Delta has recorded a new album and taking it on a tour of Australia in 2021.
No idea if the album will be released around the same tome but Keep Climbing is the lead single from the album!
Keep climbing is a poor lead single. Hopefully better stuff to come!
I don't like Keep Climbing. Hope her new album will have some great powerful pop songs.
new single "Paralyzed" out tonight
Paralyzed is just beautiful.
Thanks i will listen later.
I’ve ordered the CD single from her Australian store. It includes keep climbing and another new track.
I never understood why Delta kind of vanished from the UK market after two successful albums, anybody knows why? Did her third album "Delta" just fail to chart in the UK because of poor sales or was it never officially released back then?
‘Paralyzed’. Wow. Incredible
Paralysed is definately a lot better than keep climbing.
Not sure if anyone saw Lorraine this morning but there was a hint of a uk tour following next year .... eeek!
She always gave a stunning performance of paralyzed on the voice finale on the weekend, how this song isn’t a global #1 I have no idea
https://youtu.be/1b-7lOrAn94
I cannot believe more people are not talking about 'Paralyzed'... it's utterly breathtaking..
Yeah, it's my favourite single of hers since Enough on the last album, it's stunning and so anthemic. Shame she's a 'legacy act' in Aus, so will probably never dent the charts there again. It was only five years since Wings was No.1 too.
I adore Paralyzed! More than Keep Climbing for sure, it's a stunner
Delta has released the story behind “Paralyzed” and she came through so strong 💙
I saw that! It's so sad!
Think the album is called 'Bridge over Troubled Dreams'.
Back in 84 is out today and it’s quite good!
Another great song, and it's just a b-side too Super excited for the album.
Back in 84 is quite the tune! My favourite thing I've heard from her for a long time!
Yes, another great song, the b-side to Paralyzed on the physical single so not sure if it will be on the album.
Reminds me of Anna Bergendahl, it's amazing Delta hasn't represented Australia at Eurovision yet, practically any of her recent songs could give them a top 10 finish.
New single Solid Gold is out now
Has anyone received their physical copy of paralysed?
‘Solid Gold’ is so good
Mine still hasn’t arrived from the official store.
I LOVE solid gold!
My CD came today! (and tshirt!)
Back In 84 is SOOOOO GOOOOOD. I like Solid Gold too and hope both make the "album" (if there is one), but I don't understand why Back In 84 is not the single. Instant Delta classic.
it is strange... 'back in 84' felt like a promo single more than a bside
Solid Gold is not great, sounds cheap. Other 2 are excellent. Is she still big in Australia? Views on YouTube are terrible.
Not sure where to put this but Delta has gone all out and added pretty much everything to Apple Music, Spotify etc.
I Don’t Care EP
Live Album
EP’s for old singles with all the b-sides (including the 2 previous tracks on,y available in Japan. Flawed and Never Fades Away)
Yes! I can finally have a copy of You and You Alone and Stay!
I downloaded the I Don’t Care EP, in case it’s whipped off iTunes again at some point. The rest I have on various imported CD singles plus I have the Japan album and the live album but it’s great to have them available to stream and add to playlists etc!
The only official single missing by the looks of it is Happy Xmas (War Is Over) which was the b-side to Not Me, Not I here and a double a-side with Predictable in Australia (and a #1 there). Maybe it’s a rights issue?
This is amazing news! I've downloaded a few bits and bobs to replace lower quality MP3s I've had for a while
Recently been starting to fill in the gaps in my Delta CD collection - I nabbed I Don't Care on CD single for ~£40 which felt like a bargain, not having the stickers knocked a good £50 off the price also bought the alternative I Can't Break It to My Heart CD single at what looked like a pretty reasonable price for what seems like a rare item. Diving in at the deep end before I buy some of the cheaper Aussie-only singles
Wow, nice purchase! Have never found the I Don’t Care single for less than around £80. It’s a big gap in my collection. I did finally order the Paralyzed single recently, along with the Olivia DVD as I was ordering the new Kate Miller-Heidke album from there anyway. Just waiting for them to arrive...
So are ‘Alcohol’ and ‘No Communication’ the only two songs not available?
They were both pre-order exclusives for Child of the Universe back in 2012.
Their both on UK Spotify?
The only one that seems unavailable is 'Happy Xmas (War Is Over)'.
What’s ‘Four Short Words’ from? I don’t recall it originally being apart of Out of the Blue EP.
Apparently it was a promotional track for Pepsi, I'm not sure it ever got a physical release but I definitely remember hearing it somewhere at the time. Some of the tracklistings have been revised, Flawed and Never Fades Away are now on the Too Little Too Late EP.
The True North version of Throw It Away, which was going to lead the cancelled Throw It Away single here in 2004 is also missing, and seems to have been erased from existence. It was only ever available to download from the ill-fated My Coke Music at the time.
Not sure what's going on with Happy Xmas (War Is Over), maybe licensing but everyone else seems to have covers of it available to buy and stream
she's releasing a xmas song on Friday with (apparently) the album to follow... 'Only Santa Knows'.
Scratch that... the whole albums out now.
Looking forward to the new album but I hope it’s not a Christmas themed album.
Track Listing:
Carol of the Bells
Only Santa Knows
The Little Drummer Boy
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
River
Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
White Christmas
Santa Claus Is Coming to Town
Deck the Halls
Grown-Up Christmas List
Silent Night (Delta Goodrem & Gurrumul)
Merry Christmas to You (Delta Goodrem & Olivia Newton-John)
It’s a Christmas album and available to preorder on sanity or her store. Out tomorrow!
https://deltagoodremshopau.com/collections/featured/products/only-santa-knows-cd
Just listened, what a lovely and enjoyable surprise! Love the new version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas and Only Santa Knows is a strong original. Her cover of River is my other highlight. Surprised there’s no re-recording of Happy Xmas (War Is Over), especially as it wasn’t released in the b-sides upload last week.
I’m disappointed by this release. Most of the songs are covers of hits recorded many times by other artists. If you’re going to do a Christmas album, then why not use less well known Christmas songs rather than the same ones as everybody else. This release doesn’t really interest me and will be her first album which I don’t support.
I really like 'Rockin Around The Christmas Tree'
Delta's upcoming sixth album is called Bridge Over Troubled Dreams and her new single is "Billionaire", which will be released on March 19.
Great. Impatient to ear new music from her.
Finally. Can’t wait for this
wish she'd let people know if the tour is going ahead...
Looking forward to a proper new album!
The power that Rich and I had in summoning this 😂😂
Teasers have begun.
she's announcing something at midnight in Oz.
Rumour is 'Billionaire' is coming on Friday?
I honestly thought SG would be chopped
Great to hear all those singles will be on the album.
So Let It Rain remains with no parent album and Back In ‘84 stays as just a b-side.
Delta revealed on her social media that the album and the book will be out simultaneously that day.
I used to be a big Delta fan but all of the singles from this album have left me totally cold.
Billionaire is very different. I like it but it’s more like Imelda May/KT Tunstall - both of who I like - than anything she has ever done before. I expected a whole album of piano ballads but this and Solid Gold suggest a lot more 70s radio rock type influence.
My immediate thought was Imelda May too
I’m not as excited about this album as her previous ones. The songs so far haven’t been as strong. They aren’t awful but aren’t as catchy.
Im unsure about this. Need to listen to the tracks released so far but Wings.. is by far my favourite album by her and a major classic. It’s a fantastic album i adore
11 songs is a bit of a disappointment, knowing she's probs recorded about 30
new promo single 'all of my friends'... it s beautiful... very reminisant
Definitely very beautiful and relateable. Billionaire hasn't ended up being something I return to a lot, but this will have a lot of replayability.
The new song is pretty average. It’s decent but doesn’t stand out enough. I’m not feeling much excitement for the new album based on what I’ve heard so far!
Also same @ Billionaire, I can appreciate it but it's not something that draws me back.
All of My Friends is gorgeous though! Much more classic Delta.
Hopefully a 7th Top 2 in Aussie for Delta or a 5th Number 1 album, huge shame she gets zero success in the UK anymore.
It’s cute
i thought i really liked 'billionaire' but i'm just not drawn back, like 'solid gold'
Ive ordered the book, hopefully it comes before or on Friday.
Locking forward to the album, I haven’t been disappointed with a studio album by Delta yet.
This is already out to stream and buy! Just listening now <333 Not sure why it's out before the start of the sales week, but I guess it's never going to go top 100 regardless so it's nice that she gets the exposure of being No.2 on iTunes (where she currently sits).
I've ordered the book https://coles-books.co.uk/bridge-over-troubled-dreams-by-delta-goodrem-signed-edition and it's due in the next few days. Have pre-ordered the album from Amazon UK (showing as 4th June release currently) so hopefully it will turn up in the not too distant future, the Christmas album took ages to arrive. I can't afford the import charges that I was hit with by Sanity last time when I ordered Kate Miller-Heidke's album.
Just had a listen through and these are my initial thoughts of the new tracks:
Everyone's Famous - love the melody, chord progression and use of backing vocals on this, could really imagine this being on Mistaken Identity, it's gorgeous 9.5/10
Dear Elton - This is clever, a tribute to Elton John that takes little bits of his most famous lyrics and melodies to craft a new song, similar to what Alcazar did on Thank You, their tribute to ABBA. This could have turned out tacky but comes across more like a respectful love letter to one of Delta's idols and her voice sounds great on this. 8.75/10
Kill Them With Kindness - really like the gospel choir on this, it's instantly catchy and has a big chorus 9/10
Crash - Nice, and good use of the gospel backing again, but musically a little more subtle. Sounds like a grower 8.5/10
The Power - More gospel choir, harks back a bit to the Vanessa Amorosi song from her debut also called The Power. It's another good song and melody but maybe feels a little bit cheesy compared to the rest of the album 8/10
Play - gorgeous closer, really beautiful. So cinematic with the talking clips and the stunning strings 9.5/10
Looking forward to getting to know these songs more, especially Everyone's Famous, Play and Kill Them With Kindness. The other three definitely have their charms too though, although Dear Elton isn't lyrically something I connect to much (as I've never been huge on Elton) even though it's very impressive musically, so not sure how much of a replay factor that will have.
The singles also sound great on here. Keep Climbing remains beautiful and works well as an opener, with the album title in the lyrics. Paralyzed remains stunning and my favourite single of the era, and All Of My Friends is also beautiful and relateable and has a lot of replay value. Solid Gold is a great switch up in tempo after the first two songs and works really well in the wider context of the album. Billionaire remains a bit of an anomaly for me sadly, not a bad track by any means but it feels like it was written for Imelda May and accidentally ended up on here, it also doesn't fit that well between Dear Elton and Paralyzed. I think I'd have been inclined to leave it off and have Back In 84 on here instead, next to Solid Gold and then put Dear Elton and Paralyzed together.
Very interested to read her book and explantations for every song's inspiration and place on the album. It's yet another great, great album from Delta overall, I don't know how she keeps the quality up (though maybe releasing only every five years or so will do that for your quality control ).
Will be hopefully giving this a listen today, my book has been dispatched.
Thanks for sharing gooddelta.
Even more keen to give this a listen later today now.
So I’ve just finished listening to this and I think it’ll be a grower, not completely sold on first listen. Perhaps the book will help with that.
Paralyzed is still one of the best songs she’s recorded.
'dear elton' is sitting well with me... the rest is gonna require a long walk to listen.
I have to say... I'm pretty disappointed with the album will give it another go though over the weekend.
The Power is an absolute bop!
Everybody’s Famous, Dear Elton and Play are all fairly pleasant
I think it's a really strong album and I appreciate how tight it is tracklist-wise. Everyone's Famous, Crash and The Power are my favourites of the newies I think, though I like them all! Crash gives me Jesus, Take the Wheel vibes and The Power feels very strongly inspired by Edge of Seventeen (which of course Delta's done her own version of before!).
Paralyzed is solidifying itself as one of her best songs too I think Billionaire is the weakest here - I quite enjoy it when I listen but it's not one that pulls me in for repeated plays.
My copy of the book arrived today. Will have to have a good look trough it and listen to the album again.
Really liking Dear Elton, liking this a lot more than I expected.
#1 debut in Australia.
That’s fantastic news shame her hit making days are over but it’s great she’s still relevant enough to top the album chart.
Yeah she's definitely more of an album and tour seller now. Radio won't play her anymore unfortunately.
Yeah, I think her singles chart success is well gone.
It’s good she can still sell albums though. Hopefully it’s not another 5 year wait for the next.
Does anyone know how much it sold in Australia first week?
Started listening to this. It sounds ok but certainly not as good as her other albums but better than I expected!
She's on Sunday Brunch this weekend
Drops from 1 to 9 on the ARIA Albums Chart.
My JB Hi-Fi preorder arrived today! It was signed and came with a cute wee notebook that I was not expecting. When I picked the parcel up I was so confused why it was so heavy 🤣
I notice the album has got good reviews but it’s definately not my favourite. It’s very short to start with. The songs are ok but just not as strong as much of her previous material.
Up one to #8 this week in Australia.
This album is really good as a whole I think
I don't there's particularly anything that would scream hit single, love Dear Elton, Everyone's Famous and All of My Friends.
yeah i do wonder what going forward the plan is with this album... obviously it's v, short and the tour isn't due for another 4 months (if it even happens). So I'm suspecting a re-release?
I’d be surprised if we got a reissue unless they add a video of the tour. She’s never reissued an album with bonus tracks before apart from DVD material. The album is very short though!
The big keepers outside the singles for me have definitely been Everyone’s Famous and Play, they’re gorgeous <3
I’m sure The Power or another of the clap along gospel type songs will be the next single but for me the ballads are the easy standout moments of this album. She’s had far better uptempos on her recent albums but the ballads are some of my favourites of hers since probably even the Mistaken Identity era.
i would love 'play' as a single but i'm not sure it'd work? 'Everybodys Famous' seems to be getting a little nudge on her socials?
I couldn’t imagine her pushing either as singles, as lovely as they are. Play in particular doesn’t seem commercial.
The Power seems to be very popular in the fan community, it would be about 7th/8th in my ranking of the album so I’m not overly fussed at it being a single but I think it will be, and maybe the last from the era as she’s released so many already.
'The Power' is very much like 'The River' for me... wouldn't really understand why its pushed as a single.
Dropped from 8 to 24 on the albums charts last week.
She's just performed 'Billionaire', 'The Power', 'Kill Them With Kindess' and 'Play' on her Bunkerdown... besides 'Play' (which I adore btw), they were elevated so much live!
Delta has announced a one-off gig in London on 12th Oct *.*
Tickets go on sale Friday at 10am, looks like they're just a shade under £40 including all booking fees.
https://www.livenation.co.uk/show/1389489/delta-goodrem/london/2022-10-12/en
I believe this is her first ever standalone full gig in the UK? In 2015 she did a fantastic secret show for about 100 people that was for winners of a competition on Twitter, and then performed at G-A-Y a few days later, but I can't recall anything else.
The fact that she's in the country randomly for one gig makes me wonder if she might pop up at Robbie's concerts along the way, maybe to perform Kids together as they did in Australia? I can but dream as I have a ticket to the first night in London.
f***
Ok flight prices aren’t awful. I wonder if I could get permission to work from the London office on the weds and thurs. Logistically it’s not simple as I’m flying to Oslo Friday the 14th for Gabrielle/Veronica Maggio
Fingers crossed for you!
It's the day before the magazine I work for goes to press, naturally, I recall in 2015 she actually performed on the day and it was a nightmare to get out as we sometimes don't wrap up until 9pm. So I'll have to be super organised to get everything done in advance! But no doubt she won't rock up again here until the 2030s.
P.s. that Norway gig duo sounds like a dream too *.*
Managed to arrange access to the London office! Will fight for a ticket on Friday and then book me some flights. Will be so hype to finally see Delta live after all of these years.
am no flying in from Berlin not to have an emotional breakdown to Believe again so I hope to Christ that’s on the set list
If anyone is worth hyper organisation it’s Delta! I wish you luck with that so we can party to Wings
(And yes! I’m so hype. Would have liked to see Gabrielle solo but the date worked really nicely so I grabbed a nose bleed seat and will await Jag Kommer)
Ohhh didn’t realise it was such a small venue!
That setlist looks pretty good, excited to see Sitting On Top Of The World there as I properly love it
Had already booked to see Natalie Imbruglia that night but already made plans to travel to a different tour date of hers so I can see Delta NEED to get a ticket, been waiting so long to see her
The Neighbours icons need to spread their dates out. Maybe that'll make it easier to get tickets to Delta, I'd imagine there might be at least a bit of crossover here.
I’m hoping the super late notice will also reduce the fight for tickets
The German gov took less of my bonus than I was expecting so mama had some budget to play with
I’m thinking the setlist may change from that. I’d expect Delta to do some or most of her UK singles.
This is on o2 priority btw.
Got tickets this AM
I’m going to see Delta 🥹
Woohoo, me too, see you there!
I can't believe she's actually doing a proper paid gig of her own here. I love that she still has so much goodwill here despite not having a hit for 20 years. I guess the near 1m sales of the Innocent Eyes album here probably helped.
aside from the show at G-A-Y in 2015 - has Delta ever actually done a solo show here?
She did a small 45-ish minute gig in 2015, a few days before G-A-Y, for about 100 winners of a competition, in a little art gallery type place in West London. I was very lucky to get to go to that and met and had a chat/photo with her.
Other than that, I don't believe she has.
I am extremely hype for this. As I was saying to Rich, I now have two bucket list gigs in a week so this is gonna be such an incredible week. I am really excited and looking forward to it all
Also, finally the FSR Ashvia meet up!
Yessss, it's long overdue!
Seems like the tickets sold out in seconds, going by lots of people on Facebook and Twitter. A lot of people had an issue with the Live Nation site it seems. So I'm not sure if she'll announce another date or not, but will probably make her more likely to schedule a proper tour here at some point.
Got my ticket
I meant during her promotion for Innocent Eyes... maybe the one nighters weren't a thing back then.
Just mad to think she's never done a headline show here (or any really).
She was diagnosed 8 days after the UK release of the album…
Aaah fab Joseph!
Great to hear that some of you got tickets!
Delta's added a second date at the same venue on Sat 15th October, for anybody who didn't manage to get a ticket for next Weds and wants to.
Tickets go on pre-sale tomorrow and general on Friday at 10am.
how fab
she seems to be here at the moment recording a new album and i'm wondering if she's filming for a uk tv show? Maybe Masked Singer if it's recording at the moment?
Could be, I think it usually does film around this time of year. Big stars of the 00s very often appear on that so it wouldn't surprise me really.
Interested that she's been at Abbey Road, this could be her first released/potentially promoted album here since Mistaken Identity perhaps? Her profile seems to be on the up here again - the Neighbours reminder a couple of months back helped a little - so I think she could get some Radio 2 support for the lead single, and maybe a top 20 album a la Louise.
the lack of r2 coverage has been odd for her recent release. especially considering she did tv promo here.
I hope its not an Innocent Eyes 20. The last anniversary was not that good.
Looks like a second show has been announced/added.
So I didn't need to faff with the Natalie Imbruglia tickets for the 12th then going to save myself the bother of a trip elsewhere and nab a ticket to the 2nd Delta night while selling a ticket for the first night, should I get lucky tomorrow morning.
Im fully invested in the first night so I’ll be sticking with that one, but I wouldn’t be able to make the Saturday anyway as I’m in Oslo so I am quite glad the midweek one was announced first!!
Berlin announced now 🙃
Imma have to work out who the pre-sale is with because yes I will buy an O2 SIM card if I have to to get a ticket
its a really interesting time to be a delta fan as she's deffo turned into a fan-only artist. Like there's a lot of unreleased tracks (especially during lockdown) that her and her fans seem really in tune about and she's also incredibly invested in her own back collection as in album tracks and unreleased songs... more so than any other artist.
I wouldn't be surprised at this point if she starts doing a Bsides tour.
As for the new music i'm super intrigued. i have my theory about her doing Masked Singer and maybe new music will launch around that, which would be great as it'll be 3 years in a row we've had Delta music
Slightly off topic but could re do a Delta game for the Pop forum? whether it's a Singles Rate or Survivor? I'm probably not the best person to host it now due to work commitments, but I'd happily take part.
I'd love a survivor game perhaps, not often those happen in the pop forum so it could be something different! I don't mind hosting unless someone else would like to?
Well Delta didn’t show up at the Robbie gig (I was just at it), so unless she’s at other dates that throws more weight behind her London trip being for The Masked Singer. Unless it’s literally just to record new music at Abbey Road, which is reason enough!
Well she did hint at doing many more shows. Being on the masked singer would fit with that
i wonder what the setlist is going to look like... obviously the london show it a lot more intimate
tonight is the night!!
I am excited, tired having been up almost 13 hours already, but excited. Will mainline coffee until it gives me the shakes 😂
Hope everyone going tonight enjoys it. Looking forward to seeing what the setlist is.
Have an amazing time tonight guys!! I'm going Saturday after all, sold my ticket for tonight so I don't have to make an overnight trip to attend Natalie Imbruglia's tour.
May I please request that setlist spoilers are put in spoiler tags? want to read everyone's reviews but maintain some surprise for Sat!!
She did a free meet and greet after the gig. We met DELTA. She is absolutely adorable and lovely and so sweet
No setlist spoilers but she did a bunker down session in the middle of the gig and took audience requests for the entire section.
Such and incredible gig. On such a high
Sure I won’t give any spoilers until after you’ve been too Joseph but it was absolutely sensational. Hope you enjoyed Natalie too!
The 2015 gigs were great but this was something else! To see a full scale show from her FINALLY, was life enhancing. And yes, we met her afterwards and she was so lovely. Such a fantastic crowd too, everyone was elated to see her!
So happy to hear of the positive experiences!
Looking forward to seeing a set list whenever people are happy to share it.
I am SO glad you guys had a great night!! I've seen loads of the M&G photos via a Delta fan group on Facebook (in addition to yours of course Phil!!) and they look amazing, Delta looks so happy to be there. If she does the same on Saturday I'll be thrilled, didn't even consider that she might do a M&G after the show!
The gig itself sounds phenomenal too, I am so excited bring on Saturday!!! (and Natalie was amazing thank you Rich! I'll post a proper review in her thread soon but much like Delta, she's another artist I've grown up listening to so it was incredible to finally see her live!)
Yes the m&g seemed to not be public knowledge though there were hundreds of people queuing.
The setlist was essentially the Australian tour with Bunkerdown being ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, ‘Heart Hypnotic’, ‘Believe Again’, ‘Fragile’, ‘You & You Again’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted’ & ‘The River’. She ended this segment with ‘Together we are One’. The only really obvious ommitts from the show were ‘Not Me Not I’ & ‘I Cant Break It To My Heart’.
Absolutely fantastic show. She is entertaining & charasmatic. She also suggested she’ll be back in Feb which ties in with my Masked Singer theory
The show was absolutely fantastic.
I'd gone with an Australian friend who couldn't actually believe he was seeing her in such a small venue as she plays big venues in Oz.
Thanks gooddelta, just checked it out.
Im still Processing it all tbh. Still can’t really believe that I saw Delta and then I met her too.
It didn’t really hit me at the time and it was only as I sat on the bed in the hotel when it kinda like started to dawn on me that yeah we had just done that and that in that process finally got to rock out to Sitting On Top Of The World and to the flawless Wings and that she also did a full version of Together We Are One in bunkerdown and then also in that session we got The River as a verse/chorus and on the same basis we got Believe Again which is my absolute ultimate favourite Delta song and a moment was had. When I met her after I had mentioned that I was coming again and she’s like ooooh on Saturday too that’s fab and I was like nah love Berlin, I live there and she asked if there was anything I wanted to hear in Berlin and dead seriously replied Believe Again and she was like ok, believe again! Aaaaaaaaaaah I would die if she did it in full but I can accept another verse/chorus bunkerdown rendition
I’ve not done any meet and greets but I’ve met others after shows and most recently Dagny. Delta was, like Dagny, super warm and lovely and willing to spend heaps of time with everyone. Though the venue for Dagny was nicer about it and didn’t try and rush it so she was there like 2 hours. What particularly struck me about Delta was even tho the venue was trying to rush it like she was a kebab shop at 3am, every single person got greeted with a giant smile and a huge, Delta initiated, hug. She was just so genuinely happy to see people and it really rubbed off. One of my closest friends commented how happy I look in my photo with her and I genuinely was (and still am!!!) but part of that was just the infectious energy from her.
Really hope she does it in Berlin too. Imma bring along my Delta CD (with its Aussie price tags!!) and WOTW for her to sign (she was armed with a Sharpie last night ready even tho the venue was like „it’s pics only no signing and keep it short and sweet“)
most venues have a public curfew of 11pm but an unwritten 12pm curfew for after parties.
ps. i got asked to write a review for the show:
https://essentiallypop.com/epop/2022/10/delta-dawn-lafayette-london-plays-host-to-australian-star-delta-goodrem/
Great review!! Captured the essence of the night so well
I hadn’t actually got round to listening to the new album yet 😅 but I’ve been giving the tracks she performed a spin today and rocking out
I never really liked The Power but its really stuck with me. Still no hope for The River. Billionaire & Solid Gold also came alive live.
Also thank you for the lovely comments. Its v. rare on here
Solid Gold was SO good live. She does the Fleetwood Mac style much better than she does the Imelda May rockabilly style for me (Billionaire). It was quite fun but I'm convinced now that that song just isn't for me
sorry added spoiler tag. it's very interesting to see her say she's just getting started... she deffo feels the most in tune with her fans more than any other artist i've seen and i really could see her doing a bsides tour at some point.
Definitely. She was getting requests for some very deep cuts, like 2004 b-sides. And she'd probably be open to playing them (as long as she could remember them)!
But as Phil mentioned to me yesterday, when you write the songs yourself at a piano you probably maintain quite a close connection to them, compared to like Steps - just using them as an example because people often beg them to play random old b-sides, who probably went into the studio once to record an extra song for a single and then never thought about it again.
Feel like I have so much to say but for the moment I'll just copy what I've said on Instagram - incredible night and I'm in awe of Delta more than ever
Amazing Joseph, so happy for you.
Curiously, what is the album you got signed?
Amazing Joseph, I came out feeling exactly the same way on Weds. Takes a while to get down from the high and back to reality
Just astonishing that these gigs finally happened! And reminds you why she should have always been - and should still be - a global superstar and not confined to Australian success.
From the sounds of it you got a slightly different set with a couple of additions I would have loved to hear! Makes me curious what I will get in Berlin on Weds.
Glad you had a great night and also got the M&G as well!! That was so special
I went again last night & she added The River as a full performance & did I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Dancing with a broken heart, Brave Face, Feline, In My Own Time, Play & Hopelessly Devoted to You as her Bunkerdown songs & finishes with Together We Are One which she sees as her end of lockdown song
I also met her which was a joy and “a long time waiting” as according to her
Wow, would have loved to have seen In My Own Time, it’s one of my faves, did anyone manage to get a video of it?
Gutted I couldn’t make it to last night’s but sounds like she’ll be back soon, hopefully for a deep cuts tour
Aaaaah so lovely. Y’all got some great bunkerdown tracks
Really excited to see what she pulls out the bag in Berlin now. So nice that everyone gets something a little different
Amazing photo Dan!!
I was mostly successful in avoiding setlist spoilers apart from a couple of accidental glances at the Delta FB group! This made for some really lovely surprises - Together We Are One in particular, that's a huge favourite of mine and I totally wasn't expecting it for some reason. It was such a strong setlist and it ticked every box - loads of Delta classics to satisfy us long-term fans who haven't heard them live before, and a great selection from the new album too.
LOVED the Bunker Down section!! Looking at Wednesday's setlist, I think that had a better selection, but no complaints at mine either - a snippet of Brave Face was way out of my expectations but it's my favourite non-single, and it was great to hear a bit of Dancing With a Broken Heart too. What an inspired idea, and Delta seemed to be loving every single moment, not just of Bunker Down but of the entire show. It's a cliché to say it but there really was SO much love in the room, even the deepest cuts had everyone singing along.
The meet and greet situation after felt a bit confusing initially. I was seated upstairs and SPRINTED down after to get as far forward in the queue as possible, which was a decent success to be fair as I was less than halfway along, but after about 20 minutes of waiting, the queue was led outside with no explanation until we reached the exit, where we were told the M&G would happen outside. From there it was about an hour wait for me until I met Delta! One lady was there who asked me my name just before I met Delta, for the purpose of introducing me by my name (never seen this before but how wonderfully thoughtful!) and another lady was taking the photos, with a light to ensure everyone had the best possible lighting for their pictures. Delta gave me a gigantic hug when I met her, she asked me where I'd come from and said she loved my hair - mentioning how all of her band also rock the long hair! She signed my Mistaken Identity album and asked me to spell my name to ensure she got it right (leading to me momentarily forgetting how to spell my own name x). She really made sure to have a chat with me as well as the photo, simply incredible and one of the best experiences of my whole life. I keep pinching myself, I can't believe it happened!!
Lovely recollection Joseph, so glad it was everything you’d hoped for. She really is a wonderful person, they say never meet your idols but everybody should meet Delta, so joy replenishing
It’s so nice she greets fans with a big smile and a hug and asks them a couple of questions so it’s not just a quick hi, smile and in and out that feels like a contractual obligation. She clearly does this as she loves it.
Great pic too Dan, I always forget how tall she is!
Clearly they learned from getting kicked out of the venue on night one and just took it outside from the start this time 😂
I really loved that in spite of the venue her team were really really considerate of the fans and in ensuring they had an incredible M&G experience. Which considering it was free is amazing. They really went above and beyond. And Delta literally ignored the venue staff hurrying it along at all times 😂
If anything the whole experience made me more of a fan than I was.
And yeah Joseph, you could just see in her face how genuinely the love was and how touched she was by the reaction of the crowd for the entire gig
I can't remember if i wrote this or not... so apologies for repeating myself but before i met her, security said to her there was still over 100 people and the venue was going to need to close (even though it was outside the venue) and she said... i'll just meet everyone around the corner then. She very much wanted to meet everyone.
One thing that amazes me about Delta is there are a group of really loyal fans, who travelled to Oz for the tours in the past and yet she treats all her fans at the same level, no matter how often she sees them and i really respect that. A lot of artists favourtise fans and she doesn't seem to.
Berlin tonight 🥰 probably lost 20 spaces in the queue looking for parking 😂 but I’ll go direct to the stage while everyone head for the bar
Electric Storm in bunkerdown 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
The Germans can’t queue for shit tho so I’m just staying well back coz I’m far too British for this shit
The hot goss direct from Matt himself. New material has been written, will be recorded in Q4 and they’ll be back early next year touring again with the new music
I’m so happy everyone that went to the London and Berlin shows had such a great time. It’s been a long time coming for you all. You deserved the best experience.
I will gush more when ive actually processed it all but I met Delta again tonight and got to have a proper chat with her and she signed a bunch of stuff for me (Delta and Wings over the wild CDs, BOTD notepad, and tonight’s setlist - which will be framed along with the tickets 🤩 and a print of my photos with her). She was again so bloody lovely and she spent a heap of time with everyone in the venue making everyone feel seen and heard and loved. She remembered me from London 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 and quite sincerely thanked me for singing along tonight and for coming to both shows. She’s just lovely. She also loved that my Delta album still has the Aussie price tag on it from when I bought it in Brisbane 🤣
I’m still processing last week tbh
Her band are also total Sweethearts. Was chatting with them when waiting for the meet and greet and she has such a nice crew around her.
What was the Berlin venue like in comparrison to Londons?
A third of the size! Just 200 capacity, smaller stage and a lot lower roof! Delta was holding onto the light rigging while standing on top of the piano at one point 😂
Was bloody hot inside.
wow! 200 people! thats tiny... i'm presuming her team were equating sales of the recent album by country when deciding to book venues?
They were saying that they were really really REALLY unsure on if there was still any market at all in Europe because of how long it has been since we were served anything at all and so Lafayette was just a tester and they were really overwhelmed with the response that everything else was just really quickly thrown together because it caught them a little by surprise almost. They weren’t quite expecting such a strong reaction and so they’re then in a position, having taken a „ah f*** it why not“ gamble on London in the first place to really just take what they could get at short notice while also not wanting to hedge their bets that they’d get an equally as strong reaction on the continent.
But the 200 seats sold out in presale because live nation f***ed up and forgot to put a limit on the number of presale tix!
Did say they reckoned it was the smallest ticketed gig she’s ever done and will probably now ever do. We’re not getting arenas, at least not yet, but she’s playing much bigger venues next time. But they have all really loved these special small intimate shows because they just don’t do these kind of shows in Australia. We got to be part of something special
yeah i'm pals with a lot of the Australian audiences and their very jealous of the venues we've been getting..
I think she could probably do Shepherds Bush Empire? I mean artists like KT Tunstall and Kate Nash play their all the time. They just don't open the level 3 if it doesnt sell.
Reckon she could comfortably sell that out. She did 1200 tickets in London in total and they sold out instantly and plenty of people were disappointed they couldn’t get tickets
Give it a couple of years and a little exposure and she could sell out the Apollo I reckon
Or somewhere like Koko in Camden, that's about 1,200.
In Aus, a 200 or even 600 capacity intimate concert would probably see a complete bunfight for probably very pricey tickets! I love seeing artists bringing their superstar A-game in huge arenas, but it's so special to get the opportunity to see them up close and personal too.
The only prob is i know quite a lot of the same people went to both London shows so it makes it seem difficult to gage how many. I think either way Shepherds Bush is viable. She deffo has a casual audience there i think.
A fortnight ago I really didn’t care much for this entire era. Still hadn’t got round to listening to the album and had a bit of a meh approach to the singles
Now I am absolutely completely addicted to Solid Gold, I find myself randomly singing The Power and Keep Climbing as well. The whole era has just clicked and I cannot get enough of it
Keep Climbing is deffo one thats come to me… Solid Gold & The Power were super fun live
The Power has been the one like that for me, always found it overrated and now it sounds amazing to me. Dear Elton too to a lesser extent although I always liked that, I think I appreciate it a lot more lyrically now.
I’m still confused why the album doesnt include so many sne did during lockdown? That Window somg, that dance moves one among others?
Now the tour has helped The Power and Dear Elton to click massively with me, the only songs on this album I don't love are Billionaire and Kill Them With Kindness, the latter is decent but something doesn't fully click. Crash is lyrically moving but not one I go back to a whole lot.
I think more than any of her other albums it's proven a big grower over a much longer period of time.
Shes just announced an Innocent Eyes 20 Years Later tour for Australia.
Hope she brings it to the UK, that’s my favourite album of all time, there are some album tracks I’d love to see live and in full.
Whole album plus b-sides as the setlist? I hope so!
Probably my favourite album from her too.
well she's doing something here in Feb... (my guess is Masked Singer) but i presume she'll do the Innocent Eyes tour in Aus and then maybe bring it worldwide? I don't really know...
If i'm honest, this vault era tours get a bit tiresome tbh. I'd rather new music.
Delta's apparently now annual Christmas show, Christmas With Delta, has been uploaded to YouTube! Always good fun, with lots of random guest stars:
