Chart hilites in an exciting new format which I'm totally not gonna be lazy and forget to do half the time:

THIS WEEK'S #1

There's a bit of a shake-up in the top 10 for the new year (will get to that) but one thing that hasn't changed since 2019 as of yet is the #1, as Stormzy and Headie One lead the pack for a second week with 'Audacity'.

IN THE TOP 10

All the change begins right below the #1 as in fact only three songs from last week's top 10 are still up there - last week's #2, Grimes' 'My Name Is Dark', tumbles to #9 while James Blake slips 3-6 with 'I'll Come Too'. The other 7 slots are made up by three new entries and four climbers. Up at #2 this week is a huge rise from LUNA's 'Zolotyye Lepestki', which charted as high as #8 as an album track but has recently returned following the release of a music video (it actually has 2 of them now for some reason x) and zooms up 14 places this week to become the Ukrainian synthpop songstress' highest charting song to date for me. Rising even faster, up 19 places to #3 is Roddy Ricch's 'The Box' which gives him his first top 10 hit. Also securing their first top 10 hit since my 2019 chart revival are Tame Impala who rise 10 places to #5 with 'Posthumous Forgiveness', and the last climber is the 7 minute epic 'Luminous Spaces' by Jon Hopkins and Kelly Lee Owens (still not the longest song in the top 10 though) which rises 12-7, these latter two songs both reaching the top 10 on their fourth week on the chart.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHEST NEW ENTRY

The first highest new entry of the decade goes to Bring Me The Horizon with the standout track from their ridiculously titled new 'EP' (I'll just refer to it by its shortened title '~GO TO~' for ease x), the equally ridiculously titled song 'Candy Truck / You Expected: LAB Your Result: Green', which clocks in a few second longer than the Jon Hopkins track. This project from BMTH has seen them go further into experimenting with electronic music after dipping their toes in with Grimes collab 'nihilist blues' from their last album 'amo', which remains their highest charting song for me getting to #2. This new song, featuring garage-influenced production, some mildly unsettling vocal samples and a rather more chill outro, lands in at #4 giving the band their second top 10 hit.

OTHER NEW AND RETURNING ENTRIES

The chart news for Bring Me The Horizon doesn't stop there as '~GO TO~' gives them an album bomb (EP bomb?) with 4 of the 8 songs on the project charting, including one going in at #8 to simultaneously give them a third top 10 hit, perhaps the most ridiculously titled song of them all 'Dead Dolphin Sounds 'aid brain growth in unborn child' Virtual Therapy / Nature Healing 2 Hours' featuring Toriel (lead singer Oli Sykes' wife), which is the longest song in the top 10 this week and the third 10+ minute song to make my top 10 since my chart revival. Their other entries are collabs with some slightly more well-known names: '±ªþ³§' featuring YONAKA debuts at #14 and '¿' featuring Halsey at #22.

There's a second 'EP bomb' this week as well too courtesy of the 'JACKBOYS' EP from Travis Scott's Cactus Jack record label. 3 of its 7 songs chart, the highest being 'WHAT TO DO?' which completes the top 10 new entries at #10, while 'GANG GANG' debuts at #20 and the new remix of Travis' 'HIGHEST IN THE ROOM' sees the former #6 hit re-enter at #25 now sporting featured credits for ROSALÍA and Lil Baby. JACKBOYS member Don Toliver also re-enters at #30 with his former #2 hit 'No Idea' which isn't on the new EP but the EP release combined with the song finally climbing up the UK charts thanks to TikTok has been enough for me to feel like bringing it back to my chart.

Other new entries this week: Tinashe gets her first hit since my chart revival with the vibey 'Stormy Weather' at #15 (jacking the melody from 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' a little x); J Hus hits #19 with the drill-flavoured 'No Denying' after previous single 'Must Be' missed out on my top 40; former Aeroche BJSC winner Skeler debuts at #29 with 'I'm Free', a track from a tribute compilation for Øfdream (RIP) which dropped in early December though I didn't find out it existed until last week; the latest random Cyrillic track to chart for me is the Ukrainian language folk-pop-dance hybrid 'Palala' by KAZKA at #32 (not to be confused with their BJSC entry 'PLAKALA'); speaking of BJSC, my fave from the third BJSC Christmas spinoff, Aeroche entry 'The Winter Hymn' by Pantha Du Prince featuring Queens, debuts at #33 (only slightly unseasonal as it's more a winter song than a Christmas one); Octavian's collective Essie Gang enter at #35 with the typically lyrically trash but boppy 'Pattern Chanel' featuring SQ Diesel; Harry Styles becomes the first former 1D member to have three top 40 hits for me as album track 'Golden' hits #37; and Alec Benjamin is another Joseph fave scoring a third top 40 hit as 'Mind Is A Prison' goes in at #40 following its music video release after missing out the other week.

NEW PEAKS OUTSIDE THE TOP 10

Just a couple of these this week as DJ Shadow's 'Kings & Queens' (feat. Run The Jewels) rises to #12, beating its previous peak of #16 as an album track, while Bombay Bicycle Club race up 31-13 with 'Racing Stripes' in its second week on the chart to match the peak of their lead single 'Eat, Sleep, Wake (Nothing But You)'.

Hey Bré!
Been a long time since I checked out your charts, so here we go.
Nice to see "Audacity" at #1, as the first #1 in 2020!
I also like the huge gains for "The Box" and "Posthumous Forgiveness" into the top 10.
As for your debuts, I like "Golden", I still have to hear the rest of them, so I can't comment much.
But I like the re-entry for "Highest In The Room" (still need to hear the remix).
Great chart!

THIS WEEK'S #1

Stormzy's 2 week reign is ended as the first new #1 of the decade goes to American rapper Roddy Ricch with his viral hit 'The Box' (still technically not a single but heading for #1 over in the US nonetheless x), which rises 2 places to #1 in its third week on my charts. It's Roddy's first major hit in my chart, following two previous hits which charted in the 20s ('How It Is' with Chip and Yxng Bane at #21 and a feature on Mustard's 'Ballin'' which got to #25). Ee rr.

IN THE TOP 10

There's a little less turnover in the top tier this week with 2 new entries and 2 other songs climbing into the top 10. Stormzy and (the now incarcerated, and I oop) Headie One slip a place to #2 with 'Audacity' after two weeks at #1. Tame Impala's 'Posthumous Forgiveness' advances another place to #4, having climbed every week since its debut four weeks ago. It leapfrogs LUNA's 'Zolotyye Lepestki' which falls three to #5. #7 and #8 are unchanged with both songs holding at their peaks (Jon Hopkins and Kelly Lee Owens' 'Luminous Spaces' and Bring Me The Horizon's 'Dead Dolphin Sounds 'aid brain growth in unborn child' Virtual Therapy / Nature Healing 2 Hours' (feat. Toriel) respectively). Climbing into the top 10 we have Bombay Bicycle Club up 7 places to #6 in their third week with 'Racing Stripes' - more on them in a second - while Bring Me The Horizon claim a fourth top 10 hit and third from their '~GO TO~' EP as '±ªþ³§' (feat. YONAKA) is up five places to #9 in its second week. The leading song from the EP last week falls to #14 now being only their third highest song, as these other two have been sticking with me a little more so far.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHEST NEW ENTRY

Bombay Bicycle Club simultaneously claim their first two top 10 hits since my chart revival of 2019, as in addition to the climb for 'Racing Stripes' they also get this week's top new entry straight in at #3 with 'I Can Hardly Speak', the fourth song to drop from their forthcoming album 'Everything Else Has Gone Wrong' which I am becoming increasingly excited for. Last year there was an album released in January which possibly remained my favourite album of the entire year (James Blake's 'Assume Form'), could we see a repeat of that in 2020?? 'I Can Hardly Speak' is another beautiful track from them, I particularly love the last minute or so where there are two hooks being sung over each other (structurally reminiscent of some of my favourite indie songs of all time like Yeasayer's 'O.N.E' and The Temper Trap's 'Sweet Disposition') as well as a brilliant guitar solo.

OTHER NEW AND RETURNING ENTRIES

The other new arrival straight to the top 10 is Doja Cat's 'Say So' which debuts at #10, giving her a first top 10 hit for me (after narrowly missing out with last year's #12 hit 'Tia Tamera' (feat. Rico Nasty)). TikTok has had taste in blowing this album track up as it's a super cool and breezy slice of disco flavoured pop, Doja also reining in the overtly trashy sound of her singles from this era (it still has some raunchy lyrics but presented in a slightly subtler manner x). TikTok seems to be sponsoring my chart this week as not only does it bring back BROCKHAMPTON's 'SUGAR' at a new peak of #19 after it initially spent a week at #36 on their album release last week, but it also provides Doja Cat herself a second top 40 entry as 'Candy', her other more classy sounding track that's been big on the platform, makes a slightly belated impact at #27.

Other new entries this week: Gesaffelstein's banging remix of ROSALÍA's 'A Palé' enters at #13 (charting alongside the original which continues its own run at #25, I wasn't sure whether or not to combine them but I felt they're different enough to count the remix as a new entry and I'm still loving both versions atm x); an entrancing 7 minute track from Amtrac, 'Radical' featuring Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (a name I haven't heard from for a while), debuts at #16; Pet Shop Boys' best song for quite a while 'Monkey Business' goes in at #23; DigDat gets a fourth song to chart in the 31-40 region of my chart with '8 Style II' at #32 (nothing new or original but DigDat seems to be one of the more consistently enjoyable UK drill artists); Karol G and Nicki Minaj's 'Tusa' makes a belated entry at #37 (I don't really care that much for Nicki's part, this is mainly here because the hook keeps being stuck in my head, Karol does good on this one); JACKBOYS add another hit from their EP as the UK drill influenced 'GATTI' with Pop Smoke debuts at #39 after missing out last week; and the psychedelic/dream-pop track 'Foyer' by one time PRoJ BJSC artist Wild Nothing scrapes in at #40 (this may possibly be a climber next week as it's a bit of a grower).

NEW PEAKS OUTSIDE THE TOP 10

Tinashe edges closer to a top 10 hit with 'Stormy Weather' rising three places to #12.

I'm quite liking The Box, it's one of the better US trap hits we have at the moment.
'Sugar' didn't do much for me on a re-listen, why couldn't TikTok have chosen to push 'No Halo' instead? sad.gif

It's definitely one of the best US rap hits to cross over in a little while for me, maybe since 'SICKO MODE' ~

I wish it could have been 'NO HALO' instead too but I'll take what I can get as a BH stan magic.gif x

Hello Bré!
Nice to see "The Box" at #1, as well as the debut for "I Can Hardly Speak" and the re-entry for "Sugar".
Great chart!

Thanks for the comment as ever, glad that you are also liking 'I Can Hardly Speak' cool.gif

THIS WEEK'S #1 + HIGHEST NEW ENTRY

So for the first time this year I'm combining the highlights commentary for #1 and highest new entry as we have a debut at the top, and it's one that kind of came out of nowhere for me, 'Guilty Conscience' by 070 Shake. Shake is an R&B/hip-hop singer signed to Kanye West's GOOD Music label, who is best known for appearing on a couple of songs on his 'ye' album, and she's had two previous top 40 hits for me including reaching as high as #9 with 'Nice To Have' last year, but she's blown that out of the water with this new song, serving melancholic 80s synthpop vibes (reminding me a bit of The Midnight) for the first half before morphing into a more modern trap/R&B sound.

IN THE TOP 10

Roddy Ricch's 'The Box' is denied a second week at #1 by the surprise new entry, slipping a place to #2. Bombay Bicycle Club maintain two songs in the top 10, holding at #3 with 'I Can Hardly Speak' and falling a place to #7 with 'Racing Stripes'. Tame Impala are also down one to #5 with 'Posthumous Forgiveness', and they also have a new entry at #20 with the follow-up single 'Lost In Yesterday' maintaining their 100% Bré Forté 2.0 hit rate. Stormzy's 'Audacity' (feat. Headie One) stumbles down 2-6. Doja Cat's 'Say So' improves on its #10 debut from last week to hit a new peak of #8. As well as two more brand new entries in the top 10, there's one song climbing in, Amtrac's 'Radical' (feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs) which climbs 7 places to #9 in its second week.

OTHER NEW AND RETURNING ENTRIES

The second highest new entry, in at #4, is Squarepusher's 'Nervelevers', the second single taken from his forthcoming comeback album 'Be Up A Hello' and making him 2 for 2 on top 10 hits, this one charting 2 places higher than the lead single 'Vortrack'. It's another awesome chaotic banger from him. The third and final top 10 new entry at #10 is 'I Wanna Be Blind' by Turnstile and Mall Grab - Turnstile are a hardcore punk band, but this song (a remix of their song 'I Don't Wanna Be Blind') is very much a dance track with only some mildly shouty vocals hinting at its original genre. It's a good week for Mall Grab as he also re-enters at a new peak of #19 with Skin On Skin collaboration 'Strangers' following its music video release.

Other new entries this week: Future and Drake's new non-collaborative collaboration 'Life Is Good' debuts at #14; rising hit 'Roses' by SAINt JHN, remixed by Imanbek (for another dance remix that completely changes the original's song genre leaving it nearly unrecognisable), goes in at #17; 'Wild Youngster', a seedy Chicago house/rap collaboration by producer NEZ and ScHoolboy Q enters at #18 finally giving ScHoolboy Q another chart hit after his #1 'Numb Numb Juice' was the only top 40 hit he had for me in 2019 (as follow-up singles were... not very good x); The Blaze's 'Somewhere' debuts at #24 giving featured rapper Octavian his first hit of the year exactly a year after he debuted at #1 with his first hit 'Move Faster'; my former Unknown Pleasures act Kllo's Bandcamp-exclusive garage-tinted song 'Final' (raising money for the Australian bushfires, I did my bit by downloading it x) debuts at #25; CamelPhat make a belated appearance at #32 with 'Rabbit Hole' (feat. Jem Cooke) which has been steadily growing on me, also aided by a music video release; surf/indie pop band Beach Bunny enter at #33 with the cute little ditty 'Cloud 9', a bit reminiscent of Best Coast; there's a surprise entry at #36 for Janet Devlin (yes her from X Factor) with her dramatic ballad 'Honest Men' which turned out to be surprisingly good, sounding a bit like the BJSC entries by Molly Sterling which I was a fan of; this week's Radio 1 Introducing playlist song 'Model Effect' by synthpop act Tallsaint goes in at #37; Selena Gomez gets a second low top 40 hit from her new album with the Kid Cudi assisted 'A Sweeter Place' at #38; and the top 40 is rounded out by a couple of poppy indie/rock earworms, Joywave's 'Half Your Age' at #39 and The Mysterines' 'Who's Ur Girl?' at #40 (thanks Jade for pointing me to the latter x). There's also a re-entry at #28 for Lil Uzi Vert's 'Futsal Shuffle 2020' following its video release, now making its first chart appearance in its titular year.

NEW PEAKS OUTSIDE THE TOP 10

there aren't any this week, apart from Mall Grab which was already covered x

Great new entries for "Life Is Good" and "Roses"!
I've heard "Roses" a lot on my favourite german top 40 radio station, the remix version that is!
Great chart as well!

not often we get a snap debut but Life Is Good is #14 for me this week too, that makes it my #1 hip hop track although clearly not yours.
great to see Saint Jhn and Imanbek enter too, they are top 5 in mine.
I also enjoy Rabbit Hole although not my fave of theirs.

Oh my x it was still the 4th highest hip-hop song for me, my chart is a little less rap dominated than it often is atm. (I see it's climbed on your chart this week while it's gone very much the opposite direction for me oops x).

Thanks Sergej for commenting as ever also jump.gif x

THIS WEEK'S #1

No change this week as 070 Shake's 'Guilty Conscience' pretty easily becomes the first multi-week #1 of the year, holding on for a second week. It was bolstered even further this week by the release of her debut album 'Modus Vivendi' which is one of a few album bombs on my chart this week, landing four further songs in the top 40: the orchestral beauty 'Flight319' is highest at #9 (her third top 10 hit on my chart and matching the peak of last year's 'Nice To Have'), 'Microdosing' debuts at #18, 'The Pines' at #30 and 'Daydreamin' at #33, for a total of 7 songs from the album that have made my top 40.

IN THE TOP 10

Bombay Bicycle Club are another act with an album bomb this week following the release of their first album for 6 years 'Everything Else Has Gone Wrong'. More on their new entries in the next section but both of their existing top 10 hits climb one place, 'I Can Hardly Speak' hitting a new peak of #2 in its third week on the chart and 'Racing Stripes' returning to its peak of #6. Roddy Ricch's 'The Box' falls a place to #3 to accommodate, while Squarepusher is also down one to #5 with 'Nervelevers', overtaken by another rising dance track, 'Radical' by Amtrac feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs which is up 5 places to #4 in its third week. Following its #10 debut last week Turnstile and Mall Grab's 'I Wanna Be Blind' also rises to a new peak of #7.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHEST NEW ENTRY

Bombay Bicycle Club have highest new entry honours for the second time in the space of three weeks, as they grab the top new entry with my highlight of the album tracks 'Do You Feel Loved?' debuting at #8. Just a really cute and feel-good little song. It gives them their third top 10 hit on my chart since its (and their) comeback. They have four other new entries this week, meaning that 9 out of 11 songs from the new album have made my top 40 (a higher hit rate than any album released in 2019): fifth single 'Is It Real' debuts at #22, also beaten by another album track 'Good Day' at #19, while the intake is completed by 'Let You Go' at #36 and album opener 'Get Up' scraping in at #40.

OTHER NEW AND RETURNING ENTRIES

On a very busy week there were are a couple of other albums I checked out which land a song or two on the top 40. The biggest new album of the week was of course Eminem's surprise drop 'Music To Be Murdered By' which I haven't listened to in full but have heard at least a bit of all the songs on it and it certainly sounds like the only song on there worth charting is 'Godzilla' featuring the late Juice WRLD which debuts at #10, giving Juice his 7th top 10 hit on my charts (his 9th entry in all, all of which have peaked in the top 15). A deluxe version of the Dreamville 'Revenge Of The Dreamers III' compilation with 12 new tracks came out this week too, of which 2 enter the chart - J.I.D and EARTHGANG's 'Up Up Away' (feat. Vince Staples) goes in at #16 becoming J.I.D's 9th top 40 hit since my chart return (though his first since July) and Bas' 'Spin Move' (feat. Saba, Smino and The Hics) debuts at #37, the latter providing the first chart hits as named artists for Saba and Smino though they both made the top 40 as members of the group Ghetto Sage last year (and Saba also had a chart appearance as a member of Pivot Gang). It's also Bas' third top 40 hit for me but the first to not be a collaboration with J.I.D, and a welcome surprise appearance for The Hics who I sent to BJSC back in 2012. Hatari's debut album 'Neyslutrans' also came out and provides the Icelandic Eurovision icons their fourth and fifth top 40 hits with album closer 'Niðurlút' (feat. GDRN) at #25 and album opener 'Engin Miskunn' at #39.

On top of all that, there were also a couple of small EPs out this week that also land an entry or two: my former BJSC act DANCE WITH THE DEAD chart 2 of the 3 songs from their 'Blackout' EP with 'Ravens In The Sky' and 'The Dawn' inseparable at #24 and #25 respectively, and KLOUD (an artist I know via Cowtermont in BJSC of course) charts 1 of 3 songs from his 'PRIMAL' EP, the title track which goes in at #32.

Other new entries this week: Moby's Faithless-esque new track 'Power Is Taken' featuring iconic revolutionary vocals from Dead Kennedys' D.H. Peligro enters at #13; Igorrr's mind-melting electronic / metal fusion track 'Very Noise' debuts at #14 (also aided by an equally crazy surrealist animated music video); Mac Miller's very low-key and heartbreaking posthumous track 'Good News' debuts at #21 after missing out last week (Mac's album also came out this week of course but I haven't listened to anything else from it yet); my BJSC 121 (and 100th anniversary) entry 'WEIGHT' by BROCKHAMPTON makes a token debut at #28, it is one of my favourite songs I've ever sent to the contest but probably won't be charting super highly this time around as it is very old to me (one of my favourite songs of 2018); U.S. Girls' earwormy 'Overtime' hits #31; and my Unknown Pleasures act Thylacine debuts at #35 with a new super chill instrumental track 'Alda'. There are a total of 23 new entries this week which I believe is the highest I've had since my chart revival last year, I hope next week will be a little less hectic...!

NEW PEAKS OUTSIDE THE TOP 10

Most songs outside the top 10 are new entries or fallers but there is also a new peak for the Imanbek remix of SAINt JHN's 'Roses', rising 5 places to #12 in its second week on the chart.

THIS WEEK'S #1

A third week in a row at the summit for 070 Shake's 'Guilty Conscience', making it the fourth longest running #1 since the reurn of my personal charts last year (trailing the 6 weeks managed by Burial's 'Claustro' and CHVRCHES' 'Death Stranding' and the 4 weeks of ROSALÍA and J Balvin's 'Con Altura' (feat. El Guincho)).

IN THE TOP 10

Bombay Bicycle Club spent a second successive week at their peak of #2 with 'I Can Hardly Speak' (I believe they're yet to have a #1 in any incarnation of my chart, having previously also got to #2 with 'Luna'). Amtrac also held for a second week at his peak of #4 with 'Radical' (feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs), ahead of Roddy Ricch's 'The Box' slipping 3-5. Eminem moved up four places in his second week for a new peak of #6 with 'Godzilla' (feat. Juice WRLD), 'The Box' winning the battle here which it lost by 93 units the other week in the UK charts (oops). Eminem meanwhile also scored a second top 40 hit from his current album with 'Darkness' making a belated entry at #24. Turnstile and Mall Grab fell a place to #8 with 'I Wanna Be Blind' while SAINt JHN rose again to crack the top 10 for the first time with 'Roses' (Imanbek Remix) up 3 places to #9 in its third week.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHEST NEW ENTRY

Landing in at #3 is the first 'highest new entry' of the year that is actually a UK top 100 hit (albeit only charting at #84), Mac Miller claiming his highest charting song with ease with the album track 'Blue World', produced by Guy Lawrence from Disclosure and very much sounding like a Disclosure track with a trippy chopped up retro sample instrumental and a slightly more upbeat sound compared to the album's lead single 'Good News' (albeit still with some pretty sad lyrics).

OTHER NEW AND RETURNING ENTRIES

Two further songs debuted in the top 10. ROSALÍA's first proper new single release of 2020, 'Juro Que' (too flamenco for some), debuted at #7, giving her a 7th top 10 hit since January last year (it is already her third chart entry of the year following a couple of remix releases, her being added to Travis Scott's 'HIGHEST IN THE ROOM' and then Gesaffelstein remixing her own 'A Palé'). Hayley Williams' first solo single 'Simmer' also managed a #10 debut.

There weren't any proper 'album bombs' this week although a couple of releases did provide multiple debuts. The soundtrack to horror film 'The Turning' had been teased with several singles by various hype-worthy indie artists but none of them charted until now, with its final pre-release single 'Cop Car' by Mitski sneaking in at #38, outcharted by the album track 'Sleep It Off' by Alice Glass (of ex Crystal Castles fame) which was the clear highlight going in at #18. Techno producer Kölsch released a new 'double A-Side' with both songs charting, the Ten Walls esque 'Shoulder Of Giants' at #23 and the ominous chant infused 'Glypto' following close behind at #26. Four Tet also landed two new entries with new single 'Baby' (featuring uncredited Ellie Goulding) in at #27 while 'Anna Painting' from last year made a belated debut at #35 as the first song (other than my own) to chart from BJSC 121 after being unceremoniously dumped in the semi-finals, representing Skall. There was more song contest impact as my entry for the 90s themed tenth edition of Club Bizarre, 4hero's 'Journey From The Light', debuted at #30, while my 12 pointer in the contest, another rave track (DJ Seduction's 'Come On') went in at #37.

Other new entries this week: Calvin Harris' non-commercial return under the alias Love Regenerator landed a #13 debut with another rave-y track 'Hypnagogic (I Can't Wait)'; WILDES' beautiful 'Let You Go' (credit to Jade for the discovery) entered at #21; 'Speed Me Up' by Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Yachty and Sueco The Child, a song for the 'Sonic The Hedgehog' film, was way better than it had any right to be, debuting at #22; Bullant (an ambient techno solo project by Joey Walker of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard) debuted at #32 with 'XHamster Invoice' (I hope I'm not getting BuzzJack in trouble by just posting that title, it's an innocent song about hamsters I swear xx); Sega Bodega made his first appearance as an artist at #39 with the rather weird 'Salv Goes To Hollywood' after charting as the producer of Shygirl's 'BB'; and DJ Shadow landed a fourth top 40 hit from his 'Our Pathetic Age' album with 'Slingblade' sneaking in at #40 following a music video release. A video release also saw a re-entry at #28 for Billie Eilish's former top 3 hit 'everything i wanted'.

NEW PEAKS OUTSIDE THE TOP 10

J.I.D and EARTHGANG advanced two places to a new peak of #14 in their second week with 'Up Up Away' (feat. Vince Staples). Mac Miller also rose 6 places to #15 in his second week on the chart with 'Good News', alongside the good news of having this week's highest new entry.

THIS WEEK'S #1

A week after debuting at #3, Mac Miller now rises to claim a posthumous #1 with 'Blue World'. It is the second posthumous #1 since my chart's return last year following The Prodigy's 'We Live Forever' which hit #1 immediately after Keith Flint's death. Mac Miller also has a new entry for a third week in a row with 'I Can See', apparently featuring uncredited Ariana Grande backing vocals, debuting at #37 - I've heard all of his 'Circles' album now and the three songs that I've charted from it are the very clear highlights so that may be the last we'll see of Mac in my charts unless he has more posthumous releases.

IN THE TOP 10

070 Shake's 'Guilty Conscience' slips a place to #2, so unless it manages a return to #1 it'll be the first song to have exactly 3 weeks at #1 since my chart return. Glitchy chaotic madman producer Squarepusher has an album bomb this week following the release of 'Be Up A Hello', his first album under that name in 5 years; second single 'Nervelevers' climbs 9 places to a new peak of #3 (its third week in the top 5 out of four weeks in the chart in total) while follow-up single 'Terminal Slam' debuts at #12 and album tracks 'Speedcrank' and 'Mekrev Bass' debut at #22 and #31 respectively. Hayley Williams rises 6 places to a new peak of #4 in her second week with 'Simmer' while also landing the week's highest debut (more on that in a moment). Bombay Bicycle Club's 'I Can Hardly Speak' slips 2-5 on its fifth straight week in the top 5. There are also drops for Roddy Ricch's 'The Box' down 5-8 and Amtrac's 'Radical' (feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs) down 4-10.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHEST NEW ENTRY

Hayley Williams' highest song on my chart remains 'Simmer' but she does have a top 10 debut for the second week in a row and enters slightly higher this time, going in at #6 with 'Leave It Alone', the second single from her forthcoming solo album. Both songs have a pretty similar low-key and kind of spooky yet relaxing (?) vibe to them which I am digging a lot. Some pretty cool visuals for both songs as well. She's released 3 more songs now on an EP ahead of the full album release so we'll see if she manages more debuts next week.

OTHER NEW AND RETURNING ENTRIES

Dua Lipa's 'Physical' debuts at #7, immediately beating the peak of her last proper single 'Don't Start Now' which got to #8. I'm sure this will be a fairly low debut compared to many other personal charts though. x Gorillaz also land a top 10 debut at #9 with punky comeback single 'Momentary Bliss' featuring slowthai and Slaves, this is slowthai's 7th top 10 hit on my charts but the first appearance for both other artists since my chart return. Slaves haven't charted at all before now and, digging in my archives, it appears this is already Gorillaz' highest appearance in any of my charts with their only previous top 10 being a #10 peak for 'Doncamatic' (feat. Daley) though they have many songs I love that predate me having a personal chart. Expect 'Momentary Bliss' to climb next week anyway as it's already proving to be a fast grower.

In addition to the album bomb for Squarepusher a handful of EPs land chart debuts this week. Mall Grab's third EP release of the year (!) 'Sunflower' scores 2 debuts, with 'Switchblade' at #15 and 'Leaving Tokyo' at #26. Former Jadakissnia act OTHERLiiNE released their self-titled debut EP and also get two top 40 debuts with EP track 'Where We Get To' going in at #30, ahead of 'One Line', the third and final pre-release single from the EP, at #33. Finally Wild Nothing released the 'Laughing Gas' EP which gives them a second #40 smash with 'The World Is A Hungry Place' after the lead single 'Foyer' also peaked at #40.

Other new entries this week: Caribou just misses out on a first top 10 hit with 'Never Come Back' debuting at #11; Drain Gang member Ecco2k debuts at #23 with 'Peroxide' (released via his album 'E' a little while back but just hearing it now following its video release); a music video release also gives Tove Lo her first appearance on my chart since its comeback with 'Are U Gonna Tell Her?' (feat. MC Zaac) in at #28; DMA'S make their first appearance with the surprisingly synthy 'Life Is A Game Of Changing' at #32 (quite a substantial departure from the sound of previous songs I've heard by them, in a very good way x); several time BJSC artiste Sevdaliza debuts at #35 with 'Oh My God'; and Declan McKenna gets a second top 40 hit with 'Beautiful Faces' at #39, not as good as 'British Bombs' which is apparently left off his forthcoming album but what can ya do. Tame Impala's 'Lost In Yesterday' prematurely dropped out after a single week at #20 a couple of weeks back, but now resumes chart duty straight back in at #20 also following music video release impact.

NEW PEAKS OUTSIDE THE TOP 10

Just one this week as WILDES move up two places to #19 in their second week with 'Let You Go'.

THIS WEEK'S #1

...well I'm back to not having any songs since my chart return that had exactly 3 weeks at #1 as 070 Shake's 'Guilty Conscience' finds itself back at #1 for a fourth non-consecutive week after slipping to #2 last week.

IN THE TOP 10

A couple of last week's top 10 new entries surge upwards as the strongest contenders for a new #1 this week but fall just short. Gorillaz rise 7 places to #2 in their second week with 'Momentary Bliss' featuring slowthai and Slaves giving slowthai his 5th top 5 hit on my charts (small PSA: the Bré Forté 2.0 is only endorsing the music, which is still great no matter how much of a tit slowthai made of himself last night, separate art from artist etc. x) Just behind that, Dua Lipa improves on what was already her highest position in my chart to date, rising 4 places to #3 with 'Physical'. Both leapfrog last week's #1 'Blue World' by Mac Miller which slips 3 places to #4 as his 'album bomb' fades away. Hayley Williams' 'Simmer' is the only other survivor from last week's top 10, slipping 4-8, while her EP 'Petals For Armor I' surrenders a third top 40 entry with 'Sudden Desire' in at #30 (the third single 'Cinnamon' falls just short). Three songs rise into the top 10 for the first time: Caribou's 'Never Come Back' and Squarepusher's 'Terminal Slam' rise 11-6 and 12-9 in their second weeks to become their first and third top 10 hits respectively (the latter meaning Squarepusher maintains a top 10 presence despite 'Nervelevers' dropping heavily from #3 to #17), while J.I.D and EARTHGANG reverse course and climb again in their 4th week, up 7 places to a new peak of #10 with 'Up Up Away' (feat. Vince Staples), giving J.I.D his 5th top 10 and EARTHGANG their 3rd.

THIS WEEK'S HIGHEST NEW ENTRY

French pop icon Christine And The Queens had two low top 10 hits on my chart last year but now secures her highest chart position to date with a #5 debut with newest single 'People, I've Been Sad', a beautiful comeback even if some of the lyrics really do scream 'English is not my first language', bless her (at least I trust the French parts are probably grammatically correct). Luckily the few lyrical shortcomings are more than made up for by everything else about the song, particularly liking the backing vocals repeating each line in the verses.

OTHER NEW AND RETURNING ENTRIES

It's a relatively quiet week of debuts compared to other recent weeks with a mere 13 new entries, 4 of which are tracks from BJSC 121 which I can now chart following the reveal of the final results. Our 18, Utopia entry 'Chacabuco' by Right Hand Left Hand featuring Taliesyn Källström, is the first top 10 hit of the year from a BuzzJack contest (even ahead of my own entry which remains absent from the chart as I decided one token chart placement at the start of the contest was enough for a song that would have had a long chart run for me already if my chart existed in 2018), debuting at #7. Rolloland's Tides From Nebula debut at #20 with 'Dopamine', Fljótavík's De Grandi enter at #23 with 'Paris Nord-Est' and Daehun (a nation I haven't voted for for a long time) hit it out of the park to grab a #36 debut with REOL's 'ChiruChiru'. There aren't any real album bombs this week but 3 EPs I checked out this week chart one new entry each: Hayley Williams as already mentioned, Denzel Curry and Kenny Beats' 'UNLOCKED' EP charts its standout song 'Take_it_Back_v2' at #25 (the whole EP has super impressive animated visuals attached so was worth checking out even if most of the songs don't stand out too much in their own right x) and Jack Garratt's long awaited comeback 'Love, Death & Dancing (Vol. 1)' charts 'Mara' (imo a lot better than the actual single 'Time') just behind that at #26.

Other new entries this week: Joji finally releases a follow-up to his Bré Forté 2.0 top 3 hit 'Sanctuary' in the form of 'Run' which debuts at #13, quite possibly due to climb next week; a very pretty piano instrumental from Jon Hopkins, 'Scene Suspended', goes in at #16; Alan Fitzpatrick vs. Patrice Rushen debut at #33 with the funky 'Haven't You Heard'; beabadoobee makes her first chart appearance at #38 with the guitar heavy 'Sun More Often' following its music video release; and Niall Horan is 3 for 3 on top 40 hits from his new album as 'No Judgement' enters at #39 to match 'Put A Little Love On Me'.

NEW PEAKS OUTSIDE THE TOP 10

Mall Grab's 'Switchblade' improves on its debut to rise three places to #12. There's also a small second week improvement for Ecco2k's 'Peroxide' up a place to #22, and for Wild Nothing's 'The World Is A Hungry Place' which manages to avoid being a one week #40 wonder after all as it rises to #35.

Well I lasted 7 weeks without leaving this thread to rot, better than I expected tbh!

Quickly catching up, not gonna retroactively do the commentary for the last 6(!) charts that I didn't post yet as it'd take forever for something that probably no one reads, commentary returning for my newest chart and shall attempt to keep it up again for a while now ~
