Can we have another foreign language one next? I LIVE FOR THIS SHIT <3

Posted by: LexC 9th January 2014, 07:36 PM

Yes Pavel! I suggested that back in the other thread.

Posted by: Cal 5th July 2014, 07:18 PM

May as well start posting in here to boost activity. biggrin.gif I'm in the process of updating the Spin-Off CRC so it should hopefully be up-to-date soon enough. The only major hurdle if the Stats part - any tips? tongue.gif Anything to do with numbers just freaks me out so bear with me on that one! Also, Tirren shall be hosting Reloaded 3 either this weekend or next week, and after that we'll be getting back into spin-offs again so what are you interested in? Dance Anthems? 80s? Asian? Nordic? If you're interested in hosting any of these or have any other ideas then PM me and we can sort something out!

Posted by: Ryan. 7th July 2014, 04:46 PM

One of the previously suggested spin-offs that excites me most is the demos/unreleased tracks spin-off but I don't know who else would be interested in that one. Apart from that one, I'd quite like the one that was suggested where we are all given a country and had to choose a song from that country.

I'd of course be happy to host a spin-off but only if there is no-one else that is yet to host a main contest that wants to or is able to host as it is only fair that someone new gets the opportunity to host a contest before I do!

I would obviously be up for that one!

I already mentioned in the other suggestion thread that I would be available to host a spin-off, but I'll just drop it here too

Posted by: Thermo 11th July 2014, 07:57 AM

demos/unreleased tracks sounds potentially good - I'll just have to find some fresh dance leak and hope it's not cheap ph34r.gif

I would be up for hosting a spin-off as I want to host something contest related and there's no chance of me getting to do so the traditional way (by winning)

Unreleased tracks as in album tracks that weren't released as singles? If that's the case then it's hardly going to be any different from the main contest for me laugh.gif

Unreleased tracks as in tracks that were recorded during an album session or demoed by the writer but never got released as a single or made it onto an album.

That's a bit TOO niche tbh.

You would really only listen to songs like that by artists you love and that's making the possible pool of entries really small and dominated by popular artists.

I feel like this would just be a lot of well known artists, I think I'd personally rather a spin-off that felt a little more inspired than that.

that would be gr8. we should maybe limit it to 00s otherwise people will be entering songs that they would've entered to a normal contest or sending recent massive hits - vetoes should be in place anyway to stop super cheap songs from being entered and make the contest different enough to the one happening in the dance forum right now (cheap promo)

Posted by: { bré } 11th July 2014, 03:01 PM

I'd like to repeat my earlier offer to host an instrumental spinoff just in case that's vanished off the schedule (if there even was a schedule) ~

There isn't a schedule but we do have a list of everyone who made suggestion for themes. Might try and form a schedule some point soon.

Much agreed, there hasn't been one since April i believe? i'm sure there's been a few really nice ideas for these floating around before, so it'd be great to get another spin-off going soon biggrin.gif regardless of when/whether those reloaded results ever get posted~

Posted by: Cal 21st January 2015, 07:17 PM

We had one planned for late last year and John was going to host it but then he won the main contest so it was postponed. We'll definitely have one soon though!

Posted by: Ryan. 28th July 2015, 01:31 AM

Hey guys!

Just so you are aware, the spin-off resource centre thread (also pinned at the top of this subforum) is just about fully up-to-date. All I need to do is re-format the Re:LOADED results which I will do tomorrow. Therefore this means that the spin-off statistics are now up-to-date, and you can find them within the resource centre thread. The TBO/Rejects/BJFestivalen results (and Will You Remember Me Tomorrow?) are in the process of being moved to the main forum due to them now being part of the main contest schedule (and WYRMT? was like an ultimate TBO so goes with them), so the results of them don't factor into the statistics but this is all explained in the resource centre anyhow! happy.gif

My main reason for posting though is I'd like to gauge interest in the many suggested spin-offs we've had over the last year or two. The suggested spin-offs are as follows (and who it was suggested by as they get first priority to host of course):

90s - Bré
Versus tracks / Mash-ups - Yu
Asian songs - Cal
Vetoed songs - Chris
UK #41's / Just missed top 40 (#41-50) - Dan
Less than one minute - Chris
Instrumentals - Bré
UK artists - Lee
Intros / Outros - Bal
Worst songs - Rich
Demos / Unreleased songs - Tim
Hallowe'en / Christmas - Popchartfreak
No veto points - Chris
Remixes - Leww
Songs from assigned countries - Adam
Schlager - Vülker
Anniversary entries - Jester
Someone else's entry - Leww
Battle of the genres - Frank
Missed opportunities (best tracks that weren't singles) - Ryan

Over the next couple of days I'm going to work out the pros and cons of each and draw up some sort of priority list, but part of these pros and cons will be participation numbers. So I'm just interested to know which of these spin-offs you guys are most interested in. This doesn't mean whichever gets most hype in here will be the next spin-off, but the hype will be taken into account when I work out the pros and cons of each! Of course, the eventual hope is that the majority of these will get done. If you don't understand what any of the spin-off titles mean, just post in here and I can requote the original suggestion in full from the original thread.

Also, just so you aware we will be having Re:LOADED IV and V next month and I have chosen the hosts from the volunteers in the thread a couple of weeks ago, I will contact you shortly to confirm you are able to host.

So fire away with your hype campaigns for your favourite spin-off suggestion and let's get some discussion going (well once everyone wakes up tomorrow!)! happy.gif

Posted by: 『bré』 28th July 2015, 01:47 AM

I withdraw my suggestion of '90s' (forgot I even made that) as too vague and kind of already been done albeit in a dance-specific manner ~ That reduces the competition for spinoffs.

I'd still really like to try an instrumental spinoff but I understand if that is a low priority one given about 5 people would enter lmao.

Posted by: SevenSees 28th July 2015, 01:48 AM

UK #41's / Just missed top 40 (#41-50) - Dan
Instrumentals - Bré

Instrumental spinoff would be a huge priority for me, I need some good new ones in my life.

I like the different nationality one too, if it's handled right it could be very amazing (and fun to find a song for).

90's Hip Hop anthems is definitely due a spin-off for sure tbh

Posted by: Danvicii 28th July 2015, 02:46 AM

great idea cody though hip hop isnt too loved as a genre on Buzzjack

i would broaden it by including rnb etc bascially anything that would fit in the urban forum ~ 90s and 00s contests for them like what we did for dance would be cool

Worst songs *.* Forgot I'd mentioned that - 12 points for the worst song, 10 for the second worst etc...

The person that comes last would have failed in their quest to find something awful. It's questionable whether people would want to spend time listening to 30+ horrible songs of course, but I think it it might be a fun diversion.

The other thing I think I suggested on Plug once was a spin off which acts in the same manner as a regular BJSC, where we can send anything we want as normal, but with a minus voting system in place too, whereby we can only distribute positive points to six songs and then distribute negative points to another six. Something like:

Favourite songs - +18, +12, +10, +7, +4, +1
Least favourite songs - -18, -12, -10, -7, -4, -1

Would be interesting to see how that panned out. The more offensive songs would obviously come at the bottom, but would people also try to downvote the hyped favourites that they dislike to stop them winning too? And what about the inoffensive songs that usually sit in the middle? Imagine how fun/potentially awkward the results reveal would be as somebody looks to cruise to victory before being pegged down by a run of -18 scores biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 28th July 2015, 02:04 PM

This is all very helpful, and we can definitely take these extra suggestions into account!

One more question to throw at you all, would you like a spin-off and a Re:LOADED every month (more than likely starting in September) or would that cause burnout meaning you'd prefer a themed spin-off in September and then a Re:LOADED in October and they keep alternating each month?

Or maybe, we could start off with doing both each month and then when we start feeling signs of burnout, we can slow it down to alternate months?

Posted by: *Tim 28th July 2015, 02:08 PM

I'd suggest alternate between them, as doing both BJSC and spinoff in the same month can be a bit much, let alone do a spin off every month.

EDIT: Speaking from ym point of view, both in one month would cause me to have to choose between RELOADED and the regular spin off.

Posted by: Danvicii 28th July 2015, 02:09 PM

ii would suggest one spinnoff and one reloaded in one month especially as reloaded is only half as popular as the spin offs so keep interest going

Posted by: Ryan. 28th July 2015, 02:36 PM

If both in one month did happen, I wouldn't have them running side by side - so the themed spin-off would possibly happen for the first two weeks of the month and Re:LOADED for the last two weeks of the month. Just in case that influences your preferences at all!

Posted by: AdamAloud 28th July 2015, 02:52 PM

I like this idea. Perhaps try to have it so the themed spin-off falls on the main contest's break/confirmations and reloaded during semis/final week?

And like you say, if it proves too much for everyone you can switch to alternate months.

Posted by: *Tim 28th July 2015, 02:53 PM

Well in that case I am all for doing both in one month!

Posted by: Ryan. 28th July 2015, 02:53 PM

Yeah that'd be ideal actually seeing as there is always a week gap between contests and another week for confirmations, so that would fit perfectly! biggrin.gif

Posted by: 『bré』 28th July 2015, 02:57 PM

The next couple of Reloadeds aren't going to need 2 weeks really, that'll only be necessary from VII when the semi-finals come in. Could we possibly run both Reloaded IV and V before the next themed spinoff? Both should only take a week.

Posted by: Ryan. 28th July 2015, 03:04 PM

Yeah that's always been my plan, the next two Re:LOADEDs will happen as soon as we move into August anyway. This is just planning ahead after that, if we follow this plan then we'll go ahead with the next themed spin-off in the cross-over between BJSC 77 and 78 (if YBO Rejects is finished by then) and Re:LOADED VI during BJSC 78. So it'll be a jam-packed next few weeks but once we settle into a routine it should run like clockwork!

Posted by: JSG 28th July 2015, 04:30 PM

Can I suggest an idea for a spin off? I meant to ages ago but forgot. Oops.

Posted by: Froot. 28th July 2015, 04:34 PM

Yeh doing both in one month sounds good as there's a lot of potential for different spin-offs!

These would be my favourites:

UK #41's / Just missed top 40 (#41-50) - Dan
Songs from assigned countries - Adam
Someone else's entry - Leww
Battle of the genres - Frank
Missed opportunities (best tracks that weren't singles) - Ryan

Posted by: Chez Wombat 28th July 2015, 04:43 PM

These would be my favoured ones:

UK #41's / Just missed top 40 (#41-50) - Dan
Less than one minute - Chris (Have no idea how this would work, but sounds fun *.*)
Instrumentals - Bré (PLEASE for this one, they are one of my favourite kinds of music and it's sad so few are entered into the main one)
Worst songs - Rich
Hallowe'en / Christmas - Popchartfreak
Songs from assigned countries - Adam
Anniversary entries - Jester
Someone else's entry - Leww (This could be really great)

I'd quite like to make a suggestion for Songs from the Movies is possible/there's enough interest. I definitely wouldn't be able to host it until likely quite a while from now so just one for the drawing board really!

Posted by: *Tim 28th July 2015, 04:53 PM

OMG Movie Songs *.*

(Scrap my suggestion tho, I'll come up with a new one to host, it's shit)

Posted by: JSG 28th July 2015, 05:57 PM

my suggestion would be a eurovision spin off only incorporating songs from the finals that missed the top 20? I think that would be great wink.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 28th July 2015, 07:34 PM

Another Eurovision spin-off is definitely a possibility, but I'm not sure about that restriction as you are basically limiting everyone to a list of what I think would be less than 100 and it could be a struggle for everyone to find a song they actually like within that list in that I can see the same 5 or 10 songs being double and triple confirmed by everybody.

With a bit of work on that restriction though, a Eurovision spin-off is definitely a possibility at some point! And Movies seems like a viable suggestion to use at some point too.

Later this evening I'll bring together people's favourite suggestions from in here with what I think the other pros and cons may be and then hopefully by tomorrow I'll have some sort of priority list that we can change around if people disagree. So if you haven't yet done so, post any last minute suggestions or favourites from the list on the previous page (or since)!

Posted by: Jester 28th July 2015, 07:37 PM

I want a Britpop one please!

Posted by: Silas 28th July 2015, 08:04 PM

I'm ok with trialling a Re:LOADED and a proper spin-off happening each month from August up to the end of the year.

I'm very cautious about overdoing it as 'constant' BJSC was what nearly killed the contest in the late 20's to such an extent that there was a 3 month break between XXVIII and XXIX where we pressed reset on the contest and changed a fair amount of things at once to try and save it. It's worked but I've been militant about keeping a calendar since XXIX to make sure everything is spaced out.

Not to dampen the enthusiasm, but we just need to be careful that we don't get too carried away at the expense of BJSC as a whole.

Posted by: Ryan. 28th July 2015, 08:36 PM

Yeah I think the end of the year makes the most sense to take a step back and decide what's working and what the general feelings are towards spin-offs after a few months of regular ones which we'll have never experienced before.

Posted by: Danvicii 28th July 2015, 08:44 PM

how about a long songs spin off as well? (maybe the month after the songs under a minute one just for the contrast laugh.gif)

Posted by: Vülker 29th July 2015, 10:17 PM

Regarding Eurovision I'd like to see a Spin-off with National Final songs. So many gems there begging to be re/discovered.

Then I like the assigned countries and other people's entries ideas too. And Foreign Language 3 needs to happen!!

And if I may add one, I'd suggest a remix spin-off. Maybe with remixes of BJSC entries? Or a live performances only spin-off.

We actually did a national final rejects Eurovision spin-off a couple of years ago, I can't remember if you took part in it - but we could definitely think of doing it again at some point!

Yeah we already have a suggestion of remixes, but former BJSC entries remix could be an interesting take on it - makes it a little less vague. Live performances could be a good one too!

Posted by: Vülker 29th July 2015, 10:32 PM

I wasn't about actually no, but would love to take part in a second instalment.

You can put me down as a potential host for either the BJSC remixes or live performances spin-offs (or any of the others really) if we ever come to them then. I promise there won't be a repeat of Copenhagen-gate. kink.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 29th July 2015, 10:37 PM

Sure! biggrin.gif And yeah it took place in the Eurovision forum but it was dragged out over quite a while if I remember correctly so wasn't quite as successful as it could've been, so it may be worth doing another installment at some point once we've gone through some of the new ideas!

Posted by: Ryan. 5th August 2015, 06:08 PM

Just so we are all in the loop, as you can see we are having Re:LOADED IV this week and hopefully Re:LOADED V will happen next week. And then the week after that will be our next themed spin-off which should coincide perfectly with BJSC 77 finishing. Then once we've reached that point, we'll be into our routine until the end of the year where we'll have a themed spin-off during the main contest's break and confirmations and then a Re:LOADED during the main contest's semi finals and final.

We are still discussing internally which themed spin-offs to use over the next few months, but provisionally we are looking to use the UK #41s (or #41-#50) theme first as it received the most popularity during our discussion last week and is a nice simple one to get started with. If this was to be our choice, Dan will you be up for hosting this as you suggested it (I'll PM you soon in case you don't see this) and if we go for the wider #41-#50 boundary (I think this would personally work better but I'm interested in what you guys think), does anyone have any catchy names for the contest?

Cool, I've PMed you to talk about exact dates. happy.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 11th September 2015, 11:32 PM

The resource centre is all up to date again now following Worldvision so feel free to check out all the statistics. Please do let me know if you notice anything wrong in your "chart runs" or points totals or anything at all as when I created the statistics the other week I did 7 contests in one go, so it's very likely some mistakes will have creeped in. So if you do spot any then please point them out! biggrin.gif

If anyone ever gets bored and fancies being creative, feel free to make some small graphics for the spin-offs that don't have graphics yet. Or if you enjoy (ohmy.gif) using Excel, feel free to make some scoreboard spreadsheets for those contests that don't have them yet. kink.gif I will aim to get these done over time anyway, but any contributions are very welcome!

Posted by: ℓindsey ♫ 11th October 2015, 10:08 PM

I'd really like to have a go at hosting a spin-off before the year is out happy.gif I know I've suggested something in the past but I've come up with another idea that's a fair bit simpler laugh.gif Basically, have a Battle of The Bands contest where you'd send a song by a band, the genre, country etc doesn't matter at all. I guess the rules would be pretty much the same as the Near Misses ones, except it just being a song that's not charted within the top 40 of the band's home nation rather that it being between 41-50, the 12 point voting system would be used as well.

on another note, I think a BJSC flag rate would be a pretty cool thing to have as well, that's maybe something to save for December though and just include all the nations that were active in 2015 biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 11th October 2015, 11:17 PM

Thanks for the suggestion Lindsey! It seems like a good idea, although we do have such a backlog of suggestions that we already have rough ideas of which couple of spin-offs themes to use before the end of this year. That said, we will definitely discuss it and add it to the list of suggestions! biggrin.gif

The BJSC flag rate seems like a great idea though and that could happily take place in the spin-off forum like the winners rate did a few months ago. We will have a gap in our spin-off schedule for November so this could take place then, and because there will probably be a good 80-90 flags from active countries this year, you could perhaps run it over 3 weeks, with 30 new flags each week and then countdown the average scores at the end? I'm not sure exactly but just an idea! I know Bré has a lovely stash of flags so I'm sure he'd be happy to help provide the flags too!

Posted by: Mattias 11th October 2015, 11:43 PM

A friend of mine also told me about a spin-off that took place on another forum (he won it, yay) where each contestant puts down one artist, and everyone gets randomly assigned one of the artists from the whole bunch and must send a song by whatever artist they get. It sounds like quite a cool idea to me and everyone from BJSC who I've talked to about it has liked it too. I'd prefer not to host though tbh laugh.gif Thought it was worth suggesting it here anyway if someone else would like to take over?

We will have a gap in our spin-off schedule for November so this could take place then, and because there will probably be a good 80-90 flags from active countries this year, you could perhaps run it over 3 weeks, with 30 new flags each week and then countdown the average scores at the end? I'm not sure exactly but just an idea! I know Bré has a lovely stash of flags so I'm sure he'd be happy to help provide the flags too!

Okay, that could work! I could start it at the beginning of November, do the first 30 flags in week one, maybe do the results at the end of the week and then put out the next batch of flags in week two with the results following at the end of that week and so on, although I can see the issue of people voting in one set and not the next and that would mess up the averages/results, maybe it would be better just putting all the flags in one post but accept votes for two or three weeks, and then countdown the results over a couple of days? biggrin.gif

I love this idea. Make it happen please BJSC mods funky.gif

Sounds like another great idea! We are already in the final stages of planning the next themed spin-off and after that there will only be one more this year which will hopefully be a Christmas special to finish the year off, so these new suggestions won't be able to happen immediately. But it'll definitely be added to the list and strongly considered as we move into next year! biggrin.gif

Also I shall move the last few suggestions into the spin-off discussion thread soon so we can keep the spin-off suggestions within its own forum from now on as I think that makes the most sense!

Yay happy.gif I'm thinking it might be good to have some rules on what artists are allowed to be nominated. Otherwise I can just imagine someone getting Rihanna and someone else getting some obscure techno guy tongue.gif That would be fun too though in a way, luck of the draw, but I'd just be a little wary of that maybe... My friend did say that there were no rules like that at all in their contest, but I can imagine maybe it would be necessary here. I think they're less concerned about the whole cheap thing there heehee.gif

Some ideas for Spin-offs me, Lotti, Mattias, and Lindsey came up with:

Groups - Contestants are split off into groups of 3-5 (either through random.org or by choice) and given a genre/artist/theme and they collectively decide on a song in that category to send

Genres - Similar to Worldvision in a sense, each person picks a number and is assigned an subgenre (e.g. Jazz Fusion, Glitch hop, Neo Prog) and must enter something from that genre

Out of Genre Experience - send a song in a style the artist wouldn't normally do (e.g. Lady Gaga's jazz albums)

Instrumentals - Self-explanatory.

One on One - each person is assigned another person, and you give each other a song/artist that you think they'd like to enter in the contest

Epics - where you send one of the three longest songs a group has put out

Covers

Disney - send songs by Disney Channel artists (Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, Britney Spears, etc.), from Disney movies, or from Broadway adaptations of Disney movies

Soundtrack/Score - send songs in from film scores or soundtracks

Posted by: Mattias 13th October 2015, 05:14 PM

PLEASE can we do a groups one at some point kink.gif

The one on one would probably work best if you had chats with that person about your music tastes, just to get a better idea of the kinds of things they're into if you don't already know (I mean you can kinda tell from what they've sent before but anyway laugh.gif), and there would be more chance of them actually liking the song/artist you gave them. Would be fun to also just get to know that person better. I would hate for someone to be assigned something they don't like though tongue.gif sad.gif

I do also like the genres idea a lot.

not sure if I've suggested this before or not but how about a series of contests where we pit all of one country's entries against each other? (starting with the really iconic countries i.e. FSR Rontvia, Ashton, Kylienips, FKA π and working down based on number of entries and if the country is active [eventually getting to countries like Danaelanda!])

The person behind the focus country will also be able to vote for their own songs for once! magic.gif

My friend told me about a spinoff they had on another forum where you send a song that you think is bad rotf.gif So essentially you're trying to win by sending the worst song. That is a great idea but it would take so long! laugh.gif What if polls were added to the national threads of each country with all their entries and everyone just had to go around all the threads and vote for the song they like the most from that country, there could still be a thread in the spin off forum that links to all the countries participating and each person can leave little updates of how the votes are looking for their country in the thread or something? maybe at the end of it the top rated songs from each country could be put into a sort of final and everyone just votes using the standard 12/18pt system then happy.gif

Nice idea, however, poll questions limit to 50 options each. Countries who have been around since the beginning like Kylienips won't be able to include all of their entries nocheer.gif

Posted by: Avicii's Stories 13th October 2015, 07:47 PM

Or just make a multiple choice poll(s) where you tick all the entries that you like. That wouldn't be a bad idea.

Posted by: Ryan. 17th October 2015, 06:11 PM

All these suggestions are fab and will definitely be considered, do post about which you are most interested in as it will definitely help to gauge how much interest there is for each!

I love the idea of looking back at different countries' song histories and the poll idea seems good, although I'm not sure we'd be able to let everyone make a poll and then have 50 polls going on at once. But we can use the Danaelanda one going on now as an example and see if they would be popular! biggrin.gif

(I've now moved these posts over into here to keep spin-off suggestions separate happy.gif)

Posted by: Andrew***** 20th November 2015, 10:51 PM

I've got an idea for one, we could have a spin off where every country that signs up chooses an existing buzzjack artist forum to represent, and they have to pick a song from that artist.

Posted by: Ryan. 22nd November 2015, 03:45 AM

Thanks for the suggestion, it's an interesting one! I'm not quite sure it would work as I think we only have about 20 artist forums, so places would be very limited and we already have a few suggestions still to use that offer unlimited places. Thanks for putting it forward though, maybe we can come back to it in the future. biggrin.gif

By the way, apologies for the delay in updating the resource centre following the Hallowe'en spin-off - I will ensure it is done in the coming week!

I think Cameron was more meaning like, going against what you're most known for sending, for example I have a tendency to send pop-rock entries so i'd be assigned something like trance or d&b. Of course the majority of people do experiment and don't stay in the same genre for every contest, but I think everyone does have that genre that's their safe place or their origin, so it would be more opposing to that. I'd be up for that idea, see how far we can really broaden my musical horizons laugh.gif

I'd love the TV themes one too but I wouldn't make it exclusively anime shows, yes there's a fair amount of anime fans on here but that's not everyone, at least with a generalise TV theme, anime fans can send an anime track if they so wish and everyone else can choose what they like happy.gif

After playing some pop punk covers on plug tonight this idea came up (I think it was Lotti initially).... a genre swap spin off where people send pop songs being performed in another genre or even broaden that with a covers spin off, the veto rules would probably need to be near non existent for that though, probably just something like you can send popular/well known songs just not being performed by a popular/well known artist? ohmy.gif laugh.gif

Posted by: Mattias 1st July 2016, 09:17 AM

If this idea were to happen, it wouldn't happen til February, but I thought I'd suggest it now before I forget. You know the way we've had Christmas spin-offs and a Halloween spin-off, I was wondering about a sort of Valentine's Day spin-off? Wouldn't have to just be cheesy love songs (I wouldn't want it to be) and I'm sure it wouldn't just be that, people would experiment for sure, but obviously every song should have a theme that relates somehow to love or relationships, maybe even a break-up, to give it a bit of a twist? *sends 'You Oughta Know'*

I just want to stress just how on board with this I am. f***ING YES.

Is cats vs. dogs off the table now Lotti has been drafted into a different spinoff :'(

I'll just host instrumentals then, when that finally happens in like 2019. biggrin.gif kink.gif

(Duets sounds like a pretty good idea, surprised that wasn't suggested before actually! Unless it was.)

Posted by: danG 14th August 2016, 12:11 PM

cats vs dogs to happen anytime soon?

also the idea just occurred to me: The Go Green Contest, where you have to self-recycle an artist you've sent before. I've got so many good songs by artists I've previously sent to main contests so this would suit me well heehee.gif

Country spin off please drink.gif

Posted by: danG 14th August 2016, 12:35 PM

don't only like 10-15 people in the contest actually like country music though? just seems a bit too niche but that may be my anti-country bias talking.

Posted by: Brer Rabbit 14th August 2016, 04:31 PM

Tbh I don't really see the problem with having the occasional slightly more niche spinoff. I say this because I'm still pushing for an instrumental spinoff which wouldn't be a lot more popular than a country one kink.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 14th August 2016, 04:39 PM

Well this is an idea that just has come to my head so bear with me, but seeing as we would have a new spin-off in September and then a month-gap and then another in November. How about something along the lines of this:

September - Instrumentals
October - Country (or another niche that is completely opposite to the fans of instrumentals)
December - Christmas 3.0 (or something else if we've exhausted all the Christmas songs)

So instead of having a month gap, we would have two consecutive spin-offs but, as they are niches, people would probably only have a desire to enter one of them anyway (but can obviously enter both if they wish). Yet, with them happening so close together, people won't feel left out like they would if we followed the normal schedule and had a niche one in September (therefore if they didn't participate in September's niche, there would have been a big gap from July to November for non-instrumental fans).

Does that make sense? Maybe, maybe not tongue.gif

Posted by: Cody Raisman 14th August 2016, 04:39 PM

Halloween 2.0 tho

Posted by: danG 14th August 2016, 04:50 PM

having 2 opposite niche contests next to each other seems like the best idea really if fans of both are to be appeased.

I may even enter the country contest for the bants (and cos my mum likes a few country songs that I think are unknown enough).

I'd rather not have another Halloween or Christmas one this year, those could wait another year or two.

Posted by: Liаm 14th August 2016, 05:06 PM

Yeah that sounds good, brilliant in fact for country *.* I agree it's a good thing to have those two niches, because then people can't moan that they have to miss out because of country or instrumentals, I'm sure some will though laugh.gif But personally while I'd find it hard to participate or vote in an instrumental spin-off, I would LOVE the country spin-off. And I don't mind, actually I'd probably welcome, a month off for the instrumental one. I think I'd get really bored and sit one out anyway if I did ALL the spin-offs and the main contest as well. So yeah, definitely a good idea to have opposing taste spin-offs.

Posted by: Mattias 14th August 2016, 05:53 PM

An instrumentals spin-off sounds really exciting. I'll probably also try to enter the country one, I'm a bit more picky when it comes to that genre (as I am with several genres I guess) but I'm sure I can find something biggrin.gif

For ages I really wished for another Halloween spin-off this year because I had a potential for that (and now probably have several others if I dig deep into my potentials playlist) and I loved the last one but I'm not as passionate about the idea now so wouldn't mind if it didn't happen this year (although I'm still kinda yearning to send that potential, I just don't really want to send it to the regular contest kink.gif)

Posted by: Cameron 14th August 2016, 09:57 PM

Country sounds perfect.

Posted by: Jade 15th August 2016, 01:46 AM

I would be SO here for an instrumental spinoff! heart.gif Considering half of the stuff I send to the contest these days are instrumentals!

Country wouldn't really be my thing, but I am always up for a challenge so if the demand is there then I will give it a go. Would probably have to trawl through a LOT but I might be able to find something. Maybe.

(cats vs dogs tho)

That sounds good to me!

I'm unsure whether I'd enter a country spinoff. On the one hand, I will really struggle to find a song I actually want to send and then probably wouldn't like any of the other songs. But on the other hand... I can't have a gap in my participation history again!!! kink.gif

I do like the idea of a country spinoff though, it's a well established enough niche in the main contest so why not?

Posted by: Ryan. 15th August 2016, 02:10 PM

Well this sounds like a good plan, that is September and October sorted! If you want to host then do declare your interest - I think my original list of wannabe first-time hosts has now been exhausted. I'm still giving preference to people who have not hosted a main contest or a spin-off before but if that rules everyone interested out then we'll go back and give the option to whoever suggested these spin-offs. But if we don't need to do that, then the people who suggested the spin-off can be on the veto panel as we did with Dan last contest if they so wish (so whoever suggested instrumentals many years ago please own up).

Posted by: Liаm 15th August 2016, 02:15 PM

If we do the instrumentals one, can we PLEASE put a 5/6 minute limit on the song length (I'm looking at you Ethan)?

Oh also, just a little suggestion but what if the niche contests were 2 in 1 so you could send either country or an instrumental to the one contest? I liked how you could send either a cover or sample to Reinvention. Maybe have the country contest paired with rock as that would probs work better and have instrumentals paired with another 'not as popular' genre like rap or something, or maybe even the go green idea? ohmy.gif it would attract more participants and make things a little more interesting

I was thinking that maybe as Re:LOADEDs have been a little less popular (well that's an understatement) that any future ones we do could just be requested contests/spin-offs as long as they're within a certain time-frame ago - something like 3/4 years ago at least? What about something where everyone is assigned a particular year and they have to find a song from that year?

What would you even send for a Cats v Dogs spin off? That's a 100% non starter I'm afraid. Way too narrow a theme.

I do have concerns about a tv theme tho as you'll end up with 5min things competing against 30secs of music.

QUOTE(Cameron @ Sep 26 2016, 03:21 PM) *
Another idea, I would be intrigued with a 'shuffle' spin off where countries are given a certain time to confirm participation and then the countries are all shuffled and we are given one at random to recycle a past artist from. This way it means everyone who enters will get to see an artist of theirs recycled
But with reason, right?

Unless we want to end up with stuff like "Ain't My Fault" in the contest tongue.gif

Posted by: Silas 27th September 2016, 04:09 PM

I like the idea for sure. There's some things that'd need to be worked out, especially with how you take into account the old guard and recent debutants. And then there's pre-veto artists to consider as well.

It's worth adding to the list but will need some thought to really make it work well.

Posted by: Cameron 27th September 2016, 05:28 PM

Oh yeah, in terms of people who have sent artists who have become massive in the past years, those would have to be vetoed. Like a rule "artist cannot have had a top 40 UK hit or album" or something like that, and then obviously with countries such as Buzzjack Mountain if they enter, you cannot really send an artist by them... so maybe countries with the experience (ie Kylienips, Espen, etc) can be shared more than once for those countries with entries under 5 artists

Ya exactly. That's why I say it'd need a bit of thought to ensure that we got all that right to ensure it's a great event. Coz it does sound like it would be a fun spin off.

Posted by: Ryan. 29th September 2016, 03:01 PM

I agree with Phil, that's definitely my favourite suggestion of the past few pages - and there were quite a few good ones!

Meanwhile in the resource centre, the spin-off stats are now fully up-to-date and revamped to match the revamped stats thread in the main forum that happened a few months ago. That does mean I've introduced some stats the spin-offs didn't have before, but I haven't worked out who the record holders are so bear with me for that but all of the existing stats are up-to-date.

If anyone wants to volunteer to work out who the record holders are for one or all of the stats which have nothing next to them then feel free!

Are there going to be any more spin-offs this year? sad.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 6th November 2016, 11:25 PM

Personally I think it is best to leave it until January, if we were to have another we'd have to start it in like three weeks time to get it done before the Christmas week and because we've had two back-to-back it feels like we need a little more of a break than that. If there is LOTS of demand then maybe we can consider it, but remember TBO and TBO Rejects will both be going on at the same time so three things at once may be pushing it!

Okay we're looking at the "recycled act from another country" thing from page 13 as the spin-off for this month. If it is to happen I need a host (preferably someone who hasn't hosted before/for a while), a catchy spin-off name and a format people all agree on!

If you can throw out lots of ideas as quickly as possible and decide as much as you possibly can for us that would be fab, I'd like this to be kicking off by Monday! As the idea came from you guys you probably have a clearer vision of how it should all work than I do.

BJSC Swip Swap, BJSC Channeling Cheap

Wait I've got it, BJSC Masquerade and we can keep country names anonymous as it's like we're posing as another country by taking on their taste/past entries? ohmy.gif

Also yes at doing it the same way Cameron suggested! I know I'm helping Sam out with bjsc, me and Lotti did Reinvention so there will be more fitting hosts but the offer is there if nobody else wants to do it, Cameron can cohost wink.gif

Posted by: Bré 8th February 2017, 11:27 PM

BJSC Shuffle would make a fine name for it I think ;o happy to see we're going for this spinoff as it was one of the more creative ideas! second only to Cats vs. Dogs
EDIT: I think I like BJSC Masquerade better

I think it'd be logistically easier to have the pool of possible countries set in advance rather than based on the people who enter the contest (could just use a list of all the currently active countries, grouping together countries that have a small number of entries). Idk tho. ~

Posted by: ʟɪɴᴅsᴇ 8th February 2017, 11:29 PM

Tbh I think it should be just those that enter unless we get a new-ish country with a limited list of past entries, in which case swap in someone else as half the fun is seeing who got your country and what they chose to go with ohmy.gif

Posted by: Cameron 8th February 2017, 11:31 PM

Yeah, if I end up with Buzzjack Mountain I am leaving.

Posted by: Liаm 8th February 2017, 11:40 PM

I think the idea of pooling together newer countries is good, said countries might see it as a bit unfair but I think it's a bit shit for a participant to have to choose from like 3 entries compared to others who get to choose like 70-80 from others laugh.gif With most countries who are that prolific, there's bound to be at least one that everyone likes.

Posted by: ʟɪɴᴅsᴇ 8th February 2017, 11:45 PM

Yea make a rule about it having to be a country with 10+ entries? Is it purely main contest or is it including spin off entries too? I'd go with the prior tbh

Posted by: Cameron 9th February 2017, 12:11 AM

I'd rather main contest

Posted by: Cody Slayberry 9th February 2017, 12:19 AM

There are also a few countries from way back that have 10+ entries but would all get vetoed under the current framework, so maybe put a time cap on which countries would be available? It's Bette than grouping 20 at a time out of 150 or so countries that have entered.

Posted by: Liаm 9th February 2017, 12:28 AM

I don't think it's necessarily "current framework", obv it's still within reason but the mods will be a bit more relaxed I'm sure.

Posted by: Bré 9th February 2017, 12:31 AM

I thought the idea was that people are recycling an artist, not the exact same song? (Perhaps it should be limited to say the last 30 or so contests though so there are less cheap artists and also so that someone who got FSR Rontvia isn't at a massive advantage with way more options than most other people ~)

Posted by: Queen LeQueefa 9th February 2017, 12:35 AM

Is it the artist or the actual song??

I'm up for co hosting BJ Masquerade tbh!

Would we really be including the likes of FAZTICKLE in this? Besides... clarify this for me - I thought it was entering an artist that the assigned country has sent in the past but are some people thinking it's literally sending an old entry of theirs?

Anyway, if I understand this correctly, the people who enter are the ones who'd probably like to see someone else have a go at their entry list - so the priority of the list should of course be the people who enter. Perhaps buddy up major inactive countries (and active countries who say they won't take part) with a newer country so that the person who gets assigned the newer country can use as a backup if none of the artists are acceptable. Though, a limited pool may make it more of a challenge. I don't mind a little handicap on this sort of thing.

Posted by: Iz~ 9th February 2017, 12:39 AM

Also I'm dreading/'excited so I can complain' about people having all of the joys of my entry list available to them and inevitably picking someone like Alyssa Reid. kink.gif So that'll be fun.

Posted by: Ryan. 9th February 2017, 12:53 AM

I was certainly under the impression that we would be recycling a past artist, not an entire past entry - I think that would work better too. In addition, I think that we should only be using active countries.

Taking into things that have been said, I'd currently favour an initial sign-up. Then those that have signed up would be assigned another participating country from the list randomly. If their assigned country has entered less than 10 times then they can choose to take a country from a back-up list which would contain several countries that have more than 10 entries to their name and withdrew only recently (I'm hoping Bré or someone would have the stats required for such a list).

So say Séyetana signed up. They picked country #41 which turns out to be Ramrynia (lucky things!), they could recycle any of my artists but not the direct song. So Iz could send Sirusho's "Where Were You" for example, but not "PreGomesh". I don't see a problem with people drawing an Ashton or a Rontvia as their assigned country, just means they get 90 artists to choose from! Can limit it to BJSC 51/61 onwards though if you wish, I'm not really fussed. Worldvision had an element of luck involved as to whether you get a Germany or a Malta so this can do as well if it wanted to.

I guess you could do it in a secretive way as Lindsey suggests, may be an interesting twist. People could then have a little guessing game as to who is recycling their artist. For example if I got Séyetana and entered Katie Sky or Cady Groves (ignoring the fact they are both Ramrynia artists anyway), Iz would probably be able to have a good guess that I was assigned his country. Adds another element perhaps, depends if another element is needed.

Posted by: Leonardo 9th February 2017, 01:02 AM

Sounds like a great idea for a contest, and if whoever gets Quintessa moans, let it be known that one of our recycles just WON the main contest. So you'll probably piss it.

Yeah that was the situation I was talking about.

I agree with the list of countries to choose from should also include active countries who aren't participating in this spin-off. The spin-offs typically get half the participation of the main contest, so the newer countries (Niceland, Zanmatony, etc) would be pooled in with some other recent active countries with about the same sized repertoire. It gives countries who do get them with a choice to either recycle one of those artists or from another country - say like Ajanaeda for example - and then that will be noted in the confirmation form.

Posted by: Cody Slayberry 9th February 2017, 01:23 AM

imagine the madness if we the players were able to choose the country we want to recycle from

hehe good luck fighting for New Politics

Posted by: Iz~ 9th February 2017, 01:30 AM

I like exactly what Ryan said. That sounds really cool.

Posted by: Iz~ 9th February 2017, 04:19 PM

I'm not certain on that, do people think it'd be better anonymous or would they like the chance to know who's going to be rummaging through their artists? I'm ambivalent either way and we have a few days to decide.

Basically what I'm thinking is putting up a sign-up topic very soon, I may need a two or three step confirmation to work this properly and I'm currently thinking a sign-up/green room thread for a few days to get the people who're participating. Then assign people their country and confirmation.

The next spin-off will be Japan vs. South Korea! This was suggested by Cal around four years ago now and we are finally putting it into action. I am requiring a host at short notice that can follow a calendar along the lines of this:

Green Room - 7th April
Confirmations - 8th to 14th April
Final Voting - 15th to 28th April
Results - 29th April

Firstly, Cal if you want to host then its yours as it was your idea! If not then,

top priority will be given to people who haven't hosted before followed by people who have shown an interest in this theme via their entries in the main contest, but if you are at all interested even if you don't fit those two target areas then please post away! We may use some of the people who do show interest but don't get to host as part of the veto panel.

Odds on Yu using this as an opportunity to send Girls' Generation, 2NE1, f(x) or some combination of their members yet again: 1/2

I have an old potential or two I can revive for this if I find nothing new. Why only Japan and SK though? Wasn't Cal's suggestion for Asian songs in general? (not that this would stop at least 90% of the entries being Japanese/Korean anyway)

Posted by: Iz♀ 6th April 2017, 10:38 PM

I already have like 10 Japanese potentials I can't choose between without even stretching too hard. I'm gonna have a hard time picking just one.

(mainly because I was already looking for an in to send them to the main contest when they wouldn't immediately DNQ)

Posted by: Ryan. 6th April 2017, 11:30 PM

It was Bré but for the reasons you've stated we opted to go with these two on their own!

Loving the interest but it won't happen without a host!!!

A lot of my ideas for this are quite obvious but I'd quite like to go a bit more leftfield than just trying to send Koda Kumi, Ayu or Namie for Japan or like 2NE1/4Minute for Korea laugh.gif

HOW ARE YOU A MIND READER I WAS THINKING THIS TOO! I thought Yu would be hosting it actually but if he's busy... I was thinking like he could have a voting post with all the Korean entries and I could take the Japanese ones.

Serious talk, main reason I haven't put myself forward is because I've hosted Masquerade so recently because otherwise I'd be happy to take this on. If there's no one else who wants to (Oliver?) I'm fine to step in to make sure it happens.

There are 3 more spin offs this year.

Once we clear that and look at 2018 we can drop a worldvision in if that's something that people would like to see

No but seriously if regular Worldvision is what people want then we will build it into the calendar as an annual event from 2018.

seriously though, can we have Worldvision III in January and Worldvision IV in October to make up for it skipping a year?

Posted by: 5 Silas Frřkner 23rd September 2017, 09:44 PM

It never "skipped a year". It was never advertised as an annual event, nor promised as one. If a third is well participated in and enjoyed then we may make it annual which would probably put WV-IV at the same time in 2019.

The 2018 calendar hasn't yet been drafted so I'm making no promises I can't keep. If a suitable time period is available then it could be considered for it, however it is unlikely to see it twice in a calendar year, although there may be less than 12 month between them

Quite obviously, yes.

It is and Lindsey will be dealing with it in 2018 as has been planned all along. We're not running spin-offs over the 10th anniversary stuff as it will be poorly participated in so we're rounding off the Re:LOADED contests with one that completes the first decade and dovetails rather nicely into BJSC's birthday.

Yo I did bring up concerns about when/if Worldvision would happen again and like Phil has already said, it will come in 2018 magic.gif There's already plans for what's happening when and anniversary stuff is taking up quite a large chunk of it so it would make pretty much zero sense to try and squeeze another spinoff in just for the sake of it. I'd much rather wait a few more months and have it run properly than to rush it when there's other things going on.

You're not gonna be missing Worldvision when we're in the midst of the anniversary stuff anyway, that's for sure angel.gif

Yea I joined the team to liven up the spin off forum but most of that focus will be on what's coming in 2018.

Seeing as some people didn’t receive the message loud and clear, I hope this helps smile.gif

Worldvision III will be run in 2018 in the BJSC spin-off forum. Dates TBC but we will take into consideration that it is in high demand when scheduling it

Hey Lindsey hope you're OK!

I've noticed the demand for a Worldvision and it's been made clear there is no plans for one this year in the Spin-Off forum, so I was thinking for one year only we could run one in the Eurovision forum? Lex and Ryan think it's a good idea too, as it'll certainly help fill our gap nicely between our Super Eurovision contest ending and the 2018 National Final season starting in December! It's a bit of a win-win situation, the people that want it get a WV, you guys get to focus on the BJSC 10th anniversary celebrations and then WV can return to the Spin-Off forum next year if you guys decide you want it.

Of course I don't know your timetable for spin-offs and you may already be planning one at the start of next year in which case that's fine! Also didn't want to go ahead and start one in the Eurovision forum without getting your and the other BJSC mods input on this.

Thanks, Adam x

A quick and simple 'Thanks, but no thanks' PM back would have sufficed.

Any Halloween spin off??

I'll run it if y'all like

I have a bop I was only just unable to send in last years contest too

Posted by: ᴄᴀɴɴɪ 16th October 2017, 12:21 PM

No Halloween one this year because of BJSC 100, we've got more than just the main contest planned, dw there will be plenty to get involved in from that alone without spin offs rn angel.gif

I'll let you guys know asap if we have spin offs planned but let's just get 100 over with first, we'll probs have a reloaded before the end of the year. I promise you'll be sick of spin offs in the new year rather than feeling like you need to ask about if this or that is happening kink.gif

Posted by: Poked Pumpkin🎃 16th October 2017, 12:33 PM

So no Xmas one either??

Still wanna send me Christmas bop, which Mattias stopped me from doin by sending an EXISTENTIALIST song!!!!

The North Remembers.

Posted by: ᴄᴀɴɴɪ 16th October 2017, 01:11 PM

There will probably be something in December but I doubt it will be a Chrismas theme. It seems like we still have months left of the year but it's only like what, 10 weeks?? So it's not as long as you think, especially when we're trying to fit things between the BJSC100 stuff and reloaded, it doesn't give us much time to play with. Tbh even if time was on our side, I'd be reluctant to even have an Xmas theme as it's probably the most tired contest you could have, we've done it before and it's always just going to be the same stuff cropping up. Halloween is a different story though so hopefully that will work out for next year.

Posted by: Poked Pumpkin🎃 16th October 2017, 01:16 PM

Yah but that is what Christmas is all aboot tongue.gif

Vut ye are reet aboot Halloween tbh - I have TWO huge Halloween anthems - wait, I found a 3rd the other day!!

Posted by: Liаm 16th October 2017, 01:24 PM

There has already been 2 maybe 3 Xmas spin-offs, I don't think that's something we need yearly or more often than like twice, as it's limiting af, most spin offs aren't regular for a reason laugh.gif

Posted by: Poked Pumpkin🎃 16th October 2017, 01:26 PM

It's just another Xmas celebration - people don't have to take part and it can run alongside anythin else. Maybe not this year with 100 etc but next year and on I could run it with no pressure for anyone to play, just optional seasonal celebrations if people fancy.

Posted by: DANKENSTEIN 16th October 2017, 01:27 PM

there've only been two but there was a six year wait in-between those so it wouldn't hurt to not have one this or next year.

Posted by: HowtoCookMattias 16th October 2017, 01:28 PM

can we have an existential song spin-off. I had a really good potential for that but I ended up wasting it for the Xmas spin-off thinking.gif

Posted by: ᴄᴀɴɴɪ 16th October 2017, 01:37 PM

We've also got end of year stuff too of course which I wouldn't want to run into. If anything was to overlap I'd say a spin off and reloaded but then there's always the fear that the turn-out for one suffers because people don't want to enter two things at once. It's fine requesting a spin off but like say it went ahead at the same time as something and nobody enters after all the fuss, like??? :///

I'll have a look and see if there's a way around it and have a chat with the other mods if the demand is really there but I can't really say much more than we'll see laugh.gif

Halloween is right bang in the middle of 100 tho so that's a pretty solid no I think, and we've already talked about Xmas.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frřkner 12th June 2019, 11:43 PM

Aye champion, you up for hosting duties on it?

Posted by: FrankLuck 19th November 2019, 06:33 PM

I gathered a fairly long list of potentials for BJSC during the years that I didn't end up sending for whatever reason (too safe/too risky/too weird(not necessarily in a good way)/'not really me'/forgot about its existence/I already sent something similar, etc.) and I'm pretty sure that I wouldn't enter them in the future, either. I guess everyone has 1 or 2 (or 20) forgotten potentials like this.

I think it might be interesting to have a 'Forgotten Potentials' spinoff, as these songs can still be great discoveries for others + they would get the spotlight they deserve.

If the crowd likes the idea then I'm happy to host the contest in the future.

(I love the 'BBC Introducing' idea that Lewis had too, btw)

Posted by: m 19th November 2019, 06:47 PM

I for one would be cool with that, I probably have quite a few 'ones that got away' or 'ones I was tempted to send but never did and probably never would'. I think I also skipped the last Frank contest so it would be kinda nice in that way too.

adding in: I've also had an idea for a spin-off for actually years now lol, I'm not exactly sure of the details of how it would work but it sounds doable to me. I don't want to steal Frank's thunder tho so I'll maybe bring it up properly later.

I’m happy with that if you’re ok to host it! When you reckon you’ve got time to run it just drop us a PM with some dates you’re thinking of and what, if any, restrictions you’d have on entires (ie standard veto rules or something specific)

I’d like to see us pick these back up in 2020 but that depends a lot on y’all being willing to host as well as pitch in theme ideas. Gonna finish the year off with an updated TBO but come the new year I’m really looking forward to us having some more things going on here.

We can’t have it fall back on a mod to host everything, the vision for this subforum was always to give you guys more control over what happened here but that comes with the responsibility of taking on the hosting.

Posted by: Big Boobs Vjay! 19th November 2019, 07:15 PM

I'll host Xmas if no one else wants to and DEFINITELY need to be on the veto pannel for it after last time's fiasco!!!

Posted by: King Rollo 19th November 2019, 07:21 PM

Yes please,Michael. I wasn't here for the last Christmas spin-off and I've had a wonderful Christmas song ready since 2017 that I don't think anyone will know.

Posted by: m 19th November 2019, 07:43 PM

Okay well, my idea sounds quite excessive at first but I've always imagined it to be potentially fun. I mean the idea is actually simple - it would be a contest where everyone has two entries. So it might be interesting to look and see like, how a country might have two hits or two 'flops' or one hit and one flop etc. All in the same contest. Sounds a bit like Masquerade except in this one you would choose both your entries.

If the volume of entries is too large, I'd imagine there'd need to be semis where both entries from each country are in the same semi (otherwise everyone would have to listen to both semis).

Posted by: m 19th November 2019, 08:14 PM

If it doesn't work, I really wouldn't mind, I'd kinda prefer for it to be one big final anyway so everyone has two chances in the final and not have it be unbalanced. But that might just be impossible with the doubling of entries.

Posted by: Big Boobs Vjay! 2nd December 2019, 12:30 AM

So how are the dates?? I have also decided on who i'd like for the veto panel.

Posted by: December Dong 2nd December 2019, 05:42 PM

Posted by: Chez Wombat 22nd March 2020, 05:52 PM

hi.gif I'd quite like to see a spin-off happen at some point this year given I and probably a lot of us have a lot more time on our hands. I don't actually have a new idea, but there was one that I really liked the idea of a while back that never came into fruition that I'd like to try out. Turns out it's in the other thread lol~

QUOTE(Cucumberella @ Feb 16 2019, 10:00 PM) *
i had what i THINK is a really good idea but you all might say otherwise LOL

i was thinking that we could do a BJSC LOTTERY idea, where we come up with 50 or so vague themes, and everyone gets assigned a theme that are very random and not linked so that we get some interesting results. it's meant to be like a mish-mash of ALL different spin-offs we've had whilst throwing in some curveballs! they then need to find a song that fits the (not too restricting) criteria. some of them would be inspired or would involve previous bjsc entries but most would involve fresh ideas.

- 01. long song bloc - any song over 5+ minutes
- 02. song by an italian artist
- 03. song with the word angel in the title
- 04. a track from 1999
- 05. a remix of a previous bjsc entry
- 06. an entry with less than 5,000 youtube views
- 07. an artist whose name begins with B
- 08. a previous FSR rontvia entrant
- 09. a song by a duo
- 10. a forgotten top 75 hit

etc. etc.

I think this could be another really cool Masquerade/Worldvision where everyone sends something different. I'd be very willing to put myself forward to host it some time soon (if you don't mind leww?), what do people think?

I am presuming there are no current plans for an end-of-decade contest so if there is interest I could run one that puts all the winners of the 2010s up against each other. I did one of these five years ago with every winner since the beginning (almost to the day) but of course there've been many more since then. Posted by: Pting Rollo 18th October 2020, 03:01 PM

Halloween spinoff would be good. Then maybe reinvention in November.

Posted by: Thom Kerewolf 18th October 2020, 03:12 PM

I actually have an entry for a Halloween contest ohmy.gif

As for Reinvention, I’m on board but I am offended on Infernal’s behalf that it wasn’t named Redefinition kink.gif

Posted by: Crypt of the Wombat 18th October 2020, 03:16 PM

Would be on board with a Halloween spin-off naturally *.*

(also I'm very sorry I totally failed at my initial idea I posted a few months ago, I just couldn't get the timing right. I will keep it bookmarked and wait until I have enough free time for it).

Posted by: Boo!piter 18th October 2020, 04:45 PM

Well, mods PM me if interested xox

Posted by: Grim Bréaper 18th October 2020, 04:45 PM

I'd be here for another Halloween spinoff but Halloween is less than 2 weeks away so we'd need to start very soon to get a decent voting window while it's still seasonal! I'll message you Jupiter cool.gif

(apologies for spinoffs going quiet again the last few months, I meant to try and organise another spinoff not long after Worldvision but in true Bré 2020 fashion I just never got around to it)

Can definitely try and sort out a Reinvention as well before the end of the year and we can maybe revisit the Lottery idea again for reals in the new year? We had a Christmas spinoff last year and I think that's a theme that needs a year or two to breathe between repeats so I'd lean towards saying not yet for that.

Posted by: Quarantilas 18th October 2020, 05:06 PM

One holiday themed contest in a year is enough Id say, so halloween is a go and we can bench that again next year. (This pair are so close to each other in the time of year so itd be good to not have two so close together

Posted by: Psycho-dy 18th October 2020, 06:38 PM

still waiting for another Masquerade spin-off

Posted by: Quarantilas 18th October 2020, 06:50 PM

It’s alright folk waiting for spin offs but without people to volunteer to host them, they will not happen

Posted by: Tafty 20th March 2021, 10:57 PM

Got permission to post this in here seeing as the movies forum has been a ghost town since Covid hit and delayed everything!! Boooooooo!

But for those who are missing the spin-off's, there is a Movie Forum Song Contest taking place in the movies forum, just http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=244196 to take part!

Would be so grateful to hit at least 15 members (currently on 8 with 2 days left </3 )

Thank youuuuu heart.gif

(P.s. the theme is SCORES!)

I miss the spin-off's

Posted by: Riser 3rd April 2021, 12:51 AM

Tbh I feel like we're still having "spin-offs" and they're just happening in the other forums' song contests. And that's fine, it just limits how much can be done here because we can only handle so many song contests at a time. It's nice to have our country names involved every once in a while so I miss that too.

(And if I'm being selfish I now have an entry for a TV theme spin-off and would love that to happen kink.gif)

Can we do another masquerade, I'll host xxx

Posted by: JSG 27th May 2021, 06:08 AM

I was thinking about a competition where we only send from our DNQ back catalogue from the whole time we've entered? I know we do a yearly one with all the DNQ'S already but I thought it would be interesting to give each of our favourite DNQ'S one chance in one competition?

Posted by: Quarantilas 27th May 2021, 05:02 PM

Posted by: JSG 27th May 2021, 05:07 PM

Oh I don't even remember, maybe I wasn't here at that point. There are a few songs I'd like to give another chance to though, I think!

Posted by: Quarantilas 26th November 2021, 02:47 PM

Would love to hear what people are Keen for in 2022 - but as always, we need host volunteers as well as theme suggestions!!!

Wrong thread oops

Posted by: NocheLuna 3rd January 2022, 06:34 PM

Any interest in a Worldvision and/or Schlagerfest (scandipop) spin off? If yes and with permission from the mod team of course, I could host one or both in the next couple of months happy.gif

Posted by: PeteOnEarth 3rd January 2022, 06:41 PM

I'd be up for another Worldvision! Always enjoy digging through random countries' music to find something enjoyable.

Posted by: newsting 3rd January 2022, 07:10 PM

Worldvision hopefully as I have a couple of entries for a lot of countries now

Happy to have both back this year!!!

Let’s not go off right now, say mid-Feb Time ish. Otherwise totally happy for you to host something.

My vision for this forum has always been that this is BJSC but more in your hands, your control. We need volunteers to host and to provide themes of course! But also, I want you guys to be able to experiment and experience hosting and have a bit more of a say in how we run these and how often

Posted by: Brer 3rd January 2022, 10:27 PM

I have been quite missing having regular spinoffs (and yet ducking my own power to do anything to make them come back, my bad x) so let's make it another New Year's resolution for me to be more engaged in here and help make sure they are a thing again in 2022. Definitely down for another Worldvision soonish (and hooray for us having a host volunteer). Although yes, probably best to at least wait until we've wrapped up TBO so maybe February indeed.

Posted by: Travis 4th January 2022, 01:07 AM

Am willing to host an Asian pop spinoff! idk what the schedule looks like, but I want to do it!

Posted by: diva thin muffin 4th January 2022, 11:06 AM

How about a spin-off where I personally assign an artist to every participant? I just want to do this so that I can assign some pop hoe to Bré kink.gif

or maybe something where people have to submit something totally out of their comfort zone. i.e. Pop mafia have to submit rock, indie darlings have to submit commercial house, dance bloc have to submit country, long song bloc have to submit short pop songs etc. laugh.gif

Posted by: awardinary 4th January 2022, 11:13 AM

I had the idea that I shared with someone recently where the rules are you’re only allowed to submit songs from artists who aren’t alive anymore. Posthumous releases are recommended but you could send anything as long as it’s not widely recognised by the public. I think it has some potential to work as a theme. ohmy.gif

Ooh this is similar to BJSC Lottery, where everyone is given a certain criteria of song to send, could be a genre, length, topic etc. It was suggested a while back, and I offered to host but could never find the time. I won't commit to it in case I can't, but I'd love to see it if anyone can.

Would also love to have a Worldvision ofc.
