Obviously with Rita now gone to X Factor, there'll be at least one new member to the coaches for this series.

Daily Mail claims she wouldn't have been able to commit to The Voice next year anyway "It's never been about money for Rita. She loved her time on The Voice but her diary for early 2016 meant she wouldn't be able to commit to The Voice for a second series."

Perhaps the plan all along was for Kylie to come back? I wouldn't mind Kylie getting a second series, she was ok in her first series but at least better than Jessica Cornish.

Rochelle Humes.

Seriously I wouldn't mind Florence Welch, or Kylie coming back.

Posted by: LeeWallace 16th June 2015, 11:21 AM

I'm betting Mikey's house that Paloma Faith is the new judge.

Posted by: Robot 16th June 2015, 06:13 PM

Florence would be an AMAZING choice and very inspired, though I can't see it happening but what I think the show might need is someone LA Reid-esque, a record label boss, or a radio presenter like Grimshaw, someone is who is likely to be able to turn these performers into... you know, actual hit artists with a chance of getting their songs played.

Posted by: Liаm 16th June 2015, 06:34 PM

Either Paloma or Florence would be perfect imo, the latter moreso probably as she's more inspired as a choice I agree.

The coaches are *supposed* to be singers though. There's a few performances they have to do as part of their role.

Posted by: Cameron 20th June 2015, 05:36 PM

As long as we don't get 32 performances of Into The Blue again, I'm fine with Kylie returning.

32 performances of I Was Gonna Cancel would be amaze though *.*

Pls Nicole. She'd be perfect for The Voice - has the vocal talent and an amazing personality. She was the best thing about XF in 2012/13, so hopefully she could bring the same energy to The Voice.

Posted by: LeeWallace 1st July 2015, 04:41 PM

YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS PLZ.

She needs to release music during The Voice in order to be relevant again. I wonder if BBC Radio would support her if she became the star on The Voice. I predict her and Will.i.am would be amazing.

Posted by: JosephStyles 1st July 2015, 04:46 PM

Please god no, she got soooo irritating on X Factor sad.gif

Posted by: Noahspike 1st July 2015, 04:58 PM

They'll probably try to spin it like they're 'swapping' judges with the X Factor but that'll be hard when most people are aware Nicole was let go from that show due to a clause in Cheryl's contract laugh.gif. Otherwise I can't see how hiring a fired former X Factor judge could be a good move publicity-wise for The Voice when they already have the mild embarrassment of Rita clearly jumping ship, but regardless, Nicole seems like a great personality so it'd be nice to see her get the job and do well out of it.

Posted by: April 1st July 2015, 05:57 PM

I don't see how hiring Nicole would be embarrassing for them? If anything, hiring her would create more publicity than someone like Paloma Faith or bringing back Kylie.

Not embarrassing necessarily but I'd say it's likely to reinforce how 'inferior' the show is to the X Factor in the eyes of the public, along with possibly blurring the lines between their supposedly different premises as talent shows (not that The Voice probably even cares that much about differentiating itself as being more noble than its rival anymore). But yeah, any publicity is good publicity I guess.

So happy Paloma is on there, I've always wanted to see her as a judge on one of these shows as she is made for them. She has one of the biggest personalities in music and is HILARIOUS.

Boy George is an interesting choice but should be good entertainment, a lot better than Tom Jones at least!

Posted by: troylovesmusic 14th August 2015, 01:49 PM

Aw I'm gonna miss Tom on the voice sad.gif I think Paloma was kind of inviteable she's performed a few times on the show before .

Confirmed that the fifth series will be the last on the BBC, with another broadcaster (highly likely to be ITV) poaching the show. The BBC stated that they didn't want to enter into bidding wars.

Posted by: *Tim 7th November 2015, 01:28 PM

Good, maybe ITV can recreate the succes the Dutch version has had

Posted by: Matt Aloud 7th November 2015, 01:51 PM

Why would the ITV want that AND the X Factor. Surely Sky would be more likely?

QUOTE
Today the BBC announced that they will cease airing the UK incarnation of The Voice after its upcoming fifth season. The reason? They have been outbid by rival network ITV.
Interestingly, prior to the talent-search’s arrival in UK in 2012, it was the subject of a fierce bidding war between the two channels after the success of the US series highlighted how lucrative it could be.

The BBC triumphed at the time, yet have been under scrutiny ever since. Unlike other media mediums, the BBC is funded by the British public (by way of a compulsory licence fee). As such, the show’s so-so ratings, lack of viable winner, and similarity to other talent-searches have had many publicly wondering whether it was worth what was being paid to the format owners Talpa and Wall to Wall.
It seems this latest happening was almost destined to play out as such, because ITV recently bought Talpa for £355m ($543m).

And while the BBC were still keen to air The Voice for another two years (and made a final bid this summer), they say they have limits. Acting Director of Television Mark Linsey said in a statement today:

Well yes, but ITV Studios do make stuff for Sky.

But yes, I can see ITV wanting this, which inevitably means The X Factor is on its way out!

Posted by: Ryan. 9th November 2015, 06:48 PM

Yeah it makes sense as the X Factor contract finishes next year, so perfect timing for The Voice to take over in 2017. Hopefully the fact ITV won't have all the restrictions BBC have will mean The Voice will create some stars!

Posted by: lewistgreen 23rd November 2015, 02:23 PM

Today, ITV have confirmed that they have picked up The Voice UK for 3 series starting from 2017, with a new show The Voice Kids (for 2 series) in tow as well. There'll also be a spin-off show on ITV2.

Posted by: Martyn 23rd November 2015, 10:59 PM

Gotta be the end of The X factor next year. Can't see ITV keeping both of those and BGT.

Posted by: Liаm 24th November 2015, 09:15 AM

I kind of hope they don't keep both, as much as I prefer XF to The Voice. Imagine the TV snobs if they do laugh.gif While it won't be as popular as the normal edition, I can see them airing the kids version in a similar way to C5 with CBB (except only one series). Probably the normal version when X Factor airs and then the kids one in between the two series.

Posted by: Scherz 24th November 2015, 10:20 AM

In their statement, ITV said that The Voice was joining their family alongside The X Factor.
Granted, it could be to save face but I do think it will stay in the same slot that it had on the BBC. I mean, people watched it so soon after X Factor finished before?

With the addition of Paloma Faith, we finally have a judge prepared to come close to saying "I didn't like it".

Posted by: Mart!n 9th January 2016, 08:36 PM

Not the best line up of judges, its going so slow, and the only decent act so far, was the first act, the rest seem to be so out of tune as if they don't want to be there.

I completely agree, I've noticed it more and more with each episode and it's annoying me. He tries to play the underdog role too much and there's something quite smarmy about him. He pretends as though everyone is the winner when he's doing his pitches and makes them believe that he will definitely choose to take them through to the live shows, hyping them up beyond belief. It's upsetting as I love the Kaiser Chiefs. sad.gif

Posted by: mdh 9th January 2016, 10:33 PM

I quite enjoyed it, but Ricky seems to be deliberately involving himself less and less, for example not doing much of a pitch at all for anyone and not getting involved in any conversations with the other judges, while the other 3 did full pitches for all the artists they'd turned for and had lots of banter between auditions.

Posted by: Froot. 9th January 2016, 10:33 PM

I've been waiting and waiting for her to become a judge on something because she's hilarious and always honest, both of which she showed tonight.

In the last series, he seemed to try too hard. As a result, he filled his team rather early. Perhaps he is trying to avoid that this year.

As I said earlier, it was good to see a judge prepared to say she didn't like a performance.

It's a shame Bernie Clifton chose a career as an ostrich jockey rather than a singer. I was never a fan of his comedy act, although he came across well tonight.

Though I'll probably do my usual and give up after 4 episodes as I have done with every series bar the first 1 kink.gif

Posted by: burbe 10th January 2016, 02:06 PM

Cody Frost was incredible - a potential winner already. I loved the version of the song she sang. She gives me Leah McFall meets James Arthur vibes.

Posted by: Froot. 10th January 2016, 02:32 PM

She was definitely the best out of an overall poor show but I think that was more down to the arrangement of the song for me.

Posted by: Mart!n 16th January 2016, 08:11 PM

This show just got better, the drag queen... brilliant, shame no one turned not even Boy George laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm 16th January 2016, 08:15 PM

Didn't watch last week's but Paloma is lovely! I've loved Charley and Megan too, the latter's song choice was brilliant.

Posted by: Jack 16th January 2016, 08:15 PM

I know Of Owen in real life, a really nice guy and amazing in drag. Hope this gets him more exposure at least, amazing at opera but not at actual singing.

Posted by: burbe 16th January 2016, 10:27 PM

Paloma was much more watchable this week and Boy George's one liners remain brilliant.

Lydia Lucy was easily the best this week, imo.

Posted by: Froot. 21st January 2016, 11:52 PM

Ricky annoyed me more than ever with that gospel woman, yass at Boy George completely seeing through it all though haha!

Posted by: Liаm 21st January 2016, 11:59 PM

Yes Ricky is annoying me too. It's like he doesn't particularly want to be there but just sort of begrudgingly wants to see the last BBC series out, you can tell he just gives no shits.

Posted by: Liаm 24th January 2016, 05:58 PM

My god this series is a step down. It's quite boring, seems to be too many non turns and nobody particularity great normally. I did really like the Dublin girl tonight though And I hate their really flimsy reasons for not turning, I get that they only have 12 spots but stuff like "it was my song" and "lol but you were perfect actually xxxx" just bore me!

Ricky is being such a knob recently. So unlikeable this series!

Posted by: Joe. 24th January 2016, 06:09 PM

I watched an episode this morning on catch up - I'm not sure if it was from this week or last week but...

That woman with the back story of not knowing who her biological father was so odd! I felt like they were really stretching for a story for her, it seemed utterly bizarre and irreverent.

That woman who sang Karen Harding was so good! Why didn't they turn? She killed especially the second half of the song.

Posted by: Mart!n 24th January 2016, 06:29 PM

This series has been utter rubbish, the performances last night was bad.

Since ITV have poached the series, my guess they will be looking for 4 new judges next year.

Yeah that was last night's which I just watched too. I agree it was so weird, that feels like an X Factor trope that they shouldn't need to resort it. They seem to be doing that a few times this series and it's just not needed when they go on about focusing on the voice alone!

Posted by: burbe 24th January 2016, 06:37 PM

Yep, the talent is really average this series. Definitely not as good or entertaining as last series and I haven't warmed to Boy George or Paloma.

The BBC has lost The Voice at the right time; the show is looking quite tired and ITV will have to work hard to overhaul it next series.

Posted by: Suedehead2 24th January 2016, 08:36 PM

All the coaches seem to be desperate not to fill their teams too quickly this year. Of course, this could mean they end up with people they don't really want at the end of the blind auditions!

Posted by: Froot. 24th January 2016, 08:39 PM

The talent really has been terrible this year, all so average.

Posted by: ThePensmith 30th January 2016, 06:06 AM

I don't know if it's been mentioned on this thread already but on tonight's episode Kevin Simm (formerly of Liberty X of course) auditions...

Tonight is also supposed to be that argument between Boy George and Paloma.

Posted by: Joe. 30th January 2016, 09:00 PM

Ricky overdoing it as usual.

Posted by: burbe 30th January 2016, 11:24 PM

Kevin Simm was incredible. Easily the best audition of the series so far!

Posted by: Froot. 1st February 2016, 11:57 AM

Yeh, Kevin was by far the best audition so far!

Blew everyone else out of the water. Overall though, the singers have really been average but I guess when there's no chance of a career, then the best singers aren't going to apply.

Posted by: Suedehead2 2nd February 2016, 09:34 PM

I've just watched Kevin's audition again. It was head and shoulders above anything on the series so far. I can't help wondering how things might have turned out if he hadn't got involved with Liberty X. His association with them seems to have damaged his chances of a solo career. If he can reliance his career from this, it will be a great way for the BBC version of the show to end.

Posted by: poppet15 21st February 2016, 01:20 PM

Rachel Ann - In For The Kill
She sure did that and it was amazing. Began a little nervous but WOW!!
I certainly didn't expect that after all the other average auditions. And she's only 16.

Deserves to win!!

I've played this 10 times today. Her parts go from tolerable to terrible.

His are perfect. I've been close to tears watching this. The strings are great. It's the sort of song that no one should cover but somehow he did it justice.

Posted by: Suedehead2 5th March 2016, 07:58 PM

I was also surprised that the song was chosen. It's such an emotional song that it was hard to see anyone else doing it justice, but Alaric's vocals were fantastic.

Posted by: poppet15 6th March 2016, 10:58 AM

Another song that should never be covered.
For the battle between Leighton Jones & Eli Cripps Boy George chose my all time favourite Motown ballad.
If I Were Your Woman by Gladys Knight & The Pips from 1970. Unfortunately not a UK hit but massive in US Canada & Australia.
It must be one of the top 10 Motown ballads ever.

It was excruciating to listen to - they ruined it. - He shouted she screamed.

Here's the original Gladys Knight version - you can see what I mean:

Posted by: popchartfreak 19th March 2016, 10:41 AM

If I Were Your Woman is still a showstopper, Gladys did it in concert last year in a mashup with Bruno Mars If I Was Your Man, just fab. Gladys can still out-sing most people. We have become accustomed to singers-as-stories or singers-as-packages or singers-as-teen-idols, so it's great when a genuinely (and surprisingly) good singer like Kevin Simm turns up in singing contests. Let's not forget, he was one of the rejects from a singing contest 13 years ago, and is now head and shoulders over the latest crop, that's how low standards have dropped over the years. That said, there is still room for the ability to personalise a song in a new way, and the other stand-out in that respect is Jordan..

Posted by: Suedehead2 20th March 2016, 01:28 PM

As this comment mentions one of the song choices for tonight, I'll put it in spoiler tags.

One of tonight's contestants has chosen to tackle Unchained Melody. Given the brilliance of the Righteous Brothers version, that can only be described as a brave choice.

Posted by: Liаm 2nd April 2016, 06:41 PM

First time watching this since like the 3rd show of blinds (I think it was there I stopped) - Lydia is brilliant wub.gif A ready made popstar too, not that it matters on here! Always thought she had a lot more potential when she was on X Factor. So far Heather is very good too, Cody was a bit shouty and I thought she was quite rude too actually :/ Kevin is the most talented but eh not my thing really, and Lyrickal was bloody horrendous!

Posted by: Ryan. 2nd April 2016, 06:47 PM

I haven't really been paying attention to this series, I've had it on in the background but not really taking it in too much. Lydia just now though was an X Factor winner-worthy performance and a class above the rest, reminded me a bit of Isa in Melodifestivalen too! Really enjoyed Heather's performance too tonight, Kevin and Cody were good but not the best I've seen from them.

Well, two of my three choices (Kevin and Jolan) got through. Shame about Jordan sad.gif

Posted by: burbe 2nd April 2016, 08:56 PM

Very predictable final 4, but definitely the right people through!

Posted by: Mart!n 2nd April 2016, 09:32 PM

Gutted about Jordan probably was the best talent act on the show along with Kevin Simm, not too fussed about the chosen 4 finalists, my gut feeling Lydia is going to actually win the show next week. I just find her common as muck.

Posted by: Froot. 3rd April 2016, 10:16 AM

Definitely the best four acts through for me, although its awkward for Paloma. The female judge having a slot in the final stolen from her by Ricky again! kink.gif

Kevin is by far the best vocalist they've ever had and one of the best seen on the talent shows. I hope something does come from this for him, being a part of a mildly successful group is nowhere near representative of his talent.

Jolan is fantastic soul singer and Cody just makes everything her own in a brilliantly dark manner. Lydia is of course a very commercial artist but she does give me a lot of Cher Lloyd vibes.

Posted by: LeeWallace 3rd April 2016, 03:35 PM

Paloma biggrin.gif

I think Zara stole the show.

Posted by: poppet15 4th April 2016, 11:48 AM

3 of my choices got through

Jolan, Lydia & Cody -- Kevin is horrendous

KYDIA to win heart.gif

Posted by: troylovesmusic 4th April 2016, 01:47 PM

The right 4 defintely went through IMO. Backing Lydia to win cause she went to my old College biggrin.gif but she would probably be my favourite if I didn't know her anyways .

Posted by: Froot. 6th April 2016, 10:01 PM

Interesting that today, Radio 1's Facebook page made a post about Cody's performance on Saturday. I wonder if she would be an act they would finally support?

Posted by: Liаm 8th April 2016, 04:38 PM

The winner's single is an original called All You Good Friends ohmy.gif It's written by Jamie Hartman and Nina Woodford - Nina has written for Sugababes, Leona Lewis, Jay Sean and The Saturdays - and it's produced by Peter John Vettese whp has worked with James Bay and Sia.

Plus all 4 versions will be made available after the show, not just the winner!

Posted by: Suedehead2 8th April 2016, 07:11 PM

Interesting. They must have changed the format of the final again. Last year only the final two performed the winner's song.

Posted by: Red. 9th April 2016, 07:11 PM

Will.i.am. performing his new single as his duet with Lydia. Get that promo will lol.

Posted by: Mart!n 9th April 2016, 07:42 PM

I really thought the two girls would get into the final 2, I was wrong there. As for the winners track is boring as hell at least its an original track instead of a cover version. I'm going for Kevin to win it now.

Posted by: Jimmy Jam 9th April 2016, 07:52 PM

floored Lydia didn't make final 2 and win tbh

I've just watched Kevin's audition again. It was head and shoulders above anything on the series so far. I can't help wondering how things might have turned out if he hadn't got involved with Liberty X. His association with them seems to have damaged his chances of a solo career. If he can relaunch his career from this, it will be a great way for the BBC version of the show to end.

Now he gets his chance. Let's see what happens.

Posted by: Ryan. 9th April 2016, 08:03 PM

Was pretty sure Kevin was going to win ever since last week, only surprise is that I thought Cody would be in the final 2 over Jolan. I slightly preferred Jolan's version of the winner's single, but from what I've seen Kevin was the outstanding act throughout the series despite how much I liked Lydia.

Really pleased for him though, very deserving winner and the best winner The Voice has produced so far. In fact any of this year's 4 finalists would've have been the best winner so far!

Posted by: burbe 9th April 2016, 08:11 PM

I'm glad Kevin won - he's easily the best of the final four. Very surprised to see Jolan top 2 over Lydia and Cody. I thought Lydia's performance tonight was spot on and she deserved top 2 after it. Oh well, hopefully Will might make her a success despite his failed attempt with Leah McFall.

I found Kevin a bit overrated, probably the best vocally which I suppose is the point of the show but I don't think he was as amazing as people/the judges made out laugh.gif I think it didn't help he sang songs like Chandelier and Rolling In The Deep which I often don't like people to tackle! He was MUCH better than Jolan, we'll leave it at that.

I like the fact that the singers take risks by doing songs many viewers may not want to see covered. Jolan (or whoever chose the song) took a big risk in covering McAlmont & Butler's Yes, but he did it very well. A previous contestant did a decent version of Unchained Melody, depute the fact that it is hard to imagine anyone ever doing it better than the Righteous Brothers.

Kevin's versions of Chandelier and RITD were both very good, with the songs being suitably adapted to suit his voice. All too often, contestants in shows like this try to do an exact copy of the original (or most famous) version. Thankfully, The Voice regularly avoids this.

I actually liked three of the four finalists this year, which is more than in previous series. While the early shows this year weren't great, the people who got to the latter stages were better than in the last four years.

Posted by: poppet15 10th April 2016, 01:24 PM

Sorry but wrong choice for me. Most likely a one hit wonder.

I think he was so ordinary compared to Jolan

I think Lydia should have won by miles with Jolan runner-up - Cody 3rd and Kevin a distant last.

Posted by: LeeWallace 10th April 2016, 02:33 PM

I'm hoping The Voice have him promoting throughout the week to ensure that he has a chance of debuting in the top 20, It's a very good song so hopefully Radio 1 eventually decide to support The Voice contestants.

Posted by: troylovesmusic 10th April 2016, 03:38 PM

I'm just catching up with this. I think the girls Cody and Lydia were robbed personally. I enjoyed there solo performances a lot more than Kevin and Jolan's both showed a lot more star quality . I didn't mind Kevin and I suspected he would probably win but I'm amazed one of the girls didn't get in the final 2 with him instead of Jolan who I found quite dull .

Posted by: LeeWallace 11th April 2016, 03:51 AM

Odds for next judge

1/2 Will I Am
5/6 Boy George
6/4 Cheryl Fernandez Versini
6/4 Paloma Faith
6/4 Nicole Scherzinger
2/1 Meghan Trainor
5/2 Mel B
4/1 Pixie Lott

YASSSS PIXIE.

Not seen much of this series at all. Only caught the end of Kevin's final performance and saw his audition, but now I've seen Will's 'Boys & Girls' performance with Lydia, which prompted me to go and see her 'No One' performance... is she Cher Lloyd's sister or relative or something? She's identical not only vocally or as a performer, but she really looks like her too! laugh.gif

She'll be one I'm keeping an eye on in the future! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Robot 15th May 2016, 10:38 PM

Not sure where to say this but there's strong rumours Lydia Lucy is going to replace Fergie in The Black Eyed Peas amongst the tabloids at the moment.

Posted by: Liаm 16th May 2016, 12:45 PM

I saw it on Digital Spy and was like !! WTF but it said it was at one show. I'd rather she had a solo career as she has so much potential, but I guess that would give her some modicum of success which is pretty unlikely but either way it's quite random laugh.gif

Emma Willis confirmed to be hosting this on ITV, no mention of Marvin! Emma continuing her slayage of all programmes on TV wub.gif

Emma *.*

Marvin has said he won't be returning I believe!

Posted by: Martyn 12th June 2016, 01:59 AM

I couldn't find a topic on this. Have people seen the news about The Voice US singer Christina Grimmie being shot? I'm not sure why but it's really upset me.

In The Lounge there is! But yes it hasn't left my mind all day, just awful sad.gif

What kind of scraping is Gavin Rossdale though laugh.gif

J-Hud cheer.gif

Posted by: Liаm 28th September 2016, 10:08 PM

What a crap panel, J-Hud aside *.* Like I adore her but she doesn't have much name power in the UK and Gavin bloody Rossdale certainly doesn't!! He's only known for being the reason that Gwen Steani moans every 5 minutes about her divorce and her broken heart and parades Blake Shelton everywhere.

Posted by: JosephStyles 28th September 2016, 10:59 PM

omg I am so HERE for J-Hud!! NO idea who Gavin Rossdale is lol but otherwise I'm happy with this panel!

Posted by: burbe 28th September 2016, 10:59 PM

J-Hud is such an inspired choice heart.gif

Posted by: Froot. 29th September 2016, 10:30 PM

I really don't understand what's gone on here? I thought that it being on ITV would have meant a bigger budget and therefore maybe bigger stars but...

Gavin Rossdale is the most bizarre judging choice for a singing show that I've ever seen (I thought the BBC getting Amber Riley for their Gary Barlow show was quite embarrassing). Really not sure what went on there at all? In terms of name power, Jennifer isn't perhaps the best choice either, and they could do better buuut she can obviously sing and she could provide the entertainment. I guess she has swipped the film awards too!
