Another excruciatingly close round, this time we lose the album's 3rd single. A delicate song, mundane and peaceful throughout and a perfect reflection of the sound of the album. For that reason it is a perfect album opener, calmly introducing the themes of spiritualism and hopefulness. The video attracted some controversy as it shows Madonna fleeing from the paparazzi and has scary echoes to Princess Diana in the moments before her death - but whatever the overarching message, it's an eye-opening and powerful video in its simplicity. The song did decently in the charts, reaching the top 10 in some countries. Lyrically the song is so beautiful and personal.

I'm voting 'Sky Fits Heaven' now! As much as I adore it, I can't deny the power of the other three.
Sky Fits Heaven
Frozen
Sky Fits Heaven is good but the other 3 are my 3 favourite 90s Madonna tracks (by a long way actually)
INSANITY that Sky beat Drowned World. The latter is one of her most personal songs and the vocals and arrangement are perfect, but then the quiet storm of the middle 8 punctuates the entire affair with urgency and energy. Basically, it's perfect. Sky is a great album track, but is nowhere near as good.

Were you the one who called Frozen boring? Not hating on Drowned World but how can you find that boring and adore the simplicity of DW?
Simple =/= boring. Drowned World is more spoken than it is sung, so the sparse production works perfectly, coupled with the message the kind of dream like/other worldly sounds, whilst simple, conjure up a very strong visual. Frozen is obviously very good, but it doesn't work on as many levels.
Mer girl went first and that is personal and is amazing !!!
This round seems less close than the others lol but still some time to vote!
I'll give them all a re-listen but I think my vote goes to 'Sky Fits Heaven'.
Went for 'Sky Fits Heaven' this time, as I do really like song, but considering the other 3 that are left, it's about the right time for it to go and really glad that this did so well on here, considering it's the only non single left and if this did get released as a single at the time, then it would have definitely been another hit for her, but personally I think the 5 choices that were picked were pretty spot on and they all reached the top 10 in the UK, (which is something that never happens anymore), but 5 was more than enough, I think a 6th would be pushing it way too far.
'Drowned World/Substitute For Love' is a very decent and soothing song, which honestly I wasn't keen on back in the day, but has kind of grown on me through the years, okay it's not something I'd go back to when I'm listening to her music, but it's a very interesting addition to her back catalogue, and it was a great album opener and sets the tone as to what's to expect. Also coming from a time where Madonna was a true force to be reckoned with and with this era she totally transformed her sound and image and went for the more grown up earth mother approach, which really suited her during this phase in her career and stuck with that kinda sound and look for the next couple of years, until round about 2003 when she decided to go back to being controversial and would stay that way until pretty much throughout the rest of her career and it's such a shame that during these last couple of years she's decided to just jump trends and doing awful collaborations with Nicki Minjai (which honestly hasn't helped her flagging career at all).
But this will always be a reminder of the brilliance she was capable of and the fact that this song went top 10 here in the UK, was actually quite a surprise at the time, for me, as at the time this did kinda get glossed over as it came pretty soon after 'Ray Of Light' which was still getting tons of airplay and heavily hyped and the only attention this song received was for it's music video, other than that it kinda got forgotten and even despite it reaching top 10, it did drop pretty quick and not long after 'The Power Of Goodbye' started getting airplay and 'DW' was quickly forgotten by people other than Madonna fans. It didn't even get a release in her homeland USA, instead they opted for 'TPOG' as the 3rd single, which was a pretty smart move as I don't think this would have had quite the same impact over there as it did over here. So yes this was a time where Madonna well and truly turned things around and showed her true dominance in the music world. It's funny now if you think about that today if she released a song like this, then it definitely won't get anywhere near as high as this, because of several reasons, but it just wouldn't work now the same way it did back then.
After a re-listen, it's got to be 'Sky Fits Heaven' for me too. Definitely worthy of being top album track but that Top 3 is undeniable (they would all be my picks for the final 3).
