This story is everywhere today. A few are going with the "Victoria Beckham reunites with Spice Girls for documentary" angle.

Trust the UK press to always go with the most shite of angles when it comes to Spice-related news. Outrageously stupid (though I am glad the story is out there at least).

I also wish they would be more cosy with the music-press rather than constantly sending press-releases and partnerships with the most gutter-press imaginable. Their deals with The Sun are simply revolting to be honest.

They would very well be closer to music publications and overall the music side of the industry since, you know, they are celebrating their MUSIC at the moment...

I'm definitely going to want to watch this of course, but is there honestly anything left to tell?

From new Melanie C interview with OCC:

QUOTE
Also, we just had to find out what's happening with this rumoured (or, according to Mel B, confirmed) Spice Girls documentary with acclaimed director Jason Hehir.

"We have been in discussions with various people about potentially doing a documentary," Mel teased. "So there's nothing confirmed, but it's something we're exploring."
This comes after Mel B recently said the group had 'signed' a deal with Jason Hehir; the man behind Netflix's Emmy-winning Michael Jordan documentary The Last Dance.

Speaking to Australian outlet The Project, Mel spilled: "I told Dave [Hughes, fellow The Masked Singer Australia panellist]when the cameras were off that we've signed our documentary to the guys that did The Last Dance, and he went and told the whole audience. I think I did say 'we've only just signed it, it hasn't been announced yet,' and then he told everyone."

Praising The Last Dance director Hehir, Mel continued: "The director and the whole concept of how that was shot and filmed was really, really, really, really good; so we'll be doing our own version with them."

The Last Dance, a Netflix series documenting the career of Chicago Bulls basketball legend Michael Jordan, was released in 2020 and went on to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.

I see that Jason Hehir, the director, is following on Instagram four of the girls (except Victoria) and the official group account. whistle.gif

To be honest, if they hadnt split up, we probably would have gotten even MORE documentaries. These girls love to tell the same story over 26 years. Now imagine them with many more stories to tell teresa.gif

You need to remember, outside of an official documentary that's not aired in over 15 years, their story has not been told on such a global level. If they get one of the streaming giants on board, it's going to re-introduce them and their story to those who maybe haven't paid attention since the 90s and maybe even a younger generation who aren't familiar with them.

If it's a success, who knows what it may lead to...

Definitely agree that a new documentary has great potential for a wide audience. Hardcore fans may be a little bored by the idea due to previous versions, but I suppose it’s not really aimed at us.

Really hoping it’s handled well and has great promotion, whichever streaming platform gets it. It really needs to feel like it’s an event that gets people binging it and talking about it online.

8 minutes in. Presumably “all 5 of us are speaking and we’re announcing something really soon” is a tease about the documentary?

That comparison to Take That. I mean, the Spice Girls are worldwide Gods. Take That are conservative tax evaders only Brits know.

Hopefully it'll be on Netflix, as far as I'm aware that platform still has the biggest reach.

That's harsh and also not completely true.

Posting this here without a link as don't want to give ANY more clicks to the rotten shit bag that is The Sun newspaper, but they just posted this on Spice Circle.

What do we think girlies?

SPICE EARNER: Spice Girls set to make £1m each from upcoming Netflix documentary… and could perform one-off concert

THE SPICE GIRLS are set to net £1million each for their upcoming Netflix documentary marking their 30th anniversary next year – and they are hoping to do a one-off performance too.

The Nineties girl band — Geri Horner, Victoria Beckham, Mel C, Mel B and Emma Bunton — have all signed up to the streaming platform’s exciting project.

It comes after the huge success of Beckham, the documentary on Posh’s hubby David, which has spent the past three weeks at the top of Netflix’s global chart, having been streamed in more than 25million homes, while Posh is in talks to make one on her fashion career.

A source told me: “The pop legends are excited to mark the milestone celebration and think this is the perfect way to do it.

"The documentary will have high production values, and the performance ideas are being explored, with Glastonbury 2024 being an obvious option.

“Getting all five women to the table is a huge coup, and fortunately Netflix has deep enough pockets to entice top talent.

“They’re all proud of what they achieved in the band and are excited to look back at old footage and relive fond memories.

“The finer details are being ironed out and a performance of some kind will be the icing on the cake.”

Last year Mel B revealed that she and the other girls had been working with the team behind Netflix hit The Last Dance, about the life of basketball superstar Michael Jordan.

She said: “The director and the whole concept of how that was shot and filmed is really, really, really good. So we’ll be doing our own version.”

Victoria missed the girls’ 13-date tour of the UK and Ireland in 2019. Mel C performed a solo set at this year’s Glastonbury, where she revealed: “All of the Spice Girls would like to play Glasto, that is the truth.

“Like I said to the audience, doing a couple of Spice Girls songs, ‘A bit of a warm-up for next year?’.”

The band formed in 1994, with debut single Wannabe reaching No1 in 37 countries in 1996. Their first six singles went to No1 and they became a symbol of Nineties feminism.

Geri quit in 1998 and the band took a hiatus in 2000, with all five girls enjoying successful solo careers.

In 2007 they briefly reunited for a world tour, with tickets for their London O2 gig selling out in two minutes.

Five years later they performed at the closing ceremony for the London Olympics.

Viva Forever, ladies . . .

It would only be worthwhile if they were all together throughout it. More separate solo part docs we can do without.

A documentary on Netflix celebrating 30 years would be the best time to get out unreleased tracks and release something worthwhile.

They can use snippets of the tracks in the documentary or them recording/performing them. It could either be the GH re-released with a 2nd disc of unreleased stuff or a big say 6 disc thing with everything, the studio albums, bsides, remixes, unreleased stuff. Only the latter would make Spice25 and SW25 completely pointless so I think the GH 2nd disc might be better.
