Pretty ridiculous decision considering they are a hits station and he has been one of the artists of the past year!

it's pretty sad actually given he is a UK artist and the song was such a giant hit. More so, it turned into a big international hit too.

The song isn't some massive outlier in terms of the general sound of the station, as it's actually very pop. Definitely far more in-keeping when you consider the fact they are playing the Panic! At The Disco track at the moment.

Is there ever a reason as to why Capital snub George?

anything with a guitar is a no no no for Capital :/ unless it becomes a huge huge hit then they add it 6 months after everybody else

Even on The Big Top 40 chart of the year George was only just in the top 20 when Shotgun should of been top 3. He was never number 1 on that chart either when he should of been. Just proves how much that chart is made up and favours certain artists.

Doesn’t that chart now incorporate airplay across the network though? Will explain the lower position if Capital doesn’t play it

I think at some point the Big Top 40 (and its predecesors) were probably calculated scientifically but lately there's been some weird goings on. It looks relatively close to the sales chart (so probably based on iTunes sales), but then you'll get something like James Arthur at number 2 inexplicably, when he was only something like number 40 on the commercial airplay chart so it couldn't have just been down to airplay.

So apparently it’s airplay, iTunes and Apple Music data.

iTunes data would seem to be the highest weighted (Dalton Harris was #1 for example), and looking at this week's chart it looks kinda similar to the live iTunes chart but then you find

Dua Lipa at 10 (37 on iTunes, 25 on commercial airplay)
Sigrid at 27 (45 on iTunes, not top 40 on commercial airplay)
Lewis Capaldi is not on the top 40 at all!

Their 'chart' has always been a shambles, but placing so much focus on iTunes in 2019 is an absolute farce. The fact that so many believe it be official makes it even worse.

On the other hand, perhaps the reason they base it on downloads is because it helps the chart seem "fresher" than the official one, and the songs that do well on sales are more radio-friendly. And perhaps people who listen to Capital and Heart are more likely to be downloaders than streamers?

How Lewis Capaldi isn’t on the chart I will never know. He was top 10 on iTunes and Apple Music and top 40 on airplay last week. They have Jack Savoretti at 8 even though he’s not in the top 200 on Apple Music or top 40 on airplay and capital don’t even play the track. They just make it up as they go along I think.

Absolutely buzzing about Lewis Capaldi! I was expecting a snub because they didn’t bother with Grace.

Bob Sinclar too! biggrin.gif
