Our rate's wooden spoon really is in the deep end......

You'd expect more from a collaboration involving a BuzzJack fave.....

19. Boys Like You (with Who Is Fancy & Ariana Grande)
Average: 4.30

My heart beats like a drum: UltraReputation (10) Andrew. (8)
Need to cool down: sorryisslayed, Wall (0) George.keh (1)

Given this forum's shall we say complicated relationship with Meghan, who would've thought it was the collaboration with Buzzjack darling Ariana that was in last place! But last place it is. Who Is Fancy supported Ariana on her Honeymoon Tour which led to this (how Meghan got involved idk but I know Ari is a fan! we Stan queens supporting queens) which clearly paid off for him as it charted at #18 in the US...bubbling under chart :') Somehow it was a minor hit in New Zealand peaking at #26 but otherwise this didn't smash. I feel like I'll be saying this a lot this rate laugh.gif On a serious note though, Who Is Fancy is openly gay and while describing the lyrics on Genius he spoke about embracing his sexuality in pop music and we should commend him for that tbh as especially with male popstars that doesn't happen often. The song could've fit on Meghan's first album easily with the doo-wop sound and I think if it'd been pushed more or been HER single it would've probably been a hit tbh! Especially with Ariana involved.

I can kind of understand why the forum hasn't taken kindly to this but I can't help but stan it, it's feels like such a throwback to Meghan's first era :'( It's a cute bop! But clearly you guys didn't think the same. What are your opinions on 'Boys Like You'?

Meghan will be feeling blue after seeing this bomb out ohmy.gif

She'll certainly be crying way too much.......

18. I'm A Lady (From the motion picture: SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE)
Average: 4.41

I know I'm a gem: UltraReputation (9) Commander Cody (8.5)
I talk with my mouth full: SamJudd, Sorryisslayed (-1), George.keh (1)

Another non-album single here. 'I'm A Lady' was released as a single from the latest Smurfs film at the time, and given the masterpiece Ooh La La that erupted from the last one expectations were high. kink.gif (was that the last one? idek I've never seen any of them lol) Meghan revealed the song was written especially for the film which makes sense as even for Meghan it's a bit much laugh.gif Despite being released after the 'Thank You' era it's very Title Meghan in sound and styling which makes me wonder if the beat was a reject from that album. Still you can't deny she serves LOOKS in that video.

Personally I listened to this once when it was released in 2017 then literally didn't again until I hosted this rate Michelle.png Then I found it was actually decent! Yes it's funky Meghan by numbers but that pre-chorus and drop is so infectious. I wish the verses had a bit more to them otherwise it'd be higher. Honestly I'd never heard a few of the songs before the rate so it's actually given me some new Meghan gems! Still need to give Treat Myself that full 2nd listen tho x

Posted by: Riser 12th May 2020, 12:52 AM

So I've already mentioned this during the Ariana rate, but my aunt's cousin is a co-writer on Boys Like You but even that's not enough for me to like it laugh.gif Easily got my lowest score out of all of these oops kink.gif

Posted by: George.keh 12th May 2020, 12:56 AM

I remember Meghan posting that her brother had done the graphic design for the “I’m A Lady” single cover and it was absolutely horrendous- no other memories of that song for me

Honestly “I’m A Lady” grew on me after hearing it on DWTS

Posted by: DionTheSats123 12th May 2020, 09:52 AM

Honestly I love “Boys Like You”

Ariana is definitely the songs break out star but I never understand all the hate it gets.

Posted by: UltraReputation 12th May 2020, 10:07 AM

Both deserved better. sad.gif

Boys like you is fab and so underrated, I adore it. And I’m a lady is messy but a bop

Posted by: TomHo 12th May 2020, 04:32 PM

Nothing has surprised me so far, I'm A Lady is lame.

I thought Who Is Fancy would have been higher but it isn't one of my personal favourites so I'm not upset by its position.

Posted by: Andrew. 12th May 2020, 05:17 PM

Our first song to be rated above the 5 mark comes now...

I guess Buzzjack won't be getting it on with this song any time soon.......

17. Marvin Gaye (with Charlie Puth)
Average: 5.35

Lovin' in your eyes: Dexton, Commander Cody, Jordan Lee, Wall (10) UltraReputation, Cameron, Joseph Styles (9)
I'm in trouble: Jack, J00psyMethyd (-1), Tawdry Hepburn (0)

Ariana and then Charlie Puth, two Buzzjack favourites in the bottom three ohmy.gif kink.gif 'Marvin Gaye' was released in the UK in August 2015 as Charlie's debut single. Weirdly in the US it did well but wasn't HUGE, only reaching #21 and being outpeaked by every other US single on the album. The same thing happened in Canada. That wasn't the case over here fortunately (or unfortunately magic.gif) as the song became a massive #1, Meghan's last to date in the UK. The lyrics thankfully don't delve too deep into the 'get[ting] it on' drama.gif The video is classic Meghan though, if you like it you'll love her pretty much :')

I obviously knew this song when it came out but I can't say I've listened to it at all since or any Charlie actually, the tune is pretty catchy tbf so I hadn't forgotten it. The verses of the song I can leave, the chorus I can kind of take blush.gif I'm acc surprised this isn't last, it has a lot of haters but surprisingly a lot of lovers! Probably one of the most polarising songs in the rate.

Posted by: Wall 12th May 2020, 05:26 PM

Marvin Gaye is an absolute bop!

In fifteenth place..............

This isn't likely to drive the artists on this song loco, loco......

16. Hey DJ (with CNCO & Sean Paul)
Average: 6.04

La música que le gusta: Joseph Styles, Jonjo (10), UltraReputation (8.5)
I know it's wrong: sorryisslayed (0), SamJudd (2.5)

We go from a 4 to a 5 to a 6 as 'Hey DJ' also gets a big jump in average! Following on from their Little Mix collaboration CNCO teamed up with Meghan and SEAN DUTTY PAUL on this remix. Sadly it failed to chart in most territories although it did well in some parts of Europe and the original song sans-Meghan/Sean did well in South America. Meghan's very prominent on the song, which I believe is her first and only delve into reggaeton ohmy.gif It's a fun song and I wouldn't mind her playing with the style again, I wonder if she will?

I think this is a classic case of if it was a hit, it'd be right up in the top 10. It's way better than the only other CNCO song I've ever heard (Reggaeton Mehnto) and perfect catchy latin pop. Sean Paul's contribution doesn't hurt either but when did it ever xx

Three more results coming tonight! What are your thoughts so far cheeseblock.png

Posted by: JosephStyles 12th May 2020, 05:49 PM

That's not the version of Hey DJ I'd generally pick to listen to but it's a GREAT song in any form! Think it would've done better if it were more well known.

Posted by: Andrew. 12th May 2020, 11:12 PM

So this is the song actually in fifteenth place oops.......

The first song to receive an 11 ohmy.gif

15. All The Ways
Average: 6.24

The way you, you love me: dannjohn (11) Jonjo (8.5)
Your heart's blue: Wall (3) Cameron (3.5)

'All The Ways' was released as a single from Treat Myself, but eventually only ended up on a Target edition of the album oop. I was gonna put it in the 'others' category until I realised that. It also featured on her successful 2019 EP 'The Love Train' (which featured some of the songs on the original 2018 version of Treat Myself) as the lead single. Target liked the song so much it ended up on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1A7wHPrbX4 *____* The song didn't reach any international charts but managed to peak at #16 on the US Adult top 40.

For me, this is meh to good. I love the beat in the pre-chorus but the chorus itself just falls pretty flat and the song itself is a bit corny for me. I'm not surprised it's first single from an album to go out!

Posted by: Andrew. 12th May 2020, 11:28 PM

Another 11 drops out....

Y'all clearly don't think much of Meghan's dance skills (have you seen the NO video? sad.gif)....

14. Can't Dance
Average: 6.33

Cute as hell: Billy. (11) TomHo (10)
I'ma teach you a lesson: J00psyMethyd (2) George.keh (3)

'Can't Dance' was released as a single alongside 'Let You Be Right' (which is still to come ohmy.gif) on the 10th of May 2018, following on from 'No Excuses'. Like #15, it was meant to be on Treat Myself but ultimately got shunted off with the album delay. Unlike that though, it didn't even appear on the Love Train EP or any edition of Treat Myself. drama.gif This is actually the only song in the rate to NOT have a video so they clearly pushed LYBR more, I don't know if that was the intention from the off or a reaction to the more positive reception that got.

I gave this less than any other song oop. Boys Like You, I'm a Lady and Hey DJ robbed sad.gif Listening to it again I was a little harsh perhaps but it feels very meh-gan, like her usual style but quite formulaic and without any fun or charm. It doesn't sound bad today though :') It mostly got middle-of-the-road 6's and 7's, like ATW again.

Posted by: Andrew. 13th May 2020, 12:19 AM

Last one tonight, be sure to comment your thoughts on the results so far happy.gif

Another song in the 6's!

In thirteenth place......

13. Better
Average: 6.54

All My Friends: JulianNial (11) dannjohn (10)
Crash and burnt to pieces: TomHo (1) UltraReputation, sorryisslayed, Wall (4)

'Better' was the 3rd and final single from Thank You. It's performance may well be the reason why it was the final single laugh.gif Although the era wasn't doing too well in the UK with 'Me Too' having flopped and the album having spent just 9 weeks in the top 100 before dropping out compared with 53 weeks for Title, she was still in a relatively good place in the US, Me Too peaked at #12 and the album hadn't sold as amazingly as her debut but more than well enough for a 3rd single to succeed. Unfortunately 'Better' kind of killed the campaign D: I know it didn't get the biggest push but missing the Hot 100 after a series of smash hits must've been a huge disappointment and a definite sign that Meghan should perhaps ditch the more laid back, urban image she had in her second era and go back to the fun bops, not that Thank You wasn't a great era!

I remember being so disappointed this was the 3rd single when Champagne Problems, Kindly Calm Me Down (which would've smashed) and Woman Up were right there, but it did warm on me. The tropical sound is very 2016, but it really suits her voice actually. Yo Gotti is kinda pointless (which you could say about half the guests on that album lollll) but overall the song is decent, not one of her best but decent.

Posted by: Riser 13th May 2020, 01:45 AM

I love Can't Dance and Better, both deserved better (on this rate and as singles) </3

Posted by: Wall 13th May 2020, 02:30 AM

If Meghan releases kindly calm me down, her career would have performed much better following thank you

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 13th May 2020, 04:03 PM

'Marvin Gaye' is a true abomination.

'Better' is fairly good.

Posted by: Andrew. 13th May 2020, 08:03 PM

Going up to the top 8 tonight!

Given this didn't make any album, Meghan probably thinks it's right this didn't make the top 10 wink.gif

12. Let You Be Right
Average: 6.70

Kiss me at the next traffic light: SamJudd (11) Andrew., UltraReputation, JosephStyles (9)
Stupid and foolish: Dexton (-1) Tawdry Hepburn (2)

Continuing the slow-but-steady rise in averages is 'Let You Be Right'! *.* Released along with 'Can't Dance' after 'No Excuses' for the original version of her third album, it actually got a video. This sadly didn't pay off much as it became her first pre-album single to miss the US Hot 100, only charting in Belgium. It's a shame this song did so badly, No Excuses wasn't a hit but at least charted in most countries. It was snubbed by Radio 1 though (No Excuses was B-listed I THINK?) and like all her post 'NO' singles, received little in the way of support from Spotify. sad.gif

It would've been nice if this could at least have averaged 7/10, it's scores were in general a fair bit better then Better and Can't Dance (this got ten scores of 8+ while Can't Dance got 4 and Better 7) but the -1 dragged it down a fair bit, welp. This is an absolute beauty and would come 3rd on Treat Myself if it was on there sad.gif The funky electro pop is perfect for her and her voice is so delicate and beautiful on the verses <3

Posted by: Andrew. 13th May 2020, 08:08 PM

One more of these songs will miss the top 10. What's it gonna be ohmy.gif

NO
Me Too

No Excuses

OMG 'Hey DJ' is SO low! sad.gif Really should be top 10! What a banger!

This is going pretty much as I expected though, for the most part. I'm gonna guess 'Wave' and 'With You' will be the next ones to fall.

Posted by: Andrew. 13th May 2020, 11:51 PM

What will miss out on the top 10 ohmy.gif

Back to the collaborations after a five song gap......

11. With You (with Kaskade)
Average: 6.83

Let you into my head: JulianNial, dannjohn (9) Andrew., Commander Cody (8.5)
Wasting my time with you: George.keh (4.5) ...ready for it, Nick F1, SamJudd, sorryisslayed, TomHo (5)

The final song missing out on a top 10 spot is 'With You', a collaboration with DJ and producer Kaskade who had a #14 hit with 'I Remember' in 2008. Sadly I do not remember kink.gif Kaskade said it was an 'easy yes' when the opportunity of working with Meghan came about. This is Meghan's most recent non-album collab to date, fingers crossed for more dance songs from her in the future ohmy.gif

I'm pleased this beat the other relatively unknown songs from this rate. It is a BOP and a half, it sounds like it could've been a hit as well! Like the last few songs it got lots of 6's and 7's but less low scores which is what pushes it above them.

Top 10 time....

10. All About That Bass
Average: 7.20

Perfect from the bottom to the top: UltraReputation, JulianNial, J00psyMethyd, Commander Cody (10) Joseph Styles, WinterFreeze (9)
Go 'head and move along: George.keh (-1) Tawdry Hepburn (2)

Do I even need to tell you about this song? 'All About This Bass' was released as Meghan's first major label single on the 30th of June 2014. Since then it's become one of the biggest songs of all time, being certified DIAMOND in America, 9x platinum in Australia and 8x platinum in Canada. When will your fave? In the UK it was also a huge #1, comfortably exceeding a million copies (and not far off a million in pure sales either *.*). The song inevitably is polarising, but it deffo got people engaged with almost 2.4 million views on YouTube. It's not actually in her top five on Spotify anymore coming in at #9, so is it maybe not as fondly remembered as before? No matter what it's still an iconic song no matter what you think of it.

I know this divides opinion but I was shocked to see it come in below every other single from Title, and all but one single from Treat Myself ohmy.gif It didn't even receive LOADS of low scores (although if you exclude the -1 it's actually #8) but lots of 7/8s. For me, I can't lie and say I go back to this a lot but I can't deny it brings me joy (Amelia Lily spent her monthly earnings paying me to use that phrasing x) every time I hear it so it felt wrong to give it less than an 8. It reminds me of a happy, simple time in life when I was discovering pop culture. I think a lot of people secretly like this wrong as much as they'd say otherwise kink.gif

Posted by: J00psyMethyd 14th May 2020, 08:14 PM

Her only instantly recognisable song for me tbh

Expect to see Nice To Meet Ya out soon simply bc of the Nicki haters

Posted by: Cameron 14th May 2020, 08:16 PM

Tbh I think AATB has aged quite badly compared to the rest of Title.

Posted by: George.keh 14th May 2020, 08:21 PM

DREADFUL song

9. Like I'm Gonna Lose You (feat. John Legend)
Average: 7.39

I'll kiss you longer: Jonjo (11) JulianNial, WinterFreeze (10)
Every broken heart knows: TomHo (1) dannjohn (4)

'Like I'm Gonna Lose You' was released as the 4th and final single from 'Title'! It randomly hit #1 in Australia (we slay a 19-5-1 post-album single chart run cheeseblock.png) but in most places it did well, and I think it's the 2nd best selling single in America! It bizarrely flopped at the time in the UK only reaching #99, but it's still gone Gold here which shows it's remembered well enough despite the peak (a bit like Rih's 'Love on the Brain'). It's actually her most played song on Spotify at the moment, is it on loads of playlists or what? laugh.gif 'Me Too' is 2nd despite being royally snubbed by them at it's release *.* Clearly it's held up well in people's affections!

I've paid this ABSOLUTE DUST over the years but it's actually a really lovely song :') I don't know why at all, it's just nothing I've ever really gone back to! I kinda forgot the whole Title album after 2016, I do think Thank You is better but that's another subject kink.gif I'd put it a bit lower but it didn't have lots of mega high or low scores, it's pretty universally regarded as a decent song by most people.

Probably two more results coming tonight! Any guesses?

8. Dear Future Husband
Average: 7.39

Take me on a date: Billy., Andrew., UltraReputation, Cameron, Joseph Styles, Jordan Lee, Wall (10) JulianNial, WinterFreeze (9)
Why, why disagree?: TomHo (1) George.keh (2)

Three 'Title' singles in a row out! ohmy.gif 'Dear Future Husband' was the third single from the album. The song, which has been heavily compared to Olly's 'Dance With Me Tonight' (they even did a mashup of it on The Voice this year laugh.gif) was another decent hit for Meghan, peaking at #12 in the US and at #20 in the UK despite being snubbed from the Radio One playlist which I'm still not over. The song and (especially) the video received some criticism for upholding sexist stereotypes and I get it but disagree. I don't think it's a song that should be heavily read into. Just 0.19 averaging All About That Bass, Like I'm Gonna Lose You and this though, we love a consistent legend!

I love this wub.gif Yeah the Olly comparisons are real but I prefer this, it just has that carefree fun vibe that Meghan always encapsulates so well. It's kinda sad it didn't do better, I was expecting top 5! The taste isn't real.

Posted by: Jonjo 14th May 2020, 10:24 PM

THE TOP 10 IS A MESS WTF!?

'Wave' above DFH AND LIGLY? Nahhhhh.

I knew LIGLY wouldn't win, but I was hoping top 5 at least sad.gif One of my favourite pop ballads in recent (ish!) years! I'm really surprised 'Wave' is so high tearsmile.gif

Average: 7.83

I come from outer space: ...ready for it, Riser (11) UltraReputation, Commander Cody (10)
I know you lyin': TomHo (2) sorryisslayed (5.5)

Meghan's second single, 'Lips are Movin' was another smash for her. Not on the level of AATB but it went top 10 in almost every major territory, setting her up very well for Title! The song is less polarising than her debut single which we can see in it's score that only two people gave it less than a 6. It follows the same doo-wop style as AATB but is more conventionally pop if that makes sense, not that AATB is some observe masterpiece but still laugh.gif

I'm not sure what to say on this other than it's a fun bop which is deserving of a place in the top 10, like the other Title singles I haven't revisited it hugely until recently (need to give the whole thing a spin) but that doesn't make it any less enjoyable for me. It is kinda shocking that not ONE song from by far her most successful album has made the top 6! They do be falling like Dominos.

Posted by: Riser 15th May 2020, 02:16 AM

Okay that's just not fair. cry.gif

Posted by: Tombo 15th May 2020, 01:47 PM

The Title singles are some of her worst so I'm not sad to see them dropping like flies.

I'm also glad Better was so low as it is just awful.

Lips are Movin should have missed the top 10. It is awful!

6. Wave (with Mike Sabath)
Average: 7.85

This world was made for us: TomHo (11) Billy., UltraReputation, NickF1, dannjohn, J00psyMethyd (10)
This love's a sinking boat: sorryisslayed (5) Tawdry Hepburn, Dexton, Jordan Lee (6)

'Wave' was very much the re-launch of the Treat Myself era after it was delayed following all the singles flopping, being released over a year after 'All The Ways'. It gave us a new sound from Meghan in an alt-pop, synthy style. It wasn't a hit but did get a lot of praise and I think she surprised people with this *.* I was surprised this came so high but what helped it out was that unlike the other tracks in the top 10, it received literally NO low scores and at worse was considered a bit meh.

While I'm not sure I'd put it this high I am not complaining at 'Wave' getting some recognition on here, the production is so hooking and interesting and it's a fab sound for her wub.gif I'm interested in those that hadn't heard 'Wave' before the rate (I'm sure there must be some kink.gif), did you rate it high? Will it be part of your regular Meghan listening, if such a thing exists: ohmy.gif

Posted by: Andrew. 15th May 2020, 07:11 PM

So the top five is:
Just Got Paid
Me Too
Nice To Meet Ya
No
No Excuses

I wasn't expecting Me Too (I thought that had more haters than lovers ohmy.gif) or No Excuses to be there at all! Not bad for Nice To Meet Ya either clap.gif

Posted by: Andrew. 15th May 2020, 10:03 PM

Some more chat on the results would be appreciated happy.gif The turnout was decent so I was hoping for a few more comments ngl.

Did your mama raise you to put this in the top 5? Yes she did *.*

5. No Excuses
Average: 8.02

I don't disrespect you: UltraReputation, Cameron, TomHo, Riser (10) ...ready for it, George.keh, Jack, JulianNial, dannjohn, Wall (9)
What you sippin' on that got you talking crazy?: Tawdry Hepburn (5) Billy., J00psyMethyd, WinterFreeze, Jordan Lee (6)

'No Excuses' was released on the 1st of March 2018 as the lead single from 'Treat Myself'. I remember being SO excited for this lol, it was snowing that week as well cheeseblock.png The song is a fairly short-and-simple bop that is closer in sound and styling to the Title era than her sophomore. Despite a decent iTunes performance, especially in the US, the song just didn't register on Spotify (idk how it did on Apple though) and ended up peaking at #46 in America and #72 in the UK. F***ing Spotify frankie.png This was her final solo single to get Radio One support.

This is the most infectious song ever wub.gif The only reason it got an 8.5 from me and not a real high score is it's length (although quite a few songs are like that nowadays, not 2018 Meghan being a trendsetter *.*) and the fact the lyrics...don't change at all. I can't help but love it though and it really did deserve better. Wasn't expecting this to come top 5 at all!

Posted by: Andrew. 17th May 2020, 04:33 PM

If I was you, I'd wanna comment too x

I promise I didn't edit Meghan's score to make it look smaller (please tell me y'all get that reference)

4. Me Too
Average: 8.04

If I was you, I'd wanna be me too: sorryisslayed, Cameron, Wall (11) Jack, TomHo, Riser (10)
They can't do it like I do: SamJudd (3) Jordan Lee (4)

'Me Too' was the 2nd single from 'Thank You' and at the time was very polarising. Especially the video :') The promo for the song went all out with Meghan accidentally falling over on Jimmy Fallon (?) and a big controversy about her waist being edited in the video causing it to be taken down. Some thought it was an important statement to make, some thought it was a publicity stunt but either way the whole package of the song certainly got us talking! I remember the controversy making Gogglebox laugh.gif The song was a big iTunes hit in the US, at a time where pure sales had declined a lot already but big hits still sold well, so despite it's Spotify underperformance it still peaked at #13 there. Weirdly in Australia it acc outpeaked 'NO' getting to #4 and being certified 4x platinum *____* Over here the mediocre airplay and Spotify blacklisting could only take it so far sadly and it only peaked at #84, but it's gone silver so I'd say it's definitely more remembered than it's peak.

Another surprise for me! I thought this was such a divisive song, I read back the thread of it on here and I'd say the reaction was leaning more towards negative but I guess it helps that the biggest haters didn't vote in this :') Although thinking about the thread it's deffo grown on a few posters at least. I was absolutely a bit 'wtf' when I heard this (although 'Watch Me Do', an album track on Thank You was even more wtf in it's lyrics lol) but it's a catchy, life defining bop. Not a word shall be said against it x

I was ready to give MT my -1, before I rated... but I relistened and it's infectiously catchy.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 17th May 2020, 07:06 PM

I'm definitely a lot more fond of 'Me Too' since its release, it's a really well-known song for something that peaked at #84.

Posted by: Wall 17th May 2020, 07:11 PM

It deserved so much better but spotify ruined it

Not quite another #1 for Onika here........

But this deserved-better-bop still does pretty well xx

3. Nice To Meet Ya (feat. Nicki Minaj)
Average: 8.33

Blessed by the heavens: Billy., Andrew., Jack, JulianNial, JosephStyles, TomHo, Jonjo, Wall (10) George.keh (9.5)
Had to cut the grass, there was snakes in the camp: Jordan Lee (3) Dexton (4.5)

'Nice To Meet Ya' was dropped with the album on the 31st of January! The track came with a video the same day which is already iconic, although it has a criminally low 20m views sad.gif The song apparently was recorded a while ago but they were waiting for Nicki to come on board which can only have helped it. It wasn't a huge hit but it did peak at #88 in both the US and UK mainly down to YouTube, returning her the top 100 which is something I suppose.

This was an 11 contender for me! The video is BRILLIANT and probably her best ever, and the song is just so infectious. Nicki hasn't been at her best the last few years but she was in fine form on this song, probably one of her best features ever *.* God I love the video so much, it's been on repeat for weeks laugh.gif A really impressive showing I think given it wasn't huge and hasn't had the years to bed in like the other top tracks have (minus Wave lol). WD Meghan / Nicki / Buzzjack cheer.gif

So we have a top two, the sheer HYPE of it all *.* What will it be- Just Got Paid or NO? Find out later tonight x

Posted by: Jonjo 17th May 2020, 08:20 PM

I'm predicting a 'No' win, but here for 'Just Got Paid' too. I like both!

Winner getting posted at midnight! Any last minute predictions happy.gif

I'd expect Just Got Paid to take it!

Posted by: Andrew. 17th May 2020, 11:00 PM

What's has Buzzjack rated as Meghan's best song? ohmy.gif

In second place......

2. Just Got Paid (w/ Sigala, Ella Eyre & French Montana)
Average: 8.61

Gimme that, gimme that, gimme that: Jordan Lee (11) Billy., George.keh, Cameron, Wall (10)
Can't pay my rent this month: ...ready for it, SamJudd, dannjohn (7) Nick F1, sorryisslayed, Joseph Styles (7.5)

Buzzjack's second favourite Meghan song is 'Just Got Paid'! cheer.gif The dance pop bop was released on the 7th of September 2018 shortly before Sigala's album 'Brighter Days'. It's a feel good, fun anthem and I can see why people took to it on here and the charts. It almost but not quite returned Meghan to the top 10 in the UK after a three year absence, getting to #11. It was certified platinum here, making it her biggest hit in the UK since Marvin Gaye and her last solo hit to be bigger was Lips Are Movin' ohmy.gif It might've even outsold one or both of those although I doubt it.

Can't help but love this wub.gif It's just an all out bop that everyone goes crazy over at a party etc. The only thing is it feels a bit off coming 2nd in a Meghan rate because to me I don't really...care about her on the song? kink.gif I like the 'gimme that gimme that gimme that' bit in Meghan's verse but it's all about Ella on here for me. I never really think of it as a Meghan song, that's just me though so I might be on my own ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Doesn't make it any less great of a song, French's rap is one of the best parts of the song as well! No one at all gave this a bad score which shows how liked it is.

Which means...........

Your winner, the song that receives the accolade of being Meghan Trainor's best on Buzzjack is.........

clap.gif clap.gif clap.gif 1. NO clap.gif clap.gif clap.gif
Average: 9.20

So cute and so sweet: Andrew., UltraReputation, Nick F1, Jack, Joseph Styles, Commander Cody (11) ...ready for it, George.keh, Jonjo, Wall (10)
Thank you in advance, I don't wanna dance: Dexton (4) Sam Judd (6.5)

'NO' is Buzzjack's favourite Meghan song! A fabulous average of 9.20 shows y'all are here for it. 'NO' was the lead single from Thank You and despite lagging a bit on spotify it was a very positive start to the era, it was everywhere at the time! It peaked at #3 in America and apparently wasn't far off becoming her second #1 and went top 10 in many other countries. It was so close to a top 10 here but just missed out sad.gif The song is a change in style for Meghan, going from doo-wop to late 90's/early 00's pop and the raunchy video is also a change. It was divisive, but that's Meghan I guess!

I'm listening to this as I type this and I considered a few songs for my 11 when rating but honestly there's no more deserving winner. Just pure pop perfection. It showed in the results too, I mean obviously as it won the f***ing thing lmao, but with only two scores below an 8 (you can see who they were sleep.gif) it's clearly held with great affection, even by those who generally aren't Meghan fans I remember at the time they were saying it was good. Despite it missing the top 10 and underperforming a little here I'd say it's very well remembered, I remember it played in maths class or people just started singing it like a year ago and everyone knew it *____* The 'untouchable' bits and that second verse in particular are just omg. A classic pop song, thank you Meghan! (and I love the video.)

Thank you EVERYONE who's commented, rated or engaged in any way! It's been fun hosting this rate and hopefully it's reminded you just how strong her discography is. Full results coming up in a bit!

Nice top 2! Great winner.

Thank you for this Andrew. T'was fun discovering some bops like 'Hey DJ' *.*

I wish 'Like I'm Gonna Lose You' was higher sad.gif

Just Got Paid is good but I'm much more glad to see one of her own songs win! That's a great average for NO as well.

Thanks for hosting Andrew!

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 18th May 2020, 06:11 PM

An undeniably deserving winner.

Feels so weird that 'Just Got Paid' is 2nd, given that she's barely even on the song!

Posted by: Jack 18th May 2020, 06:38 PM

NO is such a moment for Meghan, I love the album it comes from too wub.gif She was in her element then.

Posted by: JosephStyles 18th May 2020, 06:41 PM

NO is the right winner for sure!! wub.gif wub.gif perfection!

Posted by: Commander Cody 18th May 2020, 06:58 PM

This rate has made me realize that I actually like Meghan’s songs a lot even though they’ve waned on me as her career went on tongue.gif Thanks for doing this Andrew!

I'm glad NO won.
