Seems a bit odd to me considering it already got to #8 and spent nine weeks in the top 40, but it was decent so wouldn't mind it returning I guess.

The same can be said for Location which has never left the Top 40 since the album release and wasn’t a single straight away

For what it's worth, that was already playlisted by radio before it became a single wasn't it?

Correct, "Streatham" was technically the second single but I don't think R1 even playlisted that; they went straight to "Location".

"Disaster" is a good next single choice I'd say, wonder if it'll return to the T40 though.

If they release a video for Disaster it could easily go back into the top 40, and top 20 if they give it a remix with Aitch or someone too.

Was rooting for slowthai to win it but Dave is a worthy winner too, great for him! (This might be a good excuse for me to finally get around to hearing the rest of the album after loving all 4 of the singles laugh.gif will try and do that soon xxx)

Oh wow I had no idea this had been nominated let alone the prize was tonight laugh.gif

Deserved though. Seriously think that out of all of the crap that has clogged up the charts this past year, Dave has been the most deserving of the reflected success and is the shining light of fresh UK talent. This album is great.

Finally listened to this now, wowwww at 'Lesley', what a gripping song. Doesn't waste a single second of the 11 minute runtime. This fully deserves the Mercury for that song (and 'Black') alone. The whole album is consistently great throughout though, 'Psycho' and 'Screwface Capital' also stood out as highlights from the album tracks.

I think the comparison to Kendrick earlier in the thread is pretty on point, especially as the songs of his that are hits don't really fully reflect how great a lyricist he is. I do still love 'Location' but it's easily the shallowest and most mainstream song on the whole album and not really representative of it at all, I so wish it was 'Black' or 'Streatham' (or even 'Disaster') that was the breakout huge hit from the album.

Was Black not the first single pushed pre album? Then they moved quickly to Location which as you say is there for a top 40 chart run - doesn't represent the album well at all as you say.

Yeah, it was the first single but only scraped the top 40 and got quickly overshadowed by the other 3 hits from the album. It doesn't really sound like a hit single in fairness but it was still a very disappointing performance.

Another re-entry in the Top 40 for 'Location' thanks to 'Psychodrama' winning the Mercury Prize.

'Papercuts' which entered the chart at #15. A non-album single from him.

What do you make of this?

All of these songs sound too similar with the "wobbly bassline" or whatever the hell people want to categorise songs of that ilk as. Not one of his I'd ever return to.

Is this meant to be Funky Friday (Part 3) then from Dave? Sounding similar to 'Funky Friday'.
