This continues to be her dominating song in end of decade lists. As high as #7 in Billboard's '100 Best Songs of the 2010s' list ohmy.gif

QUOTE
When Grande split up with SNL’s Pete Davidson after a very public whirlwind romance, the obvious thing to do was drop a tabloid-ready celebrity breakup diss track. Instead, Grande released one of the most generous breakup songs of all time — an ode to lessons learned and self-love set to a fluttery track that suggests a mind at peace already moving on to new discovery. She cycles through a list of relationship revelations, sounding light-years from the man-needing bubblegum-soul diva of only a couple of years ago. “Even almost got married/And for Pete, I’m so thankful,” she sings. Grande began work on the song in the midst of her relationship with Davidson, and she wrote several versions of the song, including one where they get married: “Then we broke up again, so we ended up going with that verse.” —J.D.

I’m still stunned this didn’t get the Grammy nominations!

Was it because Ariana herself submitted 7 rings or did the GRAMMYs pick that over this?

I honestly felt this had the pop solo performance win in the bag!

Metro have named this as one of the best music videos of the decade!

QUOTE
Compared to the days of Michael Jackson’s Thriller which was a global event, the appreciation for music videos has waned dramatically. No longer are we gathering round the TV watching MTV waiting for the latest mesmerising visuals to replay – we only have to tap a few letters into YouTube to watch our favourite artists on demand. Simply, music videos aren’t as much of an event as they once were. But crikey, we’ve had some smashing music videos over the past decade so thankfully, there are some artists who do still care. From all the celebrity cameos in Ariana Grande’s Thank U, Next to the artistry of Beyonce’s Formation and the hidden messages in Childish Gambino’s This Is America, we’ve been well and truly spoiled with some iconic visuals.
QUOTE
Ariana Grande – Thank u, Next (2018)
Director: Hannah Lux Davis

After a rough couple of years, Thank U, Next was the emancipation Ariana needed and it became one of the biggest pop culture moments of the decade. Recreating Mean Girls? Brilliant. Having Kris Jenner play the ‘cool mum’? Genius.

Cameos: Kris Jenner, Elizabeth Gillies, Troye Sivan, Colleen Ballinger, Jonathan Bennett, Jennifer Coolidge, Matt Bennett

Hooray! Ariana was killing it with music videos last year.

Truly killing it! It's interesting to note that 'no tears left to cry' passed 800 million streams this week, while also having around 800 million views on YouTube, but the 'thank u next' video on YouTube has less than half of the plays that it has on Spotify, with '7 rings' having 'only' 670 million YouTube views compared to its 1 billion Spotify milestone too. She's done well on YouTube for years now (a few of her older videos have 1 billion+ views) but now she has Spotify in the palm of her hand, skyrocketing there.

2 years wow! Doesn’t at all feel like it.

I’ve never U turned on a single of hers as much as I have this. Initially I was so confused at how this stormed to #1 here, in the US and across the world when none of her sweetener singles managed it and on half a weeks sales too!

I still think all the sweetener singles are better than this but I do now appreciate this. Back when I actually had Facebook the music video of this was being shared by pretty much all my friends too it was a huge pop culture moment and a defining moment of Ariana being the biggest person in the world at that moment releasing what would be a huge viral moment.

Ariana's record now broken - nice to see a fan account on Twitter actually congratulating Olivia as it's usually so toxic on there laugh.gif well, the public definitely like a break up anthem if that top 2 is anything to go by!

Three years since everything changed ohmy.gif I was initially underwhelmed sonically but appreciated the maturity of the lyrics... but the whole package slowly clicked for me over time, especially after hearing it live at the end of the Sweetener World Tour heart.gif

Such an important moment in her career.

I remember the excitement on Twitter when it was released.
