Taylor's Chart Highlights Taylor Swift's "1989" debuts at #1 on sales on 1,286,544, just 32,649 short of beating Britney's opening week sales of 1,319,193 for "Oops... I Did It Again". Approximately half (49.7%) of 1989's sales were digital downloads (640,000). The only album to sell more digital copies in a week is Lady GaGa's "Born This Way" (662,000), but approximately two-thirds of those sales were from an Amazon 99c promotion (while Taylor's album was also on sale for 99c in a Microsoft promotion last week, these sales have not been counted by Nielson Soundscan). The next album on this list is Beyonce's self-titled 2013 release, which sold 617,319 digital copies in 3 days with an iTunes exclusive. 1989's physical CD sales totalled 647,000, of which a target exclusive deluxe version accounted for 470,000, just over one-third of her sales. Taylor's "Red" is the last album to sell more copies on CD in a week (743,000). This week's album sales were 5.79 million - up +30% on last week and up 23% compared with same week last year. One in 5 of ALL albums sold last week was "1989", which sold more than the combined sales of #2-107 on the Billboard 200, and more than the combined total of the last eight #1 debut albums. Here are just some of the records Taylor has broken this week:

Taylor's Chart Highlights Approximately half (49.7%) of 1989's sales were digital downloads (640,000). I wonder what her iTunes sales were. |

Or the mythical upcoming Adele album? She will not reach even a half of Taylor's impressive result. Most possible : something between 400-500k. With a strong lead single and some good promo performances (Adele is very good live), I think she'll get near 1 million. |

Adele is definitely gonna be another "will the record break?" moment Honestly it probably will unless the lead single bombs/it's released unconventionally.

Predict : Adele's future sales results in US will be very similar with Norah Jones and Alicia Keys. Every next album after '21' will sell less and less copies. On the current moment Taylor Swift is in her personal league and nobody can't be even close with her sales results. |

I very much agree with your prediction but I think her sales start should still be exceptional. She'll just be very frontloaded.

Adele's album sales in the future will obviously be significantly less than '21' but it's rather deluded to suggest the first week of the direct follow-up to '21' would be that small.

Adele's next album will break first week records across the world purely for hype and will be incredibly frontloaded to the first few weeks of sale. It won't sell as much as "21" in the long run.

Well it's all pie in the sky until it comes around, if it ever does at this rate. But we can't discredit her as a possibility for achieving it...
