I do think this won’t do anywhere near as well as Golden. There’s literally 0 new materiel on there now. There was originally meant to be 3/4 new songs but I have no idea what happened. It’s a bit disappointing really.

There was never the intention of 3/4 new songs

Definitely top 5 with 26k - 50k

I think she will struggle to go number 1 with this, especially if there's competition from a big act.

There's no comparison between this and the 2012 Best Of.

She's promoting it already, there's vinyl and cassettes for the fans (as a fan why not buy these they're ace) and a proper CD and download for the casuals not to mention specific streaming points.

It's the sort of CD people will buy on impulse even if they've generally stopped buying physicals. Greatest Hits are redundant for young artists but not Kylie who at least has stayed fairly relevant with her 2010 albums.

Fingers crossed for well over 25,000 opening week and decent sales through summer and into Q4.

How does streaming work for a Greatest Hits especially as this one has 4 x the number of songs on a standard release?

I believe streaming with greatest hits works the same way as studio albums:

QUOTE
OK, so how does it work for albums then?
It's slightly different for albums. Streaming has been included amongst physical and digital sales since February 2015. Firstly, each stream is 0.001 sales this time, meaning that 1 sale is equal to 1000 streams (not 100). This means that sales have even more precedence in the album chart.

The top 12 most streamed tracks are taken from the standard edition of an album. The top 2 songs will be downweighted, to the average of the other 10 songs. This is to combat an album being artificially boosted by one or two hit singles. The total of these songs is then added together and divided by 1000 to give a streaming total for the album.

There's also something about how the most physically bought greatest hits by an artist in a week gets the streams. If I've got this right, for Kylie's 1992 Greatest Hits, only streams of 'It's No Secret', 'Turn It Into Love', 'Word is Out', 'If You Were With Me Now', 'Finer Feelings' and 'Where in the World' would be accounted for because these are the songs that don't appear on 2019's Step Back In Time.

Thanks for that - confusing with how the streams are allocated but the fairest way to ensure the newest release benefits.

With a greatest hits release i was confused about how the streaming works too so it is good to have clarification.
The explanation also makes sense.

It's basically why Fleetwood Mac's 2002 Best Of completely disappeared from the chart when Don't Stop: 50 Years was released last year - all the streams were given to the latter compilation so the former would only be able to chart on physicals.

The competition so far for release week - appreciate there are some strong albums being released prior which will be challengers too.

The Alarm – Sigma (Last studio album in 2018 reached #72)
The Black Keys - Let’s Rock (Last studio album in 2014 reached #2)
Chase Atlantic - Phases (No previous charted albums)
Chris Staples - Holy Moly (No previous charted albums)
Heather Nova - Pearl (Last studio album charted at #55 in 1998)
ABBA - Voulez Vous (Re-issue)

Black Keys from those releases could be the only threat to Kylie.
That said, it could be an album from the previous week that could surprise and hold the Top Position.
I do think Kylie will take the pole position.

I think The Black Keys will be challengers but thankfully they don’t have a ton of bundles and formats (CD, Standard Vinyl, Pink Vinyl, T-Shirt & CD bundle, T-Shirt & Pink Vinyl bundle).

The various formats and bundles will boost kylie hugely in week 1 so fingers crossed it's enough for number 1.

Spice Girls are releasing new Greatest Hits no? and with their world tour could be streamed/sold to hell?

Maybe aonther headliner like Stormzy?

The only good thing is that Kylie will be streamed to hell to over that week with her Glasto performance.

Also i think BBC will do something with her like chatting about her Greatest Hits etc or something....

Still expect Golden Tour to be televised also. Its Golden but with Greatest Hits so is a good show case.......

or will Golden Tour come out later in the year on DVD with a special 'Glastonbury' outtakes included?

Lets see!

You have to remember a lot of Kylie fans/casual fans did not like Golden era so didnt buy into the country stuff. They could return for a Greatest Hits.

No, they are releasing a picture disc of their previous GH album which is limited to 2,500 copies and already sold out on pre-orders.

The Green Vinyl will sell loads on its own

Also it seems that the green vinyl is not that limited (which is not a bad thing) - guessing they have produced similar numbers as they did with the Golden clear vinyl that was sold by the indies and HMV. Independent stores have now started to add the green vinyl to pre-order along with Amazon.
