It's time to pit together Buzzjack's most beloved battleaxes in a standard rate format to find out which of their singles we love or love to hate the most! Here's a reminder of the standard rules of the rate:
- Please rate each song a score between 0-10.
- .5 scores are allowed, just no 0.5 or 10.5's please!
- You also have the opportunity to give out one -1 for the song you dislike the most and one 11 for your absolute favourite song, this is across both artists' discographies and is not compulsory.
In addition to the rate, I will be working out the average score per artist for each poster to determine whether you are #TeamJess or #TeamAnneMarie - kinda like a star sign, something you can identify with and defend profusely even if you don't have much choice over the matter. Your team will be announced in the results thread too!
I have removed a couple features from each that literally had no impact in any chart and the big charity singles such as Times Like These and Bridge Over Troubled Water due to minimal contributions. Pls let me know if you do want to be rating these or any other singles I have missed.

Deadline: Thursday 9th July - 23:59 GMT (just over two weeks from today)
I'm ready for this. My scathing rate will be posted later.
What a great idea! Always been intrigued to see what would come out top here and what the overall averages are too.
I hope Jess wins or at least averages better throughout!
I need to listen to some of Anne Marie’s catalogue here but once I’ve done that I’ll be rating!
Remind me to do this!!!
Want to see appreciation for Rumour Mill
On the face of it I would hazard a guess that I'm #TeamAnneMarie . I think I prefer Jess' features but prefer Anne-Marie as a lead artist. Plus she also has Rockabye which is divine I also got to see Anne-Marie at a small venue at a festival just as Alarm was beginning to chart and she made a good impression on me back then!
Both have had some great and some bad, I’ll do this another day but on first look I feel as though Anne-Marie is getting both my 11 and my -1
Team Jess
I only know 3 Anne Marie songs.
I'd like to do this but I don't know all of the songs, and I'm not listening to Jess or Anne-Marie out of choice.
I honestly don't think I even know any of those Anne-Marie songs.. I stll don't really know who she is tbh. And since when did Jess have sooo many songs? I am so out of touch with all these current artists.
Anne>>>>>
I assume we're allowed to start rating yes?

00 is my mark for any song I haven’t heard because rim not invested enough to catch up. I had no idea Anne-Marie had released that much, is it her whole album? If the 00s are such a massive issue, I’ll change them but I didn’t feel like it was fair on Anne-Marie to mark songs I hadn’t heard higher than most of her discography.
These rates are SCATHING
Excel won't take blank scores into consideration for averages, so if you don't know a song, leaving it blank is the way not to skew results!

a much bigger fan of Anne in general but damn both have some bad songs. Anne has some of my fave bops from the past few years tho <3
and ofc in an iconic rate we need commentary *.*
Jess Glynne
07.5 Right Here -> a bop but icr the last time I even bothered to listen to it
09 Real Love (with Clean Bandit) -> their best collaboration
03.5 Hold My Hand -> I really really liked it when it came out, LOVED it in summer 2015, still stanned in 2016, and now if I hear it one more time on the radio or on a f***ING JET 2 ADVERT I will kill someone
04 Don't Be So Hard On Yourself -> meh
10 Take Me Home -> stunning, her best
06 Ain't Got Far To Go
06.5 I'll Be There -> it's not a good song but damn I bop to her yodelling
09 All I Am -> such a basic BOP
-1 Thursday -> heinous. horrible. torturous.
03 No One
00 One Touch (with Jax Jones) -> one of the most nondescript songs of the past few years
features:
07.5 Rather Be (with Clean Bandit) -> good but overrated
02 My Love (with Route 94) -> always been irritating af
05 Not Letting Go (with Tinie Tempah)
06 Kill The Lights (with Alex Newell, DJ Cassidy & Nile Rodgers) -> on first listen this is fine
09 These Days (with Rudimental, Macklemore & Dan Caplen) -> I used to not be massive on this but I've really been loving it the last few months aha
02 Mind On It (with Yungen)
01 So Real (Warriors) (with Too Many Zoos & KDA)
03.5 Love Me Again (with RAYE) -> her entry into the song GETS me every time. gimme the original, which still isn't that great
Anne-Marie
05 Karate
02 Gemini
10 Boy -> the song that got me into Anne and SUCH a bop
06 Do It Right
10 Alarm -> so close to my 11, such a great song <3
10 Ciao Adios -> what an anthem
04 Either Way (with Snakehips & Joey Bada$$)
06 Heavy
07 Then
11 Friends (with Marshmello) -> such a fun and fabulous bop, one of my most played songs of 2018 *.*
10 2002 -> adore this. v. close to my 11 as well
00 Perfect To Me -> deserves a -1, this is Thursday's sister
00 Rewrite the Stars (with James Arthur) -> deserves a -1 but Anne isn't as bad as James or Jess
10 Birthday -> banger
06 Her
features:
02 Rumour Mill (with Rudimental & Will Heard)
07 Alright With Me (with Wretch 32 & PRGRSHN)
10 Catch 22 (with Illy) -> this came on shuffle the other week and I forgot just how good this was

05.5 Let Me Live (with Rudimental, Major Lazer & Mr. Eazi)
08 Don't Leave Me Alone (with David Guetta)
07 f**k i'm lonely (with Lauv)
My averages:
Ginger Witch: 4.92
Anne Marie: 6.54
My top 12 songs combined:
1) Friends
2) 2002
3) Alarm
4) Ciao Adios
5) Take Me Home
6) Boy
7) Birthday
8) Catch 22
9) All I Am
10) Rockabye
11) Real Love
12) These Days
Anne-Marie has a fair few songs I really enjoy although also some which I'd happily never hear again. Jess's are mostly alright but only a few I'd choose to listen too. Overall the Clean Bandit collabs stand out as both of their bests.

Much prefer Anne Marie overall. I know some of her stuff can be quite basic, but she does have a great voice that doesn't grate like Jess' voice does. I would say Jess probably has the higher highs just from her early collab stuff though. After 2014 it went to shit.

Honestly all of those 1s and 2s I gave to Anne-Marie could easily be 0s as well, they are all easily among the most irritating chart hits of the last few years, but I try not to be too hyperbolic with my ratings.
I will do this but there's like 9 songs I've never heard and I need to be in the right frame of mind to be able to sit through all of them x

Anne-Marie wins, but Jess gets the 11!
Jessie J >>>>> both these and NO I'm not apologising
Jessie J is legit one of the most talented singers of our generation and that deserves to be said more outside of her own head
Jessie J can sing, but chooses to over sing and that’s the reason I find her completely intolerable
Do you know who else is shit? Rita Ora.
nothing extraordinary here, Jess is the less bad for sure.
None have released anything extraordinary solo
and both have one great track each which is in both cases the collab with Clean Bandit
but at least Jess has no offensive tracks
while Anne Marie had a stint of like 6 somngs in a row that were all diabolical: Friends-2002-Perfect to Me-Rewrite the stars-F** I'm Lonely-Birthday
that's 6 songs in a row which all deserve a -1 some of the most cringey lyrics in the history of music

Jess is generally okay, there’s some bops there but mostly just average-decent songs. Anne-Marie has a tendency to release either certified 10/10 bangers or absolute garbage and very little in between

I genuinely like Jess tbh! She’s undeserving of the shade she gets on here and she’s pretty consistent for me! She makes good pop and dance music and she’s kinda aware of who she is as an artist too.

Anne Marie is kinda not as consistent as Jess. She has some bad songs. She does have some personality but her material kinda goes over me. Jess works better with collaborations too. I’m proud to say I’m Team Jess here!

First set of songs to arrive shortly!
Knew I would be team Anne-Marie. Intrigued to see which songs come last .
Whilst Anne-Marie has a couple of duds, at least she has shown some creativity throughout her career. Something Jess is incapable of.
#42 - Anne-Marie 'Perfect To Me' (Avg. 2.483)
High Scores: (9 - Joseph Styles, 8.5 - MrAndrewMan)
Low Scores: ( -1 - Klumzee, Liam, Dan-G, LL Jord 7)
First to go and my pick of -1 material. Here comes Anne-Marie with a self-empowerment anthem about imperfection being the new perfection. It came after a flurry of hits with similar themes from other artists, however what sets this apart from the others is the rather questionable lyrics. They are way too ‘on the nose’ and are just horrendous beyond belief. Such lyrical delights include: ‘Getting too close for comfort, but comfort is what I need. So I eat my body weight in chocolate and ice cream’ and ‘Sometimes I wake up late and don't even brush my teeth. Just wanna stuff my face with leftover mac and cheese’, and my personal favourite, ‘I wish my legs were bigger, bigger than New York city’ honestly if you’re unfamiliar with the lyrics please give them a read as they are some of the worst ever in my opinion! The beat and melody are fairly inoffensive however this can be seen as the new offensive these days. Luckily the UK public didn’t take to this either and it stalled at #41. Those of you who scored this well, please let me know why you like this as I am really struggling!
#41 - James Arthur & Anne-Marie 'Rewrite The Stars' (Avg. 2.609)
High Scores: (8.5 - Riser, 8 - Chapman)
Low Scores: ( -1 - divathinmuffin, Calum)
Featuring not one but two of Buzzjack’s favourite artists. It’s James Arthur and Anne-Marie with Rewrite the Stars. I’m surprised this one did so badly as it’s just a straight cover that featured on the Greatest Showman: Reimagined Soundtrack (which also happened to feature Jess on ‘Come Alive’ with Years & Years). It’s a song about the male character trying to convince the female that they can change their destiny and fall in love by ‘rewriting the stars’. It’s a bit of lovey-dovey cheese that fits in perfectly with the rest of the soundtrack. It managed to chart at #7 in the UK, however the original which peaked at #16 has actually sold more which I did not realise.
Perfect to Me is absolutely not that bad, the lyrics aren't always great but it's such a gorgeous sentiment!
Rewrite the Stars isn't essential at all, not gutted to see it out even if I quite like it.
Never say I’m team Jess Glynne
Thank god, awful first two out
Glad to be on Team Anne-Marie
However goodbye to those two songs, by far her two career lowlights. Perfect To Me is Thursday's ugly sister and their version of Rewrite The Stars is horrific, the original remains fantastic but Anne and in particular James are awful on it
Surely this is probably the lowest bottom two scores on a rate?
I actually do really like Perfect to Me! Rewrite the Stars not so much, but I wouldn't say I dislike it.
#40 - Anne-Marie 'Birthday' (Avg. 3.937)
High Scores: (10 - UltraBeKind 9.5 - JosephStyles)
Low Scores: ( -1 - T-Boy, Bre, Dexton)
One of the most recent singles to appear, it’s Anne-Marie’s 2020 take on the celebration of birthdays in musical form. According to Genius ‘Anne-Marie didn’t think there were enough Birthday songs, so she made her own’ – even her producers weren’t into it. ‘When it’s your birthday, you think, ‘’I can literally do what I want because it’s my birthday, everyone has to do what I want’’. All that commentary is slightly ominous for what is to come, however she does kinda make it work. Yes its obnoxious, yes it’s bratty, but when is a better time to feel your oats than your birthday? The production also takes on some modern trap production sounds, with yelps, crashes, bangs and wallops included which kinda helps it sound like a song that could go viral on Tik Tok. All in all, I shouldn’t like this, but it kinda bops a bit.
#39 - Jess Glynne 'Thursday' (Avg. 4.171)
High Scores: (10 - LL Jord 7, 9 - JosephStyles)
Low Scores: ( -1 - UltraBeKind, Scene)
Now for the first of Jess’ entries and it's her take on self-empowerment. This time it’s an Ed Sheeran co-write! This one is the better of the two in my opinion as it’s a bit more pleasing melodically and doesn’t have the WTF lyrics of ‘Perfect to Me’. This does not stop the cringe unfortunately. I think I may have rated this a bit harshly now (I gave it a 0), but the self-empowerment theme is not for me and it was absolutely EVERYWHERE when it was released so it wasn’t hard to grow sick of it. You can’t convince me that Thursday is not an odd choice of song title though and there are plenty of alternative titles that would’ve worked better!
All I’m seeing is awful songs and
Highest scorer: joseph
Birthday's OTT hate was pretty laughable in the chart thread each week :') not a shock but again, deserved way better
Thursday the lowest Jess song.... this rate is awful, that was the best song of her 2nd era x
I can understand why Birthday is near the bottom. It's cute but nowhere near her best for me. Again, I wouldn't say I dislike it though.
Thursday on the other hand, how did it end up being the lowest Jess song? I agree that it's the best from her 2nd era and I really like it (I probably should have scored it a bit higher as I much prefer it to Perfect to Me).
Anne Marie spends the whole of Birthday singing like she’s taking a 3 minute shit.
#38 - Anne-Marie 'Gemini' (Avg. 4.203)
High Scores: (10 - George.keh 8 - Jack)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy, Scene)
The first non-chart hit, it’s Gemini. It does have a more amateur sound than the rest of her material being quite sparse in production and it’s not surprising this didn’t do so well. It shows off her voice well and was a nice inclusion on her first EP but I’m glad she’s upped the quality (arguably) of her material.
#37 - Yungen feat. Jess Glynne 'Mind On It' (Avg. 4.366)
High Scores: (9.5 - Riser, 8 - Leww)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy, Scene)
A flash-in-the-pan moment for Yungen and Jess Glynne, off the back of his hit single ‘Bestie’. This was expected to do big things, however this sounds very auto-pilot for both artists. Jess features on the chorus and middle 8, but sounds quite bored throughout it, we know Jess can use her voice better on songs like Hold My Hand and Take Me Home. For me it’s a weaker version of Not Letting Go and the song title is not said once during the song, a title such as ‘On My Mind’ or ‘I Got It On My Mind’ would’ve done the job much better imo.
#36 - Too Many Zooz vs. KDA feat. Jess Glynne 'So Real (Warriors)' (Avg. 4.466)
High Scores: (9 - Riser 8 - George.keh)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy, Calum, Jack)
Another Jess track that never really took off. This was originally an instrumental track that I believe had been around at least a year before they put Jess’ vocals on top. This is a quirky brass section dance track but the Jess’ lyrics don’t mean much at all unfortunately. I am surprised this wasn’t a hit though as we have seen similar sounding songs do well but I guess the chorus doesn’t really pop off like it could have? I’d imagine this would sound great in the sun so perhaps this is the hit that never was?
#35 - David Guetta feat. Anne-Marie 'Don't Leave Me Alone' (Avg. 4.629)
High Scores: (9 - George.keh, JosephStyles 8.5 - MrAndrewMan)
Low Scores: ( -1 - Tawdry Hepburn)
The first song I’m surprised is this low, the later voters helped it drop down this low. I can see where some of the hate for this comes from, it is very generic future bass offering and both artists can do much better. However it is still well-produced and well-written (thanks Noonie Bao) and sounds fit for summer to me. This reached #18 in the UK charts and managed 9 weeks in the top 40 before hitting ACR.
big fan of both Gemini and Don’t Leave Me Alone so shame to see them this low- the rest are all absolute dumpster fires good riddance to every single one- B*rthday in particular. 2002 to leave us soon too please
Don't Leave Me Alone
Gemini and Mind On It are by far Jess and AM's worst songs for me. I wouldn't listen to either out of choice.
Not really a fan of So Real (Warriors) either but I really like Don't Leave Me Alone!
All these AWFUL Anne-Marie songs, gawd. Why didn't she just release 'Trigger' instead of 'Perfect To Me'? 'Don't Leave Me Alone' genuinely encompasses everything I hate about music in one song.
'Thursday' is really corny and cliched, but it kinda clicked when I saw her perform it at the Brits last year.
Poor brave Birthday !!! And Warriors isn't that bad guys! Can't really argue with the rest though!
Thursday being Jess’s lowest song is kinda sad to see but with the Ed involvement I did expect it to be low.
Perfect To Me being first out by both though is kinda deserved. It really is bad. For a time I was totally convinced it was gonna be massive as well at least that didn’t happen!
Come through and win this Jess
#34 - lauv feat. Anne-Marie 'F**k I'm Lonely' (Avg. 4.671)
High Scores: (10 - Calum, 9 - Frenchie, JosephStyles)
Low Scores: ( 0 - Tawdry Hepburn, T-Boy, Bjork, Leww)
So apparently the initial inspiration for this song was Lauv getting ghosted by his favourite sandwich shop for a chicken parmie. It did evolve to become about a girl who he’s broken up with who he knows he shouldn’t hit up but he can’t help it when he’s lonely. On her guest verse, Anne-Marie acts as the voice on the other end of Lauv’s ramblings saying that she also shouldn’t and how she should have listened to her girls. The song acts as a release for those thoughts that you know you shouldn’t have, but sometimes you can’t help but feel. I’m not particularly a fan of the gratutitous swearing as the hook but I guess it’s a chill bop that’s well made and Anne-Marie and her sound fit in well with this song.
#33 - Jess Glynne 'No One' (Avg. 4.725)
High Scores: (8 - T-Boy, MrAndrewMan, Riser, 7.5 - JosephStyles)
Low Scores: ( 0 - Klumzee, Jack)
The Jess post-album release that no one but Heart.fm seems to remember yet they have it on rotation like it was a top three hit :’). This handclapping footstomping anthem is about being ‘no one until you’re somebody to someone’. This is prime example of a Jess song that is so generic by attempting to encapsulate an emotion that everyone may feel without putting any of her own experiences into it. The lyrics could relate to anybody about any person they’ve ever encountered and feels like a cheap attempt to get a hit song. This is why I struggle to see who Jess is as an artist as it does feel soulless and that any artist could have released this. It’s also quite Radio 2 MOR for Jess in sound which might explain why it didn’t do much in the charts.
Question - were all the 0s counted when people said they didn't know the songs?
fuck, i'm lonely is really good, and No One is one of Jess' better songs! That should've been a bigger hit for sure.
No One isn’t bad as a song but that acting at the start of the video is bad!
No-one is extremely forgettable and f**k I’m Lonely is so so so bland, happy they’re out. Just hoping for Kill The Lights to stay in as long as possible
#32 - Anne-Marie 'Her' (Avg. 4.741)
High Scores: (9 - Leww, 8.5 - MrAndrewMan)
Low Scores: ( 0 - Lee Wallace, Scene)
Anne-Marie’s most recent single release, another track to celebrate a specific day, this time Mother’s Day! This is a heart-felt piano ballad tribute to her own Mother and it is really well done! The lyrics have avoided some of the cringe we’ve previously experienced from Anne-Marie and it has turned out to be a mature effort from her. I think this is a hit in the making, it’s only an X Factor audition away from blowing up. Also my favourite ballad from either artist.
#31 - Wretch 32 feat. Anne-Marie & PRGSHN 'Alright With Me' (Avg. 4.9)
High Scores: (9 - George.keh 8.5 - Riser)
Low Scores: ( 0 - Lee Wallace)
One of Anne-Marie’s first features! Not a particularly memorable one to be honest, I think Wretch 32 is the highlight of this track than Anne-Marie, this was released in 2015 which was past Wretch 32’s peak and before Anne-Marie took off so neither artist was particularly a big name to draw people in. I think this could’ve been a cute top 20 at the right time as it’s very radio friendly and pop-leaning however this has been forgotten by nearly everybody these days.
#30 - Anne-Marie 'Heavy' (Avg. 4.983)
High Scores: (9 - George.keh 8.5 - JosephStyles, Josh!, Calum)
Low Scores: ( 0 - Lee Wallace, Dexton)
This was a bit of a blip in Anne-Marie’s success, only reaching #37 between the two big hitters Ciao Adios and Friends. I think this is a nice tropical bop but it doesn’t pack much of a punch to compete in the UK charts. I’m surprised it got as many low scores as it did as it is so inoffensive in my opinion.
Heavy might have benefitted by having someone who could sing well singing it.
And let’s face it, if I actually listened to most of those 00s chances are they’d still be 00s.
Me giving these last three songs 0 points and being the lowest scorer. I see no flaws in my scoring
Troll rates (giving 0's when you don't even know the song) aren't usually counted, are they? I chose not to rate in the end, too many new songs I didn't have the stomach to listen to Of the results so far Birthday and Don't Leave Me Alone deserve better!! The James Hype remix of Birthday is in her top 3 songs tbh
All my zeros were legit.
If I could give more -1’s I would.
No-One and f*** I'm Lonely are DRIVEL.
Had to LOL at me giving "Her" the highest score - I was obviously gagging for a half-decent song.
#29 - Illy feat. Anne-Marie 'Catch 22' (Avg. 5.0)
High Scores: (10 - UltraBeKind, Dexton, 8 - Liam, MrAndrewMan)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy)
Time for our most random collaboration. Catch 22 is a track by Australian rapper Illy which features Anne-Marie. It was pretty successful in Australia, reaching #11 and becoming one of Illy’s best selling singles. You may know his most successful one ‘Papercuts’ featuring Vera Blue. I thought this would be a phoned-in feature but she also features in the music video alongside Illy so I’m glad she enjoyed her Australian holiday. Good of her to put in the groundwork in other countries as I’m sure that’s helped her career boost in more recent years. It’s a very ‘Australian’ sounding song and is quite juvenile in sound so I’m not surprised it didn’t do anything in the UK but it’s done decently in this rate with an average of ‘5’ exactly. Also surprise surprise this is the first time Dexton appears as a high scorer
#28 - Anne-Marie 'Karate' (Avg. 5.071)
High Scores: (9 - Leww 8 - George.keh, Jack)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy, Lee Wallace)
The world’s introduction to Anne-Marie, this was also the first song of hers I heard as it was entered into the Buzzjack Song Contest by Thelonia, otherwise known as poster lewistgreen, and finished in 22nd place back in 2015. This sounds very different to other songs she has released with a darker instrumental, sound and vocal effects from arcade games and Japanese counting. It’s difficult to imagine the change of sound she would have since then. I’m hoping she will become a bit more experimental with her music as this was a really exciting debut back in the day. I think this struggled a bit due to not being known as well and therefore receiving some default lower scores as I’ve only heard good things from Buzzjack posters about this song and it does represent a different side to Anne-Marie that others may not know about. Fun fact Anne-Marie also is a black belt in karate having trained most of her childhood in the martial art!
The popularity of these results though
The impact
Don’t Leave Me Alone is possibly the most generic song I’ve ever heard
For me it just distorts the scores unnecessarily - of course it's not serious and this is just a bit of fun but it's a shame that scores like that could have actually changed some results! That's why if I didn't know a song, I'd leave it blank, or I'd actually listen to it - because you never know what discoveries you could make.
Karate was the first Anne-Marie song I heard! Would never have called that I'd become such a fan, as I quite like it but it's faaaaaar from her best (and musically very far from what she'd go on to release of course).
Yeah, it’s Jess Glynne and Anne Marie, there are really no ‘discoveries’ to make.
An extra 0 here and there won’t distort results, most of these songs wouldn’t have been much higher. I did say you could do what you want with my 0s so feel free to do a recount if this is actually that important to you.
Oops forgot about this - ‘Rather Be’, ‘Rockabye’ or ‘Rumour Mill’ to win
I probably wouldn't mind Anne-Marie as much if most of her discography sounded like 'Karate'. It's not that bad.
Jess Glynne legit does have some bops
Stop arguing and discuss Zara Larsson new song and soft porn video here

Klumzee didn’t want to turn T Boy away and be accused of discrimination
Right Here to slay too please- I will take NO slander for that bop at all
Joseph’s the biggest troll with these high averages though!
#27 - Anne-Marie '2002' (Avg. 5.265)
High Scores: (11 - Calum, 10 - Cameron, UltraBeKind, Frenchie, NickF1, MrAndrewMan)
Low Scores: ( -1 - George.keh, Bjork, Electroboy)
Time for our #marmeet hit as you can see by the number of names in the above lists, it is also the lowest song to receive an 11 and joint 2nd highest for number of -1s!
I thought this was dead-set for a bottom five place however this song has just as many fans as it does haters! It was absolutely everywhere in 2018 and did very well in the charts, so much so that it is certified double platinum in the UK (sold over 1.2 million units). It’s a song about recalling past nostalgia and going back to simpler times. It’s a very well-written and catchy song that has hooks galore, as you would expect from a songwriter team of 18 people including Ed Sheeran, Julia Michaels, Benny Blanco and Steve Mac. Despite the outrage of singing about songs that were not released in 2002 amongst the chart community, it at least does not mention any songs that were released in 2003 or later! I could not stand this in 2018 thanks to the overkill on the radio, however time is a healer and it is sounding good again in 2020 to these ears.
#26 - Jess Glynne 'Ain't Got Far To Go' (Avg. 5.375)
High Scores: (10 - T-Boy, George.keh, Klaus 8 - Nina West)
Low Scores: ( 0 - Jack)
We’ve not spoken about Jess for a while! The last single to be released from her debut album ‘I Cry When I Laugh’ this was the first of her singles to miss the top 10 and the top 40, only peaking at #45 and spending 6 weeks in the top 100. This is a little more soulful from Jess whilst still maintain a fun pop core. I’m surprised this didn’t even reach the top 40 as a post-album single as it’s still got a very chart friendly sound and is strong enough on its own. I seem to remember radio stations dropping this fairly quickly after it didn’t soar up the charts so perhaps that’s what its downfall was.
2002 getting those 10s and an 11 and none of them even from me *.*
ok that’s the first actual loss
Ain’t Got Far To Go is such a laidback bop!!
'2002' needs to be burned.
Ain’t Got Far To Go is brill in my eyes
2002 was my worst song from either artist glad it hasn’t made the top 25
an average of 5.4 tho?!??
get some bloody taste you weirdo man
'2002' is far too high but at least it's still bottom half. 'FRIENDS' to go ASAP as well pls xx
'Ain't Got Far To Go' is another one on a similar level to 'No One', it's fine, not an essential. x
I think "Karate" is way too low, although the novelty of that for me is that I knew it prior to her being a big deal so I liked it without any sort of judgement!
this is an injustice
I will catch up with the rest in a bit but that's all you're getting for tonight folks!
I'm so glad you've been such an ACTIVE audience and I shall continue with the top 25 tomorrow! Here's a reminder of the remaining songs to be revealed:
Alarm
All I Am
Boy
Ciao Adios
Do It Right
Don't Be So Hard On Yourself
Either Way
FRIENDS
Hold My Hand
I'll Be There
Kill The Lights
Let Me Live
Love Me Again
My Love
Not Letting Go
One Touch
Rather Be
Real Love
Remember I Told You
Right Here
Rockabye
Rumour Mill
Take Me Home
Then
These Days
It won't be a full reveal tomorrow - let's say I'll go up until the top 10 but it depends how much commentary I can be bothered to write
2002 isn’t like terrible bad but it still annoys me how the songs mentioned aren’t from that year.
Having said that I don't think Klumzee is a troll though...
'2002' a "well-written" song?? The writing is exactly what makes it awful!
Why is I’ll be there still there
Also thanks to this rate I've now listened to each one of these songs multiple times. I only have myself to blame...
Love me land
Was expecting 2002 to be lower than that.
Hope Ciao Adios or Then wins but I think that may be unlikely. 'Don't Be So Hard On Yourself' would be a worthy winner also.
I can’t see Let Me Live staying in too much longer
"Singing at the top of both our lungs" is her worst lyric ever
Hmmm I think that it will be an all Jess top 5 at this rate
I didn't vote in this as I didn't want to put myself though any more songs from these two than I had to, Jess Glynne has a narrowly better discography so I'd support her to win, although saying that, Rockabye might be my favourite one here. I guess Anne Marie should stick to features more x
Oops, wish I'd been following this earlier! I'm honored to be the statistically biggest Jess fan in this rate
shame to see 'Thursday' so low but at least we've got most of the bad Anne-Marie songs out of the way. 'Perfect To Me' is a very deserving last place.
Thursday is easily Jess Gynne's worst song, the lyrics are really bad... associating yourself with Ed Sheeran can easily result in that but it's a 2/10 song... so she easily beats Anne Marie who has at least 6 songs that are a 0/10 and could all be a -1: 2002, Perfect To Me, Frends, Birthday, Rewrite the Stars and f**k I'm lonely.
I'm hoping to restart the results from 5pm tonight which might be a lil early for some but I have some IRL plans forming for tonight! I'll aim to get all the way to #11 but it depends how quickly I can rattle through the posts All commentary is written it's just a matter of formatting each post.
Some of these results
Rewrite the Stars should have been dead last, and by a long way. Awful cover.
2002 deserved better
The funny thing is they have so many similarities career-wise
- first #1 a collaboration with Clean Bandit
- a song written with Ed Sheeran
- collab with Rudimental
- a feature on a Guetta track
- a self-love anthem (Perfect to Me, Thursday)
- a song in the Great Showman covers album.
#25 - RAYE feat. Jess Glynne 'Love Me Again' (Avg. 5.467)
High Scores: (7.5 - Calum, Riser 7 - Tawdry Hepburn, vibe, MrAndrewMan, LL Jord 7, Scene)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy)
Poor overlooked Raye. Not even 7 time chart topper Jess Glynne could make this a hit! The original is a great pop song with a brilliant melody where RAYE talks about trying to convince her ex to love her again. Jess contributes a guest verse on the single release where she acts as the supportive friend to RAYE and takes part in a call and respond bridge whilst singing and ad-libbing over the rest of the track. I tried to rate this based on Jess’ contribution which was tricky as she doesn’t add too much to the original imo, if anything I prefer the original bridge! This made it to #55 upon it’s original release in solo format but I’m sure the record label bosses were hoping for a bigger climb after the Jess remix. This also has a surprisingly low top score of 7.5, no song has got that low so far!
#24 - Anne-Marie 'Boy' (Avg. 5.5)
High Scores: (10 - UltraBeKind George.keh 9 - Jack)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy)
Another of Anne-Marie’s early releases which I was not familiar with when creating the rate. It does have the similar early sound that Karate and Gemini did with more minimal production, a kick-drum and hand clap make up most of this track. This one does have a bit of personality in the vocals which see Anne-Marie after a boy’s attention, but she’s wondering maybe he might be gay instead? I enjoy the fact the last chorus has a change in lyrics after she’s found out the truth. It’s a quirky chirpy track that’s quite a fun listen so I can see why it’s made it into the top 25. Again I think this struggled with many not knowing the track as I think it would be fairly popular with Buzzjack had it been a hit single.
Talk about a useless contribution from Jess on "Love Me Again"! "Boy" I can do without too.
#23 - Rudimental feat. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen 'These Days' (Avg. 5.656)
High Scores: (11 - Lee Wallace 9.5 - Dan-G)
Low Scores: ( -1 - smidsey101, JosephStyles)
Our second #marmeet track that just manages to out-do 2002 in the rate results. These Days was the comeback single for Rudimental back in early 2018 for their third album. This also features Macklemore and Dan Caplen alongside Jess Glynne to create an exciting supergroup you would not have predicted to work together. However this managed to end up very plain despite the names involved. It sounds like Rudimental’s attempt at what a Macklemore track would sound like with Jess vocals over the top but made so safe that no radio station would ever snub it. It’s very much a straight-forward pop song that could’ve been so much more in my opinion as all three artists (honestly Dan Caplen who?) have created far better tracks than this one in the past. This did manage to climb to #1 for a single week after 7 consecutive weeks at #2 behind Drake’s God Plan. Despite my feelings for it, this was a genuinely massive hit and it would’ve been a shame if this never made it to #1.
#22 - Alex Newell feat. Jess Glynne, DJ Cassidy & Nile Rodgers 'Kill The Lights' (Avg. 5.724)
High Scores: (10 - Nina West, George.keh, Davidson 8 - Cameron, Liam, Riser, Leww, Jack)
Low Scores: ( 0 - Lee Wallace)
Another jam-packed collaboration involving Jess Glynne. This was released back in 2016 but I only became familiar with it after a fantastic lip-sync to this song on the 12th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race which saw both queens saved from elimination thanks to their excellent performances. It’s a fun throwback disco song from Alex Newell that has some brilliant production sensibilities thanks to Nile Rodgers and DJ Cassidy. It’s quite different to the rest of Jess’ singles as it doesn’t sound like a chart hit but still sounds good! This was doing disco before the recent revival of the genre in 2020 so perhaps had this been released this year we could’ve seen another mega hit for Jess?
I've also included the lip-sync video as it is very good and even better than I remember it being watching it live a few months ago!
Love Me Again is gorgeous wtf lmao
#21 - Snakehips feat. Anne-Marie & Joey Bada$$ 'Either Way' (Avg. 5.793)
High Scores: (9 - divathinmuffin 8.5 - smidsey101, Riser)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy)
I’ve always had a soft spot for this song when Buzzjack hasn’t been so receptive of it, so seeing this reach the top half of the results is great all things considered! It’s a slow RnB/trap jam where Anne-Marie takes the more dominant role in pursuing a man but she’s good either way if things don’t work out. I don’t think Anne-Marie is necessarily the highlight of the track but she helps create the vibe so well and her vocals are smoother than ever. Snakehips do an excellent job on production and Joey Bada$$’s guest verse is short but sweet. Apparently this interpolates Imogen Heap’s Hide & Seek which I’m not too sure on where that is but maybe it’s my own ignorance and it’s super obvious?
#20 - Jax Jones & Jess Glynne 'One Touch' (Avg. 5.812)
High Scores: (9.5 - Riser 9 - Electroboy, Jack)
Low Scores: ( 0 - UltraBeKind)
This also reminds me of ‘No One’ in that this is a generic cash cow attempt at appealing to everyone, this is made slightly better with the Jax Jones production but it does feel very much a Jess song rather than one of his own. The lyrics talk about that person whose touch you can’t live without and how life is so tough when they’re not around. This could’ve been a massive UK hit with two of the biggest names in popular chart music currently, however there isn’t much to love about it or even remember it for and it stalled at #19 in the UK charts.
Genuinely don't get the hate for "These Days" Sure it's not the BEST but it's perfectly fine in what it tries to do.
"Kill The Lights" is a bop but it owes none of that to Jess :')
Snakehips being lower than "One Touch" is a bit off!
#19 - Rudimenal & Major Lazer feat. Anne-Marie & Mr. Eazi 'Let Me Live' (Avg. 5.833)
High Scores: (11 - NickF1 9 - Riser, Jack)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy, Lee Wallace)
Now for the second Rudimental collab between the girls. It is a joint production between Rudimental and Major Lazer which is certainly evident in its sound and also features vocals from Mr. Eazi. To me this has all the hallmarks of the artist’s previous successful songs and I’m very surprised this didn’t make it to the top 40! Perhaps the public were a little worn about by the Major Lazer sound by the time this was released in 2018? It’s a song tailored for summer listening with maximal production and horns galore. My only thought is that there’s not much of a chorus ‘leave me alone, let me live my life’ is all there really is to it so perhaps it’s not the most memorable of any artists tracks? One of my personal favourites from either Anne-Marie or Jess and I’m not sure what I was thinking when only giving this a 7! Also Lee give this a listen I guarantee you'll like it and rate it more than a 0!
#18 - Jess Glynne 'All I Am' (Avg. 5.859)
High Scores: (10 - T-Boy, Dan-G 9 - UltraBeKind, Josh!, Riser)
Low Scores: ( -1 - Jack)
Unfortunately this song is the epitome of what frustrates me about Jess Glynne, there’s nothing about ‘All I Am’ that excites me or makes me feel any sort of emotion good or bad. Of course it sounds perfect for the radio with a nice sing-a-long chorus and slinky production to make an earworm of a song for a wide range of listeners but it’s such so generic that it doesn’t really mean much at all to anyone. ‘Cause all I know and all I am is you’ ? I am confusion. I think this is why Jess has struggled to grow a fanbase when there’s not much about her to get behind in my opinion. Fun fact this was co-written by James Newman, the UK’s Eurovision entrant for 2020!
#17 - Nick Jonas, Anne-Marie & Mike Posner 'Remember I Told You' (Avg. 6.051)
High Scores: (10 - Calum 9 - Cameron, Frenchie, Scene)
Low Scores: ( 0 - Lee Wallace)
Now into the 6's (finally!) and this is a surprise! I had no idea what this song was before I did the rate and I’m surprised this is the one that’s managed to out-do all the non-chart hits. I would say that it managed to avoid getting the low scores due to being reasonably unknown, but it’s also got a fair good fans who gave it highly favourable scores so perhaps I just need to familiarise myself with this to get on board with it? It’s a collab with Nick Jonas and Mike Posner that sounds well suited to the charts these days and would do well on streaming. I’m guessing it was released too late in the album campaign to have an impact? It’s another smooth offering from Anne-Marie and her voice compliments Nick Jonas’ very well! Perhaps this is her calling rather than some of her latest ‘gifts’ we’ve received?
#16 - Anne-Marie 'Then' (Avg. 6.064)
High Scores: (11 - George.keh, MrAndrewMan 9 - Frenchie, Davidson, JosephStyles, Klaus)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy)
Ballad time for Anne-Marie, we haven’t slowed down the pace quite as much as Jess does but we still get into our feelings on ‘Then’. She sings about the significance of a previous relationship and how the times were so good back then. It’s a interesting topic to talk about as we’re often encouraged to completely cut off ex’s or to make them into something so problematic that we can’t believe that it ever happened, when in reality our feelings are usually more ambiguous. It was a pleasant surprise when this was released as Anne-Marie was starting to take off with her fun and thoughtless songs, whereas this offered something different. Buzzjack has always been a fan of this so I’m not surprised this has done well in the rate and even managed to pull a couple of 11’s!
#15 - Anne-Marie 'Do It Right' (Avg. 6.103)
High Scores: (10 - George.keh, Dexton 9 - Davidson, Liam)
Low Scores: ( 0 - T-Boy)
Now for the last of Anne-Marie’s singles before she started to hit it big. I see this as the song that bridges early Anne-Marie with the Anne-Marie we know now. This song packs more of a punch than her previous material and I think this did get a bit of airplay on Radio 1 as I was quite familiar with this even back in 2015/16. Anne-Marie talks about the stage between lust and love and thoughts about commiting to a relationship rather than the highs that a casual fling brings.
These Days too low All I Am far too high x
Remember I Told You is a bop
"0 - T-Boy" appearing in almost every result - legit what's the point? :')
Then is gorgeous!! The emotion when she performs it live
All I Am is just all of Jess’ songs combined into one. It sounds exactly like you would expect a Jess Glynne song to sound, there’s nothing exciting about it.
Remember I Told You and Then are underrated bops!
That Nick Jonas song gave me Casio demos for my nerve!
All okay-ish there apart from All I Am.
'Do It Right' is so low That should be top 10 in this rate tbh.
'These Days' and 'Remember I Told You' are bops. The former is over played, but agreed with Lew in that it's cute at what it tries to be.
Pulling for a Rather Be win! But I wouldn't mind 'Rockabye' winning either
#14 - Jess Glynne 'Hold My Hand' (Avg. 6.125)
High Scores: (10 - Nina West, T-Boy, Chapman, Dan-G 9 - divathinmuffin, Tawdry Hepburn, George.keh, Bre, Klaus, vibe, Riser)
Low Scores: (-1 - Cameron)
If you don’t know this song, please come out from under your rock! The musical embodiment of Jet2 for God knows how long, this was Jess’ very first solo #1 song. It’s not difficult to see why this did so well. This has a universal euphoric sound which fits perfectly with the lyrical content. The dance piano chords made this perfect for summer, perfect for dancing and literally any occasion, and this song took good advantage of that! I’m sure this would’ve been a top 5 on the rate were it not for its horrific overplay by corporations using it to advertise or push the idea of forced happiness and fun, this is all we can associate this song with anymore! Some of you were completely broken and have given it your -1s, others are still holding strong and giving this some very high marks. But one’s thing for sure, we all have an opinion on this song
#13 - Jess Glynne 'I'll Be There' (Avg. 6.171)
High Scores: (10 - Calum 9 - divathinmuffin, T-Boy, Liam, vibe)
Low Scores: ( -1 - Lee Wallace, Jonjo)
Please welcome to the stage, Jess Goat! The real G.O.A.T. Jess attempts a cheeky little yodel in the chorus of this song, a trend that has not caught on unfortunately. This is another of the marmite songs in her discography, if it weren’t for a couple -1s and the odd 0, this would have been well into the top 10 as the majority of Buzzjack favoured this song. This is her most surprising of her #1’s for me. I believe it snuck in there for 1 week on a low sales week so her most ‘non-#1’ if you will. The song was still pretty successful in the charts regardless of its peak and did exactly what it needed to do to help Jess continue to have success in her second album era.
Also can we appreciate that T-Boy appears in both of the high scores in this post
I didn't mind Hold My Hand at the time but the Jet2 overplay has made me never want to hear it again x
I'll Be There.... I'll pass on that one x
Honestly HMH would be SO much more preferable had it just been a hit and long forgotten about. The Jet2 exposure is horrendous and really hurts it's quality, for me.
IBT is vile. I hate that it's catchy and worms its way into my head, but it's so bad!
Bitter Anne Marie fans taking things out on me still, I see (I also have Jess some 00s)
I’m legit not the only one who voted the way I did and I’m starting to get fed up with the passive aggressive singling our I seem to be getting.
I’ll Be There is hooky as shit, I’m surprised it didn’t get to #1 more easily if you get what I mean!
Yeh, I really liked Hold My Hand but I dread to listen to it again due to Jet2!
#12 - Tinie Tempah feat. Jess Glynne 'Not Letting Go' (Avg. 6.562)
High Scores: (10 - Frenchie, George.keh, Josh!, Leww 9 - vibe, Jack)
Low Scores: (0 - Scene)
Another of Jess’ #1s this time with Tinie Tempah. This screamed smash hit even on first listen and it sure did become a #1 on its debut week. I think this was one of the last held-back songs to reach #1 so I’m not sure this would have done it these days as it sounds a bit dated already, it suits the sound of the early 10’s much better than the late 10’s. Jess’ contribution only sticks to the chorus, but it’s so catchy and flows very well that it’s difficult to imagine the track with anyone else. It was by this point we were starting to realise how much of a chart behemoth that she was becoming, this was her 4th #1 out of 6 charting songs to date and both of those were top 10 hits too.
#11 - Marshmello & Anne-Marie 'FRIENDS' (Avg. 6.564)
High Scores: (11 - UltraBeKind 10 - JosephStyles, Josh!, Scene)
Low Scores: ( 0 - Bjork)
Just missing out on the top 10 is Anne-Marie’s guide on how to losing a spelling bee contest, it’s F R I N D S! I’m honestly surprised how well this did considering how much vocal hate this receives across the site, perhaps it is the same people running their mouth over and over? Like 2002 this song has improved over time since its major overkill in 2018 and I can recognise it’s a proper earworm these days. This managed a #4 peak and stuck between #4-6 for 8 consecutive weeks which I’m sure wound up our chart forum greatly. I hadn’t considered this before but now I’ve listened to Anne-Marie’s discography extensively (thanks!) I think this is the perfect balance between Anne-Marie’s early sound and current sound. The delivery is punchy, filled with swagger and she demands your attention on the track, this is paired with the pop sensibilities of Marshmello who has turned the track into a future bass offering with trap beats and strummed guitar chords. This commentary was much more positive than I was expecting it to be!!!
Not Letting Go is soooo bland. Tinie is capable of way better!
FRIENDS a song I loved from first listen and still adore! Deserved top 10 for sure.
There we have it all caught up to the top 10! I shall continue with all the remaining songs tomorrow evening so please stay tuned until then to find out Buzzjack's favourite Jess Glynne or Anne-Marie song! Here's a reminder of all the songs that are still to be announced:
Alarm
Ciao Adios
Don't Be So Hard On Yourself
My Love (with Route 94)
Rather Be (with Clean Bandit)
Real Love (with Clean Bandit)
Right Here
Rockabye (with Clean Bandit & Sean Paul)
Rumour Mill (with Rudimental & Will Heard)
Take Me Home
Please get predicting! Who you think has only just scraped in and who's going to be contending for the top 5 or the victory?? I'll post a time to get things started at some point tomorrow but 7pm tomorrow evening is what I'm envisaging.
Not Letting Go
Not aged well but I loved it that Summer it was released!! LOVING this results thread, finding it really interesting.
Hopefully Alarm can win, that's my absolute fave.
Take Me Home top 10 *.*
I also love 'Hold My Hand' but struggle to get genuine enjoyment from it anymore due to the overplay.
'All I Am' is ghastly, and I can't forgive what they did to Kings of Tomorrow's 'Finally' on it.
WANT:
Rather Be (with Clean Bandit)
Rockabye (with Clean Bandit & Sean Paul)
Ciao Adios
Don't Be So Hard On Yourself
Take Me Home
Alarm
Right Here
Real Love (with Clean Bandit)
Rumour Mill (with Rudimental & Will Heard)
My Love (with Route 94)
The bottom 3 to leave ASAP would be ideal and then we'd have a strong top 7!
PREDICT:
Rockabye (with Clean Bandit & Sean Paul)
Rather Be (with Clean Bandit)
Don't Be So Hard On Yourself
My Love (with Route 94)
Real Love (with Clean Bandit)
Ciao Adios
Right Here
Take Me Home
Alarm
Rumour Mill (with Rudimental & Will Heard)
---
Also... LOVING this thread. Thank you Patrick
Jess vs Anne Marie yet the winners will likely be Clean Bandit
surprised Hold my Hand is not top 10, easily her bet solo single
looking at whats left, Rockabye and Rather Be are the best by miles
Completely agree with Jonjo's bottom three!
I'd be happy with any of: Alarm, Ciao Adios, Rather Be, Rockabye or Don't Be So Hard on Yourself to win but I'd obviously prefer it to be an Anne-Marie track.
Really like "No Letting Go" The XYconstant remix in particular is wonderful!
Then, Kill The Lights and Love Me Again are all absolutely FAB!!! The lipsync is actually the Jess Glynne-less version but still amazing
Not Letting Go sounds perfect for the summer, although I always found it a bit dated at the time! I don’t like how it feels very rigid in chorus - verse - chorus ie they don’t really blend with each other. I do really like it though!
FRIENDS is one I probably shouldn’t like but it sounds great to me!
Rumour Mill Top 10, we stan!
Songs like 'Hold My Hand' and especially 'All I Am' definitely do lack much in the way of personality, I get that criticism, but I still think that they are very good for the straightforward radio filler pop songs they are (HMH moreso, it's a shame that the endless corporate shilling of that song has lowered its popularity on here so much over the years, I still consider it one of her best songs, it finishing below 'I'll Be There' and 'Not Letting Go' here is pretty shocking!) 'These Days' on the other hand just took that overly safe and bland sound one step too far for me - I don't know if I'd have such great disdain for it if not for it being such an inexplicably massive hit but I'm pretty sure I remember finding it pretty exceptionally bland even when I first heard it. Glad that one missed the top half as well. 'Love Me Again' (the original version) I never remotely understood the love for on here, I think the Jess version improved it very slightly but it was still just sort of ok at best. Sticking up for Anne-Marie again I think 'Then' is also a little underrated here - I wish a song like that or 'Her' could actually become a hit for her if we have to put up with her at all. x
With 'FRIENDS' thankfully just missing the cut (should be way, way lower but ah well xx), I like all but one of the top 10 songs - 'Ciao Adios' is another one of Anne's worst moments for me but I'm aware that's less of a popular opinion than all of my other Anne lowlights so not surprised to see it so high up, it'll probably be top 5 even. Agreeing that it'll most likely be an all Clean Bandit top 2 but fingers crossed for 'Don't Be So Hard On Yourself' to hopefully be the highest non-feature.
I still think Hold My Hand's great - curse you Jet2 for forever associating yourself with it and ruining it for everyone else All I Am and These Days deserved better too.
I only know of Jet2 through the constant mentions of HMH being spammed by them. I've been on a dozen holidays over the past 10 years and honestly have never registered their existence!
'Do It Right' was my favorite Anne-Marie discovery in this rate, out of the songs I hadn't heard! I'm glad it did well here.
That's an impressive top 10, surprised but pleased to see 'Take Me Home' and 'Rumour Mill' in there!
Thank you for all the comments and participation so far guys! Definitely has made the work involved for the rate worth it and it's been fun to interact with all of youse! I'm going to push this back to start at 8pm tonight instead. Be there or be square
'Karate', 'Alarm' & 'Rockabye' are literally the only songs by Anne-Marie that would be rated high had I rated. 'Trigger' is also quite decent but I think Jess just edge it with me as I like a couple more of hers compared to the number of Anne-Marie tracks.
Having said that Jess hasn't really put out anything properly good since 'Take Me Home'
That's an considerably solid top 10 though.. either of 'Rockabye' or 'Rather Be' to win and 'Alarm' ideally third!
Whilst your eagerly awaiting tonight's results, please enjoy this interlude of quen Anne-Marie teaching us some British slang
#10 - Rudimental feat. Anne-Marie & Will Heard 'Rumour Mill' (Avg. 6.703)

Ohmygah how did this make it to the top ten?? This snuck in very last minute thanks to Scene’s vote on deadline day. One of my personal favourites (only topped by Rather Be and Rockabye imo) and an underrated gem in both Rudimental and Anne-Marie’s discographies but I’m so glad Buzzjack saw some sense to rate this well! This is a chill mid-tempo bop where Anne-Marie and Will Heard dispel all the gossipers and vouch to carry on despite what the rumour mill says. The production takes on a deep-house sound but manages to stay so relaxed and keeps those classic Rudimental trumpets as well as pitched vocals. Anne-Marie and Will Heard’s voices blend together perfectly in this duet for a sleek well-made offering that screams drinks at dusk mood. I adore the way it builds throughout without ever fully going for it, always leaving you wanting more! This never made the top 40 in the UK charts yet it has managed to stay remembered and relevant.
#9 - Jess Glynne 'Take Me Home' (Avg. 7.093)
High Scores: (10 - Cameron, UltraBeKind, Calum 9 - Chapman, JosephStyles, LL Jord 7)
Low Scores: (2.5 - smidsey101)
This is Buzzjack’s favourite Jess or Anne-Marie ballad! I’m personally not too big a fan of this as it feels quite manufactured into being ‘the winter ballad moment’ of her discography to show she’s a ‘well-rounded pop star’ but it’s a pleasant listen at least! This is also the first song to not receive a 0 and we had to wait all the way up until 9th place to get that LOL. This was released as the 2015 Children In Need charity single which would’ve helped boost its sales and chart position thanks to the extra promotion it receives on the show’s broadcast. I do appreciate that Jess’ vocals sound better than ever here and that she delivers the song with passion, both belting and softly singing to show the light and dark in the song.
#8 - Jess Glynne 'Right Here' (Avg. 7.25)
High Scores: (10 - Nina West, George.keh, Electroboy, Josh!, Scene 9 - Davidson, Dan-G, Dexton)
Low Scores: (0 - Lee Wallace)
Jess’ debut solo single! This came out right in the middle of the 2014 deep-house trend and was a stand-alone single for quite a while, we were not to know the Jess domination that would follow! This feels fairly forgotten about in the public eye as Jess has followed this up with much bigger hit singles since, however I think this is a benefit to this song as overplay has not ruined its appeal. It’s a low key bop and I enjoy the trumpets with the deep house beat that make for quite a cool single. This is the highest song not to receive an 11 which is quite easy to see as it doesn’t stand out as a highlight but it is a very solid part of her discography.
Rumour Mill is SO good, so chill & melodic - great to see it Top 10
#7 - Jess Glynne 'Don't Be So Hard On Yourself' (Avg. 7.546)
High Scores: (11 - Bre, LL Jord 7, Riser 10 - George.keh, Josh!, Klaus, Dexton, Scene)
Low Scores: (-1 - Leww)
So this is how you do a self-empowerment anthem! This my personal favourite of Jess’ solo tracks, building on the success of Hold My Hand, this carried on the upbeat dance-pop backed by heavy piano chords and strings formula that worked so well before. The song talks about how we all struggle at times and how important it is to pick yourself up afterwards. This is also the highest song to receive a -1, why are you such a hater Leww?
I particularly enjoy this song as this was the theme to a CBBC series based around the goings on at an ice rink and told the stories of young athletes across a number of ice sports (get that mainstream exposure synchro!) I’m pretty sure I featured in the background at some point at one of the national championships (yas).
The 0 given to Rumour Mill because it hadn’t been listened to Glad to see it make top 10 though! I actually like all of 10-7
#6 - Route 94 feat. Jess Glynne 'My Love' (Avg. 7.578)
High Scores: (11 - Leww, Scene 10 - Tawdry Hepburn, George.keh, Davidson, Chapman, Dan-G, vibe)
Low Scores: (1 - JosephStyles)
Just missing out on the top 5 is Route 94’s one and only chart hit which I still can’t work out if Jess’ vocals have been pitched down a tad or not?? This was one of the songs at the fore-front of the deep-house trend and managed to make it all the way to #1. Making this Jess’ second #1 only 3 weeks after her first #1, Rather Be, had left the top spot. This is one of those songs that you either get or don’t get at all with very few middling scores received. It’s unusual in Jess’ discography as it mainly relies on the piano instrumental and brooding synths rather than her vocals which are more an accompaniment to the track rather than essential. It can be seen as quite sparse as there are not many lyrics and of those that are present, they are repeated multiple times throughout the song.
Just before we crack on with the top five, here's a reminder of the remaining songs!
Alarm
Ciao Adios
Rather Be (with Clean Bandit)
Real Love (with Clean Bandit)
Rockabye (with Clean Bandit & Sean Paul)
One of these songs will be crowned our winner! 3 remain for Anne-Marie whereas Jess only has 2 songs remaining.
I actually only discovered 'Rumour Mill' through this rate so I'm pleased I managed to get it top 10 at the last minute. One of AM's finer moments.
c'mon Clean Bandit!!
Could they get a CLEAN sweep of the top three?
rooting for Clean Bandit tbh
rather than Anne Marie or Jess Glynne
Not these results going severely downhill at the last moment xx Yay for 'Don't Be So Hard On Yourself' correctly being Jess' highest song as lead artist I guess but disappointing that it isn't even in the top 5 and has come behind 'Ciao Adios'.
Mildly amusing that in a rate of Anne-Marie and Jess Glynne, there are more Clean Bandit songs in the top 5 than Jess Glynne songs, and the same as the number of Anne-Marie songs. All Clean Bandit top 3 incoming?
Don't Be So Hard On Yourself deserved higher! Not a huge fan of 'My Love' but it's not bad.
Ciao Adios being top 5 is a disturbing development.
#5 - Anne-Marie 'Alarm' (Avg. 7.741)
High Scores: (11 - Dexton, Jack 10 - Cameron, UltraBeKind, Frenchie, George.keh, JosephStyles, Josh!)
Low Scores: (2 - smidsey101)
Time for Anne-Marie’s solo breakthrough, this was the song that brought her name into the public conscious and helped pave the way for her future hits. It managed to peak at #16 in the UK charts yet it stayed in the top 40 for 20 weeks which is almost unheard of these days thanks to ACR. I remember this coming out and thinking it sounded quite different to what the other female popstars were releasing at the time and this still has a fresh sound to it 4 years later.
This song is about the moment a relationship begins to be questioned and the alarm bells go off and being strong enough to cut yourself off from that toxic person. I think this is one of the strongest choruses of any of her songs, it’s catchy and tells a story at the same time and doesn’t rely on the drop to make it memorable. I actually saw Anne-Marie perform an acoustic version of this live at a festival in 2016 just as it was blowing up to less than 100 people and it really showed off the strength of the songwriting. Little did I know it had a team including Steve Mac and Ina Wroldsen behind it!
I find 'Take Me Home' quite unpleasant to listen to, it really sounds like she's straining hard to hit notes she can't quite reach. I never quite "got" 'Don't Be So Hard On Yourself' either.
'Right Here' I hold in higher regard now than I did then, but I just love Gorgon City's sound. Also 'My Love' is
Love 'Alarm'! . 'Real Love' is by far my least favourite here now so hoping for that to be out next...
I’ve never got into Alarm, it’s just very... there for me
Real Love shouldn’t be Top 5 either, I like it but I’ve gone of it a bit since its release. It’s quite basic when you think about it ‘real real real real love’
Anne-Marie having more songs in the top 5, talent wins
#4 - Clean Bandit & Jess Glynne 'Real Love' (Avg. 7.875)
High Scores: (11 - Electroboy, Josh! 10 - Cameron, Riser)
Low Scores: (2.5 - smidsey101)
Not quite the CLEAN sweep some were hoping for! This was a very comfortable 3rd place for so long before being pipped in the last couple days! This was the second time Clean Bandit and Jess had collaborated, hoping to recreate the success again after CB had a little wobble. There was lots of hype around this at the time and it did disappoint slightly upon release as comparisons were being drawn to Rather Be which many artists would kill to have a song become that successful. I think as time has passed this has shown to be a strong song in its own right and it’s another euphoric, care-free moment from Jess. I think the lyrics are a bit weak and the chorus is not particularly thought provoking but it’s been produced very well and Jess’ vocals suit the Clean Bandit production really well.
No way should 'Alarm' be lower than 'Ciao Adios'. Jeeeeez.
I feel like 'Hold My Hand' is genuinely a much better song than 'Real Love', but it's just all the overplay since then that's probably tainted it for most people.
But I appreciate 'Real Love' wasn't just a copy of 'Rather Be' like it easily could've been.
Love all these in the top 5. Alarm and Real Love were both brill at the time and still sound as fresh now
So Anne-Marie is the winner when it comes to solo songs.
'Ciao Adios' in the top 3
'Real Love' doesn't feel as memorable to me as most of Clean Bandit's other big hits (not to say it's worse than the others, it's miles better than 'Symphony' and 'Solo' and on basically the same level as 'Rockabye' for me, it just doesn't feel as distinct probably because they have another better song together).
#3 - Anne-Marie 'Ciao Adios' (Avg. 7.906)
High Scores: (11 - Cameron, JosephStyles 10 - UltraBeKind, Davidson, Josh!, Klaus, Calum, MrAndrewMan, Dexton, Scene)
Low Scores: (1 - Bre)
Ciao Adios Bre is DONE. The bop that solidified that Anne-Marie wasn’t playing any games here. This is a melodic song that brings slight Latin/Ace of Base vibes to a modern 2017 production. This does follow a very similar lyrical theme to Alarm about the break-up of a relationship thanks to the boyfriend being unfaithful and Anne-Marie deciding to not put up with their sh*t any longer. This was one of my favourite songs at the time and after her material thus far, she was looking to be one of the UK’s next big popstars, a star is born! I wouldn’t have predicted this top three to begin, however I can see this is a very Buzzjack friendly song and one of the few that I think we can admit is a certified bop regardless of our feelings towards the artist.
So Rather Be vs. Rockabye for the title! Who saw that coming?
Would me lowering my score to a 0 for 'Ciao Adios' have been enough to knock it down to #4? If so I retroactively lower my score to 0 because it only got a 1 from me because I didn't want to give an excessive number of 0s
I will give it to her that it's probably her catchiest song but catchiness isn't always a good thing.
'Rather Be' to win pls xo I do like both of the top 2 but 'Rockabye' has always been a little overrated.
'Ciao Adios' is jarring as hell.
I still hear "shower the horse I'm done". An equine hygiene anthem.
#2 - Clean Bandit feat. Anne-Marie & Sean Paul 'Rockabye' (Avg. 8.765)
High Scores: (11 - Frenchie, Klumzee 10 - divathinmuffin, Nina West, Davidson, JosephStyles, Jonjo, Bjork, Liam, Klaus, Dexton, Leww)
Low Scores: (1 - smidsey101)
So it’s come down to the Clean Bandit features! Just missing out in 2nd place, although they were never particularly close at any point in the rate, it’s Rockabye which also features Sean de Paul! My choice for the 11 points! This song is a little contentious as it was written by Ina Wroldsen about her love for her child and was blocked by Clean Bandit’s label from actually featuring, presumably due to not being a big enough name. Instead Anne-Marie was shipped in to sing guest vocals and as far as I’m aware she is childless so it could be seen as a little disingenuous. Instead Ina released ‘Favela’ which is more than similar in sound and lyrical theme yet didn’t have the same impact. This is full on Ace of Base and strays quite far from Clean Bandit’s usual wheelhouse with only some rudimentary strings thrown in at the beginning and end of this tropical-house/Latin-pop blend to remind us they actually took part on this track. This is one of the best pop songs written in recent times in my eyes, it’s got hooks galore, brilliant melody, fantastic ad-libs and guest verse from Sean Paul which do not sound ridiculous in context and actually has some deep lyrical content for a pop song. It’s summery, tropical sound perfectly juxtaposed it’s Winter release and stood out immensely on the radio. This also made became a Christmas #1 in the UK and was the first non X-Factor or charity related song to do this since Mad World back in 2003! 9 weeks atop the UK charts helped this to become one of the longest running #1 singles of the 2010’s.
which means our number #1 is...

#1 - Clean Bandit feat. Jess Glynne 'Rather Be' (Avg. 9.046)
High Scores: (11 - divathinmuffin, Nina West, T-Boy, Davidson, Jonjo, Liam, Dan-G, Klaus, vibe 10 - Frenchie, NickF1, George.keh, Klumzee, Chapman, LL Jord 7)
Low Scores: (2.5 - smidsey101)
And here we have it, Buzzjack’s #1 Jess Glynne or Anne-Marie song is ‘Rather Be’. Congratulations Jess! I can’t say this was a surprise or ever in doubt considering it racked up 9 11’s and only 5 posters ranked this below an 8. This sounded so unique when it came out and we’d never had a chart hit that combined classical and electro sounds into a pop song the way Clean Bandit were doing. Both artists were relatively unknown at the time of release but soon became household names thanks to their consistent hit rates. I think the song is excellently crafted with a big singalong chorus and can appeal to just about everybody without ever sounding like it was trying to, that’s the mark of a brilliant pop song. Did anyone else think Jess Glynne was the Asian girl who Clean Bandit were stalking in the video? This has been certified 4x platinum (sold over 2,400,000 units) and joins a very elite group of songs to achieve this record. It also landed in #2 of the 2014 UK charts behind Pharrell’s Happy and won a Grammy for ‘Best Dance Recording’ in 2015. I think overexposure has killed this song off slightly as it was everywhere for a good couple of years, I seem to remember it featuring in an M&S food advert for a while but this hasn’t damped Buzzjack and the world’s adoration for this song. Jess Glynne was an essential part of this song providing a memorable vocal and showing of her abilities to the world on the first time out and has achieved the well-deserved accolade of winning this rate!
I have not pre-prepared a full results table, but bare with as I write this up!
So glad Rather Be won, such a classic. Very well written and well produced and Jess’ vocals really got my attention. She might lack personality but she’s a talented girl.
A predictable winner, I don't really mind Rather Be but I prefer many Clean Bandit songs over it, including Rockabye. So pleased Ciao Adios made the top 3, I didn't see that coming!
Thanks for hosting this Klum, been brilliant to follow
the right winner won: Clean Bandit <3
I find it hard to enjoy 'Rockabye' these days, whereas 'Rather Be' hasn't ever really reached that point so I guess it's the more timeless track of the two!

Although no-one is truly a winner as we all listened to these songs voluntarily, I will have to give the victory to Jess as she had more posters on her team, she got the #1 song and had more songs top 10 than Anne-Marie.
This has been great fun to host and it's been great to fully see this through from an initial idea to a full blown rate and results! Thank you for participating everyone
Well I'm glad we all agree Clean Bandit shits over both of these two
Ciao Adios is awful tho, how is that top 3? I guess I should've voted. Hold My Hand is still very charming for me so that should've been top 10! (I guess I just avoid Jet2 adverts?).
These Days deserved so much better
Rather Be is a phenomenal song, predictable but certainty a deserved winner!
I never knew Ciao Adios had so many haters, it’s possibly a perfect pop song in my eyes! I thought Anne-Marie had a lot of potential after it but oops at that
Thanks for this Klum!
great to see Rather Be coming out on top! Rockabye is a welcome runner up too.
That top 3 is so good and the correct winner WHAT A SONG.

Patrick, this has been a LOT of fun! Thank you for taking the time to do this rate for us. I think this is genuinely my favourite thread to have followed in a long time! WHO KNEW A JESS GLYNNE VS ANNE-MARIE RATE WOULD DO THAT!!????
What next? Pixie Lott vs Jessie J??? (I'd lowkey be here for it. Jessie has some incredible stuff!)
Thank you for hosting and making this so enjoyable
Pixie Lott v Jessie
YES PLZ
Omg something where I’d actually root for Jessie J *.
'Rather Be' would've been my 11 so hooray 'Rumour Mill' in the top 10 is pleasing to see also.
What we really need is an Ed Sheeran vs. Sam Smith rate xo
Anne-Marie's summed up everyone's participation in this thread pretty well tbh
Thanks for fulfilling our demands for this rate! I enjoyed the predictable finish tbh and glad to see Rather Be take the win over Rockabye. Don't Be So Hard On Yourself is far too low but Real Love made up for it by finishing higher than I thought it would!
Jess officially the superior artist, it is official
Thanks for hosting this Klumzee! It's been great to follow and so successful considering the artists involved.
I'd definitely be here for a Jessie J vs other disliked female - although I can't think of another on the same level as her, Jess Glynne and Anne-Marie. Maybe it will have to be vs Ed or Sam then lol.
I'd also like to say thanks for hosting this, I found myself really enjoying it too!
Nearly a Clean Bandit sweep So glad "My Love" got #6 considering it can be quite polarising
Patrick this has been one of my favourite rates ever on Buzzjack - such a clever idea and so well-executed. Well done bab x
Interesting the top 2 was a battle between their UK #1 singles they got with Clean Bandit.
I’d say the better song of the two won in the end
Jess won in the end
