Sophie's disco has been a huge success online during lockdown, even nabbing her a one-off Radio 2 show in May too. Now, she's announced a 2021 tour and an album to go with it! Described as a hits collection with some covers thrown in too, the album will also have a brand new single included with it to be announced soon.
Thanks for posting I bought two signed cds and concert tickets for London
Running Wild is the only song I've heard from her
Oops I meant Wild Forever what a banger that is
I've never actually heard Murder before! Just looked it up, and I don't recognise it.
As if there are people that don't know 'Murder on the Dancefloor.' Sophie coming for longevity.
'Murder on the Dancefloor' seems to have randomly become relevant again with people around my age too (I guess music comes back around every 20 years or so) so it's surprisingly to think you've missed it completely! Surely you'll have heard 'Groovejet'?
Why is k*tchen now a taboo word?
This is really blagging my mind.
'Groovejet' is one of the most overrated songs ever. I have never and will never understand why that's rated so much!
'Murder On The Dancefloor', 'Bittersweet' & 'Catch You' are my fave SE-B tracks
'Murder On The Dancefloor' is magnificent and I love the video as well. The nostalgia <3 'Music Gets The Best of Me' is fab as well. Read My Lips in general is strong quality!
Intrigued to see what and how many covers make the album.
I honestly cannot believe there are people over here who have never heard either Murder or Groovejet!! HOW is that possible (or Get Over You).
Quite excited for this, although it's kind of her second greatest hits in a row and I am very ready for some new material. Wonder which covers she will include this time, as she did some fun ones during her Intsagram sessions. The tour sounds like so much fun as well.
I hope her version of ‘Don’t leave me this way’ makes it.
This could potentially do quite well. The orchestral collection was a bit hit and miss and didn’t quite catch on with the public but a danced up version of songs will be a lot more popular. Looking forward to seeing what’s on it!
The orchestral album was way too long ......
Radio 2 are treating us to another Kitсhen Disco show on Monday with Sophie from 7pm
Lead single cover of Alcazar’s Crying at the Discotheque gets it’s first play on Radio 2 from 7:30am tomorrow!
So ready for it!
A cool cover choice !!
And it’s out on Friday. I think this’ll be a great choice as the lead single
I know she's very fond of that song and has been performing it live for at least 15 years, but it'll be fabulous! The Alcazar version is a huuuuge favourite of mine, and this sounds like exactly what we need in 2020!
I’ love her but I really hope she can do the legends that are Alcazar justice
I love(d) Alcazar so so much! Please let this be a good cover, Sophie!
This suits her voice so well, love it on first listen, think it was like 7:50am if anyone wants to find it on Radio 2 website.
Will this be released tomorrow or tonigh?
It's basically exactly the same as the original, but that's no bad thing!
Track list has been announced;
1. Groove jet (If this ain’t love) 2020
2. Take me home
3. Murder on a dance floor
4. Get over you
5. Music gets the best of me
6. Mixed up world
7. Catch you
8. Me and my imagination
9. Today the sun’s on us
10. Bittersweet
11. Starlight
12. Not giving up on love
13. Heartbreak (make me a dancer)
14. Young blood
15. True faith (live)
16. Do you remember the first time?
17. Come with us
18. Wild forever
19. Crying at the discotechque
20. My favourite things
This looks a lot better than the orchestral thing she released recently. Does anyone know if the hits will be remixed or are the original versions? I know groovejet is a remix and have heard it’s Freemasons mix.
I shouldn't like this as I love the original, but I actually think this is alright
It's basically the original backing track with Sophie's vocals on it which are quite nice I have to say. I don't think I could ever prefer it over the original though cos the original is a pop classic.
Yeah its basically a carbon copy of the originally, but not as well produced. Still a banger
Crying at the discotechque seems a bit flat compared to the original. It’s certainly not her best.
I won’t change you getting snubbed!!
So it's basically another greatest hits. Thought they would be live or re recorded versions but with only 2 of them saying live or 2020 I presume the rest are the normal versions
I figured it would be an all covers album...but fair enough with the re-recordings :')
The album still isn’t available to preorder on Amazon 🙁
I thought there would be more covers !!
This started well on iTunes .
Is this album only going to be available via the store? Still not listed on Amazon or anywhere else for that matter and it’s supposed to be out on 23rd Oct.
Another greatest hits lol but the disco version...
The album has been delayed until November according to someone on popjustice.
Yep, November 10th. Good news, Amazon has some signed copies now. Bad news though, https://www.superdeluxeedition.com/news/order-a-signed-sophie-ellis-bextor-cd/
November 10th is a Tuesday.
Will Spiller ever put the edits of Groovejet on Spotify etc?
Seems like just throwing easy income for both him and Sophie down the drain not to have such a big hit available to stream in its most popular version.
It's a curious choice to move the album back to there! Putting it right in the thick of the Christmas rush, and with Crying on the Radio 2 A-list and riding high on iTunes, next week possibly would have seen it grab a top ten placing. Not so sure that will happen in mid-November, unless she's bagged a Strictly performance or something?
She's one artist whose almost entire career is full of grave errors, so I can't say this surprises me.
I can only assume it must be some kind of distribution issue?
Totally reignited my love for If this aint love!
It’s finally available to preorder on Amazon!
Music video for 'Crying at the Discotheque' premieres at 7:30 GMT tomorrow, following Sophie's appearance on The One Show!
Can't stop listening to her cover! I know it's really faithful to the original but it works so well with her vocal.
And here it is, filmed in several London venues to highlight how much has been put on hold due to the pandemic
What a clever video
Why did Sophie change the spelling of the title? With Alcazar (and whoever else it has covered yet) it's Discoteque, but Sophie writes DiscotHeque, why?
Album is out but most songs blocked in my country (UK). Must be an error.
Oh so it’s an actual greatest hits and not just live recordings! Nice to finally have an edited down ‘Groovejet’ on Spotify, even if it’s a re-recorded vocal.
I accidentally ordered this twice, oops (forgot I'd pre-ordered and was too late to cancel). Still, if it helps her to the top ten! *prays*
It's a shame she didn't discofy some of the songs... 'Young Blood' would be fantastic upbeat.
This is almost impossible to find on Spotify for some reason...
You need to scroll right to the bottom of her discography and it's under 'compilations'. I don't know why it's not highlighted at the top as a new album release though.
No. There's only the 7 minute version.
oh i was hoping this album meant we’d finally get the proper radio edit on spotify, how annoying that its a re-recording instead.
I'm guessing there must be some legal issues regarding the track if Sophie had to re-record. Annoying but this new version is pretty faithful to the original at least.
Really enjoyed listening to this album, she's so fantastic
I'd have liked to have seen Move This Mountain and I Won't Change You included to make it feel more complete though. I really underrated Not Giving Up On Love and Come With Us at the time of their respective releases, they sound better than ever now.
Of the new tracks, the Groovejet re-record is a scarily faithful reproduction seeing as the backing track must have been produced from the ground up. Hopefully one day the original radio edit will make it to streaming platforms. The New Order and Pulp covers are both really good, although I think I have the former on a Radio 2 album, and her cover of My Favourite Things is a great album closer, very West End, she sounds great on it.
Looking forwards to giving this a listen on Spotify, might purchase a copy too!
The CD is not stocked in Sainsburys or Tesco so most people will have to purchase the CD online.
Half the album is still not available on Apple Music !!
Like gooddelta said, I am really impressed with how they've managed to replicate 'Groovejet' to sound almost exactly like the original considering they've had to literally remake it from scratch.
It works of a sample though doesn't it... so I can't imagine it was that hard?
Nice to see this in the top ten, hopefully streaming will make this "sell" even in small amounts as time passes.
oh my wasn't this supposed to be a covers album? when did it change from covers to GH?
That was never the plan. Her K!tchen Disco shows have basically been her own songs and the occasional cover.
I hope this stays top 10 for her, number 7 yday and 8 today so hopefully she can hold on.
She's mentioned a few times that she didn't perform I Won't Change You at the Kitchen Discos because she doesn't have the backing track and the masters for that album were all lost. Is that why it's also not on the greatest hits? I'd have thought she'd re-recorded it if she'd wanted it on there.
Didn't even sell 200 copies yesterday. :/ Thankfully it seems she will still have enough of a lead over #11 to remain Top 10 come Friday.
I ordered two cds am still waiting for them !!
Anyone know why all songs are on Spotify but most of the hits are not on Apple Music ?
Anyone know why all songs are on Spotify but most of the hits are not on Apple Music ?
Sophie has done an interview with the Official Charts Company and has revealed her favourite and least favourite song. No surprise for least!
https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/sophie-ellis-bextor-interview-fancy-dress-is-a-challenge-i-take-very-seriously__31651/
It's now finally showing on Spotify as an album rather than a collection...
Errr... But it IS a collection!
Debuts at 62 here in Ireland this week.
#8 in the UK this week! Very glad she managed to stay top 10.
She did well
She did well
Good opening week, shame it didnt get the 10k but it came close and i think sophie will be happy with those sales.
So is it re-recordings of her old songs or just the originals?
Singles from her first two albums are blocked on Apple Music .
Her sales are fairly impressive for #8 close to 10k well done Sophie 👏
It did really well indeed. It's (almost) her best result in 13 years, and at a time where competition is tough, with an album of old songs, and relevance also not being by her side. Very well done!
58 in todays mids, hopefully its enough to stay top 75 for a 2nd week.
Let’s hope she announces a Christmas iamspamspamamidisco to keep interest going or something.
'Favourite Things' has been sent out to UK Radio this morning to be pushed as the next single.
Big promo slot confirmed: Sophie is performing 'Crying at the Discotheque' on the New Year's Eve edition of the Graham Norton Show. Usually get big ratings!
Might get bigger ratings than usual with more people not being out celebrating!
Christmas version of My Favourite Things available today!
The album and single have climbed back up the charts !!
She’s done a couple of recent live performances it seems, and that’s what’s getting it pushed up the charts! Would seriously love this to smash.
I caught the performance on Graham Norton last night and was pleasantly surprised! I had no idea she had this out.
Horrified to see the start of this thread with people never having heard Murder on the Dancefloor. Like HOW?! It and Groovejet were ubiquitous.
She was revealed on the first episode of The Masked Singer last week.
My favourite things is the best of the covers from the new tracks. Sophie does an amazing job on the vocals.
Good to see the album and single picking up some extra sales, she had a great performance on Graham Norton.
Just caught up on her recent performances - both fantastic, 'Crying at the Discotheque' feels like its her own and I don't think I'll ever tire of hearing 'Murder on the Dancefloor'.
I was very happy to see Sophie in the iTunes Top 10 on both songs and albums, I suspected Graham Norton would have a big effect but it's still wonderful to see the proof.
I know it doesn't mean much but 'Crying at the Discotheque' had a decent sales chart run and should achieve a new peak this week:
35-84-81-36-31-35-25-40-57-81-X
The album is #19 on the midweeks!
Yay !!!
Most downloaded album of the week so far!
Good to see it so high, i know sales are really low but its working to her advantage.
Kylie has sold just over 1k at number 35 so sophie might be close enough to getting 2k for the week.
Yaaaay!
29 today, hopefully it can stay top 40 but even a top 50 return is good for the album.
I'm just grateful for whatever I can get, although a top 40 return would be incredible.
#41 today. Shame to see it drop so much, I suppose it was inevitable but I got excited for a solid Top 40 return after it first appeared at #19 earlier in the week.
I thought it would hang on in the top 40 and its a shame it hasnt but hopefully top 50 is safe, when the album fell out of the top 100 been honest i never thought it would return again so this is a bonus.
Another iamspamspamamidisco confirmed for the 22nd of January, curious I wonder how many Instagram followers she had this time last year.
Does anyone know the total sales? I know it sold 1,602 the week it re-entered at #54. Must be at least 20k?
Week-by-week sales:
26/11/20 08 9,809
03/12/20 82 1,742
10/12/20 156 1,193
17/12/20 169 1,156
24/12/20 OUT 1,000 (est) *
31/12/20 OUT 1,000 (est)
07/01/21 OUT 553
14/01/21 54 1,602 18,048
21/01/21 OUT
* The album appeared in the midweeks all week; on the Thursday update, it had sold 866 copies with 146 sold on the Wednesday. If it sold the same amount on the Thursday, it would have sold 1012 copies for the week. The #200 that week sold 1013 copies.
I'm guessing the album went back to 500-ish copies last week.
Thanks Liam
it looks like on Insta that she has recorded a video for the next single ?
Sales chart run: 7-40-75-79-98-88-79-10-58-91 {10 wks}
I guess with everything shutting down the physical sales have to, hence how she could chart at 10 last week on the sales chart and still end up at #54, while for the debut week her sales position and on the main chart seemed to align more (#7/#8).
Edit: updated with week 10.
Love that she covered I Follow Rivers last night!
Oh are the iamspamspamamidiscos back on with lockdown?
She did this during yesterday's kitchen disco and I feel like a bad fan as I've never heard it before, but I LOVE it.
I think this was my favourite iamspamspamamiDisco yet, I liked how club orientated it was.
Seriously, can we PLEASE remove "kitchen" from the word filter?
The original Groovejet is finally on streaming services
It's about tiiiime!
