The names are here! Seems like a good list, I’ll be rooting for Yard Act or Wet Leg - the latter I reckon has a decent shot at the top spot. I know they usually have one bigger name in there, but Central Cee feels like he’s been a bit too prominent in the last year to be included here. But alas.

Baby Queen
Central Cee
ENNY
Lola Young
Mimi Webb
PinkPantheress
Priya Ragu
Tems
Wet Leg
Yard Act

I know they’re struggling to find newcomers these days but Pink, Mimi and Cench already broke through this year. seems little point in doing this now.

What's the point of doing this if they're going to use already big artists. Also without checking I swear baby queen was on sound of 2021!

I hope Mimi Webb fades into total obscurity and is never heard of again in 2022.

Wet Leg or Baby Queen!

Definitely feels like the most already well-known set of nominations for this to date - there are 3 artists on here who have pretty inarguably broken through in a big way already (I think it was only the 1 last year), then ENNY and Tems have had fairly solid success already as well. And Baby Queen feels like she has been around for ages as well (she probably could/should have been nominated last year!) so that leaves only 4 artists who really feel appropriate for this list.

Rooting for Yard Act, up with more weird spoken word post-punk bands. PinkPantheress is my fave on the list but she doesn't need it.

PinkPantheress was kinda already the sound of 2021 laugh.gif (by the same measure Central Cee/Mimi Webb are also rather redundant picks). These lists don't really hold much weight these days when the way of new artists breaking through has changed considerably from years past

Baby Queen and Wet Leg are good though ofc x

Mimi's technically was an EP but yes it's still a bit weird to include her.

I wish they'd include more acts like her though. Or that there more of them to include. Ones that do straight-forward pop songs. Having heard a little of all of the acts on the list, they're all a bit trying too hard to be edgy and forgot to just write a good tune. And most of them will fail as a result, as happens every year.

Best thing I've heard from any of them though are Lola Young's "Fake" and Brit winner Holly Humberstone's "The Walls Are Way Too Thin"

Did they not used to have some quite specific rules for who could qualify? E.g. "must not have had a top 20 single before 1st December of the year before"? (I'm making that up but I'm pretty sure there was something along those lines which clearly no longer applies given this year's nominees)
