009 Ladytron 'Destroy Everything You Touch' (31-04-04-04-04-06-02-03-06-11-16*)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtqGoHouoE0

Do not know what you steal, shakes your hand, takes your gun, walks you out of the sun...

A song over 2 years old in my top 10 of the year! Naughty! I wouldn't normally but I have to. It's a fantastic song that I never knew in its original 2005 release but have loved now since early 2006! I thought with them re-issuing a song and album so old they'd be re-promoting it and trying to actually get some success but it wasn't to be as it flopped much worse than it did first time round. One of two recent songs in my top 10 still on my chart.

This was my 14th favourite song of the year (probably would've been higher had it not been old)but 7th best performing thanks to 8 weeks in the top 6 giving it 573 points, one less than.....

008 The Shortwave Set 'Casual Use' (05-02-02-04-02-03-06-07-11-15-25-35)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJsE1-LlvjU

She picks me up when I get down, she picks me up when I get down (get down)...

Another song which wasn't actually released in 2007. It was released late last year but I never discovered it until very late on and as it's so good I had to chart it in 2007 instead. It samples Madness (I've always known this but I've still not got round to finding out which song. And Virgin Radio never tell me. I remember hearing them play it and as I was so used to it being the intro to this instead I thought 'OH MY GOD VIRGIN ARE PLAYING THE SHORTWAVE SET. But, of course, I was being stupid!). I will find out though. Would probably be in my top 5 had it been allowed to climb to peak. The only act to appear in both this years and last years top 10 after the success of 'Repeat To Fade'.

My 4th favourite song of the year but my 16th best performing giving it 574 pts...

007 The Shins 'Australia' (25-14-04-04-01-02-04-07-10-11-13-14-16-22-28-34-40)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHTSxw6zN1E

You be damned to be one of us girl, faced with the dodo’s conundrum...

Without wanting to give too much away this isn't my favourite Shins single of the year. It was the first song by them that really made me taje notice of them. 'Phantom Limb' was good but it wasn't until they released this that I was able to appreciate their greatness in full. A brilliant pop song made by an indie band. It's a shame that this can't be as big as the utterly repulsive, repetitive and generic indie-pop which does make the upper reaches of our charts.

My 11th favourite song of the year and my 5th best performing giving it 578 pts.

006 LCD Soundsystem 'Someone Great' (12-02-01-01-04-05-05-07-10*)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaYsczkWti0

The worst is all the lovely weather. I'm sad, it's not raining...

Not as instant as 'North American Scum' or as catchy as 'All My Friends' but certainly as good. Better, infact. I love the way it builds and builds over 7 minutes, the way it starts of simple and more and more instruments and hooks get added until the vocal. I didn't particularly like the album when I first got it and never really paid any of it any attention until in September I put iTunes on random and this came on. It just grabbed me instantly. It's so unbelievably good. I've never completely understood his hype but now I've come to realise it's fully deserved.

My 8th favourite song of the year and my 8th best performing giving it 578 pts. It is placed above 'Australia' as I like it more!

005 The Hold Steady 'Stuck Between Stations' (30-30-31-21-16-06-01-01-01-02-05-08-12-22-26-37)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Isvn_Dsj2bA

There was that night that we thought John Berryman could fly, but he didn’t so he died...

This wasn't a song I instantly liked and looked like it was going to sink without a trace until I suddenly clicked and it took a slow climb up to the top of my chart. It's not something I would usually like, more of a bar rock band with a singer that sounds like Springsteen who I've never particularly liked. But there's just something about them that's completely brilliant and catches me every time I listen to any of their songs. Quite hyped in the music press, but fully deserved.

My 2nd favourite song of the year but only my 10th best performing giving it 582 pts.

004 Groove Armada ft Mutya Buena 'Song 4 Mutya (Out Of Control)' (27-18-09-06-03-02-02-01-01-05-05-10-11-12-15-19-22-23-26)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lMJW4V49Yc

So I pulled up to the red light, sittin' here in my car, I look up to my right, and there you are...

I first got this when it originally leaked back in about March. I instantly loved it. How is it possible not to? I charted pretty much then as I couldn't wait for a release and knew I'd probably be bored of it by the time it was out because of how much I'd played it. And I was right, a bit. It wouldn't have performed anything like as well in the summer but it was still great and still is. The best thing either act has done. The best pop song of the year (if you consider 'With Every Heartbeat' to be dance wink.gif ).

My 7th favourite song of the year and my 3rd best performing giving it 584 pts.

003 The Shins 'Turn On Me' (25-01-01-01-01-01-01-01-02-04-07-10-15-23-29-34-37-39)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIRmyfKOAfM

All our favorite ruddy sons, and their double-barrelled guns, you'd better hurry rabbit, run, run, run...

7 weeks at number one yet still doesn't quite manage to make the number one. But rightly so as it's not as good as the two that finished above it. Right from when I got the album back in about March this was about my favourite track on it and it always had been. From the fantastic riff at the beginning to incredibly catchy chorus. If this was played all day on every radio station it'd surely still be in the top 40, wouldn't it? But because they're A) good and B.) Not the 'next big thing' their wondefully poppy indie has been ignored.

My 6th favourite song of the year and my 4th best performing giving it 584 pts. It finishes ahead of 'Song 4 Mutya' because I like it more, but only marginally.

Sugababes should actually be higher I think. It keeps growing on me all the time. I've began to adore it...

002 Interpol 'The Heinrich Maveuver' (22-15-12-06-02-01-01-02-02-04-05-06-05-14-12-20-21-22-26-31-38)

You wear those shoes like a dove, now strut those shoes we'll go roaming in the night...

Oh how I was glad that one of the decades best bands were returning this year. And what a return. I wasn't sure about it to begin with but after a few listens it grew and grew. A superb song which although isn't quite my favourite by them, would definitely be in my top 3. Had they released different 2nd & 3rd singles there could still have been more Interpol to come. But there's not, all that's left is the one song worthy of beating it...

My 3rd favourite song of the year and my best performing giving it 590 pts.

001 Robyn 'With Every Heartbeat' (38-25-09-08-03-01-01-03-04-04-02-06-09-11-13-15-20-23-26-29-36)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3vfLvZCdT9g

We can keep trying but things will never change...

The best song of the year a UK number one. Who'd have thought it? 'Dakota' wasn't far off, 'Crazy' came a bit closer but this is the first time an actual number one single has been worthy of single of the year. It took a few listens before I thought it was anything more than just a good song but it didn't take too long. It's impossible not to fall in love with it. So simple yet so brilliant at the same time. The lyrics aren't particularly clever or deep but the way they're delivered is just perfect. The string section and then the repetition of 'and it hurts with every heartbeat' is divine and I could listen to it all day. Excellent to see a song by a female do so well because it relies on the quality of the tune, not bikinis and FHM! If I bother to do a top 100 singles of all time again this year then expect atleast one very high new entry.

My favourite song of the year (by a MILE) and my 2nd best performing giving it 591 pts.
