Old thread has hit 50 pages!
Not really enjoying this at the moment tbh I must be one of the few who liked Stuart Blackburn's time lmao. It's the same as with Emmerdale, Kate Oakes seems to rely on endless affair plots and pregnancies to keep the show going
I'm the opposite, Stuart Blackburn's tenure was a chore to watch, very little of interest happened, while now it's picked up considerably! Sinead used to be my least favourite character for instance but I really like the pairing of her and Daniel.
I didn't like Stuart's time btu Kate Oates is just as bad It's still a chore to watch for me, I wouldn't say it's worse because that would be very hard to do but it's certainly not much better. It's all so Kate Oates and given what she did to some of the characters at Emmerdale that isn't a good thing.
As for the Ken rumours last thread, I really don't think they'll kill him off. Bill Roache won't leave until he's dead or dying I think maybe he'll just be attacked by one of them.
Sinead is the worst character on TV rn
I think it's really picked up since Kate took over.
People keep saying the quality has improved a lot but I don't find myself drawn to return to the show. I keep dipping in and out, but everything feels so incredibly plot-driven - most recently this Ken whodunnit. Watching the trailer, it just feels like a compilation of every cliche going and I don't find myself caring because you just know it's not going to be Tracy or Peter and the others haven't been in the show a substantial amount for you to particularly care about their motives or the prospect of them leaving the show or whatever.
At the moment I'd easily bet it was either Amy putting the money behind the clock or Adam collecting that money that made Ken hear something, he came back down the stairs and innocently tripped over.
Therefore the only blame that can be placed is if Amy/Adam heard a crash down the stairs and failed to go and check what it was.
Amy was acting very suspiciously after the fall so I definitely think she at least heard him fall or saw what happened!
Just when I'd said Sinead was growing on me, she uses "wasn't thinking straight" as an excuse for aborting her and Daniel's baby
Sounds as if he was pushed as cops start questioning all his family and Phelan and Sinead next week.
What does it sound like?
Sinead's accent tho.....
Denise Osbourne could be set to make a comeback:
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/news/a825074/coronation-street-bringing-back-denise-osbourne-denise-black-spotted-back-filming/
It's been all but confirmed since her Emmerdale character was killed off.
Some of Phelan's extended family are to come in to it including his daughter. Seb is his grandson! Some people on DS guessed that they were related but neither know yet.
Yeah it was always obvious she'd come back, I never believed the rabid theories that Daniel killed her It was clear the whole reason she left Emmerdale was for this.
Daniel's acting the most innocent which kinda makes me believe it was him who pushed Ken
But yeah, it's either him or Denise.
Could be Eccles the dog.
Ken really is the worst actor I've ever seen but he's becoming great for unintentional comedy value.
Ken is a bad actor, always was, but his saving grace is Dev makes him look like an Oscar winning performer.
I adore her but Sally Dynevor can't cry for shit.
did she have him when she was 10?
Shona is Clayton's mum. Ew.
They legit look about the same age, she could've just been his sister surely? The teen mum thing is a norm in soaps but they could've cast someone who looks old enough to be his mother, or someone who looks young enough to actually be 16 and be her son. You can tell they just added this in later as an afterthought.
Reading about Bethany's storyline for next week makes me feel physically sick. Very hard hitting storyline.
I can't deal with how beautiful Adam Barlow is.
This whole "who pushed Ken" crap needs to stop when we all know it's more than likely Denise who did it
christ some of the acting tonight....
Rob is daddy tbh but why bring him back He's jailed for 25 years, he has to hide or someone will see him and call the police so is it just gonna be him and Tracey all the time and her keeping the secret until he gets chucked back inside?
Another reason this who pushed Ken storyline needs to end - that annoying as f*** copper who looks like Mary
Think the who killed Ken reveal will be during the BGT semis week. Won't be Amy. Either Rob or Denise for me now.
It will be Denise I imagine, BGT week seems right for a big reveal and a big return.
Here's a DS post from a guy who claims he works on Corrie. We on there believe he does as he's been spot on with some info before.
I'm having to be careful with what I share at the moment because this is one of the most important times of the year for the show but thought I'd pop in and wet some appetites.
I've seen most of the BGT week episodes in portions and they're looking great. It is my job to think that but regardless I think you'll all be pretty excited. There's a deliberate strategy to avoid leaking most of the big plot points at the moment, some of the recent insider leaks have been deliberate misinformation being shared. I've seen various predictions shared and I think speculation is heading in the right direction in some cases but wildly off for at least one storyline. Don't rule out anyone just yet in the Ken storyline, even if they have been on screen. Also don't expect to see the responsible party leaving just yet, if at all. The decision on who would be the culprit was made a long while ago and ignore the media reports, the whole cast has known throughout filming. Billy and Todd will be getting a kid soon(ish), expect to see their living situation change. Phelan has his commupance coming, but not until the Autum. Nick will be filming for a few months yet, I don't think I've seen anyone correctly guess his exit storyline. Denise won't be around for long, at the moment. The Bethany storyline will be wrapping up relatively soon and will be getting a lot darker before you see the payoff you probably want, but I think the payoff will be worth it. This is Kate's first big storylines coming full circle and I think it's going to go down very well.
Sounds good to me. Corrie's back on top form and unmissable imo again now.
That was dark and disturbing to watch that scene with Bethany just.
Well apparently it gets a lot darker still before Nathan's exposed.
leanne's new hair......
I saw this for the first time in ages the other day, the actress who plays Bethany is one of the worst actresses I've ever seen.
i think she's brilliant
Ao did Tracy actually do Ken?
No, the worst actress is that one in the fish shop who screams every line.
Tracy obviously didn't push Ken
Denise did it, and I'd imagine Daniel's involved because we've barely see him recently..
The Maria/Shayne Ward/Eva crap needs to die.
WHO THE f*** WOULD WANT FIZZ TO BE THEIR MASSEUR.
Tyrone that's who.
"When have you seen The Birds?!"
"Nana Blanche used to put it on for me when I had trouble sleeping"
According to The Sun, a 'favourite' female character is returning to the soap.
ITS CARLA
Oh.
Thinking it could be Karen or even Raquel at an long shot, Shelley even.
Elated ofc as she's possibly my fave Corrie character ever but they ruined her and I can't see what there is for her to come back for. Knowing Kate Oates it'll be her and Peter have an affair again, but Peter ends up back with Toyah again afer leaving her for Carla
Carla's exit was awful but the show's in a MUUUUCH better state now so I'm really quite excited about her return!
Actually I forgot about Johnny ending up as her real father, so at least she has a loose sort of family to slot into, it's not like a really random character coming back for no reason and having nowhere to fit.
I don't feel like the character has been rested long enough. I had always hoped she'd return and I kinda guessed it would be inevitable, but the amount of crap she had to endure in her last couple of years really drained the life out the character, so I'd have preferred it to be another year or two before she came back.
Knew she would be back. I always found her completly over rated by Corrie fans, i always found her style of acting as whiney.
I want bitchy Carla back. I remember she gave Trace a run for her money back in her early days.
way too soon
Feel physically sick over the Bethany storyline taking another vile twist next week.
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/news/a829361/coronation-street-producer-kate-oates-fuels-kevin-erica-affair-rumours/
Why do I only realise I fancy Daniel when he's sweaty, angry and threatening?!
DENISE YAAAAAAAAAASSS
Am I missing something - why is Daniel acting SO OTT? I can't decide whether he's overacting or it simply hasn't been mentioned why his childhood was so shitty yet. I don't have the best of memories
I thought I'd tune in for this week but I've found it just as dull as last year's so far.
why is daniel being so extra over nothing
And I thought Tuesdays episode with Daniel was a bit too over the top..
Lara, the girl who had obviously just slept with one of Nathan's mates, looked around 14. Grim.
Oh and I was GUTTED Nick didn't die. A truly vile character who has NEVER been interesting to watch.
holy f*** some of the acting tonight..........
I preferred Nick when he was played by Adam Rickett.
The transition from that really emotional adoption scene to Daniel furiously taking drugs last night tho !!! Omg
The Maria/Shayne Ward affair makes me want to kill myself.
Daniel off his face on coke was actual LIFE
i adored those Bethany/Mary scenes.
^ Same. I love serious Mary, rather than the usual comedy Mary we constantly get.
Some will be happy to hear that Debbie Rush has quit her role as Anna Windass.
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/news/a832313/debbie-rush-quits-coronation-street-anna-windass/
I liked her back in the day but she's so insufferable now
And just @ Chesney's reaction to being stabbed
What is the point in Brian Packham?
My weekly Adam Barlow is extremely beautiful post. GOOD GOD.
"what about these homemade chicken kievs?!"
"a hope thur nyceeee!"
"they'll be mint!!!"
KILL ME.
It's not fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrr how they keep subjecting us to Sinead...
More Mary and less Chesney trying to act pls
Madeleine West back in Neighbours and now Adam Barlow serving bulge and ass, the soap gods love us today *.*
Return for Carla Connor at Christmas.
keep it
Arguably the best modern Corrie actress so yay for that fact alone.
Kate Oates has promised a new direction for her, so that has me optimistic that her return will be better than her exit plus the show is far better now than it was then!
I LOVED nasty/bitchy Carla when she first started out. Then we had Victim Carla who was an insufferable MESS to watch.
We are getting waaaaaaaay too much Chesney. Jesus Christ
Corrie is the one soap I record. I dip into others if there is a major cast change or storyline which grabs me.
I hate the media revealing twists long before they're broadcast.
OMGGGGGG
Corrie pulling off a genuine surprise
The timing of it was really good - I never thought that Phelan had killed Andy in the first place but I'd kind of forgotten all about him. Congratulations to Corrie for pulling off a genuine twist.
my shower is free whenever
I think there's some cold water required right here on the board! lol
Vote for your favourite Corrie actress (including Kym Marsh, Catherine Tyldesley or suggest your own) in my fun picture survey covering soaps, music, TV and sport:
http://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/9B8Z8ZH
Many thanks
Marys son could also use my shower
Mary is the best character in soap right now.
Love Mary. Time to make Norris less moany.
i really liked those group scenes with Sarah.
For anybody wondering what's happening to Friday's episodes, it's on tonight (Sunday 3rd) at 7pm for an hour.
Tina brought back to life in the latest ep
Rana has feelings for Kate doesn't she? I cba with Kate Oates making another affair storyline to split up a perfectly good couple.
Confirmed that the 6th episode during the week will be on a Wednesday, meaning double episodes all week, starting from September 20th.
Mary is just brilliant, i know she is a love or hate character but im on the love side.
I used to hate her, now I think she's wonderful
This Phelan crap is really doing my head in now, how much longer are they gonna drag him out as some invincible villain
Not Kate Oates setting up another cheating/affair thing lmao
Jenny is really becoming a great character, she has some excellent comedy lines. I really do enjoy her scenes with Gemma.
I love Eva and I've really enjoyed this revenge storyline...but then it comes to a climax with Eva confessing she still loves him/getting back with him? Okaaaay. How anticlimatic
Rita and Gemma together are EVERYTHING.
Maria needs putting in her box. She has an affair with her best friends fella, then does the baby reveal, i hope she gets her just deserts.
Gemma and Rita also have great scenes but i slightly prefer the Jenny and Gemma scenes. The show has an excellent balance of comedy at the moment. Jenny, Gemma, Mary are delivering some great moments. Sally and Gina also deliver some funny scenes too as does Norris.
WTH at the roof disappearing?!
Starting from October 2nd, ITV3 are going to be airing double bills weekdays from 2:40pm of classic episodes from 1986 onwards.
Autumn trailer is here. #spoilers
Seb has HIV
Loving corrie atm and the Autumn trailer looks like we've a lot more to look forward too
Anyone else think it will be Bethany who dies on the traintracks or could that be too obvious? I've also read spoilers that Craig identifies a body, surely if it was Mel then he wouldn't identify her?
Moira makes me HOWL
Finally the bast*rds have been found guilty.
I think Lucy Fallon should surely be in line for Best Soap Performance or Actress in upcoming awards for her role in the controversial storyline.
Katy is being killed off off-screen next week!
When I first saw the headline that a major character was being killed off-screen, I assumed it might have been Alec Gilroy following Roy Barraclough's death back in June. This just seems like a pointless decision that does nothing other than put Joseph permanently back in Chesney's life, despite there being no problem with having him visit occasionally until the character is old enough to do something with.
Although, I suppose with it being revealed that Billy is somehow responsible for Susan Barlow's death in 2001, who also died in a car crash, perhaps this news is what spurs his guilt up again?
Anyone been watching classic corrie on itv3 in the afternoons? I'm enjoying it more than current corrie atm
I was wanting to watch them on iPlayer but apparently there's some fault and you can't watch them on there at the moment.
Thankfully there's a couple of YouTube channels that have tonnes of full episodes.
Did Sinead really just f***ing propose to Chesney literally minutes after he'd been told that the mother of his child had been killed in a car crash?
I'm so fed up of this Phelan shite
I find Phelan extremely watchable!! Conor McIntyre plays him to perfection, an excellent villain. The twist tonight was so cruel, I always thought Andy might not make it out alive but this was quite uncomfortable, yet amazing drama. I don't want it to drag on forever cause he needs his comeuppance before long really but I'm intrigued to see how far he'll go.
As far fetched as it is - I've really enjoyed the Phelan storyline - mainly because of the performance of Connor McIntyre. Tonight's episode (the scenes around this episode anyway) was great. Connor, Oliver and Ian all played the story out well.
Although Phelan's character has been largely unlikable to most - there has always been that little shred of decency or humanity (keeping this totally separate from his darker past deeds) just visible enough to make you at least want to understand him. Tonight though - he has crossed the line enough to make his comeuppance welcome.
Big news today is tht Bruno Langley (Todd) has been dropped due to a sexual assault allegation from a woman in a nighclub. He's gotten so much better as a character with Billy and Summer. And it's gonna be one of those rushed leave a note "soz I've randomly upped and left to go to Kuwait" things as he was immediately dropped and his last appearance is apparently Christmas Eve. But if he did do it then they obv have to fire him really :/
There has to be more behind the Bruno story that has been kept from the public. Without doubt, it will all come eventually.
Confirmed to have been charged with 2 counts of sexual assault, eeeeek.
With the charge been made, it looks like he is guilty.
Quite a lot of complaints in regards to last Fridays episode with Andy and Vinny being killed off.
A reunion for Steve and Tracey this Christmas: http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/news/a842522/coronation-street-tracy-barlow-steve-mcdonald-reunite-christmas/
Don't really see the point of this or why Steve would even be up for this, plus it kind of spoils Becky's fantastic exit storyline.
They really are struggling for things to do with Tracey aren't they?
I'm out. Call me when they've finished doing a hatchet job on Mary's character
No Corrie now until Monday due to football on Friday.
Good
Watching scenes which involve Sinead trying to bond with Joseph make me want to stab myself.
Faye is f***ing rancid.
My heart broke for Mary
Shayne Ward is leaving Corrie for good next spring!
Hopefully Faye will be gone when Anna goes, but I feel like she'll die or sth and Faye will just stay with Tim
Confirmed today that they'll be tackling male rape with David being assaulted.
Jack's a brilliant actor so I'm sure he'll do it justice.
It shouldn't have gone to him I think.
So apparently Bethany takes the baby out and he gets ill again and Mary's nowhere near. So what can it be? I thought, along with others on DS that it was something to do with her working with flowers, pollen allergy maybe.
It's becoming very misery porn for the Platts isn't it? Bold move for Corrie to tackle male rape and I'm sure Jack P Shepard will do it justice, but it seems a bit too much for one family after all they've been through recently. The show as a whole has a very bleak atmosphere about it and I don't know how much longer it can take it.
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/news/a844545/coronation-street-spoilers-fiz-stape-tyrone-dobbs-hit-the-rocks/
Absolutely THRILLING
TRACY
jesus CHRIST this double bill has been awful :/
Daniel is absolutely vile, how anyone thought he could portray a straight man I don’t know.
The extended Fiz scenes made me die
Beth is one of the most repugnant soap characters ever surely?
I bet it was one of the kids who set it on fire even though that would be a bit Hollyoaks
If only Sinead had choked on that wedding ring lmao
Imagine threatening to bash someone's head in with a brick over Sinead bloody Tinker
Chesney has turned into a f***ing psychopath lmao
Michelle's actual biologocial son Alex is returning Random af, but the storyline where him and Ryan were stopped was so pointless and quickly forgotten, I suppose at least they are doing something else with it. Apparently he gets a job in the medical center and settles in but doesn't want to make amends with Michelle.
Ooh now that's interesting!! They really did seem to forget about it quickly after it happened, I hope it's actually worthwhile.
Yas more Michelle
Sinead has to be one of the absolute worst characters in all of soap rn, they're trying so hard to give her something to do and she is such a bloody wet drip :/ There's more life in those racist businessmen's punctured tire than episodes centering around her and Chesneh.
Apparently Luke will die, this is a random source from DS Forum though
Sinead is awful i can only agree. She most certainly is someone who needs to leave.
Ffs
Why in the actual hell were the press there taking pictures of f***ing Sinead and Chesney?!? I cringed SO hard.
f*** me Sinead and Chesneh's wedding was painful :/ Do they think anyone actually cares about whether they lead their boring life of marriage mollycoddling Joseph in unity?
According to The Sun, Mirror and Metro today, Martin Platt is to return soon.
Will this Pat Phelan stuff ever end??
FFS 🤬
And this is her last appearance Say what you like about Anna but surely you can’t deny that after giving a decade of her life to the show the actress deserved better than that diabolical exit I just hope she’ll at least make one appearance when Phelan gets his comeuppance in like 2032 although I’m not sure how they’ll be able to explain her leaving her children on the street when she gets released from prison, or don’t tell she’ll never get justice
I hated what they did with Bethany tonight, her new job aside the way she just watched Gary get beaten without a blink and then was completely unsympathetic as he missed his own mum’s trial reminded me of the Bethany when she first returned to the Street. Obviously what Gary did was awful but I don’t think that’s worth forgetting everything he did with Nathan, the diet pills etc.
I’ve tried but Kate Oates is completely ruining this show, even under Blackburn it wasn’t half as bad as it is now :’)
Phelan needs to get caught out ASAP, it is ridiculous now Half the street knows or suspects it seems yet he just gts off EVERY bloody time. I'm not finding it remotely entertaining at this point, I know villains aren't meant to be likeable but for me any plot like this loses it when the villlain is stupidly treated as some invincible god just for the sake of a storyline. He'll probably get his comeuppance in the BGT live week, but good lord imagine another FOUR months of this :/ Perhaps now ANna is sent down he'll lay low for a bit and then maybe someone will find something to catch him out, but I doubt it given Kate Oates' fetish for him...
Yeah I'm done with the Phelan stuff. I've been enjoying it up until now, but I gave the biggest eyeroll when Anna was found guilty and Pat was sat smirking at the end. How f***ing DUMB does Eileen have to be? And wtf was with the random playing of Human at the end of the episode? I found it so awkward.
And yeah, I've no idea why they've turned Bethany into a raging c**t
Whatever the state of Bethany, Lucy Fallon is probably the best actress in the show at the moment alongside Alison King - thrilled she got the NTA!
The Phelan storyline has gone on far to long and at the point of i dont even care anymore.
Anna's outcome made a mockery of the whole storyline and it was the final straw for me.
Lucy Fallon was certainly worthy of her NTA's as she delivered some striking and emotional scenes in her grooming storyline. Alison King is an actress however i feel is totally overrated. I was so disappointed when i heard she was returning to the show.
What on earth is this baby swap surrogate nonsense? How far fetched and it's clearly going to go wrong when Eva and Aiden inevitably get back together and want the baby after all.
It's awful Am I missing something - why is Toyah not telling Peter about the surrogates miscarriage?
Is it only me who thinks Corrie is blowing the other soaps out of the water right now? It's must-watch TV every episode and the Phelan stuff is absolutely gripping. I just hope the conclusion is fitting!
Tonight's episodes were really well done too, some fantastic acting all round and nice to see some development in the Rana/Kate storyline again. Carla/Roy continues to be one of my favourite soap pairings ever
I keep trying to get back into it but just can't. It just feels quite hollow and emotionless. I don't mind Corrie doing dark but they need to get some original ideas. The killer who stops at nothing to cover his tracks and the innocent one who gets wrongfully imprisoned has been too many times now and it gets less interesting the more it's done.
I mean, Corrie's not EastEnders level bad but it's not the best atm. I'm so over the Phelan stuff, I'm not really fussed on the Rana/Kate storyline because I don't find either of them likeable, and the Eva/Toyah stuff is awful.
I do smile whenever Carla and Roy have scenes together tho and I'm looking forward to the male rape storyline because Jack's such a talented actor.
Random but did anybody catch the episode recently with Audrey/Gail/Sarah at the strip club? Now THAT was classic Corrie humour which had me laughing out loud
According to The Sun, this is how the Phelan story ends, with scenes to be filmed next week.
Eileen pushes him off a cliff in to the sea. He's missing presumed dead.
Phelan has got to be one of the worst soap characters ever. Like seriously f*** off
Kate Oates' cheating/affair fetish continues, ffs
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/news/a849306/coronation-street-spoilers-tyone-gemma-cheat/
The best villain ever in my view in corrie was Jez Quigley and Richard Hillman. They were both truly terrifying and not panto like Phelan.
I don't think it's giving Phelan anywhere near enough credit to call him "panto". He's a captivating actor and I love to hate the character, which is surely the aim.
He's not panto but the storyline is absolutely ridiculous now, thank god it seems to be coming to an end soon as he can't get away with it much longer.
Doesn't Eileen think "there's no smoke without fire" ffs
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/news/a851043/coronation-street-billy-mayhew-drugs-heroin-abuse-heaven-scene/
82 people have complained about Billy's heroin taking in church
I knew that would happen. People complain about anything on Corrie these days, it's ridiculous. The show it's better than it's been in YEARS, let's appreciate the fact that it's tackling taboo subjects in such an explicit way.
Think about the type of people who would actually write in to complain about a TV show though...
I really like Imran. I hope they give him a decent storyline soon! He's gorgeous too
https://twitter.com/tiredold/status/970751406159392775
The Phelan stuff has now hit the point of embarrassing,
thankfully the billy storyline is the best is the best in soapland
even if summer is a horrific actor
She speaks so slowly that half the cast has died of old age by the time she's finished her sentence.
So we have a date for Phelan's demise. Ironically Good Friday, 30th March, is when Eileen pushes him over the cliff in scenes filmed on location in Whitehaven. He doesn't die though as rumours are he's back to take hostages in a siege situation in BGT week.
Poor David
The David scenes at the end end of the episode were handled very well. It is a good storyline to tackle as the reality is, this is happening all the time and this is highlighting how easy it can happen to anyone.
Just caught up on last night's Corrie. Felt very sorry for David, I will be interested to watch the aftermath of it on Monday.
It was lovely hearing David actually open up to somebody, so for this to then happen to him... :/
LOCAL KEBAB SLAG
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/news/a852649/coronation-street-david-platt-rape-storyline-complaints-ofcom/
122 complaints so far. Can't those people just stfu
https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/5850355/nigel-havers-rula-lenska-return-coronation-street/
The Sun reporting Nigel Havers and Rula Lenska are coming back!
I watched Friday and tonight's episodes and I've found David's storyline to be handled extremely well. It was serious and sensitive as well as real and naturally portrayed.
yes i have to say i think it’s being handled incredibly well. i had somebody do something very similar to me when i was younger, i wasn’t entirely out of it so managed to fight them off but that still effected me dreadfully and i wouldn’t talk for a long time about it
it’s good to see relevant stuff like this being portrayed so sensitively and effectively; hopefully it will help those suffering in silence find strength and solace
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/news/a852803/coronation-street-david-platt-male-rape-boosts-helpline-calls/
Brilliant
Jack P Shepherd is the best actor on Corrie at the moment.
Jack's great but all we're getting is angry David...and he's always like that?
Carla to Ali " I need a new thing"
Hmm yeah a new bloke to get your end away with
Screaming at Carla shagging Ali mere hours after Michelle confided in her about what was going on LMAOOOO
Also living for Let It Go on loop repeat at Harry's birthday, Demi queen of royalties.
that’s v off kilter of carla
it’s the sort of shit that would destroy a friendship for good...
there’s not even the excuse of alcohol!
Carla with Ali is out of character but Carla is a character i cant stand and would have been happier if she never came back.
Isn't Ali just beautiful
YES
Sally's new wallpaper
"Where am I gonna live?!"
"Well tbh Gail, I couldn't give a monkeys"
The way David talks to his mother makes me howl
Good news for Kana fans for them getting some plain sailing perhaps, Zeedan is leaving soon!
Next week we discover the truth behind Jude Appleton's job. He's not a marine biologist. Mary's suspicions are raised when he seems to know little about the subject so she follows him. What can he be doing?
Tracey calling Steve and Leanne's kid thick was ICONIC
In a shocking development, Eva will lose the baby. She can't tell Toyah, so asks Nicola if she will give up her baby and Nicola agrees as it is the spawn of Pat Phelan. So basically, Eva gets hold of the baby, but has to pretend to Toyah it is hers, so then Toyah can pretend to Peter it is their child. Make the plot even more convoluted. Then Phelan will be back and try and abduct the baby, so he, the child and Nicola can run away together and be a proper family. This leads to his proper downfall, and Peter breaks off with Toyah as he feels that her actions put them at risk.
Nope they don't know that Eva is pregnant, I can't at Leanne just assuming she's fat I really don't get why Toyah didn't just tell Peter that Eva was going to have the baby for them? I'm sure Peter is fine as long as Toyah gets the baby she desperately wants, he's a grown man and has handled far worse in his life. It is clearly gonna go wrong all these wires being crossed. Like how does she know Peter won't bump into the surrogate or something and end up finding out? I know she "went away for a bit" but surely she's gonna have to come back.
What a MESS
It is a ridiculous addition to an already stupid storyline. They should have just told Peter that the surrogate had lost the baby but that they were going to have Eva's.
Ta ra Pat hun
Glad that's over but definitely a memorable conclusion! This is the best Eileen has been in AGES with something proper to do.
A SUPERB conclusion to a thrilling saga, Eileen getting her revenge was amazing and Sue Cleaver has been a joy to watch recently. Connor McIntyre will be missed but of course all villains get their comeuppance.
Of course he’ll be back for BGT week
One of the most thrilling episodes of Corrie in a while that was. Fantastic acting from Sue Cleaver.
I hope Sue/Eileen doesn't just drift into nothingness now She was incredible tonight!
Probably the best I've seen from Sue on Corrie. Still underrated for me as a character.
So is he dead or not?
^ there's nothing to say he *isn't* dead yet, it's just speculation. We only have Eileen's word to go off right now!
Eileen gets arrested on suspicion of murdering Andy and Vinny
FFS
For f***'s sake
typical
I assume it will come to a head in BGT week then, it better be good :')
Well we knew it wasn’t that easy to get rid!
Jesus is SHAKING
It was obvious he’d come back eventually but not them waiting less than two episodes 😂
I wonder Phelan made it to Ireland then.
Here we have David, dressed as John Travolta c.1977 last night.
I feel a bit sorry for Eileen. I think she's having to face up to how wilfully ignorant about Pat she's been but she's hardly the first. And even the people who thought he was a baddun didn't think he was necessarily capable of all that he was.
“a bit sorry”
i’d feel incredibly sorry for anyone who had realised they were married to a psychopathic serial killer!
sue cleaver has been FAB U LOUS in this week’s episodes
David's storyline is being played out fantastically - it's so hard to watch. Outstanding performances all round, but I hope somebody twigs that this is not normal behaviour from David sooner rather than late.
I wonder how they would have concluded Todd's storyline?
GOD I fancy the pants off Dave Platt
Shona looks fiercer than Maria.
Bet Maria wins.
That pig josh not stopping it, that fight. That's what he wanted a reaction from David. Shows how wrong it can go in the ring.
ShAme Davod didn’t clout Josh instead of Gary!
The Connors pretend they care about Gary. Or even remember who he is.
Hooray more eavesdropping. Simon will now blackmail Toyah now as well as being a little thief.
For anyone who wants to know what's coming up as the Phelan storyline edges towards it's dramatic voilent climax in BGT live-show week. Spoilers for anyone who doesn't want to know but doesn't give much away anyway.
Eileen is stalked
Eileen falls victim to a stalking campaign as several members of the Street continue to believe that she was complicit in Phelan’s crimes. As her tyres are put out, abusive online messages are sent and her back door key is swiped, she is worried about who could have it in for her. But is it actually Phelan himself?
There’s a campaign to release Anna
As Tim and Faye look for ways to secure Anna’s release now that Phelan’s evidence is more than shaky, Daniel puts together a press release for a campaign and Nicola encourages Eileen to add her voice to it. Could Anna be set to make a surprise return?
Abi returns
After being unsettled by noises in her home, Eileen comes across Seb’s mum Abi who has a lot of questions – but Eileen sits down with her and is open about everything that has happened. She then invites Abi to stay with her but could she end up regretting this?
Phelan bides his time
Having adopted a new identity, Phelan will next be seen on screen as he hides out at a caravan – but he certainly hasn’t forgotten everything that has happened in Coronation Street and all of the people against whom he still holds a serious grudge…
Gary could be the next victim
As Gary starts work on the campsite, he spots Phelan from afar and then sets about searching his caravan. But Phelan is lying in wait for him, armed with a baseball bat and launches an attack, emerging from the caravan alone. Has he killed Gary?
Nicola will go into labour
Pregnant Nicola will soon be due to give birth – but will Phelan be back by the time her waters break and could the stress of his return induce her labour and force Phelan to deliver his grandchild? Executive producer Kate Oates hinted that Nicola’s child would play a part in Phelan’s end – so could the newborn be in serious danger?
There could be late night specials and it's not known yet where the sixth episode will fir in with the BGT live shows. Sunday maybe?
Fans continue to speculate that Phelan’s exit will take place during the week of late night editions that come annually alongside the Britain’s Got Talent semi finals – and it is looking likely. Corrie save their blockbuster storylines for this special week – and what better time than then to air Phelan’s curtain call.
Phelan will leave
There’s no getting away from it, Connor McIntyre is indeed leaving his role as Phelan so if you’re a fan of the villain, make the most of him while you can! Phelan is set for a big and final exit at the end of this – but whether he will die or be heading to prison is a closely guarded secret for now…
Michelle has never mentioned either of her sons for months and now she's suddenly very devastated. I'm amazed she even remembers their names!
yasmeen is a true queen of life character
💖💖💖
Kate has to be one of the most unlikeable characters ever :')
Kate Oates has quit after just two years Now I can watch Corrie again *.*
The Emmerdale producer is replacing her. The last three Emmerdale producers have all become the Corrie producer.
Surprising news about Kate Oates and a shame imo because she made Corrie better than it's been in years, and it's unmissable TV now. I trust Iain can keep the quality up as he's been brilliant on Emmerdale.
i have no issues with oates myself tho she’s riled up a lot of fans and she isn’t liked at all... they are doing a treadwell-collins job on her;
OUT! asap babes, dont let the door hit you, it is nice for corrie tp notice it has a massive issue months/YEARS before EE does
She was better than the Hat but I cannot stand her obsession with affairs and lies and secrecy People complaining were stupid though saying it's "got too dark" etc., it's not the 1960s anymore focusing on "real working class issues", and that's what's pushed her to leave. For the time that was nice and groundbreaking but if I wanted to always watch people sat in the pub talking about their day, I'd do that irl. It's not like there is NOTHING real about it, or it's Hollyoaks levels of contrived, other than Phelan's comeuppance being dragged out (but we all knew that'd be BGT week and at least they've slowed it by having them think he's dead, there's no way they'd have been able to keep him around properly til May) and the Eva/Toyah baby plot. Stuff like David's rape and Bethany's abuse in particular really needs to happen and be discussed, it's touching on real issues and helping people rather than just being another typical affair or pregnancy plot in soap.
I don't think it's fair to say people are stupid for thinking Corrie got too dark. Kate Oates is technically a good producer but I think she was out of her depth with Corrie; she didn't understand the DNA of Corrie. You can have darker stories and you can have issue led stories but having so many at a time and in such quick succession is draining and lessens the effect. Kate seemed to justify all this because she inserted awful 'comedy' in between. That was never what Corrie was about. It was also never just about people sitting around talking in the pub or the shop all day, but those scenes did exist and they gave chance for characters to blossom and develop and make them feel like real people. These scenes weren't boring either thanks to the sharp dialogue and wit. I think this can still exist in today's Corrie and be successful with today's audiences if they strike the balance right with your Netflix style storytelling.
Emmerdale is at least pretty good at that, so it'll be interesting if Iain carries it in that direction. I always feel like Emmerdale is worth watching even when it's just "normal" stuff between storylines, which I don't always get with say Eastenders that tries the same. I get where people are coming from I suppose but I can't at people taking time out of their day to complain to Ofcom over an issue led storyline that is needed to raise awareness and is giving the soap some of the best moments and performances in years, to the point the producer has quit. Although if she wanted to see bad reception, try a day in Stuart Blackburn's shoes
It's not the storylines like Phelan (as tiring as that got in the end, it paid off in the end episodes) and the Platts' woes for me, she's just awful at the in between, which I agree is what Corrie used to excel at, and having far much of the affairs, lies and secrecy - the Eva/Toyah convoluted web of lies is peak Kate Oates really Jude's job is another one, I mean really?
There's going to be a hell of a lot more complaints after The Sun spoiled what happens with Michelle
Michelle's just being petty and she's loving playing the role of the 'wronged best friend'. She sounds like a broken record when it comes to Carla and her beloved son.
Honestly I always thought Kate did a pretty great job at balancing the lighter and darker stuff. Liz and Moira in particular have been an absolute hoot and I don't think anything like that has felt forced at all. Give me Kate's issue-led vision of Corrie over the crap that EastEnders are producing right now any day.
She ripped out the heart of the show. And those people saying 'it's not the 1960s!!' and that they've always had dark storylines are missing the point completely. Those storylines were mixed with light and warmth not this constant misery.
On DS there's a theory that Aiden will commit suicide, from the spoilers in a few weeks time and the whole kidney storyline it seems viable
That would be awful (as in heartbreaking, not like "don't do it"), it would be something that would be a memorable and impactful exit which they keep promising. And it would mean something for Eva too, so that both their exits are memorable as both actors seem to keep promising.
Also the spoilers that he starts giving stuff away (letting Summer go shopping with his credit card and giving Liam his watch) backs that theory up as well, that's the sort of behaviour you can see before suicide.
That'd be even more complaints then
Aiden’s Suicide has been confirmed.
I'm actually really looking forward to seeing how they tackle it, it's been a long while since I can remember a soap tackling suicide in such a way. There's been assisted suicides and stuff like villains killing themselves (which I guess is to avoid prison or they're totally unhinged sort of thing), but I can't remember there ever being something like this in a soap with suicide, it's more topical rather than a senstionalist end of a plot like the latter example. I don't know how to say it without sounding like I am trivialising "other" suicides, of course it's important to cover no matter what but suicide in soaps tends to be stuff like that, and I think it's so important to show that sometimes it isn't because you're some unhinged villain or you're dying anyway and want to take control, it can be something that just can't be seen or stopped, something you struggle with in silence.
The last time Corrie did this I think was Katy Harris, but that was still becasue she'd killed her dad and couldn't live with the guilt. Of course as I said that's still important and still tragic, but this is such an important point to make at present about mental health aside from just being a tragic or sad storyline, especially with a male character. It's 2018 but still there's that awful discourse in society that men have to just put up with it and suffer in silence because they're meant to be strong and solider on, and this shows what happens when people have that mindset drilled into them.
I've not been watching Corrie so can't comment first hand, but it seems people have a problem with this development because there's been no build up. Viewers have not seen Aidan's battle with mental health; there's no heart or truth involved, it's just plot-driven and another box ticked for issue-led 'stories'. I assume Corrie is trying to show that suicide is out of the blue and will show the effects it has to the community; yes suicide is out of the blue, but not to the person who does it. That person struggles every day and it appears viewers have not been shown any of that with Aidan. No doubt it will be a ratings success and people will comment on how brave Corrie is for tackling such an issue, but is it really brave to completely dismiss any struggle that the person in question has experienced? I'm not surprised that people are disgusted with this story and how Corrie has dealt with other stories recently.
There’s also rumours that one of Michelle’s sons (with Ryan returning) will kill each other as Kate Oates made reference to Cain and Abel talking about them together, or at least like Ross and Pete a few years ago in Emmerdale. For goodness sake
There has been signs, but they've been quite subtle. For example he's being quite generous which can happen when people commit suicide, and he didn't seem to really be affected positively by getting the factory for example which seemed to be all he ever wanted. But admittedly I didn't pick those up really until Andrew posted above about it and I thought actually yeah that makes sense. I think they might be going for an angle of how hard it is to spot the signs until it's too late, so even if you notice subtle things then make sure you check on people and do all you can, but when it's something that hasn't been tackled really I think it would be better to properly show some of the signs and educate and raise awareness of those a bit more. People can't be educated on knowing the signs of when someone might be feeling that down and low without it being tackled on screen, and for me I think that's the most important part of tackling something like this. Perhaps in the aftermath, they'll allude to some of that in talking about how he was and feeling guilty that they didn't pick up on it, we'll see.We haven't seen this week also, that may elucidate that side of things a bit more... I know a week is hardly enough to build up that picture, but still. It's something I'm passionate about and it really needs to be tackled and talked about as it's the biggest killer of males under 45, I'm going to wait to see how they actually handle the process and see the proper episodes. With something like this it's hard to tackle it in a way that isn't too gruesome and shocking, and hard to tackle in a way that pleases everybody, but I am looking forward to seeing it play out.
Yeah, I have heard about those subtle signs you mentioned, but as you say, for a topic that's not been explored enough on TV, it's not really enough to educate and raise awareness. Corrie could definitely have both shown Aidan's struggle over the course of several months and have shown the effects of the suicide that it has on the community and how some may think back on the signs they didn't take notice of etc. That's how I thought Eastenders would be portraying depression and suicide with Lee in Eastenders during those initial few months of SOC's reign, but we all know how that ended up.
As things stand, it almost feels like Aidan's suicide isn't even about him which is really wrong. I have no doubt the episodes next week will be done sensitively, as double bill of David's rape was, but to dismiss the struggle that Aidan would have gone through really doesn't sit right with me and, as Andrew said, Kate Oates has a tendency to take things to the sensational, so we may not get a respectful aftermath beyond a small handful of episodes.
it’s going to be one of the most memorable and important moments of coronation street’s history
it’s one of the last few taboos and it’ll do an incredible amount of good to focus on it
Suicide is one of those taboos that is so hard to get right I think, I suppose there's a reason that it isn't tackled. It can either feel like it's not about the victim as this might be or if they actually showed more of it, it could be a bit *too* harrowing (13 Reasons Why got that criticism, for example). I don't think it's something we can really judge or pass off until we see it and how its done, because there are different angles to go about it. Like I said, if they do one route, you'll think hmm they could have done the other, so it's a difficult thing to do perfectly but when it's such a prominent issue it is ridiculous there's such a media silence. I know it's not a nice topic to cover, but it is so important as I keep stressing so I'll stop now
Personally I don't find all the gritty storylines too much or whatever, I see why some people might but when Kate is on it she's on it for me, I find the endless affair and secrecy plots awful but Bethany's abuse and David's rape have been done perfectly, so I have faith in this mostly, especially as it seems like Aiden's plot ties into David's and pushes that along. Jake also reminded me it gives Alison King something proper to work with which is always welcome, she's possibly the best actress in the show when given something proper to get into.
EDIT: Reading http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/interviews/a856029/coronation-street-spoilers-shayne-ward-aidan-connor-suicide/I understand the approach a bit more - Shayne has put it across better than Kate Oates in her similar interview so I have more faith. It might be a bit subtle in its build up but I think in the effects it potentially has on so many characters, this is going to be heartbreaking and potentially amazing.
I've picked up on Aidan's strange behaviour a couple of times so they've definitely been sewing the seeds. I guess they're purposely trying to make it quite shocking by not showing much of it from Aidan's POV, so we'll understand it from the perspective of Johnny, Kate, Carla, etc. I think it's more than box-ticking another issue or chasing ratings. Soaps have skirted around the issue of suicide for a long time and I think this could be a brilliant step.
no pressure but this could be the best week of soap this year if it’s done correct
Tonight's episode was very emotional and thought-provoking. It was also totally needed to raise awareness of male mental health issues. I almost think it could have been either Aiden or David who committed suicide tonight.
That was incredible, it was heartbreaking to know Aiden was saying goodbye to everyone without actually saying it. I agree it was done so cleverly with David's stuff as well that if we hadn't known, it almost could have been the last episode for either (but that totally makes sense with how the two are intertwined in the coming weeks). I think this is going to be unmissable TV for the next few episodes!
The next two episodes are going to be powerful but will be well done.
Well that was one of the most heartbreaking and powerful bit of tv I have ever seen.
The acting was phenomenal
That was very well done. Great acting and writing. One of the most powerful episodes I've seen.
The acting all round was fantastic - the bit that touched me most though was Jack P Shepherd's David confiding in Shona. Catherine Tyldesley was fantastic as well (I've never been a fan of her Eva before - but she played a blinder tonight).
Just about to watch it on ITV2 as we had people here last night.
So much better than EE right now
We all know which show got the good writers
The team have handled this wonderfully and the actors did the scripts justice. The emotion running through the episode was so tense.
That was one of the most intense and emotional episodes of any TV series/soap/film I've ever watched.
Cath Tyldesley NEEDS to be given some kind of award. It literally looked like she was hyperventilating at one point. Just wow.
Compare that episode to what we've been getting with EE atm. It's an absolute joke.
That was possibly the best hour of soap I've ever seen. Pretty much the entire cast was incredible but especially Cath Tyldsley, Julia Goulding, Helen Worth and Jack P Shephard. Absolutely heartbreaking and such a powerful episode, every little bit of it mattered and felt needed and so real apart from maybe the Toyah shite (she's hideous oh my lord). Beth's reaction was awful too but people do have that reaction and I think it was important to showcase and challenge those attitudes. Gail's monologue was so powerful as well, that slither of 2 minutes shows exactly why she's a Corrie legend, and it was so perfectly done within the episode.
On a side note, Shona is INFINITELY better than Kylie ever was. Julia Goulding is such a star, she's one of those actresses who just shines even doing "normal" things, let alone in stuff like this.
I can't get over how much I love Shona omg
Absolute QUEEN
I did originally think Shona was like a Poundland Kylie but she's really coming into her own. Queen *.*
I didn't catch all of last night's episodes, did Sarah/Gail find out about the rape? I saw their reactions to SOMETHING but if it was the rape then they were quite lowkey.
That was just about David and Shona being back together, they know that they must have discussed something but not the details yet!
Stanning Flora's complete contempt for Sinead tbh
Sinead, why?
Is it necessary that we have to endure her for much longer.
I never thought I’d be happy to see Anna f***ing Windass !!
Why does no one call the police though
Praying Phelan murders Sinead
I feel SO sick after this episode already
Too much
WHAT AN EPISODE.
Exhilarating viewing and a superb conclusion to the Phelan saga. It was fitting to see Anna return and finish him off, and although it's a shame she's going again, it's good that we seem to be losing Faye (and keeping Seb *.* )
edit: apparently Faye's not gone for good. Damn :')
Anna will be back, surely?
The actress definitely quit earlier this year, just did this to round it off it seems. Bit gutted they didn’t use this opportunity to get rid of some deadwood.
I’ve been enjoying Corrie more since Phelan ‘died’ originally and that week was a huge letdown Nothing happened until the last 5 minutes of Thursday and so tonight felt way too rushed. So many SORS as well :’) What has happened to my fav show
That was a perfect conclusion, gripping throughout and a really satisfying conclusion. They really dragged out this Phelan saga but it was worth this episode which was incredible! I loved that Anna was the one to end it all, a satisfying full circle conclusion for her character. I'm glad both Nicola and Seb survived as I kind of thought they'd be disposed of to make Phelan have last evil deed, and they're both brilliant and really coming into their own recently. I really like Eileen kind of taking them in as her family as well.
Ffs at Faye supposedly not staying with Anna, her leaving was the best part of the week when it looked like that was happening
The whole of Friday's episode was so gripping I couldn't take my eyes off for one minute. Well done Corrie
Toyah is absolutely abhorrent, f***ing hell....
Alya isn't much better.
Nicola has left for good
Such a waste of a potentially great character, like to have her pregnant by Gary but just send her off practically as soon as she has the baby?
I was surprised by this news as there was potential for a future.
Many others needed to go ahead of her.
Yeah I can't stand Alya, highly unlikeable
Alya is awful and Carla is almost as bad.
I really felt for Toyah when she told Peter the truth. It is totally understandable how Peter felt but for Toyah i don't believe any of her intentions were bad, she was just desperate for a baby regardless.
Johnny and Liz, was this really needed, i would like to believe this is a diversion that will help Johnny see that Jenny is the one he loves. Like Toyah, i really feel bad for Jenny but with Jenny, she is getting treated horribly by her husband for no real reason.
Chris and Georgia were both incredible in the last episode
Are we seeing glimpses of the old bitchy Carla? She was SUCH a good soap bitch when she first ever joined so I'm hoping they go that direction with her tbh.
I have to turn Corrie on mute whenever Beth makes an appearance. She's SO awful
Loved the scenes with David and Billy tonight <3
Is Jack's surname Webster or Dobbs? If Webster, was his surname changed by deed poll from Dobbs?
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/news/a861695/coronation-street-confirms-off-screen-death-jackie-dobbs/
Why?
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/news/a861696/coronation-street-jim-mcdonald-return-daughter/
WHY?!
The second one..... Honestly why lmao
It's totally unnecessary. Baby swaps have been done far too much anyway but this one just spoils the impact of the initial story and any story that can come from this will not make up for that. No doubt said characters will be living harmoniously with each other a few months down the line as if nothing ever happened.
Borderline offensive
The storyline news is getting a very bad online reaction.
If the storyline is true i totally agree but it may not be straight forward as it involves Jim who is a character i wish would wait away.
Apart from Jenny, the Connor’s are f***ing vile Johnny has gone down in my estimations so much.
Also agreed and i include Carla.
Jenny is brilliant although she needs to move away from the Conors.
I'd get rid only of Johnny really, Kate is kinda awful but I think there's stuff to explore with her and Rana at least for example, there's some mileage. Michelle is fine when she's outside of that unit with Robert, much better than she has been. Johnny is just awful recently, of course he has the worst thing imaginable for a parent happen but the way he is treating people because of it is disgusting, especially Jenny. She has done absolutely nothing wrong, I don't know why the writers are using this aftermath to portray him as unsympathetically as possible, being so vile to her and Eva particularly and then the Liz saga. It's just quite dull now that everyone he's on screen he's gonna be spitting vitriol at Eva, looking miserable and snapping at Jenny or lusting after Liz.
Carla is ofc iconic, she has more than enough to do without her family too, like if we keep Michelle there's still that close friendship, and there's always stuff with Peter, the factory saga with Alya... She can easily stand on her own two feet without needing her family to give her reasons to have anything to do.
According to digital spy forum GAIL AND ALI will have an affair
LMAOOOO f*** OFF NAH oh my lord is Kate Oates trying to bury the show christ
oh it's not real oops
thank f***
LMAOOOO I just went to look, ffs I was gonna say
Lowkey wanted that to happen
It's awful that I actually kind of believed it lmao
http://www.digitalspy.com/soaps/coronation-street/feature/a862399/coronation-street-liz-mcdonald-daughter-retcon/
Some great points
Valid points.
They should bring back Andy and build a storyline around him and not touch such a significant moment for Liz's history with the show.
Agree with everything there!
If they really wanted Jim to come back with a big storyline or someone else to bounce off, he could've had a secret child before Liz or something, I know that wouldn't affect Liz as much as Katie being alive but this is just totally jumping the shark. As said it was a huge moment in Liz's time on the street, definitive to her character, and they've erased it just because they are so desperate for Jim to come back, so they are. I know if soaps were exactly like real life it would be boring, and I suppose these hospital mix-ups do happen rarely but for it to be on the same street as where another woman who had it happen is ridiculous, plus how does a hospital f*** up SO badly that they think a dead baby is someone else's :/
Thank god Kayla is gone
Why is there a 25 year old woman with a 24 year old daughter on this??
Does anyone watch the Classic Coronation Street episodes on ITV3 at all?
An iconic episode will be shown this afternoon with Alan Bradley’s death by tram in Blackpool which was viewed by over 26 million.
Rita must be hoping that rough-around-the-edges Gemma will eventually come good and turn out just like Leanne in the future.
I think she already has a bit, she's got a good heart deep down and just wants to prove herself (and maybe needs to say no a bit more, like when her friends came and she had a party at Rita's and they stole her stuff, and she didn't stand up to them but had a conscience over it).
Surprised that Dev has been in Coronation Street since 1999. Where next for him?
I am sure the next Dev storyline will be matching him with a new love interest.
Dev is someone i would not miss if he left or was axed.
I really like Gemma now she’s stopped chewing with her mouth open ;o
Why must they gave Antony Cotton this homeless storyline? GIVE IT SOMEBODY WHO CAN ACT FFS
I can see why they chose Sean - Anthony Cotton rarely has much to do and it makes sense in-universe for Sean because he has no family ties on the street. However, I'd agree that I'd rather he didn't have it :')
I find Sophie as irritating as Sean. She is a very average actress who spends far too much time pouting which weakens her performances.
Yeah I thought the same, it makes sense as a character for it to be Sean more than pretty much anyone, Sophie for example has both Kevin and Sally who'd never seen her out on the street. Most characters that need a major story you could give it are in a similar position or have a home/business (like say Dev) so it wouldn't happen. It's just a shame that it's such a poor actor. Also I have majorly eye rolled at pretty much every promo interview he's done for this, as usual making it about himself, he keeps going on about a guy he met like once going homeless and what he did to help
I'm conflicted because it's a really important and real issue they should cover, it's just a shame the only character they could really do it with is Sean. I suppose they could have had Seb being a bit more forceful and Abi being homeless, but I think her trying to get her kids back is an integral part of getting her character established. I think they wanted to tell the story with an established character who's popular on the street to show that homelessness can happen to those you might least expect and the feelings of shame it might bring, how he feels he couldn't just say to Fiz he had nowhere to go so suffers in silence.
Oh I get why they chose him I just meant it's a shame for them to give it to somebody with such horrendous acting abilities.
One of the best things about Kate Oates' time is how she's reduced Sean, I know she has to give him a storyline eventually but Anthony Cotton AND Sean are both so unbearable
The storyline is good but the character and actor are simply awful. I in full agree about Anthony making the storyline about himself and even worse using it as a reason for his attitude on Dancing on Ice. He had the same attitude on Im A Celebrity, in fact, anything i have seen him on he appears to have an attitude problem and over the top sense of importance about himself. Kate Oates, thankfully didn't give him much air time, ideally she would have went one further and axed him.
Christ. Secondhand embarrassment @ Antony Cotton's acting tonight
"What'd your brother say?!"
omg Alya's an ACTUAL c*nt
Maureen Lipman is rejoining Corrie after appearing in a brief stunt in 2002 as Lillian Spencer. She will be playing Tyrone's grandmother.
"Financially embarrassed"
How did Tracy spot Steve and Abi without noticing that she was kissing him?
Peter Barlow? What do you make of him?
Sally dressed a clown, a new experience for many.
It is likely that Steve and Abi will end up together so i would believe a full on affair is coming soon.
It looks evident that Steve and Tracey wont be staying together.
I really hope that when Nick comes back that we don't have another storyline with him/Leanne or him/Carla getting back together.
Blanche Hunt on talking about Liz Mcdonald
Peter for some reason looks like an ageing Novak Djokovic.
Blanche had some of the most superb one liners, a truly missed character on the Street.
Is it just me or does the show feel different in the last few weeks? Monday with Sally as the clown was painful :’)
Did we need Peter & Carla having that scene in the factory?
I am tired of Carla, she is the Mick of EastEnders, over used and added to as many scenes and storylines possible.
i think that’s A STRETCH; her storylines have been v family-centric since her return
and i think she’s fabulously acted and rather complex; mick is none of those things and he’s nothing more than a highly paid, overused and lightweight parody of a character.
Carla’s return has been nothing short of disastrous imo there’s a reason why Alison King left in the first place and that’s because the character was completely burned out. Stuart Blackburn and Kate Oates seem to see Carla as an antihero who we’re supposed to love/a good person at heart when Carla was always written as a nasty cow who would do anything to get what she wanted. The Peter/Carla relationship was toxic from the start following from her rape, just who is asking for them to be together?
I get why some dislike Alya but having a confident young woman running her first business and actually having some AMBITIONS (in a street of Sineads) was really refreshing but of course precious Carla had to get her factory back. god the connors are vile and I don’t get why a) we’re supposed to like them and b) they’re shoved down our throats :/
What did we make of Sean's homelessness storyline?
I could appreciate what they were going for with Sean's storyline but I just don't like the character / his acting so it wasn't executed so well in the end. Plus they all commented on how rough he looked etc but there wasn't even the slightest hint of stubble on his face? :')
the sean storyline was shocking; you didn’t feel any empathy for him and ppl don’t become homeless due to ‘too much pride’. homelessness is an important issue to talk about but it’s jot right when it’s done in such a misjudged, off-kilter fashion it’s tantamount to miseducation
i’m really enjoying recent episodes; seeing the older cast members in the mix is great
rita is a queen of life *.*
Allegedly Tina Malone could be joining Coronation Street:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-6099345/Tina-Malone-talks-Coronation-Street-bosses-role-ITV-soap.html
Chesney sending Henry off to be murdered and it being played for laughs
cathy and gemma really do look like they could be mother and daughter
Tina Malone's a revolting person. She can be kept
Rana's mother is f'n repugnant
Sinead will get cancer I can see this being like Sienna's storyline in Hollyoaks except way less tolerable
Again with the giving serious/sensitive storylines to people on the show who can't act
This has been painful the last few weeks
I lowkey stan Angie and think she could be good but Jude needs to go, what an absolute bore
Put Angie and Adam together or something and let her be re-invigorated.
Jude and Angie absolutely had to split up and I hope it stays that way, Angie will be so much more interesting away from him!
Ruby and Hope necklace-gate for best storyline tbh
Not Tyrone's dad looking younger than him
Bethany is becoming so tiresome All she does is screech. The Bethany abuse storyline was done well at the time but its been ruined since by all the unnecessary shock twists, Mel coming back for Bethany, Kayla etc. It makes a mockery of the whole raising awareness (which is really important)
Lowkey stan Hope and Ruby
"he had his foot off!"
The Katie storyline is ridiculous, surely it must be a scam :/
Wtf just happened
This is absolutely crazy. I can maybe get why Jim would want pay back on Liz and Steve but he would never want to steal their money and he would certainly never have made such a con of Katie still being alive. I think I'd rather Katie actually was alive. That may have undermined the original storyline but this is just an insult to Jim's character and makes a total mockery of the show.
I'm LOVING Tyrone's nan
I thought they'd at least have kept it going a bit longer and made us think it was real, I agree I think I'd actually rather she was mixed up in the hospital. It's really disrespectful to the memory of Katie, to Jim's character, everything... It's just another excuse for him to pop back for a bit, f*** Liz up and be on his way again.
It's bad in that he would use his own daughter for a revenge plot as jim was never that bad to liz it just seems very out of character, I never liked jim and I never got the big fan fare he gets.
What a gross storyline though for Liz/Jim/Hannah. I thought the idea of Katie not being dead was bad enough but this one is horrible. I can't imagine Jim would do something so cruel to Liz and what does that young girl see in a sick old ex-con anyway?
His storylines are extremely repetitive and his acting is very wooden.
Yeah this Jim/"Katie" storyline needs to die ASAP.
I saw a video on youtube this morning that said tyrone will find out that his mother is actually Cilla, which would make him brother to fiz and Chesney. A quick google search shows an article saying that actress Wendi Peters would return 'for the right storyline'. I hope this is not true, this is worse than the Jim/Kate storyline
There's absolutely no way they'd do that
Christ what on earth is this Toyah/Leanne/Imran shite Also Evelyn is f***ing terrible, she's like a really hammed up sketch show parody of a classic 80s matriarch.
Stanning Tracey being onto Hannah tho *.*

Who is writing this shit?
It's looking very likely Tim and Gina will have an affair
It really feels like all Kate Oates' good work is being undone
Really dont want that to happen.
It ruins the work of Kate Oates.
Which is ironic really considering Kate's fetish for affairs
Corrie's that bad right now that I don't think I can watch it anymore :/ Catching up on Monday nights episodes and it's woeful
EDIT: Yeah I'm done. This Jim/fake Katie storyline is offensively bad and there's really nothing else going on. The upcoming return of Nick bloody Tilsley and Gina and Tim having an affair does absolutely nothing for me.
'Erp is such an icon, Roobeh not getting her chance to shine with Santagate tho </3
Jude is f***ing VILE, what will he not lie about
also same x

I'M ABSOLUTELY DYING
That was underwhelming ngl
They should have killed off one of Ryan or Ali if they actually wanted a "shock death". This villain of one week is dead, I suppose it moreso leads to Ali having a downward spiral and it's going to be about how they (and he in particular) deal with the aftermath. I mean ofc the circumstance of him murdering Ronan was a shock, but they shouldn't have advertised and built it up so much when that was obviously him who died. Hmm at "omg he's a murderer" yet again being a "dark side" to someone though
Tracey has been iconic this week though and I LOVE Abi, best newbie in ages.

Bit of a poor attitude to have, no? Doesn't everyone work hard at what they do? The storyline of Aidan's suicide always came across as quite awards-pandering to me anyway and this isn't doing much to change my mind.
The aftermath was really poor and it felt like Aiden was forgotten about after a few weeks tbh, if there was a single episode award then I'd understand where he was coming from.
What sort of storyline would you give for Adam Barlow?
Something that involves him in a state of undress xx

Obv the storyline is sad but my god Sinead is just SO drab I can't be assed with this storyline
Never realised I fancied Tim 👀
Omg I'm glad I'm not the only one with a severe weakness for a dadbod
I just spent the last few months getting caught up on this. Hulu has a years worth of Coronation Street to watch. The last time I watched I think was around 2010 when Tracy killed her Boyfriend or Husband and went to jail... so I was very happy to see her back tuning in!
I was a pretty light watcher back when.. but I do obviously recall Audrey, Tracy, Ken, Gail ect..
It's been a treat watching over the last few months.. sad I'm all caught up now but here has been a few of my favorite (and not) storylines
BEST:
Anything with Carla: I don't know if she was on when I watched before, but I love her so much <3. Such a boss.
Anything with Rana/Kate: I came in just as Rana realized she had feelings for Kate. I thought everything was expertly played out and somewhat realistic if it was to ever happen in real life. I don't much care for this Baby/No Baby storyline however.
Anything with Pat Phelan: Probably a touchy subject, again I came in a little later with that guy being locked up in that basement.. so I may not have seen how long this has all been going for.. or even the whole backstory but the ending(s) with his death(s) were amazing. Brilliant and captivating storyline for me!
Anything with Eva: Again she was another one that was new to me.. she seemed a little meek/quiet when I turned in (apparently she had something to do with the demise of Underworld which I never understood and people were pretty much abusive towards her) but the whole Baby storyline tied in with Aiden was just great to watch. I need her to come back soon so I can appreciate her some more!
David Rape Storyline: Ehhh.... not a fan of David and the acting, but they actually pulled this one out of the bag.
Aiden's Death: Pretty much executed perfectly and I never saw it coming. I didn't even read he had left the show. He was a great character but everyone else afterwards made the storyline so brilliant. I wish I had more time to watch him when he was around however.
OKAY:
Anything with Fiz/Tyrone: Okay this should actually be in the WHY/TERRIBLE category, but I do really like both of them together (him more than her). I guess it's the nostalgia. Both the cheating storyline and the grandmother storylines have been awful.
Anything with Todd/Billy: Okay I don't understand their relationship at all, or Summer fits into anything (terrible actress) or why they haven't just killed Todd off. Billy has been great however, his storylines have been terrible but I appreciate the effort he has put in.
Anything with Steve/Tracy: I love both of them, they were in my first round of watching obviously. Lots of nostalgia - but... god... give them something to work with please!
Whatever is happening with Sally: This has gone on a bit long now, hasn't it?
WHY/TERRIBLE:
Anything with Sinead/Daniel/CHESNEH: Sinead is just awful, I honestly can't listen to her voice. The whole relationship with Chesney was pretty obvious. I don't actually mind Daniel at all.. but she does my head in. I do also recall/like Chesney from before, but they've really killed his character haven't they?
Anything with Bethany/Craig: I don't actually mind Bethany at all, I came in at the end of her big story with whoever was pimping her out.. but her and Craig together makes zero sense. I do like her with that cute guy that's just come back (son of Michelle? his name escapes me - tho I'd rather see him with his non-biological brother Craig is just painful to watch however.
Anything with Adam Barlow: Beautiful to look at and listen to, but can they do something with his character already?!
Anything with Gemma/Beth: UGH GET OFF MY SCREEN PLEASE.
Anything with Mary/Jude/Jude's Wife: When he first came on my screen I thought, oh - there's someone I could get behind. But yeah... no... they basically destroyed any chance there. Terrible acting on all fronts. The wife wasn't that bad I guess. She could stay.
Sean being homeless: Another classic Corrie actor, but this was just awful.
Jesus christ at Kate legit seducing Adam to get a baby because Rana wouldn't do the whole fertility thing
I love them as a couple but Kate is abominable at times. Why can't they just let them be happy, I know if all soap couples were happy it'd be boring but it's just ridiculous now!
I think Corrie is now better than EastEnders. EastEnders have brought back Alfie and Cat and now its gone boring again.
Jesus Dev's acting tonight *_____*
since when did Eileen become so vile lol
So is Lewis dead? Seems like it. Don't think he nicked Audrey's money though but reckon Nick did instead. Maybe he got her password somehow.
If Lewis is dead it will make more drama for it to be revealed that someone like Nick stole the money.
Apparently they've filmed Lewis's funeral so he is dead.
The haunted snooker hall stuff with Peter, Dev and Kirk highlighted how Dev and Kirk really have passed their sell by date.
The Sinead cancer storyline really was given to the wrong character as i find Sinead extremely annoying.
Really fancy Gemma's brother and idk how I feel about that...
Also Chesney is f***ing abysmal
Do any of you watch or record Classic Corrie in the afternoons on ITV3? They show two a day. It's great, better than the current Corrie and they're up to April 1991 now.
Gemma's brother is an intriguing character and i agree he really has that something.
Glad I'm not the only one His heart is probably in the right place, you've got to love a diamond in the rough bad boy.
I think Abi has to be my current fave, her with Gail, Sally and Yasmeen tonight was hilarious She's got right balance of heart, comic relief and can be a damn good actress in serious things when she has to as well.
Rana is getting killed off I know it’s the sun but they’re usually reliable with these things
FFS WHY NOT KATE
what the f***
So the father of Amy's baby is: Gang leader TYLER. Sworn enemy of Simon. Storyline goes on months as she decides to have the baby.
The above exit is confirmed but not the circumstances
Abi is the best thing to happen to this show in YEARS
I simply cant connect to the Sinead cancer storyline.
Had the storyline gone to a better character it could have much more emotional.
Gemma and Chesney are f***ing excruciating
This whole Nick as a villain thing is super boring too, ik he stole Audrey's money to pay back Elsa but now he's suddenly trying to go for this whole threatening villain vibe always there brooding and looming over everything and it just doesn't work.
