As this looks set to enter the top this week I thought I'd start a thread for it.

This is not the first viral hit from 19 year old rapper Niko B (real name Tom Austin). Under the name 'Niko Bellic' his track 'Mary Berry' made some traction last year. He's named after a character on GTA and has previously toured as the opening act for NSG.

The song's more dance-y than Mary Berry but is still dreadful. I hope he doesn't get any more hits.

it has a nice instrumental but that's not enough to save it from the bad rapping. no.gif

hopefully it's just one of those random week 1 things and it doesn't become a proper hit.

Trying to be like Aitch and Stormzy mixed in one. The rapping is awful. Niko Bellic sounds like someone who would play for Croatia in football.

I don't think the rapping is bad. I like this song, its sort of a mix between Rizzle Kicks and The Streets in style I think.

This is no different to Dapper Laughs or Chris & Kem as I mentioned in the Chart Show thread so shouldn't be taken anymore seriously imo.

The success of this song just confuses me. The lyrics mostly sound like in-jokes or references to something else, I assumed at first that this guy had an existing fanbase as a YouTuber or other general social media 'influencer' before this but that doesn't seem to be the case, Google only brings up references to his one previous 'viral song', but that song which came out 9 months ago has already had its YouTube views total surpassed by this?? I'd certainly never heard of it before. x

I don't hate it, the hook is pretty catchy and the weird off-kilter humour is sort of amusing in a 'WTF am I listening to' kind of way, I just don't get how it's become so popular seemingly out of nowhere. laugh.gif

I read an article about him that said he already had a popular Instagram account and his own clothing brand. He was also the opening act for NSG which seems like a weird choice for them.
