Who do you think will win Wimbledon when it starts on Monday?

Will you be watching this?

Live coverage on BBC and Eurosport.

Posted by: King Rollo 27th June 2018, 10:10 AM

I'll watch it when it isn't clashing with the football.

I think Roger Federer will win the mens and Petra Kvitová the womens.

Posted by: Dobbo 27th June 2018, 12:11 PM

Federer & Muguruza.

Posted by: Mack. 27th June 2018, 02:46 PM

Williams should not have been seeded. Her time out of the game was choice and it's beyond unfair for her to take that place away from someone who deserves it after playing all year. Poor choice by Wimbledon. Clijsters and Azarenka weren't seeded when they had children.

Andy Murray has withdrawn from Wimbledon on the eve of the tournament, saying it is "too soon" following his return from hip surgery.

Posted by: Dobbo 1st July 2018, 09:40 PM

A good call, never had a prayer of a chance of winning so not worth risking if he's not yet 100%

Plus we got a new kid on the block to cheer on now anyway!

I don't think Edmund is that good on grass to be honest. If anything, I would expect Norrie to be the last British male standing.

Posted by: Mack. 2nd July 2018, 02:20 PM

Sloane Stephens out already in straight sets.

Posted by: Mack. 3rd July 2018, 10:10 AM

Fifth seed Elina Svitolina another big casualty on the opening day from the women's draw.

Posted by: Mack. 3rd July 2018, 03:12 PM

Both Johanna Konta and Kyle Edmund are through to the second round in straight sets.

Posted by: Mack. 4th July 2018, 12:44 PM

Both Kvitova and Sharapova went out in the first round.

Posted by: Mack. 4th July 2018, 01:39 PM

Yes. Roger Federer is a popular player, but BBC please show us some actual tennis.

Posted by: King Rollo 4th July 2018, 04:53 PM

No.2 seed Caroline Wozniacki has lost to Ekaterina Makarova. A great final set,Wozniacki fighting back from 1-5 to 5-5 but losing it 5-7. Makarova needed 6 match points before she finally won.

Posted by: Mack. 4th July 2018, 07:50 PM

Wish they would put Wawrinka - Fabbiano on centre court under the roof.

Posted by: Mack. 5th July 2018, 02:48 PM

Cilic is out of Wimbledon in the second round after losing in five sets.

Posted by: Mack. 5th July 2018, 02:52 PM

All coming through nicely for Rafa. Decent third round opponent. Will be interesting to see where Di Minaur's game is at against the best.

Posted by: Dobbo 5th July 2018, 08:36 PM

Just goes to show what a mockery the women's seeds are with 6 of the top 8 out ALREADY.

Posted by: Mack. 6th July 2018, 11:26 AM

Could be another Top10 seed going out with Madison Keys currently 7-5 2-0 down against Rodina.

Posted by: Mack. 6th July 2018, 11:55 AM

Keys now back to leading 5-4 in the second set.

Posted by: Mack. 6th July 2018, 04:08 PM

Two more Top10 seeds out as Keys and Venus Williams exit.

Posted by: Mack. 7th July 2018, 07:32 PM

Never mind Kyle, better luck at the US Open.

Hope serena wins!!

Posted by: Steve201 8th July 2018, 11:41 AM

And Roger in the men's AGAIN!

QUOTE(Steve201 @ Jul 8 2018, 12:40 PM) *
Hope serena wins!!

There's literally no one else left in the women's draw?! I can't believe she is so close to winning another Slam less than a year after giving birth!

I would love another Federer v Djokovic men's final. They definitely need to sort out the scheduling though with the World Cup final on the same day.

Posted by: Mack. 8th July 2018, 12:09 PM

9 out of the Top10 seeds out in the women's draw. Serena overwhelming favourite to win now.

Posted by: Dobbo 8th July 2018, 12:12 PM

I want Ostapenko to win now, still love her do or die style!

Posted by: Mack. 9th July 2018, 04:46 PM

No Top10 seeds left in the women's draw.

Federer comfortably through to the quarters without dropping a set.

Posted by: Dobbo 9th July 2018, 09:15 PM

The King wants to remain on his throne cool2.gif

Surprised Nadal hasn't bottled it early for once.

Posted by: Mack. 9th July 2018, 09:32 PM

First time since 2011 that Nadal has made the quarters.

Posted by: Mack. 10th July 2018, 12:10 PM

Fifth seed Juan Martin del Potro and Gilles Simon of France whose fourth round tie will get back underway on court two.

Del Potro took the first two sets but Simon hit back to win the third before play was suspended on Monday night.

Posted by: Mack. 10th July 2018, 12:38 PM

I noticed the BBC had a little segment (interview) with all the ladies quarter finalists on the BBC show earlier, with one exception. Camila Giorgi. Interesting.

Posted by: Mack. 10th July 2018, 02:03 PM

Kerber and Ostapenko both through to the semi-finals in straight sets and will face each other in the semis.

Posted by: Mack. 10th July 2018, 03:16 PM

Massive set for Girogi as it goes to a decider between her and Serena.

Posted by: Mack. 10th July 2018, 03:22 PM

And it goes into a deciding set between Bertens and Gorges as well.

Posted by: Mack. 10th July 2018, 03:41 PM

Serena now within brink of victory as she leads 5-3 in the deciding set.

Posted by: Mack. 10th July 2018, 03:47 PM

And through to her 11th Wimbledon semi final goes Serena winning 3-6 6-3 6-4.

Posted by: King Rollo 10th July 2018, 03:59 PM

Camila Giorgi is my favourite female player so it was good to see her get to a Grand Slam quarter final for the first time. Even after winning the first set,I didn't think she could actually beat Serena. She gave a good account of herself,at least.

Regarding the BBC missing her out of the interviews, whenever I've seen her interviewed after a match, she barely says two words so there might not have been anything they could use or maybe she declined an interview (if she is allowed to do that). I don't think her English is very good.

Posted by: Mack. 11th July 2018, 08:21 AM

Can see potentially being a close match between Nadal and Del Potro.

Posted by: Mack. 11th July 2018, 12:14 PM

This time Federer on Court 1 for the first time since 2015 for his match against Kevin Anderson.

Posted by: Mack. 11th July 2018, 12:37 PM

Djokovic-Nishikori looking so far that this could be the match of the championship.

Posted by: Mack. 11th July 2018, 12:58 PM

First time Roger Federer lost a service game since last year’s semi-final against Tomas Berdych - ending his run of consecutive service games at 85 with Kevin Anderson breaking his serve at the start of the second set.

Posted by: Mack. 11th July 2018, 01:44 PM

Now one set to all between Djokovic and Nishikori whilst Federer leads Anderson by two sets to love.

Posted by: Mack. 11th July 2018, 02:16 PM

Now two sets to one to Djokovic as he took that third set, 6-2.

Posted by: Mack. 11th July 2018, 02:30 PM

Federer had match point in the third set but it is Anderson that takes the third set. Into a fourth now.

Posted by: Mack. 11th July 2018, 02:49 PM

And through to the semis goes Novak Djokovic winning in 4 sets against Nishikori.

Posted by: Oliver 11th July 2018, 04:33 PM

Federer has lost!

Posted by: Dobbo 11th July 2018, 11:24 PM

Genuinely cannot believe that^ and in such circumstances! Looked like an absolutely bonkers match.

Posted by: Steve201 12th July 2018, 12:55 AM

Gutted he's out, wonder how long he will go on?!

Posted by: Mack. 12th July 2018, 11:05 AM

Men's Semi-Final Line Up:

Rafael Nadal v Novak Djokovic
Kevin Anderson v John Isner

Posted by: Mack. 12th July 2018, 11:31 AM

Lightning struck twice for Federer with losing in a Wimbledon quarter-final from being two sets up like with Tsonga in 2011 and Anderson this year.

Posted by: Steve201 12th July 2018, 01:20 PM

Will he come back at 37?

Posted by: Mack. 12th July 2018, 09:56 PM

QUOTE(Steve201 @ Jul 12 2018, 02:20 PM) *
Will he come back at 37?

Probably, if he's fit.

It will be a Serena v Kerber final as they both won their matches in straight sets.

Posted by: Mack. 13th July 2018, 09:48 AM

Could be another five setter for Nadal against Djokovic today.

Posted by: Mack. 13th July 2018, 04:48 PM

9-8 now in the 5th set between Isner and Anderson, great match this has been.

19-18 now to Isner. No sign of a winner.

Posted by: dandy* 13th July 2018, 06:42 PM

This has been an astonishing match, feel sorry for Isner just losing a game... will laugh if Anderson doesn't hold his serve!

Posted by: Dobbo 13th July 2018, 07:21 PM

What a herculean effort from Anderson! And just 2 days after going the distance (and more) against Fed - incredible tournament for him no matter what happens in the final.

As gutting as it is for Isner, to be fair he's been on the other side of a marathon before back in 2010! Although this was his shot at reaching a Slam final.

Posted by: Mack. 13th July 2018, 07:43 PM

Should there be a fifth set tiebreak introduced at Wimbledon?

Posted by: Dobbo 13th July 2018, 07:49 PM

I don't think so, it works perfectly fine for the most part, it's just super-rare occasions like this where the argument gets brought up. I much prefer a 2 set clear winner as it's more fairer than a tie-break which is not much different to a penalty shootout in football. To win on sets in the fifth, you've really earned it!

Posted by: Mack. 13th July 2018, 08:02 PM

I don't think there should be that semi-final was an absolute epic. Shame that 'Marathon Man' John Isner just missed out. Both him and Kevin absolute warriors.

Posted by: Mack. 14th July 2018, 08:35 AM

Nadal and Djokovic will resume at 1pm on Centre Court under the roof, delaying the women's final.

Posted by: Mack. 14th July 2018, 01:53 PM

I think majority of the crowd are routing for Nadal.

Posted by: Iz 14th July 2018, 02:15 PM

These have been some insane men’s semis, clearly all of the 4 deserve to be here. Can’t calll the current match at all.

also go Djoko pls

Posted by: Mack. 14th July 2018, 02:17 PM

8-7 now to Djokovic in the final set after 5 hours played.

Posted by: Mack. 14th July 2018, 02:36 PM

And through to the final goes Djokovic 10-8 against Nadal. Great to see Novak back to his best.

Posted by: Mack. 14th July 2018, 03:14 PM

I think it will be Serena winning this in straight sets.

Posted by: King Rollo 14th July 2018, 03:18 PM

Both mens' semis were outstanding. I enjoyed the second one more as the rallies were longer.

Posted by: Iz 14th July 2018, 04:26 PM

Delighted for Kerber, she was overdue a win after that loss to Serena two years ago, and she handled herself so well to be able to beat Serena in straight sets, fantastic play.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 14th July 2018, 05:00 PM

Really wonderful play from Kerber there, I'm glad for her. A shame for Serena but it was probably too much to ask for her on her first Wimbledon back after giving birth. Never wise to write her off!

Thanks a lot Mack.

You're more than welcome.

I think it will be a straight sets win for Djokovic against Anderson.

Posted by: Mack. 15th July 2018, 02:17 PM

Unfortunately looking one-sided with Djokovic leading 6-2 5-1 at the moment.

Posted by: King Rollo 15th July 2018, 06:08 PM

Djokovic won in straight sets. I was watching the football but will catch the highlights at 11pm.

Barry Davies has just finished commentating on the mixed doubles final, his final ever commentary. I've grew up listening to him and John Motson covering the football for the BBC. End of an era.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 15th July 2018, 08:13 PM

It was never looking even a bit close in the bit I watched. I know it's only 'what ifs' at this point, but maybe had Anderson not played up to twenty six sets the other day, it might have been something to write home about? I think they need to introduce a tiebreak to the Men's, apparently it's there in the Women's and other tournaments so it's not like it's too much breaking of tradition.

Posted by: King Rollo 15th July 2018, 09:26 PM

The womens at Wimbledon doesn't have a tie-break in the final set either but they don't have long final sets because it's easier for them to break serve.

I agree they should restrict the final set now. Maybe let them play to 12-12 and then have a tie-break. That way,it's the equivalent of one more set.

End of an commentating era. Him and Motty two of the well known commentators on the BBC.

If this occured more frequently in regards to a long set then it should be looked at.

Posted by: Steve201 16th July 2018, 01:14 PM

Watched the documentary of Barry Davies lastnyt, such a nice man!

Did he come back to do one more commentary or has he been doing Wimbledon up to now each year?9

Posted by: King Rollo 16th July 2018, 01:50 PM

I'm not sure if he did Wimbledon last year but he's been there most years.
