This is your new thread. I've put the links that SpamFritter has kindly provided at the top of this thread so you have easy access. I recommend bookmarking this thread too.
The topics have been emptied into the Pop forum rather than Retro, to avoid clogging up the Retro forum, however you should not be disturbed. Feel free to change the thread title SpamFritter, I named it according to what I thought you might want.
If you want any topic moved over from the Pop Forum because you need to post in it again, then let one of us know. If you want to find a topic and can't, feel free to PM a GM or a Pop mod about it. I've put the Photos one in here as it was being used, all the random silly threads TheSnake mad I put as invisible because they are quite frankly a mess and embarrassment, the Funny Girl ones and anything on this list I think should still be viewable but locked, if you'd like them moved able to be posted in I can do that if you just let me know whenever!

I can't stop all these e-mails from the Nickie lasaj forum. Please help me Pam. I have tried everything-but nothing stops them. I have ended up putting them into Spam and blocking. How the lead to Darius produced her,I don't know. Nothing works to stop and e-mail I sent to moderator just came back saying "already exists " Do not know what that means and cant find any other tools to help on my smartphone.

Go to the Nicki Minaj forum, and up at the top right where it says 'Forum Options', click that and there should be an option to unsubscribe from it.
Similarly, if that's the system you use, I'd recommend using the 'track this topic' option at the top of this thread for the same effect.

I think this thread and the other active Darius thread here will be much quieter now than the forum was in its last few days. Less topics to comment in, I trust the creation of any other threads about Darius (song rate polls or whatever) will be banned in the Retro Lounge and all content about Darius must be on the existing threads.
Thanks Iz you at least tried to do the Darius subforum idea I know but you couldn't, it was too hard to do, as you said. I suppose that early Nicki Minaj subforum on the Artist Forums could have been renamed Darius and all the Darius stuff transferred there and the whole subforum could have been put on the Retro Lounge but that would have went down like a lead balloon with many on Buzzjack (no other artist has a subforum so why should Darius as they said
)Looking forward to see how this goes. I am still doing my remix of the Darius song btw and getting on well with it!
I think the title should be changed to Darius General Discussion. I have changed the Darius Buzzjack twitter page and posted this as a Darius Discussion Page. Bits and Pieces could be a bit confusing to anyone joining plus the bit about 'Darius refugees'.

I see the title can be changed but apparently we alone who brought over only the archive, which is apparently in the pop forum, one general thread and one photo thread, are to be banned from creating new topics here.
Where is the precedent for this?
We should have been told that we were only to be allowed to post in the threads we transferred.

You're not banned from creating new threads at all!!!! Create away! I think this was chosen over pop as you all hard rough experiences there in the past and this would be a bit more receptive and peaceful for you to continue your community.
The rest of the forums were archived into here or the pop forum without the notice to create an archive like you guys got so Iz has tried to make this as smooth a transition as possible for everyone

I know it seems sad Polly but the forum was not used very often.
The 2 new ones on AF have a big community who post frequently.
Darius is away for a while now so things will go quiet again.
At least we have a place to go for info.

There are some links that are not working, Bits and Pieces 7 being one and the 2 Funny Girl ones.
I have asked for them to be looked at.
B&P 7 was almost due to be renewed with the number of posts in it but I wanted it on for people to see.
We could start No. 8 or just write here what do you prefer?
However it may be best waiting till others catch up with us before starting No.8

I think this title and subtitle clarify what Bits and Pieces is. It's not an off topic chat thread and it never was one.

Thank you. Funny Girl is better open even pages back, because we know we'll need it for the Sky Arts showings at the very least.
By all means let's use this thread to keep news together but we should also be able to open comment threads about certain news items, like we did with the Funny Girl Tour.

I think this thread should be renamed 'The Darius Lounge' it is just has a nice name to it imo! You can put on the opening post a picture of Darius sitting in a lounge (not sure if there is one though)!

I'm not sure whether the Darius chaise longue/ sofa pictures have transferred. There were quite a few together on one thread in the AF.
We're continuing the Bits and Pieces 7 thread for Darius centred comments, brief tweets/comments in the media, rumours about future activities etc.

If iit's clearly marked Darius then those who don't like him/us can avoid it. Others should be welcome too.
Ok I will start it. Maybe we should close this thread then so as to not have two threads with general Darius discussion, which I am sure popchartfreak understandably wouldn't like as we would be taking over the Retro Lounge too much!

I for one hardly ever remember to look at pinned threads That was true in the AF too. I always saw the pinned threads as an archive not to be sullied with too many comments/discussions.

I don't think both Bits and Pieces and The Darius Lounge one will be needed, as they are both for the same thing, general discussion. I think 'The Darius Lounge' is a better name than Bits and Pieces so maybe Bits and Pieces 7 should be closed and replaced with 'The Darius Lounge' or just renamed that.

Not artists now. That is a list of individual forums like we had for Darius.
We' ve only got 5 threads which are active in the RETRO FORUM.... This one supposedly for Darius news, so it can be kept together.
The old Bits and Pieces 7 thread which we're still using for Darius related comment, small mentions in the media and rumours.
A photo thread.
The Funny Girl Show and gigs thread left open for comments when it's due on Sky Arts, arranging meet ups etc if it's shown in cinemas, reviews and such like.
Darius Lounge, a place for general non-Darius chat where all are welcome and other Buzzjackers can find that Darius fans are not that different from other artists fans.
The other important threads are not lost. Spamfritter carefully gathered them up the ones we wanted to keep and there are links to them all on the first post of this thread.

Darius posted a video message to his fans after the carol concert which you can see on the archive Facebook page. While it gave me a bit of hope we might get new music from him next year it also made me feel a bit sad as well. It sounds like he's had a bit of a bad year personally. Hope everything is OK for him.

I thought I'd move this to here instead. I think darius is back in LA there are some pictures of him on a website called hawtcelebs.com he is out on a walk with natasha.
He did say they are still dear friends although I think Natasha is wearing a RING on her WEDDING finger but Darius isn't wearing one. They don't look happy though

Singing colourblind on the karaoke last night when someone said I wonder what happened to darius you don't hear of him anymore.(which made me feel a bit embarrassed for still liking his music if I'm honest) and it Started to make me wonder whether he will ever go back to music or are we just kidding ourselves still believing that he will . It's been 12 years since he started saying he's got a new album coming out. I know he says he wants to go back to music but has he left it too long to go back to music. Maybe we should just be grateful for what we do get with the acting and producing films(which is great and I love) instead of keeping on hoping there will be a new album when I'm starting to think there might not be.
Which makes me want to ask darius fans a question. Who still believes hand on heart that the new album will happen and be honest? I'm not sure I do anymore
Maybe a little gig with new music will restore MY belief hint hint darius

Don't get me wrong I love all the things he does and would love it if he did another show or something like that and I'm really looking forward to seeing funny girl in the cinema. I'm just missing the music just like everyone else and I wish people who only knew him for his music knew him for other things as well and then they would know he still exists.

I read it earlier. I didn't get the impression that Amy was the source at all.
My impression was that it was a' 'friend' or 'acquaintance who opined to a reporter or the Sun' story desk to cash in on her upcoming appearance on Love Island.

Every single year there are rumours that Darius will be going into IACGMOOH or Big Brother.
The only current reality show that I could see Darius doing would be Strictly because he'd have time to focus on dance, a skill which could benefit him as both performer and producer. Also, Darius has never been afraid of hard graft to get where he wants to go.
Had to go out.
However, I'm not sure Darius would ever have the time to do Strictly because it's a big commitment. Weeks of rehearsals before the first shows and if he did get anywhere in it, the tour too.
Maybe hope for a Christmas special or some such.
BTW what do you think about this year's rumoured change to Strictly? The judges will apparently dance with contestants. Been done in the Australian version.

Darius always said the only kind of reality show he'd do would be centred purely around music and he was asked about strictly around the time he got married and he said the only dancing he does is in private. I think the judges dancing is a good idea.

The stage show is doing well in the US at the moment and I heard there might be a UK tour as well. I tweeted tim rice to say it would be great for the original cast to be involved but no word yet whether this will happen.

Yes, it is. They're using these shows to knock it into shape for Broadway, I haven't read any of the reviews but the soundbites used for further promotion seem to be uniformly excellent.

What also makes me think that Amy was the source is BOTH articles have now been removed. Maybe she was the one who went to the papers and she really shouldn't have done given she's about to go on love island.

I doubt it will be music orientated but hopefully we will get to hear something after september. I hope we get to see shiro ( I think it was called) at some point (based on beauty and the beast) would be nice to see as a one off. Unfortunately it was made in 2012 so I very much doubt it would commissioned now. Thanks for the update. Excited to see a new film he's producing I only saw imperium and while I didn't actually like the film I was still very proud that it was his first time producing something. I would of liked to of seen the others aswell. Just had a look and it says he's co-producer, isn't that higher up than being co executive producer? Either way very proud of him.

Hope you're right in that he's been offered something that appeals to him more. We'll just have to wait and see. We're good at that now. If he has withdrawn from it I can't imagine they were best pleased given they've already started filming.

I've no idea either. It was on his page yesterday with a release date of the 27th sept. The only thing I've seen of Darius was a reply to a post on twitter. Someone posted about there being musical roads in america and Japan and Darius just replied with I'm moving. I found it strange that its the first time he's tweeted or anything in a year and that's all it said. Made me wonder wether it was actually him but it was defiantly his twitter page. Last I heard he was moving back to Glasgow to be near his parents.

For the past few months Stuart Brayson the composer of FHTE as been teasing that this might be coming back to the west end. I've tweeted a few times to say it would be great if this happened with the original cast(tweets that he's liked). Today while tweeting a birthday message to Tim Rice(Happy Birthday) he mentioned he is looking forward to working with Tim again Very soon and he tagged FHTE musical in the tweet. There is no actual confirmation yet about this happening or whether the original cast will be involved but I'm hoping it will be soon. I'll keep people posted. Who thinks that if it does come back with the original cast that Darius will be involved?

I'm not sure where he is. I'm thinking he's got something in the pipeline because Aria and Cyrus went to France to celebrate Cyrus's birthday at the weekend and as far as I know from looking at the pictures Darius wasn't with them so maybe it was because he was working on something? He wouldn't just miss Cyrus's birthday if it wasn't something important.

On a lighter note Stuart brayson did an interview the other day and right at the end he said FHTE will definitely be coming back to the UK next year and will be touring. He did say he was keen for it to involve British actors but no word on who will definitely be involved yet. Hopefully he will consider Darius for the role of warden again.

This is supposed to be going on tour at some point maybe next year but I also found out that Chicago is going back on tour next year. There is no cast announced for either show at the moment but if Darius was to be asked to join either cast which cast do people think he would join? Which show would people want him to do? It's difficult because I love FHTE But I'd like him to be involved with Chicago one last time because it was the first musical show he ever did.

Hi Polly....I'm just so glad that at long last we have heard of something he is likely to be involved with! There are several of his fans on Facebook who are going to/have already bought tickets. I don't think I will get involved as I just wouldn't have a clue what to do. Facebook friends have offered to help but I'm just not brave enough to try on my own!!
They do also say that guests are likely to change depending on Wifi connection....I would be so upset if he didn't appear! FHTE is my favourite musical he has appeared in so I hope the evening is a success and Darius shows up......hopefully with some news about what he intends to do next! I'm exactly like you I wouldn't know what to do either. I'm just hoping that after the event they let us know how it went and we get to hear some news. FHTE is my favourite too. I also think that if any of the guests did change it would be Darius because he is in lockdown in L.A and I imagine his internet connection wouldn't hold so it's not worth the risk buying a ticket. Another thing I've noticed on twitter is they keep advertising it and making a point of it being a one off event but that is making me think that maybe it won't be a one off and that there IS more to come. There will be a Q and A with the cast and crew and the one question I would love to know the answer to is Will it ever come back to the UK and if so will the original cast be involved? I hope someone asks that question and I hope the rest of us get to find out the answer.

Sim production asked people to post questions on twitter for the producers of FHTE so I asked the ultimate question on wether they will be bringing it back at some point. Musical theatre radio said what a good question does the production team want to answer this one but no one did. I guess I'll just have to wait till next week and hope that someone (who is going) asks the same question and we find out an answer. Just out of interest has anyone booked tickets for next week?

Tim said there is a lot of interest in a tour but he doesn't want to go too big too fast with it this time. He says that was the problem last time and that's why it didn't work. Hopefully they will take the time to get it right next time and it sounds like the original cast would be involved which is great 😀

Just told theatre fan (the person who printed the article) off by saying I hope he doesn't get people's hopes up by printing an article like that. At one point last night someone confused what Tim was saying. They thought he ment all theatre could be up and running by autumn 2021 and thats when Tim corrected them by saying he ment FHTE and that's how the articles come about. I hope Tim doesn't read it and think that him and Stuart have a set timeline. I hope it doesn't make them rush things. Maybe Tim shouldn' t of corrected the person who miss heard him.

Just to say that when asked what he had been up to Darius replied that he had been working on a concept album with the possibility of some tech making it a more audio visual experience.....but he couldn't elaborate!!??
I had to google what a concept album is and it is one that is 'unified by a theme, which can be instrumental, compositional, narative or lyrical'

Ooh sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing hopefully we will find out more when he can let us know. I remember a few years ago hearing that he was working on an album that would be mainly centred around jazz. I'm not a massive fan of jazz music (I'd prefer him to do an album with a bit more variety) but as it's Darius if that does turn out to be the concept I might give it a listen. Although maybe shouldn't get too excited because how long is it now that Darius has been promising a new album? Mind you it not happening this year is completely out of darius' control. With that and the possibility of a UK tour of FHTE hopefully next year(if theatres re open) sounds like there are very exciting things to come

FHTE will be screened at the mayflower theatre in Southampton on 16th Sept. There is discussion about it being screened in other theatres but obviously that is upto each individual theatre and obviously people might not want to travel to the cinema at the min but I just thought it was worth mentioning. I wish it was still on sky arts but I don't think that's going to happen unfortunatly.

When they did the virtual reunion in June it did seem that the four original main cast would still want to be involved although with Darius having to live in L.A at the moment due to lockdown (I've not heard that he's been able to come back to the UK yet) it might be a while till we get confirmation about Darius being involved but like you say we will have to wait and see. There is a meeting going on today about FHTE so hopefully we might get some news soon.

According to Twitter Tim rice is working on updates for FHTE. They are having meetings about how it would all work but obviously they can't say when rehearsals will start. I think Tim was hoping around march time but that would defiantly be pushing it. It's still all definitely in the pipeline though. Hopefully they will still consider at least the four original lead cast members but no official word yet. 🙂

Hi yea that was me my original account went haywire for a bit so I re registered I wasn't able to use the same name for that but then my original one started working again anyway so I just decided to go back to that one. The video wasn't what I expected either and it looked like they had a few problems with sound and the screens kept freezing. The documentary sounds very interesting. I hope we get to see it over here. There is also a chance for people to watch FHTE again on the the show must go on YouTube channel on Friday at 7pm I think it will be available for 48 hours for anyone who wants to watch it again. Wherever Darius is right now I hope he is safe and well.

Some are just rude 😡 which I ignored but some that I read were people saying D has a full on American accent now. I must not know the difference between the two accents because he still sounds Scottish to me except for when he's singing and maybe the odd word like when he says song but I wouldn't agree that it's a full on accent. Did anyone else notice an American accent? Even if he did have a bit of an American accent it's not surprising given he's lived there for about a decade 😂

2019 has now been put back up on Darius's IMDb for the release date of Natasha's film that Darius produced. This probably means it's already been released in the U.S back then and we won't get to see it ☹️ although it does say country of origin the U.K. Has it been released over here and I've just missed it? I forgot to say funny girl is on sky arts. I haven't heard anything of him either other than the interview he did in Taylor's when he first got back. It seemed that the reason he came back from L.A. was to spend more time with his family since he's not been able to be with them for such a long time. I hope we do get to see House Red at some point. I have to admit the masked singer isn't a programme I watch I did watch it once and wasn't very keen myself I felt that I would be quite disappointed if Darius did appear on it. No offence to anyone that does watch it. Hopefully we might get some news about something that D is working on hopefully in the new year. The FHTE tour was ment to be happening next year but honestly with the state of things I seriously doubt it will be happening at all we'll just have to wait and see and hope things get back to normal enough for it to happen. I hope you have a lovely Christmas too and stay safe. Wishing Darius and his family a lovely Christmas too

Just thought I'd post an update I found out through Facebook. Someone saw a photo on Instagram of Darius and his family doing facetime on one of his brothers Instagram pages and Darius is living with his parents at the moment. They are all completely fine. It must be cyrus' Instagram page the photo is on because I follow Aria and it's not on his and cyrus' page is private so I can't see the pic. I'm glad they are all still ok 😊

I couldn't understand why some people thought Poodle might be Darius apart from maybe his height! The voice was nothing like D and I'd know his legs anywhere!! 
I had hoped that he might make an appearance on the show as it would mean he wanted to get back into the public eye as he had something to promote! Will appeared and he has a tour coming up....just a shame we can't say the same for Darius!!

I've just read that Titanic the musical is starting at the Charing cross theatre in march 2023. If this is true FHTE won't be running for very long again just like last time 😞 hopefully if it goes well this time round they will move FHTE to another theatre by the time Titanic starts. Hope they do move it to another theatre and they don't just cut FHTE again.

Apparently people have been getting emails looking like they are actually from D. Someone picked up on the fact that because D doesn't use social media the page has been hacked. Hi Polly.....I'm still here! I've just got back from a few days away. I think a few of us still pop in to see if there is any news.....you seem to always be one of the first to find out anything! ....and I'm sure we all appreciate it! It's wonderful that FHTE is going to be given another chance on the West End. It would be great if D had been working on other projects while he waited to take up his role as Warden again - I wonder how long it will be before the cast is announced!? Even if Darius isn't involved, FHTE is still my favourite musical and I think I will probably book to see it again and find out what changes have been made. Please keep posting any news when you can - that is for as long as Buzzjack still want us, of course!

Just read the article and everyone involved in the production ( apart from Stuart and Tim of course) are completely different. It sounds like a lot of changes have been made! I won't hold my breath about Darius being involved but still curious to find out the differences made. I love the story and the music.....maybe more music has been added..... it will be interesting!

I did see a picture of Gerard and his girlfriend about a month ago so I think they are still together. Something tells me Darius and Gerard might of been working together recently but on what I'm not sure. The dog belongs to Gerard. I love how he's making D walk it for him while he's just on his phone.

Just heard a rumour that Jade Thirlwall (little mix) has been nominated to be on the committee for a new series of pop idol next year along with DJ Mark Ronson🤔. There is meant to be a one off programme on this year looking at what past contestants have been up to since the show and what their experiences were like on the show which Darius is supposed to be taking part in.

I've just got back from a few days away. I think a few of us still pop in to see if there is any news.....you seem to always be one of the first to find out anything! ....and I'm sure we all appreciate it! It's wonderful that FHTE is going to be given another chance on the West End. It would be great if D had been working on other projects while he waited to take up his role as Warden again - I wonder how long it will be before the cast is announced!? Even if Darius isn't involved, FHTE is still my favourite musical and I think I will probably book to see it again and find out what changes have been made. Please keep posting any news when you can - that is for as long as Buzzjack still want us, of course! Julie

Such a shame.....Darius was soooo good as Warden! In fact, I thought all the characters were well cast!I wonder if the new cast will be newcomers or 'star' names.... we will see!

I was excited about the revival at first. We've been waiting for so long for it and with the way they were talking at the virtual reunion I thought at least the four main original cast members would still be involved and it would of been an opportunity for us to see D again. Now we know it's going to be a completely new cast I'm starting to wonder whether we will ever see him again at all. 😞

The news was announced by his family on Tuesday afternoon.

Kym Marsh quit Hearsay at the very beginning of 2002. Darius was part way through the Pop Idol finals at that point so if approached, I doubt he’d have been interested.
From what I remember that did their own Pop Idol audition process to replace Kym and ended up picking a close friend.

To be left alone, the family should simply be honest about whether Darius was physically or mentally ill or both or neither. When they just tell why he was at the Mayo Clinic, tabloids and Twitter will stop speculating. They kept the news of his death to themselves for five days, which I get, but I don't get their behavior now. It almost seems as if they want to keep Darius in conversation for the next few weeks.

It's because they DON'T KNOW. NOBODY KNOWS, HOW or WHY Darius died at this point or WHY he was in that flat in those hospital grounds.This is why it's being investigated. If his family want privacy to grieve then they have a right to ask for that. Everyone needs to remember Darius was a HUMAN BEING and a FAMILY has lost their SON AND BROTHER as it said in the statement. I'm sure the last thing they would want is people coming to their own conclusions or speculating. I believe if they knew anything they would of told us in the statement. Everyone show some respect please.

I didn't think his family would be allowed to have it until the toxology report came through but at least they have been allowed to bury him and not had the extra agony of having to wait until the results come through. Today I found out through Facebook that the reason D's funeral was able to go ahead is because an inquest will happen later in the year it will have been opened but adjourned to allow his funeral to happen. Don't get me wrong I would love to hear New songs from D but I don't think I'd like to hear someone else singing them. If his family wanted to release the album on his behalf I'd be happy. If it's ready of course! but I believe it should be his family's choice now. No one else's unless they say it's ok.

The article the other day was actually someone saying in COURT that D leaked information to his cousin that someone tried to SECRETLY sell off part of Celtic rangers. The club have dismissed claims D leaked any information at all saying the person in court is just using it as a distraction to defer from any wrong doing on their part at the club. I think they only brought D into it because he supposedly worked at the club at the time. How dare they use D's name in this. The poor man has tragically died recently leave him to rest in peace and think about his poor family. They are going through enough at the moment without reading stuff like this and other articles. 😡 this is today's article if it's appropriate to post.

There is an opiod crisis in the US. People take them for ailments, etc, and sometimes get addicted, sometimes don't, but that isn't all-important. What happens is the opiod loses its effectiveness, and to manage the pain, real or through addiction, the user has to increase the dosage incrementally. At some point, the dosage becomes lethal.

On hine sight I would of rather not known the result of the toxology report. I hope it wasn't because of addiction or intentional and I hope it was just a tragic accident but I guess we will never know for sure. No offense is meant to his family in this post.

Don't get me wrong I would never want to say a bad word about Darius normally or hear a bad word said about him from anyone it's just such a difficult situation to accept. Someone mentioned on Facebook that apparently he'd been in another car accident recently and it put him back in a neck brace. I don't know if that's true or not I haven't seen anything about it myself. Has anyone else? if it is true poor man. He must of been in so much pain, tragic accident
I'm regretting my earlier post . May he rest in peace and I wish to send much love to his family and friends. I'm still hoping his family might release the album on his behalf if it was ready.

That explains the opiod then, if he had just been in another accident Following chronic pain management, he will probably have felt like he needed a higher dose to feel the effects, and the accident happened. But it was just an accident

Found a YouTube video of Darius on Buzzcocks some time between Popstars and Pop Idol.
Of course they mocked Darius in jest. All the guests expect that.
Darius was on the late great Sean Hughes team and his self deprecating humour really shows.
I don't know how to get the video on here and I daren't try in case get locked out.

It's part of the Best of Sean Hughes.

I've just watched the video but like yourself I couldn't share the video which is a shame because it's really funny and I think it might of cheered everyone up a bit. You can tell D is still just a teenager in it

Re a possible op, the surgeon told him there was a danger to his vocal chords.
Darius was contracted for several events in the summer and the History of the Big Bands tour in the autumn. The musicians had all been chosen and contracts signed. If the reason to have the op wasn't apparently urgent or the prognosis of success not extremely high, Darius wouldn't let people down. We don't know what was said, although Darius said in an interview much later that his was a compression injury like Christopher Reeve's. Poor Christopher(Superman) was paralysed. Maybe that was on Darius's mind too.

His health should of been more important than the tour regardless of contracts signed.

Thanks, Polly. It's nice to see FHTE come back to the West End. It deserved a longer run but the time wasn't right for more dramatic shows like FHTE. The jukebox musicals reigned back then.
Darius wasn't going to do it anyway. He was moving on to lead a new cast in another original
West End show 'Cleopatra'.
The Original London Cast recording of FHTE (and the film) features Darius.
At least we got the answer to the question-which golden age of Hollywood legend's shoes would he fill next in one of his most iconic roles? - Richard Burton as Caesar.
It would have been his 4th original lead in a relatively short space of time.
OK had a look. Adam Rhyd - Charles will play Warden.
In another of those weird coincidences, he last performed in Curtains in the West End. Jill came straight from Broadway Curtains to play Scarlett opposite Darius's Rhett.

Much like I felt, I suppose, when South Pacific was being revived with Samantha Womack as Nelly in 2011 and the producers wanted Darius to play Emile opposite her and he wouldn't do it.
We couldn't understand why not.
The producers waited until the eleventh hour for Darius to change his mind and finally brought over Paulo Szloti(?) from Broadway.
AT the time I speculated it was because he'd recently got engaged to Natasha Henstridge.
Turned out he couldn't because he was in midst of an audition process for a lead role in a pilot for ABC TV in America. He got it and the filming clashed with what would have been his first transfer to Broadway.

We know that Darius had been in discussions about the Pop Idol reunion, whatever form it will take and getting ready to star in another brand new musical. Creating a new show is a arduous task. It takes a lot of stamina. That done, it's 8 shows a week, daytime publicity and meeting people after the shows. Darius knew what it would take he'd done it twice before.
The Mayo Clinic is one of the most prestigious in the US and has treated lots of very famous people for various ailments. Darius probably thought that if he went to the best place, they'd find the answer and reduce the chronic pain to tolerable for coming home and doing what he loved best... Performing and making people happy.
If Darius was an outpatient receiving regular treatment he'd have needed to stay locally.
If there was the slightest chance of recognition and they linked Darius to Simon Cowell or Natasha, the news would have quickly spread, although he was relatively unknown himself
Hence the different registration name for the flat. Morgan can be either sex and Brown is a very common name. The reception wouldn't be surprised to see a guy sign in.
He'd have to have given the clinic his proper name for his medical records and health insurance.

I was listening to some of D's b-sides yesterday and one is a proper earworm today. I can't stop singing snatches out of it out of the blue when I'm doing other things today.
Pretty common reaction to Darius's songs But what's weird is it's my least favourite other than the one with the French, whose name escapes me.
I don't think I played Sexy Individual more than a dozen times and now it's haunting me!

His lyrics were my touchstone. There was always one which helped to heal or inspire. I started with YouTube, mainly music. I watch a lot of Darius videos on the channel called
"Meghamtoo", type it in. It's a treasure trove.
Megham used to post on here. She went to anything Darius did with camera, if she could and he and the venues were often happy to let her video or take pictures.
My favourite set is the the one Darius did for Marie Curie... The Impossible Dream still singing it like the duet with Roland's sections just slightly higher, Colourblind with his guitar and Falling Slowly from the film/ musical Once.
And there's even the Des O'Connor Elvis medley where Darius wears the gold suit and sings Teddy Bear. The young boy is Declan Galbraith.

I've been able to listen to colourblind which I was ok with but can't bring myself to listen to any others yet. I think I'm going to stay away from live twice and D's version of I've got you under my skin. He came over to me and sang that on his tour and the memories might make me cry, and of course I'm going to definitely stay away from Caledonia. Thanks for telling me about the channel. Still can't believe all this is happening. Keep hoping someone has made a mistake somewhere along the line. I don't mean any offense with that statement as I'm sure his family have been wishing the same thing over the last month but sadly not to be

Polly, Re Gérard in Minnesota, perhaps he volunteered to do that task which is so very daunting but must be done after a bereavement... clearing the flat.
I should imagine Darius's family would only be able to bring back the most personal and sentimental possessions and legal documents.
Feel so sorry for Gerard. He couldn't even pretend to smile. The photo looks unbalanced with the fan smiling broadly, having met Gérard and he looking so very sad.

Sorry if anyone gets offended by the next thing I post but it's just something playing on my mind. This article actually appeared in another online paper aswell. The daily mail I think it was and in the middle of it there is a video. Thinking it would be a tribute to D I played it then I saw what was written at the top of it. It was actually the 911 call made to the authorities when D was found unresponsive. I'm sorry but whoever has released that to the press needs suing. Can't imagine any of his family or friends have anything to do with it or even know about it. I hope they never hear it and I'm not going to post it here because it's definitely not appropriate but I just needed to get it off my chest how HORRIFIC I think it is to release it to the press as I'm sure everyone else will think aswell

Oh Polly, So sorry you found that. It was up on the net just days after the shock announcement.
Please stick to trusted sites, maybe also stick to UK sites.
I have to warn you that there are some really ghoulish photoshopped (badly) National Enquirer type scoop "news" images out there, probably riddled with computer viruses, supposedly showing Darius's flat and even his American funeral complete with open casket. Despicable!
They do things like that after any famous person's passing. .
I read back some pages in this thread. I saw T boy's post confirming we can keep this thread going.. I'm grateful because talking here has definitely helped me.
We still have real news - there was a motion recognising Darius's contribution to entertainment and charity, in the Scottish Parliament. It was signed by members from all political parties.

Tamara Harvey who directed From Here To Eternity when Darius starred as Warden is to be one of the 2 co-directors of the Royal Shakespeare Company. I think she'll be a breath of fresh air.
Nope, still can't listen to Caledonia. Got emotional enough when I listened to Journey's End today.
There is something really haunting about the top range of Darius's voice when he sings those deeply personal to him songs from 2003/4.
It was a tough time for him. He was working so hard then he and Jacqui split up because of work. Jacqui had long term commitments in Hong Kong and New York. You could tell at the Dive In tour that they really loved each other.
He got writers block too. Remember the skinhead. But he got back on track and made a guest appearance on PI 2, at final 3 stage, singing Right Girl Wrong Time. He was very encouraging to Mark, Sam and Michelle on the show and PI Extra.
Went back to record in the US and soon got the news that his beloved father had terminal cancer.

I posted this in the Dive In Review thread. Thought I'd bring it over. Didn't add a review. I've always been a touch biased Re Darius.
It's interesting that the most popular tracks Colourblind, Rushes and Mockingbird were all written by Darius before he ever met Simon Cowell.
16 year old Darius wrote the lyrics for Rushes on the back of 5 bus tickets on the way to school.
'Popstars' Darius complete with pony tail and goatee and wearing a bandana, sang Mockingbird at the Live and Loud festival in Glasgow a couple of months before Pop Idol.
I used to have the live version. Sadly I seem to have lost it. Maybe someone else still has lt?
Colourblind had already been produced to demo by Deni Lew and Pete Glennister (The Misfits), who produced most of Dive In.
Darius turned up to Pop Idol with his guitar because the producers had agreed to let him sing his own song.
In the audition room he asked to sing his own song. The judges were OK with that but the executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe (the guy who cut Darius from Popstars), refused and sent him out to reenter without the guitar.
When Cowell had Darius locked into BMG via Pop Idol's final 10 contract, Darius handed him the demo of Colourblind. For less than a minute Simon had both Darius and Colourblind!
Just enough time for him to throw the demo tape onto the table and instruct Darius to report to Pete Waterman's studio the following Monday.
Yesterday I found my old CD of Darius in Pop Idol. Another of those weird circular co - incidences in D's life... The song he plucked out of the air to sing instead of Colourblind was Future Love Paradise by Seal.
Only 4 years later Darius had a Hollywood girlfriend whom he met at a pedestrian crossing, in LA and they were close friends with Seal and Heidi Klum.

How's everyone doing? If it's appropriate to post the pop idol reunion show was due to be recorded on Wednesday just gone. When I first posted here I said I'd resigned myself to the fact Darius was gone.. Actually I haven't. I feel his loss much deeper now.. I feel empty, rudderless..
Thanks for the PI info. It'really sad to think how close he was to coming home. So tragic! I think they should show Darius's 2 totally different performances on the pop idol tour.
Let There Be Love was a master class in how to use a stage for a classy performance of swing music. In 5 minutes Darius set the scene, complimented the audience, and thanked them, did Sean Connery's "shaken not stirred when proffered a drink, played the intro melody of his song on the piano, sang and at the instrumental break, introduced Simon Collum on piano. Loosened his bow tieand invited the audience to " give it up for the Big Blue " then back to the piano before finishing the song. His vocals were so smooth like melting chocolate whether he was seated or moving gracefully around the stage. There was a well timed pause before his final notes.
That's when I knew Darius was the only pop idol I'd ever need. He could take on different styles, invest them with a suitable character and sing in it. A consummate perrformer.
Looking at it now, I think Pete Waterman was right. Given such raw talent, I think Darius could have been every bit as good as Michael Buble, maybe even better

I've only listened to a bit of it but I think it's literally just music all the way through and Darius sings the words I'm just chilling every now and again and that's it and when I say music it reminds me of old style supermarket music 🤣 Joking aside it's still hard to believe he's no longer with us. I thought listening to these songs would upset me but strangely they are giving me comfort somehow.🥲

The I'm Just Chilling one was Darius's composition piece for his Scottish Higher Music exam in 1997.
There are some 1997 Higher papers online but I haven't found the Music one yet.
Anyway I don't think the instructions he had to follow for this would be in past papers. It's more like an art student submitting a portfolio of work.
There would be strict guidelines and every criterion would have to be included and well executed to get a good grade.
Darius would've worked on it throughout the term and probably had to record a log of every step to the finished piece.
I haven't listened to it carefully enough to work out whether Darius played the instruments himself.
As you know, he could play guitar, violin, piano and saxophone by then. Also had to play recorder in Primary school.

Wow I knew he could play guitar, piano, saxophone and I knew he learned the recorder at school. He talks about that with Cyrus when he picks him up from school in his dvd and he could sing and act too but I never knew he could play violin. He really was a man of many talents. I still miss him a lot and still can't believe he's gone.

One of the Saturday morning shows once made Darius to play all of them one after the other.
Did you know Darius also did Shakespeare? He was in a production of Romeo and Juliet at the Edinburgh Festival. He played Mercutio, Romeo's best friend.

I wish them all the best and hope they have a nice long run. I won't be going. If it ever tours I may. I haven't been in London since I went to Funny Girl at the Savoy.
Watching the Dvd again made me so sad. One of my favourite scenes was the Ain't Where I Wanna Be scene.
Darius went into the show right after he and Natasha separated.
That must have been hard enough but if Darius was also in physical pain, I can't imagine how he was after slamming down backwards from his full height onto a stage and 5 minutes later repeating the fall backwards from a seated position in this scene 8 times a week.

I don't want to make anyone feel worse but I can't believe it's officially two months since D passed away. It feels like it's gone by so fast (to me it has anyway). Still hard to believe he's not here anymore 😭

September whizzed by so fast. I'm beginning to actually start seriously thinking about Christmas although I don't usually until November.
Re Darius I'm concentrating more on his legacy rather than his loss.
For 20 years Darius has been my inspiration. In crises or doubt, something I remembered Darius saying or a song lyric would strike a chord and re-energise and motivate me to rise above the negativity and deal with whatever it was one step at a time.
As fans we are so lucky to have many special and personal memories to continue to inspire us because Darius was always so accessible, so open-hearted and so inclusive. Frankly I've had a real virtual Darius immersion session. I think it was important for me. We all grieve in different ways and that and the accompanying reflection and the power of prayer was my way.
"Onward and upwards!"
