BuzzJack Music Forum _ Dua Lipa _ The GRAMMYs • Discussion Thread

Posted by: Juan Carlos 🌴 Oct 22 2017, 10:26 PM

It has been revealed the submissions that Dua Lipa has at the GRAMMYs next year. Which ones do you think she has more chances to get a nomination?

• Best New Artist
• "New Rules": Record of the Year, (Song of the Year), Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Music Video
• "Scared To Be Lonely": Record of the Year, (Song of the Year), Best Dance Recording, Best Music Video
• "No Lie": Record of the Year, (Song of the Year), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Music Video
• "My Love": Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Music Video
Dua Lipa (Deluxe): Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album

(*) The Song of the Year category is in brackets and I assume the reason of this is because she's not listed as a songwriter in any of these songs, so she wouldn't receive the award in case any of them win.

Posted by: Liаm Oct 22 2017, 10:28 PM

As much I adore her, I very much doubt she'll get any nominations, maybe STBL for dance recording? In an ideal world New Rules would win everything it's eligible for.

That's the one I also think she has more chances to get a nomination to be honest.

Besides that, depending of how "New Rules" keeps doing in the US, I would say that a nomination in the Best Pop Solo Performance category could happen, although a nomination in the Best Music Video category seems more concrete in my opinion. Also, the Best New Artist category will be tough and I hope she gets nominated, but I'm not holding my breath on it. The same goes for Best Pop Vocal Album.

The submissions that she got for the GRAMMYs next year have been revealed and they are listed below.

• Best New Artist
• "IDGAF": Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Music Video
• "New Rules" (Live): Record of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance
• "Electricity": Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Dance Recording, Best Music Video
• "One Kiss": Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Dance Recording, Best Music Video

Posted by: Theo. Oct 18 2018, 06:20 PM

She's a shoe in for a Best New Artist nomination I would have thought! The competition will be tough though with Cardi and Post Malone also in contention.

I'm not sure about the other categories, maybe "One Kiss" for Best Dance Recording?

Oh that's even better then! I can only think of Camila Cabello and Ella Mai as big breakthrough artists in the US in the last year - who else has been submitted for that category?

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ Oct 18 2018, 10:33 PM

Camila Cabello is also ineligible in this category.

So far, there is a list of the artists who are eligible and ineligible in this http://hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=313854 (the submissions are leaking https://www.goldderby.com/forum/music/2019-grammy-predictions-part-9/) and Dua is listed as one of the front-runners, so she may earn a nomination or (possibly) win, which will be amazing if this happens.

Posted by: Wreatheo Dec 7 2018, 07:00 PM

Dua got nommed for Best New Artist and Best Dance Recording for "Electricity". Her Insta story just after she received the news is everything! ❤ I really think she's got Best New Artist on lock! I hope they ask her to perform

Posted by: jakewild Dec 7 2018, 08:10 PM

yer surely best new artist is under her belt

Posted by: Joeflake Dec 10 2018, 04:17 PM

I really hope she gets best artist, although I hope things don't go like they did for Meghan after she won! Some day that award is cursed.

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ Feb 6 2019, 03:33 PM

She's going to perform at the GRAMMYs with St. Vincent this Sunday. No information about which song(s) they are going to perform yet.

Posted by: liamk97 Feb 6 2019, 03:36 PM

Omg so here for this!

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ Feb 10 2019, 11:11 PM

She has won her first GRAMMY award for "Electricity" in the Best Dance Recording category with Silk City.

GRAMMY WINNER DUA LIPA! *.*

Very shocked and pleased that she managed to take this award, the category wasn't particularly strong but it's still a huge achievement! As much as I'd love her to win Best New Artist too, with the recent track record of winners going straight to a sophomore slump, I wouldn't be too bothered if she loses that one

Posted by: Liаm Feb 11 2019, 04:20 AM

TWO TIME Grammy winner Dua Lipa, she just got Best New Artist too!! Shame they had to cut her speech off to adverts bc they spent so much time on Diana Ross' upcoming birthday and J-Lo for some reason singing Motown.

Let's just hope she doesn't do an Alessia Cara with the Best New Artist curse now laugh.gif

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ Feb 11 2019, 04:26 AM

So proud of her right now! wub.gif

Posted by: La Vie En Code Feb 11 2019, 04:51 AM

Can we just talk about how freaking BADASS she looked with St Vincent?

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ Feb 11 2019, 05:04 AM

I'm still pissed that they cut her BNA speech though~

Posted by: Joe. Feb 11 2019, 03:17 PM

yaaaaaaaaas congrats Dua!

Posted by: Theonix Feb 11 2019, 04:19 PM

The performance with St Vincent was everything! It brought a whole new life into One Kiss and Dua sounded great on Masseduction! They both looked stunning too *.*

I'm so pleased she won Best New Artist too! I hope she gets her second album out sooner rather than later though going by the recent success rate of its winners

Too early to know the submissions of this year, but the campaign has already began with the FYC posters.

Posted by: jlj Sep 21 2020, 11:09 AM

Too early to tell yet but I’m potentially seeing Ariana 2020 vibes for Dua at next years GRAMMYs.

I think she’ll get a fair few nominations but end up going home empty handed.

Posted by: Scene Sep 22 2020, 02:23 PM

I have high hopes and quite high expectations.

Posted by: Future Nostalgia Sep 22 2020, 05:36 PM

Confirmed submissions so far:

• "Don't Start Now": Song of the Year, Record of the Year
Future Nostalgia: Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album

Posted by: Juan Carlos Sep 24 2020, 03:37 AM

Interesting to see all of these submissions, although I'm wondering why "Don't Start Now" wasn't submitted to Best Pop Solo Performance too because I think this could have a shot in that category as well. Either way, I actually think she could get nominated in all of these categories, but it's going to be really hard if she could pull a win in any of these, being Best Pop Vocal Album the one I guess she has the most chances to be honest.

As a side note, I admire what Warner is doing to promote her to the GRAMMY voting members. I want one of these flexi-discs.

It was actually submitted in this category too. Either way, this is the updated GRAMMY submissions.

Future Nostalgia: Album of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical
• "Don't Start Now": Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Music Video
• "Un Día (One Day)": Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
• "Hallucinate": Best Dance Recording

Posted by: RobBot Oct 20 2020, 09:17 AM

Not them submitting the worst video of the era (not including the Hallucinate comic) for consideration.

That's right. sad.gif

"Physical" should have been their best bet in my opinion, but if Warner didn't want to go with that because the song wasn't promoted properly in the US, they should have gone with "Break My Heart" instead. I guess they opted with "Don't Start Now" because they were choosing this track in the other categories, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it will be automatically picked. As a consequence, Warner should have taken a risk.

They haven't actually confirmed anyone yet if you look on the official website. It just says coming soon!

It would be very surprising if she didn't perform considering she's up for all the big awards.

I’m not mad AT ALL at a victory lap for Don’t Start Now- its an award show I don’t expect anything else haha!!!

Would love a left-field choice though- Love Again?

Give us Levitating, Physical & DSN medley pls

Posted by: k👠th Mar 7 2021, 08:06 PM

A hint!?

There's rumors on Twitter that she's performing Love Again too. A medley would be such a great showcase but I won't be mad if it's only Don't Start Now either

Posted by: Botchia Mar 7 2021, 08:43 PM

DSN will surely be thrown in. Imagine showing up and not performing the song that's nominated for the 2 big awards!

Posted by: jAddy! Mar 7 2021, 09:29 PM

DSN transitioning to Love Again is something I can already hear it in my head dance.gif

Posted by: Juan Carlos Mar 8 2021, 12:28 AM

I'm also imagining a medley of "Don't Start Now" and "Love Again", but I think the former is a certain choice.

Posted by: k👠th Mar 10 2021, 07:48 AM

Posted by: Scene Mar 10 2021, 04:37 PM

I can imagine Dua starting with Break My Heart, then going into a bit of Levitating before the grand finale of Don't Start Now.

Some Physical recognition would be amazing though. Surely it deserves US single status at some point!

CBS Interview:

The interview has had a nice impact on US iTunes:

#7 (+29) Future Nostalgia
#20 (+244) Dua Lipa (the album's first time in the top 20 apparently!)

#7 (+8) Don't Start Now
#17 (+5) Levitating
#43 (+25) We're Good
#79 (+70) New Rules
#93 (+71) Levitating

I try not to take these sites into too much meaning - they pretty much, across the board, expected The Weeknd to sweep this years Grammy's and he didn't get nominated.

I'm hoping & praying she can take the ones for Don't Start Now cos I do still feel Taylor has the album ones sorted.

Posted by: George.keh Mar 11 2021, 01:46 AM

yeah i’m fairly sure it’s Taylor’s for AOTY even if I prefer both Dua’s and HAIM’s records but I expect Dua to pick up one of her noms for DSN

No Levitating submissions?!
No. The version featuring DaBaby wasn't submitted, although it was eligible, unlike the album version, which wasn't because it was part of Future Nostalgia, an already GRAMMY winning album. Another possibility was to release a live version of the song (like "New Rules" on the complete edition of her self-titled album) and submit that, but her team didn't do that either.

Regarding the omission of the track, the following was said on https://variety.com/2021/music/news/grammy-ballot-burning-questions-bts-justin-bieber-1235099402/, which also mentions that "Demeanor" was submitted to Record of the Year.

QUOTE
Q: Where's Dua Lipa's "Levitating," the biggest pop song of the year?

A: Nowhere. It should have been eligible, even though it was off an album that was up for multiple awards last year — because the single had its major impact this year, and because it was a new remix, with DaBaby as an added featured artist. But Lipa presumably could only have submitted the DaBaby, and that would have been a lot to ask of voters, to pretend that the persona-non-grata rapper really wasn't on it. Most likely Lipa was saving voters having to agonize over choosing between their love for her and their dread of giving the thumbs-up to a guy still considered toxic by much of the industry for his homophobic comments.

Lipa does have one song on the ballot for record of the year — but it's "Demeanor," the Pop Smoke song on which she is a featured artist.

Posted by: Addy! Nov 16 2021, 05:58 PM

that's understandable...if only none of the Dababy shenanigans happened I think it would have stand a chance for either ROTY and SOTY award!!!

Posted by: Juan Carlos Nov 16 2021, 07:08 PM

That's for sure. Before the unfortunate comments from DaBaby, "Levitating" was in the running to be submitted (and, possibly, to be nominated) in the Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance categories.
