Nicola Roberts has stepped out from behind the microphone and cut her teeth as a model for a ground-breaking new campaign - and she's managed to lose her clothes in the process.

The former Girls Aloud singer, 29, is the star of a new calendar and art exhibition called Red Hot, which celebrates ginger-haired women. The project, which aims to remove the stigma women with auburn-coloured tresses face, is raising money for the Anti-Bullying Alliance.

Stamford-born Nicola, who is the best friend of X Factor judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, looks sensational in the glamorous image that has been shot by photographer and film maker Thomas Knights.

Ditching her top to draw all attention to her hairdo, Nicola, who is the 'August' star of the calendar, can be seen staring directly into the camera as her flowing tousled locks hang loosely around her face.

The Promise hit maker's natural beauty is able to shine through, with just a slick of bold red lipstick and a smudge of brown eye shadow used to vamp up her look.

Pop star Nicola is one of 11 striking auburn-haired women featured in the calendar, alongside models, burlesque dancers and even a fire-eater.

Explaining why she decided to take part, Nicola told FEMAIL that it is important that young people 'have someone to identify with'.

'I'm so happy to be part of such a brilliant project. I hope Thomas continues to make the difference he is making with the anti bullying charities that benefit from his incredible photographs,' she said.

'Thomas told me some of the heart-warming encounters he has had with young red heads at his exhibitions. Some still do not realise the beauty and individuality their ginger hair gives them.

'I receive similar messages online, especially regarding pale skin.'

She added: 'I think it's important that people - and young people more so - have someone to identify with, especially if you're not yet confident with how you look.
'I really wanted to get involved. I love my red hair, I'm so glad I have it.'

The provocative shoot sees March star Zoe Heighton style her locks into a blunt bob and pose topless, covering her breasts with her arms.

Meanwhile, May beauty Emilia Sz also removes her clothes and showcases her flawless porcelain skin. She manages to hide her modesty with her hands.
