even a #1) and
also pushed the album sales further, wasted opportunity

Posted by: Steve201 25th November 2017, 08:37 AM

U2's last conventionally released Studio Album (ie not the debacle with Songs Of Innocence) opened in February 2009 with Sales of 157,926 , I know it was a while ago but I will be surprised if they don't get at least half of that number , Sam Smith to stay at #2 for me but will undoubtedly get a big boost this week to push it above 50k.

Yeh you could be right, hopefully like as I don't mind them although people seem not to like them these days - Bono especillay!

50k would be good for them. They have a evening with the BBC on the 17th too so could boost them!!

Posted by: timjimlee 2nd December 2017, 11:38 AM

It is true that U2's Album is not holding up too great, out of Top 20 Amazon Best Sellers all ready and knocked off top spot on iTunes unsurprisingly by 'Now That's What I Call Christmas'. They may need some promo before the 17th...

Posted by: ChristmasEve201 2nd December 2017, 11:47 AM

Yeh I think my 40k prediction may be right or too much. Preorders will be big but it'll slow through the week!

P!nk seems to be the main winner after the weekend Promo although she was on BBC and ITV, she is currently at #3 (with 'Beautiful Trauma') behind the two Now Albums.

Midge Ure's 'Orchestrated' seems to be holding up a lot better than expected, still at #11 is a surprise to me.

NERD heading for a criminally low debut!!

Posted by: timjimlee 20th December 2017, 10:36 AM

The Critics Faves (based on End Of Year Lists) ready to improve their position as we approach NYE and into New Year:

93. Lorde - Melodrama
163. LCD Soundsystem - American Dream
235. Kendrick Lamar - DAMN.
250. The War On Drugs - A Deeper Understanding
320. The National - Sleep Well Beast
336. SZA - Ctrl
466. St. Vincent - MASSEDUCATION

Decent peaks for most of these but criminally under-performed in terms of sales.
Oh - and couldn't even see Björk's Utopia in Top 1000, not sure how that one could be so overlooked given it was an improvement on her previous Album.

62. U2 - Songs Of Experience
78. U2 - U218 Singles (Deluxe Version)

Yes, a decent 32k and sales will probably be enough for a place in Top 100 of Y/E Sales (although last year #100 needed 71.5k, I suppose that will be less this year though).

Posted by: ChristmasEve201 21st December 2017, 11:35 AM

Taylor being £6.99 is a good tactic in order to keep her album selling. I have a feeling she'll get a good gift card effect alongside Little Mix as well who I imagine will rise on the iTunes charts come Christmas Day.
